It has been over 200 days now since she was murdered at the hands of Louisville Police.

What’s happening to autistic people right now?

(Trigger warning for abuse, electroshock therapy, torture, and ableism.)

The US court has overturned the ban on shock devices being used against disabled students, predominantly autistic students in the US.

The shock device being legalized is called the graduated electronic decelerator (or GED). This is a torture device that is used to ‘correct’ autistic behaviors / symptoms. Autistic people are shocked for stimming, and for having meltdowns, ect. This device was made popular by a behavioral center (the Judge Rosenberg Center, specifically) that is infamous for its abuse and torture of autistic / disabled patients.

This is what the device looks like. It sends electric shocks into the victim’s skin; the victim often being restrained and held against their will. This is torture. GEDs have been reported to cause intense psychological trauma, PTSD, and physical injuries.

In March of 2020, the FDA ruled for GEDs to be banned. (Although, of course, they were still illegally used at a number of places.) This ruling has recently been appealed, and today, the US court of appeals has re-regulated the law to stop the use of GED. Sounds great, right? It would be!

... If not for a huge loophole in the wording, which basically allows this torture to continue. This device is going to have continued use on autistic students in order to “correct their behavior.”

Hello! My name is Rodya, I’m an 18 year old nonbinary trans girl (they/she) living in Moscow, Russia. Clearly, growing up in an oppressive violent state while also being marginalized, ostracized and struggling with discovering my gender identity without really having resources to explore it or a support system to help me throughout the way has been a challenge and has left me mentally scarred, fragile and without much energy to function. Adding on to the everyday discrimination and fear of hatecrime a trans femme person would get in an eastern european post-soviet country, there is a feeling of gut wrenching anxiety brought by new transphobic laws a senator called Elena Mizulina is trying to approve. The domestic violence I went through combined with severe levels of stress and also genetical predisposition to mental illness made me pretty much disabled. I suffer from a debilitating dissociative disorder called DPDR, as well as BPD, ADHD and Mixed Anxiety Depressive Disorder. So I’m asking for help as I’m unable to get the money elsewhere and these funds are crucial for my existence - gender dysphoria and living in a very transphobic environment are both things that can be fixed or alleviated and transitioning + immigrating would help me get on track start a normal, fulfilling life - what I’m going through now feels like mere survival. Anyway, on a more practical note, $2000 of the money I’m looking to raise would go to funding laser hair removal sessions, a medical commission that would give me permission to change my gender marker in my ID, booking an HRT (hormone replacement therapy) appointment with a trans friendly endocrinologist and buying the hormonal medication itself. The rest is more indefinite and I might raise the amount once I figure things out but basically, these funds would go towards me seeking political asylum in the USA, Canada or Europe and surviving there for the first few months while I wait for a work permit and look for a job. Meet Sarya: she was experiencing a mental health crisis. Police came and tackled her. She is 15.

Saraya Rees is a 15 year old biracial girl from Coos County, Oregon. After being abruptly instructed to stop taking her antidepressants by a local pediatrician, Saraya went into psychosis. In her manic state, Saraya poured a small amount of gasoline on the floor. Her parents called Coos Health & Wellness in hope that that would send mental health advisors, Coos Health & Wellness sent the police. While still in psychosis, the officers arrested her, questioned her without her family or lawyers present, charged with attempted murder and assault, and sent her to juvenile prison for 11 years.

This is not justice.

This is inhumane.

Pervis Payne, a Black man with an intellectual disability, has his execution scheduled on April 9th, 2021.

In 1987, Payne had called the police after discovering the aftermath of a bloody attack on his neighbors. 

Later, he was sentenced to execution. He has been for over 30 years. 

This case has never been properly DNA - tested, and the process of DNA testing only takes a few months at most. His district attorney actively opposes the decision to DNA test his case - even though the evidence from the case is still here. This attorney has refused DNA testing in MANY cases that could have proven innocence. 

In the trial, his past was fabricated - of doing drugs (he didn’t/only barely did, and obviously that doesn’t justify the death sentence regardless of amount), being sexually perverted (he isn’t) and being aggressive, which he wasn’t. He had an intellectual disability that was tested later.

Multiple other suspects exist.

We cannot let another innocent be executed on death row. Pervis Payne suffered 30 years because of the racist “justice” system - he cannot die at the hands of it too.

We cannot let death row be a substitute for justice any longer.
