“Well Malleus just can’t marry off anybody, ghosts included.” Once the words leave Lilia’s mouth you’re left stunned. Of course it should be a relief now there’s no chance that Eliza would be marrying your boyfriend, but now that you think about it, would there even be any future with your boyfriend?

Cue the worst train of thoughts you’ve had in your life. Anxiety bubbles in your stomach every time you even look towards Malleus, your brain hurts just even thinking about the consequences. Maybe Lilia was just talking out of his side to protect Malleus, yes that must be it!

Of course that dark pit never refuses to leave you and the worries build up and up until they finally explode one night. It’s late and you unfortunately can’t take it anymore, there’s no concrete proof that Malleus will refuse to be with you simply because of your status as a citizen. Plenty of royals from where you’re from have gotten married to plain old commoners. However can the same be said for Twisted Wonderland?

With that last sentence echoing in your mind you set off on a mission. Malleus already gives you little tiblets on what Fae culture is like as well as some history on Briar Valley however it’s not enough, not enough to satisfy the ever consuming hunger that’s now ripping apart your body.

Days and days on end are spent held up in the school library researching all you can trying to get a glimpse if Lilia’s words hold any weight. Nothing provides a concrete answer.

Your friends; namely Ace, Deuce and Grim start noticing that you’ve been spending less and less time with them and especially with Malleus. Despite how much those three do not take notice of anything at all they’re starting to see the signs of your restlessness.

You wave them off with a hand, studying for upcoming exams, a lot of work to do considering the circumstances in which you stumbled upon twisted wonderland. Thankfully they seem to buy it, others however not so much.

Unfortunately for you Lilia is far too wise for his seemingly young age to not notice your deterring state, he pauses on the thought for a while unsure on whether to pull you about it.

It isn’t until Malleus begins to express his worries over you and when he then finds you hunched over what looks to be about five books on the culture of Briar Valley.

Okay he’s definitely let this go on far too long.

Immediately rushes to Malleus and tells him about the scene he’s just saw, urges Malleus to go and try to talk about what is going on. Of course Malleus then spends the next hour rehearsing the things that he plans to say to you as well as how to coerce you to even talking to him.

All that Malleus knows and understands is that you’ve been ignoring him for weeks now and all of a sudden Lilia has found you buried in five volumes of books on Briar Valley’s history.

Malleus is stumped as to what you could even be researching so hard.

The dorm thinks and thinks but they really can’t seem to put their finger on it. Sebek goes with the idea that you really did just want to learn about the amazing land as well as brush up on your incredibly lacking knowledge of the Draconia family. Malleus shoots this down, bringing up your talks together.

Silver is mostly at a loss opting to go with the route of thinking about what’s happened in the past couple of weeks for this bout of isolation from you.

It isn’t until Lilia’s face perks up that he realises what the source of your sadness is. A mischievous expression appears on his face as he does his signature laugh, Malleus of course notices this confusion written all over his face.

Lilia brings Malleus in close and starts to whisper in his ears, soon the whispering dies down and Lilia’s words finally set into Malleus’ brain which causes a deep laugh to arise out of him. Sebek cheers Malleus on loudly, Silver can only sigh at the migraine he’s about to get.

You don’t get a verbal answer only seeing the green light sparks that surround the outside of your rundown dorm.

“Malleus.” Your voice quivers and is quaint, he’s missed it so much. He wants to hold you and never let you go; but that look in your eyes tells him that you’re slipping from him with every second.

You allow him to bring a hand to your cheek which cups it gently, you nuzzle into his cheek however you don’t allow the sensation to last long when you push yourself away from him.

You turn away from him, tears in your eyes. Your name is spoken softly from his mouth much like how the tears roll down your face.

“We can’t be together no more,” you say this and Malleus is very confused. He's waiting for you to explain but you don’t.

He tries to find the words that will tangle him out of this mess yet he finds that his own body betrays him, the silver in his pocket burns.

“I don’t understand,” he finally murmurs out. “Have I done something wrong?” You quickly turn towards him, shaking your head furiously.

“No of course not I-I was just thinking about our future and—“ you pause, he allows you to continue— “The heir to Briar Valley needs a suitable partner! Not some commoner who doesn’t even know how to use magic.” Your voice hiccups as the words blurt out all at once. Malleus stands there stunned.

“Which is why I think it’s best for us to go our separate ways, I don’t want to bring you down.” You sniffle once again, the tears rushing out of you like a waterfall staining your cheeks.

“Why on earth would you think that?” There’s no anger in Malleus’ voice but there’s a hurt, a deep kind of hurt, tone in his voice as he dabs away your tears. He sighs.

“It’s true that I as the Briar Valley’s heir would be betrothed to another, however things have changed now.

Briar Valley may be traditional in the way it presents itself however the time for evolution and change is upon us; that change starts with me and—“ he reaches into his pocket and then gets down on one knee. He speaks your name and then finally reveals what is in his hand.

“Well what did you say!?” Ace rudely interrupts which causes you to frown.

“Don’t interrupt me!” You shout at him, trying to wack at him but failing to do so. “I said no.” The first year’s faces all start to twist before they start shouting at you.

“Weren’t you just really upset over it though, I don’t understand,” Jack says and you shrug.

“I never said I wanted to marry him now, I was just considering the long term effects.” None of them really seem to get it but they’re glad you’re back to your somewhat normal state again.

“So what did ya do with the ring?” Epel asks, eyes big and peering. Your hand dives inside of your school shirt and fishes out a silver ring that’s tied around a chain.

“It’s a reminder,” you say, a soft smile on your lips. You play with the ring, twirling it around your fingers with a soft and dreamy look in your eyes.

The first years are incredibly confused, Ace starts to gag.
