لأن الحب هو أسمى المشاعر على الإطلاق، والخطابات التي نمررها بيننا باسمه، قادرة عن التعبير عما يجول في ذهننا و ما تعجز كلماتنا المنطوقة عن قوله، و لأن الأطفال هم الأمل، كتب غسان كنفاني هذه الرسالة الصغيرة لإبنة شقيقته لميس في عيد ميلادها الثامن:

عندما أعطيك أملي، عندما أجعله وقفا عليك، فمعنى ذلك أنني أعطيك حياتي نفسها، يا حياتي نفسها، و معنى” ذلك أنني أعطيك نفسي، يا نفسي، و لا أعتقد أن هنالك أغلى من نفس الانسان على نفسه، كي يقدمه إلى من يحب و يأمل

أيتها العزيزة

أنتِ تصعدين الآن، فيما نحن بدأنا نهبط، لقد أوشك دورنا أن يتمّ.. كان دور هذا الجيل أقصر دور أي جيل مرّ في التاريخ، إننا نعيش لحظات حاسمة في تاريخ البشر، و هنالك الناس ينقسمون إلى معتركٍ و مُتفرِّج…

أما المتفرج فلسوف يعيش جيله كله، و يمتصه حتى آخره، أما المعترِك، فسرعان ما سوف يسقط، فالمعركة قاسية، و قدرته الانسانية لن تحتمل كثيراً و لقد اخترتُ أنا، أيتها الصغيرة، ألا أكون متفرجا، و هذا يعني أنني اخترت أن أعيش اللحظات الحاسمة من تاريخنا مهما كانت قصيرة.. و في اللحظة التي سيتم فيها الاستقرار سوف لن نكون نحن ذوي نفع على الإطلاق، و لسوف يتولى القيادة جيل جديد، أما نحن، فلسوف نتنحى جانبا

هؤلاء “الآخرين” ، يا صغيرتي، هم أنتم… لسوف ندفع لكم من قلقنا ثمن اطمئنانكم، و لسوف تستقرون على “حساب ثورتنا… إن مشيئة التاريخ أن نكون نحن، و نحن فقط جيل الانقلاب

كنت جالس أنا ومحمد العارضة بأحد الأحراش رأيت شجر الصنوبر الذي زرعه الاحتلال مكان شجر الزيتون وكان بجانب إحدى شجرات الصنوبر فروع وعروق زيتون قد نبتت بجانبها، فقلت لمحمد:

"تفرج وشوف كيف زرعوا صنوبر محل الزيتون بس الأساس طالع من جذره، قطعوا الزيتون بس نسيوا أنه إله مد، هم بيقدروا يقطعوا الشجرة بس ما بيقدروا يقطعوا مد الزيتون"

Water standpipe in memory of my grandmother “Nabiha Al-hindi” who died lonely and thirsty after she had been expelled by the Zionists -before the creation of the State of Israel- on May 13th 1948 from her hometown “Lod”.

“Perhaps, the red in our carpets and our rugs mean more than just the attractive vibrant colour. Perhaps, the red signifies battle wounds, decades of struggle and  hardship, independence. Perhaps, it sets to remind us of where we came from, our roots.  All the patterns and shapes, each telling a different narrative. Perhaps it’s to show the hands of the tireless artist that weaved each section, for days, weeks. Perhaps, the red signifies love.  Burning passion. Fuel. Solidarity with our people. Perhaps, the red is just red. Like blue and green. Perhaps, it’s everything and nothing. Perhaps, the red is apart of a bigger artistic story, one that we cannot understand yet.”
