So apparently last year the National Park Service in the US dropped an over 1200 page study of LGBTQ American History as part of their Who We Are program which includes studies on African-American history, Latino history, and Indigenous history.

Like. This is awesome. But also it feels very surreal that maybe one of the most comprehensive examinations of LGBTQ history in America (it covers sports! art! race! historical sites! health! cities!) was just casually done by the parks service.

Please buy this comic, be it trades, issues (physical or digital) this is a super feminist LGBT+ comic for all ages.

Raven the Pirate Princess is Sinking

I despise doing posts where I ask for help, but here we are.

About two years ago I started a new creator owned project.  It began as a spin-off of Princeless, but the reality is this - Raven The Pirate Princess is its own thing altogether.  I knew this from the first issue and if you’ve been reading, so have you.

Sure, the first few issues of Raven: Pirate Princess had that heroic lady feminist banter for which Princeless has become known both among its fans and detractors.  I mean, Raven had this scene:

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

and issue 1 had this scene:

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

But perhaps much more importantly, the first issue of Raven had this:

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

but that wasn’t where that ended.  This is a book about a community of diverse queer women actively claiming their place in the world and taking what’s theirs.  It’s about Raven, who is desperately in love with her childhood best friend Ximena

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

It’s about Ximena, a girl who was held captive for years by a pirate king who pretended to be her liberator.  Who fell in love with the pirate’s daughter, only to be left behind by that father when she outlived her value.

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

About Sunshine, the thief that chose the wrong target and ended up falling in love with a woman already hopelessly in love with somebody else.

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

It’s about Katie, the bisexual second in command who’s motivated by honor…and occasionally beating the snot out of a dude or two

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

Oh and in case I forgot to mention, Katie is also incredibly muscular:

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

And Jayla, the asexual science genius who’s tired of being treated like a little sister

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

and Cid, the deaf engineer who quietly keeps the ship running

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

and of course, these two:

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

The socially awkward poet and the angry sword fighter who couldn’t stand her who have somehow become these two:

Raven The Pirate Princess Is Sinking

But here’s the thing: this comic is failing.  It has a very dedicated and exuberant but at this point SMALL fanbase.  Today I had a hard conversation with Action Lab about the reality of the numbers on this book versus what it costs to produce this book and, suffice it to say, Action Lab isn’t ready to cancel the book, but they aren’t ready to greenlight year 3 either.  After Year 2 #13, Raven is set to go on the shelf until numbers can support continuing it.

This is where I need your help

If you care about this book full of queer pirate ladies and you want it to continue, we need to find a way to spread the word about it.  We don’t need to sell single issues (it would be nice) but ultimately we need the trades sales that back up the continuation of this big YA Pirate/Revenge/Adventure/Romance thing.

Digital copies can be bought instantly right on Comixology: https://www.comixology.com/Princeless-Raven-The-Pirate-Princess/comics-series/46971

You can buy the physical volumes on amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/bookseries/B01BF7U91Q

In fact, if you’ve already purchased volumes 1-4, volume 5 is available for preorder there right now!

Maybe you’ve bought all the issues already.  Thank you!  If you still want to support Raven, you can review the books on Amazon or other retailers, you can share, reblog or retweet this post.  You can tell a friend about the book!

If you have a comics review site or, say, a blog where you talk about LGBT media, contact me for review links or interviews.  Please, help us save our ship.

For me, being an AMAB enby, whenever I put on more “masculine” clothes I always feel like I’m performing masculinity, truly as a performance. Not to say that that’s bad, it isn’t, is just interesting to think/see this act of creation/interpretation I go through, is almost as if I’m an actor stepping in the shoes of a character.

Again, that’s not to say that this is something bad or that I’m not being truthful with myself, is just this self reflection and realization that gender at its core IS performance, a big compilation of arbitrary rules, gender is nothing but a play we all have a part in, some of us just have to go through auditions more than once.

Watching season 2 of Heartstopper makes me love Tao’s mom. She’s so supportive about Elle and Tao being a thing and has BEEN waiting for the day they got together. And she goes on about how the family has been waiting too and wants to tell them. I love his mom 🫶😭💖

Hypothetically, if I wrote a queer-platonic sans x reader, And said reader was also

- gender queer

- a person of color (Latino specifically)

- and neurodivergent

Would anyone read it?

I'd make it regardless, cuz I just want some representation

But would anyone read it??

No hate towards anybody who's not an asshole, but I find it so funny that the tag I use to help me write the queer villain of my smutty fan-fic is also the one where the "loving" and "kind" Christians " express their shock because atheists don't want innocent people to be tortured for eternity but then also don't want convicted murderers and pedophiles getting into Heaven because they said the magic words right before they died. What a contradiction! Don't you know that anyone who doesn't believe in God is literally Hitler?

I’m so happy that a majority of the tua fandom love Viktor Hargreeves. However, seeing the few transphobes that are upset by Viktor’s transition is very funny—especially when they argue that it’s “unrealistic.”

My brothers in christ, this show contains children with super powers, time travel, a talking monkey, a half monkey man, a fucking magical CUBE, and so much more. A trans character is quite literally the most realistic part of this show.

Actually screaming on the inside at how they basically told queerphobes and exclus to please fuck off and explicitly included us aspecs even beyond aesthetics like the pride flags and nail polishes

I agree that not everyone wants to be a teacher and they have the right to not want to, but I would recommend at least giving something the person/people can start with. Give them book recommendations, YouTubers, bloggers, organizations, websites, etc.. Giving them a starting point helps so much!

To add, I have no problems with being asked about being asexual, bi/panromantic, nonbinary, trans guy as long as it's in good faith. When I came out to some co-workers they had so many questions and I let them ask them all. Of course I let them know that my experiences and statements won't match for everyone, but it's a great way for them to get some idea of being queer and now they even know what asexual is, which is less common for people to know than 'lesbian'.

thinking about that time I was at some kind of diversity and inclusion thing that involved discussion in small groups and one straight girl said she really wanted to be a good ally but sometimes there were some things she just didn’t know and was too afraid to ask for fear of accidentally being offensive. and as the only queer person in this 4-5 person group I said well go ahead and ask me, I don’t care if you accidentally use the wrong term right now or whatever, it’s better to talk about it and learn something, I love talking about queerness and I’ll answer the best I can. and she just looked so nervous and in the end wound up refusing to ask for fear of causing offense. and it wasn’t just the group setting, I’ve known straight people to act similarly even when it’s just one on one

and just. you guys. this is what purity culture and the “if you don’t know something you were never a real ally in fact you’re a bigot in fact you’re worse than bigots because you pretended not to be one” attitude does. how can our allies be allies if they’re scared to talk to us? to ask questions, to make mistakes, to learn? can we please bring back the idea of “in good faith”? there’s way more to say here about identity politics and virtue signaling and acting like language is more important than action but I’m too tired for that right now

please feel free to add to the discussion (regardless of if you’re queer or not), I would love to hear about people’s experiences with this and if others feel differently about it

Why do I think this is something Enid would while hanging with Wednesday

Part 2

- as the sun comes over the horizon, I come out from my small tent. The fire has died down, and I find myself with a sense of unease, something was wrong. I continue to pack up my camp, and set off towards the city closer to where I am.

Each step was filled with the same feeling of unease that was felt at the camp. Some kind of spell or hex must have been put on me. I walk the path for many hours until a small cart, and bard stop next to me. He ask if I would like a ride, and I except. I sit on the hay bales as the cart shakes and rattles.

A song fills my head as the world around me starts to fade away. I sat there, trying to understand where I have bee cast to. I feel nothing, the world around me feels like I’ve been put into a box, filled with honey. Unable to move, and unable to see the light of the outside. Moments ago I felt fine, and now I’m anything but.
