Hello! My name is Rodya, I’m an 18 year old nonbinary trans girl (they/she) living in Moscow, Russia. Clearly, growing up in an oppressive violent state while also being marginalized, ostracized and struggling with discovering my gender identity without really having resources to explore it or a support system to help me throughout the way has been a challenge and has left me mentally scarred, fragile and without much energy to function. Adding on to the everyday discrimination and fear of hatecrime a trans femme person would get in an eastern european post-soviet country, there is a feeling of gut wrenching anxiety brought by new transphobic laws a senator called Elena Mizulina is trying to approve. The domestic violence I went through combined with severe levels of stress and also genetical predisposition to mental illness made me pretty much disabled. I suffer from a debilitating dissociative disorder called DPDR, as well as BPD, ADHD and Mixed Anxiety Depressive Disorder. So I’m asking for help as I’m unable to get the money elsewhere and these funds are crucial for my existence - gender dysphoria and living in a very transphobic environment are both things that can be fixed or alleviated and transitioning + immigrating would help me get on track start a normal, fulfilling life - what I’m going through now feels like mere survival. Anyway, on a more practical note, $2000 of the money I’m looking to raise would go to funding laser hair removal sessions, a medical commission that would give me permission to change my gender marker in my ID, booking an HRT (hormone replacement therapy) appointment with a trans friendly endocrinologist and buying the hormonal medication itself. The rest is more indefinite and I might raise the amount once I figure things out but basically, these funds would go towards me seeking political asylum in the USA, Canada or Europe and surviving there for the first few months while I wait for a work permit and look for a job. To the man I knew as “Flowerman” until I learned your name was Bennie.

Your name was Bennie Edwards. I bought flowers from you when I worked near your favorite corners. You always had a smile on your face. I gave you extra money during cold months and asked where you were staying. “Don’t you worry, sweet girl I will be just fine!”

Bennie Edwards was a lovely man who struggled with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Yesterday he was agitated and in distress OUTSIDE a business and the business owner called the police. Five cops showed up and circled Bennie. Bennie yelled for them to leave him alone. He had a small pocket knife. He gestured at the cops with it and they tazed him and used pepper spray. This agitated Bennie further and he began to run. He was shot. So this sixty year old man turned and ran from the police and he was shot four more times in the back. IN THE BACK. They did not move to help him as he lay on the pavement. All of this was captured on cellphone footage and confirmed by witnesses. The cops are saying he ran at them with a weapon. They handcuffed Bennie’s dead body and yelled at him to get up.

Mental health professionals and care workers have to subdue agitated sometimes ARMED and VIOLENT patients EVERY DAY. FUCK the cops for their continued display of cowardice and cult like gang protection of each other and their power. They are not interested in protecting and serving the most vulnerable people in this world. The community gathered to demand answered and mourn Bennie and got PEPPER SPRAYED.

Black Lives Matter. ACAB. If those two expressions bother you don’t fucking follow me. I’m sorry, Bennie.

Update 16/10/20

Pervis Payne, a Black man with an intellectual disability, has his execution scheduled on April 9th, 2021.

In 1987, Payne had called the police after discovering the aftermath of a bloody attack on his neighbors. 

Later, he was sentenced to execution. He has been for over 30 years. 

This case has never been properly DNA - tested, and the process of DNA testing only takes a few months at most. His district attorney actively opposes the decision to DNA test his case - even though the evidence from the case is still here. This attorney has refused DNA testing in MANY cases that could have proven innocence. 

In the trial, his past was fabricated - of doing drugs (he didn’t/only barely did, and obviously that doesn’t justify the death sentence regardless of amount), being sexually perverted (he isn’t) and being aggressive, which he wasn’t. He had an intellectual disability that was tested later.

Multiple other suspects exist.

We cannot let another innocent be executed on death row. Pervis Payne suffered 30 years because of the racist “justice” system - he cannot die at the hands of it too.

We cannot let death row be a substitute for justice any longer.

Meet Sarya: she was experiencing a mental health crisis. Police came and tackled her. She is 15.

Saraya Rees is a 15 year old biracial girl from Coos County, Oregon. After being abruptly instructed to stop taking her antidepressants by a local pediatrician, Saraya went into psychosis. In her manic state, Saraya poured a small amount of gasoline on the floor. Her parents called Coos Health & Wellness in hope that that would send mental health advisors, Coos Health & Wellness sent the police. While still in psychosis, the officers arrested her, questioned her without her family or lawyers present, charged with attempted murder and assault, and sent her to juvenile prison for 11 years.

This is not justice.

This is inhumane.
