Just had someone tell me that Marinette telling Chloe and Audrey that they should bond over being toxic and entitled was okay because she was being sarcastic, and I just gotta say..... no? that doesn't make it better??
Thankfully this person was pretty civil, and open to having an actual conversation about that scene, and by the end of it we came to agree on some things.
But I still wanna blog about it, because I have a lot of feelings.
Even if Marinette was saying it to be ironic, which still isn't an interpretation that I'm fully on board with, but for the sake of argument, even if she was, that's still a horrible thing to say given the circumstances!
Marinette doesn't have to like Chloe, but if her first reaction to seeing a girl her age on the verge of tears while she asks her mother "Why don't you love me?" is to have a laugh and say "Well, you both suck, so you should be glad to be stuck together!" then that is terrible, and petty, and vicious!
If for some reason you wanna have Marinette banter with Chloe about it, at least wait until she isn't in the most vulnerable position possible, baring her deepest trauma while confronting her abuser.
Either way you slice it, Marinette had no right to say what she did! She was either giving harmful advice that she wasn't qualified to give, or she was being downright cruel.
World is mine!
Or what happen when I start listening vocaloid again

i get that a lot of people dont like chloe redemptions bc they want her to be the bad bitch she deserves to be but what ur forgetting is that u can be a kind bad bitch. u can be a caring bad bitch. lila and gabriel fulfill the roles of irredeemable villains for the show (one for ladynoir, one for adrienette), why do we need another one. chloes meanness stems from severe childhood trauma and neglect . tahts not a villain. thats a victim. the difference is that when chloe is shown genuine affection and caring she falters. for a split second shes not so evil. gabe and lila literally never do that. the closest they got to that was when gabe made the wish but lila is shown ENDLESS love and compassion and never once does she think hey, maybe i can be good with these people. i think chloe deserved redemption bc she WANTED it. anyway i love chloe. LET HER LIVE!! IN PEACE!!!!
Chloe and Zoe from season 6 in my vision.
thomas recently made some interesting comments about chloe on twitter (which you can read in this post). i’ve been thinking about chloé’s potential redemption arc for a while now, so i wanted to respond to those comments that seem to shut down the possibility of redemption
i have to start by saying that by no means am i a chloé stan, and i am the furthest things from a marinette salter lol (just clarifying because thomas’s points call out those two groups in particular, which are usually the same group). i am also generally supportive of thomas/the writing team and like the direction the show is going. but this is one case where i am hoping it will turn out differently than he’s implying.

fun cool animal fact: pigs have poor eyesight
even more fun, cooler animal fact: overzealous, (hopefully) unintentionally insensitive ducks will make fun of begrudging bespectacled pigs for their poor eyesight
even MORE fun, coolerer animal fact: ducks have very GOOD eyesight, so the fact that this seemingly does not apply to said overzealous, unintentionally insensitive duck means that he has extremely meager room to talk
and also Porky is colorblind. poor guy can’t catch a break
