dr. malone: knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit- wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad
lyra: philosophy is wondering if that makes ketchup a smoothie
pan: common sense is knowing that ketchup isn’t A FUCKING SMOOTHIE LYRA
Do you think Rachel ever made Cassie morph her and then try on outfits for her so she could see how they looked from all angles?
i’m obsessed with the way the episode titles are not only individual chapters from the books, but also reflect multiple things that occur in the story.
lyra’s jordan showed us her carefree life in oxford, the way her experience of jordan is changed by asriel’s discoveries and the reaction of the scholars, how mrs coulter’s arrival changes the way she looks at oxford and encourages her to leave, and the children disappearing around her
the idea of north reflects on the way lyra sees the north (in the arctic institute) and how her vision is changed when she finds the plans in mrs coulter’s study and discovers something is happening there. and then we have the way the episode ends with roger and the other children going north to “the best place you could possibly go to” and we still aren’t supposed to know what happens there, we only have an idea of north
the spies appear in various forms, firstly the magisterium police force searching the gyptian boats, the spy flies and benjamin and tony sneaking into mrs coulter’s flat to find information. lyra beginning to use the alethiometer is arguably a form of spying, while boreal is shown to spy more and more as he finds out about john parry and his family
armour showed the hunt for iorek’s armour, and the gyptians seek ‘armour’ or protection in the witches, iorek byrnison and lee scoresby
the lost boy is billy costa, but in this episode we are also introduced to will, a boy who is lost without knowledge of his father and the burden of caring for his mother all by himself

God I fucking HATE Reginald Hargreeves because the Sparrow Academy is literally the biggest example of his own ego and abusive habits possible. His children travel back to before he adopts them and openly tell him he was a poor father, one of them literally shows him the physical deformities he left him with, they make it very clear that they are fucked up because of their childhoods and you know what he takes away from that experience? That it was their fault. It wasn’t his choices as a parent or his actions that caused a fucking apocalypse, but that his children just weren’t ‘strong enough’ to handle his abuse. That’s why he chose new people for the Sparrow Academy - because he believes the Umbrella Academy must have just been terrible people, not that he’s at fault for being an abusive father.
I love seeing people’s passion for their deities
I love seeing people’s eyes light up when their deities come up in conversation
I LOVE SEEING PEOPLE LOVING THEIR DEITIES 💞
curling up for an afternoon nap with your dæmon on your face to block the light
going for an early morning jog with your dæmon trailing behind, complaining about the early hour (or running ahead shouting encouragement)
arguing with your dæmon over ingredients in a new recipe (and they’re right, of course)
your and your best friend’s dæmons wrestling in the mud on a rainy day
your dæmon helping with chores around the house
you and your dæmon worrying over your new haircut on the way to school/work
Sirenians, or sea cows, are very unique animals. Related to elephants and hyraxes but originating in the Americas, they are the only fully herbivore aquatic mammals and live in both freshwater and salwater habitats.
*The animals represented here are not to scale and don’t represent a direct line of descent, but rather plausible models for how this amazing transition happened.*

I’ve been really interested in His Dark Materials since the new TV show started. I was looking for more in depth research about the world building of daemons because it’s such a fascinating concept and like I discovered how daemons get their names. So when a child is born, the child’s daemon is named by their parents daemons.
So when Lyra was born and Pan started existing, that means that THIS MOTHERFUCKER
THIS THING is what gave Pantalaimon his name.
You could argue that Stelmaria might’ve contributed to the name but based on the fact that it was a highly scandalous affair, I doubt Asriel was anywhere near Lyra’s birth.
But like, the golden monkey being the one to name Pan is so fucking wild. Like he chose a name based on a Greek saint? A name that basically means all-merciful?
The monkey wanted Lyra to be merciful. He wanted her to have mercy.
