James helping a first year that was really homesick and didn’t know where to go and how to find their classes - Lily was on her way to help them - James being there first on his knees telling them it’s okay and taking their hand and walking them to their class and getting in trouble for being late but not telling the teacher why, he got a detention for being late and being disruptive, just for helping someone. Lily realising maybe he isn’t just a pure-blood slob always getting in trouble for pranks, maybe he is a good person.
