I’m reading His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman for the first time and it just occurred to me that like…. my depression would be alleviated so much if I had a daemon??? Like imagine having a physical manifestation of your soul that has known and loved you since birth reassure you when you’re alone and scared and sad because you’re never actually alone… like most people, my depressive episodes are always worst when I’m alone in my room with no one and nothing but my cruel depressive thoughts. That depression prevents you from reaching out to people and telling them how you’re feeling and prevents you from really hearing or believing people when they try to help you but imagine having a daemon there to hold you and comfort you and tell you that your cruel thoughts about yourself aren’t true and they should know because they know you better than anyone. Having a physical voice there to contradict those cruel thoughts would be so amazing like wow I always sort of wish I had a daemon from a “who wouldn’t want a talking animal companion!” perspective but now I wish I had one because it would make my whole life better to never have to be completely alone with my own thoughts.

first thing in the morning—take three slow deep breaths (air/sky) more grounding than immediately checking a phone
notice your feet on the ground taking root when you stand up for the first time of the day, take a little stretch (earth/land)
wash or splash your face to get alll the way awake. then chug a big glass. (water/sea)
appreciate any trees, plants, dirt, or clouds you see
place both hands on your heart to feel your own heat and warmth. feel your heart beating. “i am alive” (fire)
wear or carry a rock, hagstone, crystal, talisman, or amulet
in times of stress or dissociation, rub your thumb in small circles on the back of your other hand to ground and soothe. (clockwise for attracting an intention, counterclockwise for banishing)
color magic with clothing
add cinnamon, lavender, or peppermint to coffee according to intention if you don’t want to drink tea
stirring tea/coffee according to intention
sometimes i pick a little affirmation for the day— “may i forgive myself” “the universe is within me/the wild is within me”
visualization—inhale a bright light and let it fill your lungs, exhaling clouds of negativity
or create a shield with breathing. with each breath, imagine a bubble forming around your body, then your aura, growing with strength.
cleansing shower at the end of the day (intending it to cleanse my aura makes me more motivated to take one, idkw)
if taking a bath, add a dash of moon water
sniff lavender essential oil before bed
look at the moon, talk to it. remind yourself that it’s the same one your ancestors knew.

Okay, but the Taboo wouldn’t count for parents and young children, right? I mean, toddlers are naturally grabby and it’s just their way of looking for comfort, and babies are babies, there’s no stopping them. How could they not hold onto their parent’s dæmons, especially if they’re larger animals? That’d probably be a safe place for them, something comforting. And besides don’t parents have to hold baby dæmons in order to carry their baby from room to room?

Capheus wins the election, of course he does. He wins re-election, too…but probably not the one after that. It’s difficult, you see, to be the face of anti-corruption when your father-in-law is a drug lord.
He stays in politics, though. Zakia needs someone to drive her tour bus.
Wolfgang and Felix go with the India Plan, and the story is that, after the scare of Kala being shot, she and Rajan hired this scary-looking Germans as bodyguards. After a year or so, Kala’s parents suspect something but would rather not think about it and Rajan’s father is oblivious.
They’re all pretty good at keeping up the act - Felix is surprisingly fantastic at covering for the three of them - but now and then, someone will approach Rajan and suggest, sometimes genuinely sympathetically, that his wife might, just maybe, be…
Rajan is amazing at looking shocked and offended that you would even imply this about his beautiful wife. Of course she is perfectly honest, and their marriage has never been steadier! How dare you!
They have two daughters. The second is conspicuously light-skinned. People have almost given up commenting.
Lito has like two weeks in the middle of filming where he’s half-convinced that Hernando is going to leave him for Blake Huntington, because Blake can talk about Kant and metaphor and all those things that make Lito love Hernando so much but he Does Not understand. Hernando, of course, is stifling completely irrational spikes of rage every time he watches Lito kiss Blake, because…it never bothered him when it was women, you know, because he knew Lito wasn’t really interested. That it could never be real. But not only is Blake Huntington, well, Blake fucking Huntington, 3-time Academy Award winner, hot as a steaming griddle, and clever and educated to boot, but he’s male and Lito is out, and playing this role that is 50% his own story anyway, and here’s Blake being the love of his life… Meanwhile, Lito is off crying on a pillow somewhere because Hernando and Blake were talking about Proust…
Dani sorts this out by
a) shutting them in the bedroom until they talk to each other, and
b) sleeping with Blake Huntington and claiming dibs by right of First Bang.
she also, incidentally, prints cards for herself as an agent, and gets a lot of calls
The whole cluster, plus friends and family, flies to LA for the opening night of Iberian Dreams. Lito spends half of it full-on sobbing, at his own acting and more importantly because his dream is coming true.
The only one crying harder is Bug.
Nomi and Amanita stay in San Francisco, for the most part. They take a lot of romantic vacations to visit their family around the world, and take turns bringing each other coffee and pastries while they co-write a fictionalized, urban fantasy version of their story. Because even if the details need to stay secret, there are some things you need to say loud and proud.
Sun and Mun probably get married eventually, but they never have biological human children. They have a lot of dogs, and eventually Mun gets shot one too many times and she convinces him to quit the force and go work in a dojo. He loves it. Sun, meanwhile, is back at Bak, rebuilding her family name and doing finance by day and fistfights by night. The other fighters know her now, though. As do the kids Mun trains. It’s a really great extended family.
Will does not move to Iceland so much as move to Riley, and Riley’s home is Iceland but she cannot stay there, not always. Fortunately, there are clubs all over Europe that will open the doors and vive la resistance for Riley Blue.
In only a few years, she is pregnant again - though not with a child this time. With eight.
They go home for this. She has nightmares, of the car and the frozen hill and the empty church in equal parts.
It is nothing like that. They are on the beach, because it felt right, righter than her living room. Will holds her hands, as do Nomi, Lito, Sun, Capheus, Kala, Wolfgang. The sun is setting, but it is summer in Iceland; it is warm. Around the world, eight other people open their eyes and see the sunset as well, and their mother exhausted but smiling.
They will never be hunted.
One thing they don't tell you about being an adult therian is that much of the online community gradually feels more and more alienating. Posts about wearing gear to school or writing about your theriotype at college stop feeling relatable. And it's admittedly hard not to get grumpy about it. Sure, occasionally you see some insights about working a 9 to 5 when you're a dog, or managing your appointments when you're a bird, but most of the short-form writings you come across feel less like the relevant ramblings of your peers, and more like looking through a window at a life you had to leave behind. I don't miss school, good gods, nothing could ever make me wish I was 16 again. But I do miss the relative simplicity of it, and the ease with which I related to other school-age therians.
Are daemons furries? Discuss.
How as Priest, devotees, and other followers of Aphrodite can we most profoundly increase our connection to her while also venerating her?
It’s simpler then it sounds actually. But the most profound way I’ve found to understand and grow closer to a deity is to apply self discipline to imitate them and their values. In Aphrodite’s case we must examine her as a Goddess. What is she? At her core? She is love, unbridled and unrestricted love and beauty. She exist in all things that fall under this, in the delicate brush strokes of an oil painting, in the bashful smiles of new love, it is these things in which the Goddess resides. We can use this in our practice but choosing to project that energy.
When feeling emotionally triggered ask yourself, what would Aphrodite do? How can I apply love to this situation? Does it warrant the wrathful side of love? Or is there something that can be done to maintain or restore harmony with peace? Before acting ask yourself, is this loving? Does this express love to myself? Does the express love to others?
Show love. Tip 50% just because you can, send that text message, buy a gift, kiss your partner, compliment a stranger.
Show self love.
Go to therapy. Rest. Wear some perfume or cologne, take a shower for the feeling, exercise, compliment yourself anytime you find yourself insulting yourself. Set a boundary. Do shadow work. Meditate. Do positive affirmations as often as you can.
Create beauty.
Paint, sing, compose, draw, write, sculpt, even if you think you suck. Have a conversation with a friend. Tell a story. Clean your home. Light some incense.
