Mick O'Dea At Molesworth

Mick O'Dea at Molesworth

Last night, I attended the very popular opening of Mick O'Dea's exhibition 'What Is The Stars?' at the Molesworth Gallery, 16 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2. Mick's paintings were a nice size; not too large or small. There was a lovely sense of light and shadow in their compositions.

Each painting protrayed actors preparing to go on stage or undertaking dress rehearsals. The plays in question were Sean O'Casey's trilogy, 'The Plough and the Stars', The Shadow of a Gunman' and 'Juno and the Paycock' all performed at the Druid Theatre.

My favourite painting was called 'Direction' which featured a pub scene. It was full of life and drama that centered around a barman behind a counter. Mick's exhibition will run until 15th May 2024.

Liam Gillick at the Kerlin

Last Thursday night, I attended the opening of Liam Gillick’s exhibitionĀ ā€˜A Depicted Horse is not a Critique of a Horse’ at the Kerlin Gallery. I was most intrigued by the large drawings created in the style of wood cut prints. The wall mounted colourful sculptures provided a nice juxtaposition with the black and whiteness of the drawings. It appeared, to me,Ā that the sculptures built from girders painted in blocks of strong colours acted as a colour chart for the 2D work. I found Liam’s exhibition quite different in content and execution and enjoyed it.Ā  His exhibition will run until 19th January 2019 at the Kerlin Gallery, Anne’s Lane, South Annne’s St, Dub 2.

Classy.
