To the man I knew as “Flowerman” until I learned your name was Bennie.

Your name was Bennie Edwards. I bought flowers from you when I worked near your favorite corners. You always had a smile on your face. I gave you extra money during cold months and asked where you were staying. “Don’t you worry, sweet girl I will be just fine!”

Bennie Edwards was a lovely man who struggled with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Yesterday he was agitated and in distress OUTSIDE a business and the business owner called the police. Five cops showed up and circled Bennie. Bennie yelled for them to leave him alone. He had a small pocket knife. He gestured at the cops with it and they tazed him and used pepper spray. This agitated Bennie further and he began to run. He was shot. So this sixty year old man turned and ran from the police and he was shot four more times in the back. IN THE BACK. They did not move to help him as he lay on the pavement. All of this was captured on cellphone footage and confirmed by witnesses. The cops are saying he ran at them with a weapon. They handcuffed Bennie’s dead body and yelled at him to get up.

Mental health professionals and care workers have to subdue agitated sometimes ARMED and VIOLENT patients EVERY DAY. FUCK the cops for their continued display of cowardice and cult like gang protection of each other and their power. They are not interested in protecting and serving the most vulnerable people in this world. The community gathered to demand answered and mourn Bennie and got PEPPER SPRAYED.

Black Lives Matter. ACAB. If those two expressions bother you don’t fucking follow me. I’m sorry, Bennie.

i feel like tumblr would really benefit using tone indicators. a lot of people may use them, but i havent seen a lot of it! as a neurodivergent, it helps us understand the tone of what you're saying. sometimes it's hard to tell whether you're actually mad, or it's just lighthearted, or if you're being sarcastic!

Pervis Payne, a Black man with an intellectual disability, has his execution scheduled on April 9th, 2021.

In 1987, Payne had called the police after discovering the aftermath of a bloody attack on his neighbors. 

Later, he was sentenced to execution. He has been for over 30 years. 

This case has never been properly DNA - tested, and the process of DNA testing only takes a few months at most. His district attorney actively opposes the decision to DNA test his case - even though the evidence from the case is still here. This attorney has refused DNA testing in MANY cases that could have proven innocence. 

In the trial, his past was fabricated - of doing drugs (he didn’t/only barely did, and obviously that doesn’t justify the death sentence regardless of amount), being sexually perverted (he isn’t) and being aggressive, which he wasn’t. He had an intellectual disability that was tested later.

Multiple other suspects exist.

We cannot let another innocent be executed on death row. Pervis Payne suffered 30 years because of the racist “justice” system - he cannot die at the hands of it too.

We cannot let death row be a substitute for justice any longer.

Racial terrorists known as “Proud Boys” steal BLM banners from D.C churches and burn the banners. Police presence amounted to protecting the terrorists, facing counter-protestors instead. Police allegedly blamed BLM for the domestic terror and assaults carried out by Trump’s base.

Michigan’s legislature’s office buildings will be closed on Monday because of “credible threats of violence” but details of the threats were not released. Michigan’s capital was stormed earlier this year by armed white nationalists, who also threatened to kidnap the state’s governor.

What’s happening to autistic people right now?

(Trigger warning for abuse, electroshock therapy, torture, and ableism.)

The US court has overturned the ban on shock devices being used against disabled students, predominantly autistic students in the US.

The shock device being legalized is called the graduated electronic decelerator (or GED). This is a torture device that is used to ‘correct’ autistic behaviors / symptoms. Autistic people are shocked for stimming, and for having meltdowns, ect. This device was made popular by a behavioral center (the Judge Rosenberg Center, specifically) that is infamous for its abuse and torture of autistic / disabled patients.

This is what the device looks like. It sends electric shocks into the victim’s skin; the victim often being restrained and held against their will. This is torture. GEDs have been reported to cause intense psychological trauma, PTSD, and physical injuries.

In March of 2020, the FDA ruled for GEDs to be banned. (Although, of course, they were still illegally used at a number of places.) This ruling has recently been appealed, and today, the US court of appeals has re-regulated the law to stop the use of GED. Sounds great, right? It would be!

... If not for a huge loophole in the wording, which basically allows this torture to continue. This device is going to have continued use on autistic students in order to “correct their behavior.”
