ILVERMORNY HEADCANON [Course Professors & Descriptions]

ASTRONOMY

Professor Ortwin Aurelio

    This class teaches that stars are much more than twinkling lights in the sky.  Offered as an elective class to those in year 4 and above, Professor Aurelio takes his students on a rigorous adventure to the stars.  This course is not for those who need their full 8 hours of sleep as classes have the possibility of being held between midnight and 3AM (when study subjects are at their peak).

     Those who do take this class will experience and learn the wonders of the night sky.  If you so choose to further your education in this area and go to level 2, you will have the opportunity to participate in an annual quest.  A friendly competition between classmates where they must use what they have learned on Star Navigation to find an item hidden by Professor Aurelio himself.  This course is nothing short of enlightening.

BOTANY

Professor Virginia Leon

    Come learn about the magnificent world around you!  As in the literal blade of grass that you are stepping on.  In this course you will learn about the most mundane plants as well as the most complex and mystical ones our world has to offer.  Professor Leon, a world renowned Wizarding Botanist before joining us at Ilvermorny, has been teaching this course for over 50 years.

     Expect to brace yourself as you will be getting up close and personal with some of the most dangerous plants known to witch or wizard while also learning about healing properties as well as what herbs helps top off the school’s world famous roast!

CHARMS

Professor Filimena Godwine

    Learn to bring a whole new meaning to being charming as you come to throw charms without even mumbling a single sound.  Charms is an ever perfecting craft which must be constantly learned.

     Students are required to take this course in their first four years of study, but if they so desire, they may take it for all their years at Ilvermorny.  No matter whether you decide to further your education in charms or not, all witches and wizards will leave this school knowing how to do basic charms without needing to speak their incantation.

CRYPTOZOOLOGY

Professor Newton Aureliana

    The stories that once made you quake in fear and wonder of the Loch Ness or maybe even the Chupacabra are not just folklore, they are the true tales of beasts that roam this earth still. In this course, you will travel from the past and back to learn about some of the most fascinating creatures that have ever been discovered while also coming to know how our community has kept them under wraps from No Mags since the beginning of time.

     This year, we welcome first year Professor Newton Aureliana, as he has dedicated his life to follow in suit of Mr. Newt Scamander and help these magnificent creatures stay well.  All students are required to have a personal copy of Newt Scamander’s “Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them,” other texts will be assigned when deemed necessary as the course progresses.

DEFENSE AGAINST DARK MAGIC

Professor Cicero Alister

    The Dark Forces of magic will have no hold over you once you complete this course.  Being under the instruction of the wondrous and very capable Professor Alister is both a gift and a great privilege, one which should never be taken for granted.  Our world has been under attack by dark magic more than one would like to admit and this class helps to assure that our students will know how to defend themselves and their loved one, should they ever need to rise to the occasion.

     Professor Alister has a vast listing of past experiences which make him well over qualified for this position and you should rest well assured that you will be in good hands and learn more than you could ever possibly imagine.

ELIXIRS

Professor Angus Mordecai

    The art of witches and wizards standing over a bubbling cauldron goes far past any record books still intact today.  From concocting the simple remedy for the common cold to brewing the elixir of life, all will need true patience to succeed in this course.  Professor Mordecai comes from a long line of talent in this subject and Ilvermorny has had the honor of being his home for 23 years now.  He brings to the ingredients table a sense of wonder and intrigue that has captured the minds of students throughout his time here.  Know that in his class you will learn not only about this subject, but of yourself as well.

FLYING

Professor Fida Jacmomina

    The sky is the limit, as the saying goes. But here, within Mount Graylock’s silvery skies, you will learn that there are always exceptions. Students of every year are required to take a class on the skill of broom flying. First years will learn the very basics whilst the upper years can take electives on the topic; ranging from long term flying to competitive broom maneuvers.

KNOWING NO-MAJS

Professor Erika Weisz

    Odd creatures they are; those who live day in and out without the power of magic in their blood. Called No-Majs on this side of the waters, the relationship between they and the wizarding folk of America is full of sorrow and distrust. Students of every year are expected to learn about this messy history between the two, as well as a basic understanding of No-Maj lifestyles and culture in order to blend in between with their kind outside in the world.

MAGICAL HISTORY

Professor Berit Aphra

    As a result of the impressively rich and long history of the Magical World that is in the United States, students are expected to take six years of Magical History. Here, they will learn of their founder, Isolt Sayer and her journey from the clutches of Gormlaith Gaunt to the construction of what we now call Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They will learn of MACUSA’s rise to power, and those who sat as its head. They will learn of the Salem Witches who died within a blaze of fire. They will learn it all. That and so much more.

SKINWALKING

Professor Apisi Nero

    The ancient, Native way of transforming oneself into an animal is kept alive within Ilvermorny’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’s hall. Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh years are required to learn this ancient magical techniques; beginning by identifying their chosen creature, then going forth in the next years in perfecting their transformations.

     Classes are held within the campus’s adjacent forest, underneath the light of the moon during the midsts of the night. It is thought, only then, one can connect truly with their animalistic side.

TRANSFIGURATION

Professor Eponine Avanti

    This class is often viewed on a scale of two very vast extremes, You’re either turning water into rum or turning yourself into a cat.  This course takes transfiguration to a whole new level of extreme and fun.  In your very first two years of education you will come to be able to turn simple objects into whichever your heart desires.  Once you round to your fourth year of instruction in this subject, you will come to participate in Professor Avanti’s game of Transfigure & Seek!

     This is a final exam well loved by all elder years and many of them are known to offer their assistance to the Professor in helping set up, judge or even sit as spectators to cheer on the fourth years.  You will learn much in this class with no shortage of fun in doing so.

XYLOMANCY

Professor Vernon Gwydion

    Often overlooked within the magical community as a ‘flawed’ version of Divination in other countries around the world, the American Wizarding curriculum has, actually, accepted the branch of future viewing as the main way. The uses of twigs within the natural, ancient forests of the United States, such as the pines of Virginia and the Redwoods of California, combined with the art of Xylomancy crafted by the ancient tribes of the past allow for a clearer way into predicting the outcome of the future; a way completely and utterly unique especially to America.

Daemons in School

Students’ daemons lying down in gym to help their people feel less tired, but constantly being yelled at to stand up by the coach

Two students’ daemons discreetly cheating on a test. The teacher’s spider daemon trying to get them to stop, but they don’t notice her

A bully’s daemon in tiger form pins down another student’s pug-daemon, but he is pushed off by a third student’s moose, who helps the pug-daemon up and defends him

In art class, students get the assignment to have their daemon transform into the most colorful thing they can, and to paint it. Half the class are giant rainbow-colored parrots. Some are glittering snakes. One girl, who researches animals all the time, has her daemon change into a rare type of butterfly with beautiful markings. Another student throws realism to the wind and turns his into a giant dragon with neon claws.

A first grader has a “form fight” with a third grader, boths’ daemons changing into random forms as quick as possible whilst fighting. Finally, the first grader wins, her crab latching onto the paw of the other child’s lion. They both get in trouble, and are best friends ever since.

The cheerleaders use their daemons to their advantage. Two of them have big cats–a tiger and a panther–so they stand on the outsides, roaring on que. Three of the girls have birds that fly in sync. Another girl’s daemon hasn’t settled yet so he shifts from a peacock to a bear to a cat, all with varying colors.

On the basketball team, only one girl doesn’t have a big, intimidating daemon. The rest of the team teases her about her moth, who flutters frantically after her during games, but she knows they mean well.

Someone’s deer-daemon trips and hits a bass in the orchestra hall, causing multiple people and instruments to collapse in a startlingly fast sequence of events. After making sure no damage was done and nobody was hurt, all the orchestra students share a laugh about that event, nicknaming the boy and his daemon, “clumsy-hooves.”

I have so many ideas about daemons in school tbh

Offerings and their Removal

Disclosure, this may not apply to everyone! Cherry pick it if that works for you, or take none at all. Just no hate or arguments in the comments!

Definition- Offering - Something given to an entity or deity to show appreciation. This can also be something done or said to show appreciation.

~~~~~Types of Offerings~~~~~
Food- In ancient tradition, specifically Greek, the first bites of food were thrown into the fire to be sent through the gods by smoke. However, this isn't an option for many people these days. Alternative methods are favored.
Fire - The old methods are still applicable if available. If one has a bon fire or fire-place/hearth, the first bite of food can still be "smoked" , per-say.
Prayer - A small prayer can be said over food before the first bite is taken. Just a simple "Entity/spirit, please accept this offering, Blessed Be" or something similar can suffice. This, for some deities like Hestia can be done at the end too. This is more convenient for a hidden practice and for those who can't afford to waste food.
Altar- If you have an altar, or ever a small bowl, they can place the first bite of food there for the deity entity too.
Objects and Trinkets- Just like us, deities/entities love little trinkets. Whether it be a few coins you find nice to a statue or an engraved candle. Whatever it my be, it can be given to an entity with a prayer and/or on an altar in their honor.
Removables - There are some things that can be placed on altar and taken off. I like to call them removables. When placed on an altar, one could say "Entity/Deity, bless this object, with your energy and blessings." let it sit for a moment or cleanse with incense. If a clothing item, accessory, or perfume, you can take it off and use/wear it. Just remember to put it back to refresh the energy and discuss before taking it off for the first time.
Actions - There are also things that one can do in offer of a deity or entity. They can be small things, like prayers, to full-on rituals.
Prayer- This is probably the easiest in my opinion. It can be a small "Hey entity/deity, I appreciate you." on the go, or reciting a hymn or a prayer by the altar. It's incredibly diverse and can meld to any practice.
Chores - This can apply more to some deities than others, but just Keeping your room and house tidy can be done in honor of a deity. Altars specifically can be cleaned or re-arranged as an offering
Art-In ancient times, arts of every kind were offered to deities ant spirits. And it can fit most anyone's style.
Music- written specifically or just a song you think reminds you of them. Drawings/Paintings- try thing that reminds you of the deity or how you see them can be drawn or painted. Others- Pottery, Dance, Crocheting or handy crafts, or even more. All can be done in offering to a deity. Specifics - If you have done research into who you're offering to, you can offer specific things. Sleep for Hypnos, Baking bread for Hestia, Rehearsing if in the arts for Dionysus, etc. Self Care- This not a lot of people think applies, however the gas most want you to be kind to your self. whether it be a bath with oils, flower petals, and all the works to just brushing your teeth at night. All would make the gods/entities very proud of you!!
~~~~~Disposal~~~~~

This is something a bit more difficult; You did the thing, you think it's time, now what do you do? A decent chunk of this section was taken from @khaire-traveler. Obviously, actions cannot be "removed" Once the action is complete, the offering is sent.

Food- khaire narrowed it into 4 options that I really like. Just remember, when on an alter, don't let it sit too long for health concerns (rotting, bugs, etc.)

Consume - After praying aver the food like I had mentioned before.

Bum - Also mentioned before, but can be done after sitting at an altar for awhile.

Bury- Food offerings. if safe for local wildlife, can be buried. "My logic in burying them (only if environmentally safe) is returning the offering to the earth in a sense." (khair-3) (Yes its MLA cited, AP capstone has rotted my brain) If that fits Your practice, it is a good option.

Dispose, - This, like everything else here, must be done with respect. Clarify with the entity/deity that you aren't doing so out of disrespect, rather because this is your preferred disposal style or your only option

Objects/Art Pieces- If you have this ability, talk to your entity/deity about it, clarify there is no disrespect in the removal, and give the deity some time to de-attach to it. Slowly, the energy will fade from the object when kept away from the altar. This doesn't need to a ritual, but can be if that's what you prefer

Thank you for reading! This is my first fore into the pagan-sphere, so if this is something a lot of people like, I'll continue! Blessed Be, Alyssa the Witch!

Hello! I’m hoping your blog is still active, I’m assuming that’s what the little green dot means :) I’m reeeeaaally new at dæmonism, like I’ve been doing it for a few days, and I was wondering what weight projection feels like? Coz I’m projecting my dæmon as being sat on my leg and I can actually feel a weird tingly weighty feeling on my leg where I’m projecting her and idk if I’m doing it right. I don’t actually know if I’m doing any of this right 😂 thanks for reading this, if you do :) x

Hi! Welcome to daemonism and the community ^^

That’s a really interesting question, actually- I haven’t really thought about it before. Most of Splash’s (my daemon’s) forms are either very small (rhino beetle, horsefly, chickadee) or very large (coyote, bison, python), so the “weight” of them varies widely.

For really small forms I can kind of describe it as that feeling you get when you’re sure there’s a bug on you, but there actually isn’t. Kind of a “I’m not touching you!” sensation? “Tingly weighty feeling” actually describes it pretty well. And honestly for the rest of them it just takes a little extra “immersion” (for lack of better word) to project weight. To use the example of one of our comfort forms (Indian rock python):

Hello! I’m Hoping Your Blog Is Still Active, I’m Assuming That’s What The Little Green Dot Means

(Big Snek)

Back to the “I’m not touching you” feeling, put your hand flat out on a table or something and pretend there’s a heavy cube or ball holding it down. If you respect the rule of the fake cube and accept that you can’t move your hand, your hand starts feeling a little heavier. In this “cuddling with Big Snek” diagram, Splash is on top of me, and while I could technically get up because he’s not corporeal, I’m not going to unless he moves. So by default of him being in that space and me accepting being “pinned,” it’s kind of like tricking my body into thinking something is there weighing me down, and I feel heavier where I’m projecting him. The idea that he takes up space is important- there’s gotta be room for him.

It’s all kind of conceptual and I’m not sure that ANY of this makes sense to anyone reading my ramblings (I get very long winded and I apologize), feel free to let me know if that’s the case and I’ll try again! TL;DR I think it sounds like you’re projecting weight perfectly fine, and this is basically just how I got to a point where it feels easier and more natural. If you find that you have forms that your daemon takes frequently, do a quick google to see how the size and weight of that animal is, relative to a human! It’s super easy and very helpful, though of course you don’t have to strictly abide by reality with this sort of thing.

Anyways I hope literally any of this helped, again if it doesn’t make sense I’m happy to clarify, and I’m always happy to try and answer any other questions ^^
