Last night, I attended the opening of Colin Davidson’s exhibition ‘Variations’ at the Oliver Sears Gallery. I was delighted to see all of his flower paintings. Although I loved Colin’s street scenes and portraits, I found his latest change in subject matter quite refreshing. I preferred his paintings painted in lighter colours especially ‘Dorabella’ with its yellow flowers on a sky blue background. The gallery was busy with a relaxed atmosphere. Colin’s exhibition will run until 24th Jan 2019 at the Oliver Sears Gallery, 29 Molesworth Street, Dub 2.
Classy.

I attended the opening of ‘Clayworks at the Printworks’ at Dublin Castle, Dame St, Dub 2 last Saturday 7th July 2018. The event, also the annual Ceramics Ireland Open Submission Members Exhibition, was well attended in a relaxed atmosphere. There was everything on view ranging from contemporary domestic ware through to decorate bowls to abstract installations. As a member of Ceramics Ireland, I had submitted a piece. Get a load of all these eyes.
I called my piece ‘All Eyes For You’.
‘Clayworks at the Printworks’ will run until 29th July 2018. Classy.
I attended the opening of the latest art exhibition at Hendrons, 40 Dominic St. Upr, Dub 7 last night. The work on show consisting mainly of photography was atmospheric and evocative. I liked each person’s work for different reasons. These was one animated video played in another room. However, I did not watch the whole video because it was a cold night and I needed to keep moving. The crowd I met at Hendrons were lovely: all warm and friendly. Sandra.
Last Wednesday, I popped into Ranelagh Arts Centre to see Anna Hryniewicz’s colourful paintings. I remember most Anna’s combination of bright yellow and a deep fluorescent pink in many of her paintings. Anna’s preoccupations with Astronomy and children’s daydreaming stayed with me. At least, that was how I interpreted the titles which she gave to her paintings. Going to her exhibition was worth the walk. Classy.
I attended the opening of 'Bourke/Kane' an exhibition of paintings by Brian Bourke and Michael Kane at the Taylor Galleries, 16 Kildare Street, Dublin 2. I thought that Brian's work was quite sombre to my eye at least. However there was quite interesting subject matter included in his paintings including decaying sunflowers, a winter landscape and Indonesian statues. Michael Cane's work was muted but had more colour. The opening was very well attended with a lively atmosphere. Brian and Michael's show will continue until the 13th of April 2024.

Yesterday, I visited the RHA, 15 Ely Place, Dublin 2 to see the 188th RHA Annual Exhibition on its last day. It was my second time attending this show and was worth the effort. I enjoyed viewing work by familiar artists such as Ken Drew, Richard Gorman, Eithne Jordan, Alice Maher, Mick O’Dea, John Shinners and Donald Teskey along with some new names. Classy.
I attended the packed opening of Kenny Mc Kendry' exhibition 'Rathlin, Portrait of an Island and Other Works' at the Gorry Gallery, 20 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2. Kenny's paintings had a lovely sense of light in them. Many if them seemed to glow especially the seascapes. His portraits had plenty of personality. The faces well observed. His exhibition will run until 11th Apr 2025.
