Experience Tumblr like never before
Not to get into community discourse, but I’d like to share a point.
Mind you, I have seen multiple sides to this “debate” as I like to have rounded knowledge before I say my piece, about ANYTHING political or discourse-y.
The statement I’ve seen again and again, in multiple places, is the sentiment that there aren’t bills directly targeting transmascs, or hatred directed specifically at transmascs, or anything else under that umbrella directed at transmascs.
Obviously there have been a lot of good counters to these statements, and I’m not going to repeat something that’s been said better or more eloquently by others.
However, I have yet to see anyone talking about something that, in my opinion, really should be referenced more.
The concept of “Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria” (ROGD).
ROGD as a concept was legitimately created to theorize why, all of a sudden, transmascs were coming out and attempting to transition.
Rather than acknowledging the blatant truth- tranness, to these people, was limited to AMABs, and even then, for the longest time “trans healthcare” for ANY trans person was just discouraging transition altogether- they decided to make up a narrative that suited their needs.
That their precious “daughters” were falling victim to a new disorder. Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria.
Rather than help their sons feel comfortable in their own bodies, masses of parents flocked to this idea. Politicians flocked to this idea, and used it as a BASIS for many anti-trans bills.
Need I cite the hopefully infamous book? “Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters”? The INFAMOUS book written elaborating this idea? The book used as evidence for countless transphobic bills?
That one concept (which, by the way, ROGD has been discredited by NUMEROUS health organizations worldwide, just in case I needed to clarify that) led to COUNTLESS transmascs facing abuses at home, in school, and elsewhere.
IDK, just food for thought. I think it’s odd that, in all my searching and read throughs of this discourse, NOBODY has mentioned this, even though it’s a pretty good example of transmasc specific oppression.
fellow trans moots just a warning to block the person in the pic who genuinely doesn’t believe that trans men or anyone masc aligning can experience misogyny and believe that we are somehow the oppressors 💀
reminder to people who need to be explained it: TRANS men are STILL minorities. just because we are men does not negate the fact that we are TRANS. its in the same way that white people can experience racism but NOT systemic racism. trans men CAN be oppressors but CANNOT be SYSTEMIC OPPRESSORS due to the fact that WE ARE TRANS.
not only that, ANYONE can be an oppressor LMAO. only some can be a SYSTEMIC OPPRESSOR aka, WEALTHY CISHET WHITE MEN!! not even wealthy, cishet white men in GENERAL benefit from systemic oppression. someone like ME, a BLACK TRANS MAN will NEVER benefit from it. even if i werent black and was instead white, i NEVER WOULD. because i am TRANS. the man part does not matter because all they will look at is the TRANS PART.
may i remind you that trans men are affected by the reproductive rights issues going on currently? if i werent living in my state and i had been in like fucking texas and was assaulted? guess what? i wouldnt be able to get an abortion. and before you say “why didnt you remove your eggs”. 1) why am i expected to? 2) that’s expensive? lmao? and 3) i shouldnt have to have to remove my eggs to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. yall are forgetting that the issue of FORCED PREGNANCY is happening RIGHT NOW. but you dont care because it doesnt affect you.
so in the same way that us as trans men will never experience the issues trans women face, neither will trans women.
i keep seeing other trans people say stuff like this, a lot from certain transfems and its so disheartening to see people from our own community treat us like shit. infighting doesnt fix shit. you are making things worse especially for YOURSELVES by putting other trans people down. if i were to speak about other black people as if they were villians then i cannot be surprised when i am soon also treated like a villian. something something stones at glass house something something leopard eating face party. the trans community can talk about ALL our issues without making one group seem like shitty people just for existing, without putting them down.
at the end of the day, we are still the minority because we are trans. at the end of the day when theyre trying to make us ILLEGAL, they will not care about how much hatred you’re putting out towards other trans people, like yes great! you helped them cause even more separating the trans community more! this is exactly what #they want so instead of helping each other, we are just pooling hatred so guess what! when they get rid of us, we wont be willing to help each other. youre acting just like an undercover fbi agent right now babes with this infighting talk.
for anyone who genuinely thinks this negatively about other fellow trans people, i beg of you to realize that this is exactly what they want. they want the infighting and hatred. and to play this game that became popular back in like 2015-2016
thank you lmao
anyone trying to argue w me will be blocked this is not a discussion. i will not argue with people who genuinely believe i am a shitty person JUST for wanting to be a man. this isnt LGBTQ+ positive yall this is T hatred.
these were posted by someone else but i wanted this on my blog too
the intersexism and transandrophobia combo continues !
fun fact: trans people cannot be oppressors because they have no structural power. that applies to trans women, trans men, and nonbinary people too. hope that helps.
And yes, this includes screenshots with the name cropped out!
I'm not trying to call anyone out here, or vague about fellow transmasc-friendly posters, but I really do think this is a huge problem in tumblr discourse in general.
I know, there are people being awful to trans men on tumblr, and transandrophobia is a huge fucking problem on this site. I can think of a handful of blogs who are the worst offenders- I'm sure anyone who's been on here longer than a week knows their names.
But they feed off of this attention! When you reblog their posts to argue with them, or screenshot their takes, you're just spreading their influence around. They're not going to change, they're not going to stop being cruel or transphobic, and arguing with them will only make you feel worse and give them more ammo to use against you.
Not to mention, if somebody has these blogs blocked, and you post untagged screenshots of their shit, you're making people see them whether they like it or not! Somebody who blocked a bigot so they didn't have to deal with their rancid-ass takes shouldn't have to see them screenshotted on 12 different trans-friendly blogs.
Focus more on uplifting the voices of trans men and transmascs than engaging with bullies!
I keep seeing people say shit like “I’m against transandrophobia because it’s just a way for trans men to excuse their transmisogyny!”
“Using transandrophobia just means you hate transfems!”
And I wish I could say to these people, as bluntly as possible
Trans men talking about their oppression doesn’t hurt you.
A transmasc person discussing their concerns about forced pregnancy and detransition doesn't mean they think trans women have it better.
A trans man saying “hey, I don’t pass easily, and I still experience misogyny!” doesn't mean he thinks transmisogyny is fake and you pass easily.
A trans man bringing up how invisibility means hate crimes against trans men often go unreported doesn't mean he thinks hypervisibility is any better.
A non-American trans man telling you that no, his life is not actually easier than yours, doesn't mean he thinks you are lying about your experiences.
People saying “Hey, I think trans men are oppressed!” does not mean they think trans women are NOT oppressed.
That's a whole new sentence.
Yes, there are going to be bad faith actors and bigots in every community. Transmisogyny is something we all have to watch out for, because it is so normalized in our society. No one identity is exempt from this.
No one identity is uniquely transmisogynistic, either.
You can’t insist every person who believes in transandrophobia hates transfems and is out to get you, specifically.
You want proof? Talk to the trans men and mascs who actually use the tag, listen to them for once. Hear their stories about the oppression they have experienced, and, crucially, don’t derail it and make it about you.
You don’t have to like the term. Hell, even if you’re a trans man or transmasc, you don’t have to use it! But don’t police the people who do.
Person thinks trans men can’t reclaim “tranny”?
Wow, that’s stupid. Block ‘em.
Some asshole believes that trans men are uniquely misogynistic or privileged or whatever fun discourse buzzword they’re using today?
Their prejudice is not your problem. Block ‘em.
Random blogger says trans men don’t experience (insert common form of transphobia here)?
Don’t try to prove them wrong by sharing details of your trauma. Just block ‘em.
The worst offenders aren’t going to change. They’re not going to listen to you, or engage in a good-faith debate. Speaking from experience, showing them any vulnerability will just result in it being used against you.
It’s sad, but these people are stuck in a discourse tar-pit that makes them see their trans siblings as enemies. They have to pull themselves out; they won’t hear a word you say, not when they’ve already made up their minds about you.
Don’t give them a platform. Don’t waste your time and energy on bad-faith arguments. Spend it with people who don’t make misunderstanding you their favorite hobby.
Make sure you've blocked fite-club/rittz. Like half of the inane discourse yapping goes away when you do, it's great.
you need to care about ALL trans men and transmascs
fat men and mascs gnc men and mascs butch men and mascs intersex men and mascs disabled men and mascs neurodivergent men and mascs men and mascs of color and especially black and indigenous trans men and mascs
