This Has Been A Major Frustration Of Mine Since I Noticed It A Few Months Back. I'm So Glad OSP Red @comicaurora

Posted by @comicaurora: "people who haven't been taught things keep getting treated like a mine-able resource for infinite dunks instead of an opportunity to share something fascinating and compelling that they've never been exposed to and it is doing nobody any good"

This has been a major frustration of mine since I noticed it a few months back. I'm so glad OSP Red @comicaurora found such a clear and concise way to express it.

Every time I watch a Miniminuteman video, the comments are full of people just dunking on some random conspiracy theorist or fringe believer, just to make themselves feel better. I don't even think most of them are genuinely concerned, they just want to feel superior.

And I'm also noticing, more and more, that people who clearly consider themselves progressive seem to have forgotten that calling something "stupid" or "crazy," or calling the person saying it those things, doesn't refute or disprove it. All too often I see someone set out to "debunk" something, and wind up descending into a rant about how foolish or demented they think it is, or how mentally ill they think the person saying it is.

Not a good look if you're trying to be an advocate of science, logic, and tolerance.

Red's way is far better. Just focus on the truth, detail it out, and don't even bring up the post-consensus hypotheses, or the conspiracy theories which people build around them.

I know I'm not the first to Uno-Reverse the whole humans-summoning-demons thing, but what kind of mundane tasks might an otherworldly being need a summoned human to do? What kind of "powers" might a demon gain from a pact with a human? And what might the human demand in return?

Is spitting on one's hand, then shaking hands, the "humonic binding ritual"?

What happens when a demon calls down that which they cannot send back up?

Whatever else you want to say about Jill Bearup, she called Kylo Ren a "murderous pouty-faced space numpty," so she can't be all bad.

When Kyana was sitting up on that spire, and Davian flew by in his Hummingbird, and they had a little conversation, I really enjoyed the moment the two characters had. It was one of the most interesting and satisfying one-on-ones in the first campaign.

I like to think that at some point after the Beastlands, Davian visited the Grand Arena, and ended up facing Kyana. Kyana didn't quite roflstomp him -- Davian drew a little blood, from the one hit he got in, and Kyana had it treated nonmagically, so she could bear the scar as a memento.

Smugfolk: (getting off the ferry) "How are you, this morning?"

Ferry terminal agent: "Cold. Wet."

Smugfolk: (who has already stopped listening) "What?"

It's a talking coin.

Sounds interesting, right?

Well, it's a tiny, tiny copper piece, much smaller than a modern penny, and it only says one thing, over and over.

"I am groat."

Being German-American, I don't much like the stereotype of Germans as excessively regimented and organized. So I prefer to believe that Liesl's extensive lists and spreadsheets are actually a carefully-crafted manipulation technique, designed to leverage that stereotype into a way to demoralize any opposition to her plans. It's her version of "I can do this all day."

Liesl isn't, actually, an organization freak. If you pay close attention, she turns out to be an adept at retaining facts and knowledge, extrapolating from observational data, and determining optimal solutions. She's a theorycrafter and a logician.

Except for her own personal goal, of course. She's not entirely sane about that, but understandably so.

I have thousands of shitposts, rants, and essays sitting in notebooks, left over from decades of not using social media or having many friends. Hold on tight.
