I’ve been re-reading the HP books and I got to Prisoner of Azkaban (be still my beating heart, it is still the best one) and, at Christmas there’s only 12 people around the dinner table. Trelawny comes along and Dumbledore stands up to draw her a chair.
She freaks out, I must not! When 13 people dine together, the first to rise is the first to die!!!!!
Except.
Ron had Scabbers in his pocket.
Which means that there wasn’t 12 people when Trelawny arrived. There was already 13.
And Dumbledore stood up.

Harry, wakes up with his arms wrapped around Draco: Why are we lying on the grass cuddled together?
Draco: You fainted while we were arguing and I didn’t want people to think I knocked you out so I thought it’d be safer if they thought we were a couple napping on the grass.
Harry: why would you think that was safer??
Draco: Potter I make very bad decisions when on the spot now stroke my hair.
Harry: *strokes hair*
Okay so you know that trope in fics where after Harry comes out, Ron asks him if he ever looked at him that way? Usually his response is relief but like, what if it wasn’t? What if it went like…
Ron: What do you mean you’ve never? Harry: Well, you’re like my brother. It would be too weird. Ron: Not even once? Harry: Nope. Ron: But you’ve thought about Malfoy? Harry: Um, recently, yeah. Ron: I’m gonna need a 20 inch essay on what Malfoy has that i don’t. Harry: It’s not like that! Hermione, help me out here. Ron: Is it the hair? Hermione: I doubt that’s it, he used to like Ginny. Maybe it’s more about posture. Harry: *hitting his head to the desk and groaning* Ron: I’m taller than he is Harry and he’s a bit skinny to be honest. I have more bulk, you know? Wait, where are you going? I’m a bloody catch, come back! Hermione, snickering: There there, Ronald. I know you are.

I feel like the problem ppl have when constructing redemption arcs is people make 'the character realizes what they've done is wrong' the end step instead of like...one of the earliest ones. a satisfying redemption arc doesn't resolve when the character first feels sorry, it resolves when a character has really journeyed towards atonement and made enough change in themselves to achieve some kind of symbolic victory over who they used to be
