Everyone please read Gilded by Marissa Meyer immediately
I want to have a discussion with someone
idk if this is controversial or not, but I really like when non-professional writing like fic has hints of author bleedthrough when it comes to like, what different people assume is common knowledge. Like sometimes I’ll be reading a fic and it’ll just be obvious that the person writing it is either obsessed with medicine or has been to medical school, because they’ll use terms that are just a shade too technical without explaining them. It’s never the super specific stuff that they’d know other people are unaware of, it’s always the things that once you’ve known it for a while you forget it’s niche knowledge. It’s fun because as a fanfic reader it reminds me of how this is a fun hobby community, where everyone has their own thing going on outside of fandom. Everyone’s got their own specialties and they can’t help but write that into their work sometimes
getting up at 6:00 am made me realize that 6:00 am isnt a place it is an emotion
i love it when you read multiple works from a writer and you start being able to pick out the things that stick with them. like the themes they keep thinking about, that can’t be satisfied with just one poem or novel or story. or the motifs they like to reuse and recycle throughout their works like an extradiagetic thread. it’s like drawing a map through a writer’s collection of all the things that keep them up at night
played sims 4 for the first time and one of the married cis men had a desire to try for baby with his cis husband. i accidentally pinned it and could not unpin it. trying for baby is physically impossible. I tried to use cheats to give him a viable womb in create a sim but it wouldn’t let me do so retroactively. so I thought, maybe if they adopt the want for pregnancy will go away, and had them adopt a toddler daughter. but then the try for baby desire did not go away. since they now had an unwanted adopted child I tried to remove the toddler from the household, thinking this would send her back into the ether. it did not. instead she wanders the neighborhood like a feral cat. i thought the social worker would come and take her back so someone else could adopt her, but I guess there is no social worker in sims 4. so now the neighborhood is haunted by a smelly miserable baby that has no home but cannot die and everyone who sees her is uncomfortable. fucking omelas scenario.
I love making vaguely threatening eye contact with the lady with the screaming child and absolutely nothing happening
"they should make that a little more clear" says the lady who looked at the CLEARLY LABELED buttons and pressed the one that says staff only but didn't end up at the lobby
Of course you think I'm cool, this personality was tailored with you specifically in mind...
I'm going home to see my family that I haven't seen in months and instead of spending time with me, they want to go do a religious service that I'm not a part of. Maybe I'm just being a bitch but they could literally go do this any other time! Why is it the one weekend that I'm there that they have to go??
Not to mention they're saddling me with my 13 nieces and nephew. No, no, don't ask if I'm fine with it (despite my numerous and very vocal statements how I don't like children). Clearly it'll be fine... after all, this was the entire purpose and how I was raised, to be a mother and caregiver.
I was talking to my friend, having a conversation about god, and I mentioned how I'm not sure I believe in God because how would he let the things that happen happen. Then my friend said "so if there's a god, he would be an unfair god"
I... I had never thought of that before
it had never occurred to me, who was raised mormon, that a God could be anything less than perfect in every way
...anyway, gonna go re-think my entire perspective on life
