vincent being afraid of doctors as an adult without really understanding why.
vincent feels the physical symptoms of anxiety, with unrationalised fear of the doctor that caused him to practically attack his doctor, who was then saved by a very concerned reeve.
they have to take him to cloud's doctor, who specializes in ex-SOLDIER care, in that his office looks unlike the labs in all ways possible. no coats, no mako tanks, and ecstatic consent with every action. cloud mostly only goes for emergencies, or when tifa and marlene bully him into it, but cid and reeve grew up on yearly doctor's visits. besides the fact that vincent has a more "dangerous job", the two of them worry about vincent's mysterious medical history.
eventually vincent puts it together that he's equating nibelheim's basement to doctor's offices, lucrecia's prodding to blood tests. cid and reeve insist they come with, and vincent doesn't need to come along to theirs.
i've said it once and i'll say it again: the worst part of final fantasy iv is the the part right after they defeat the giant of babil and cecil makes rosa and rydia get off of the lunar whale because "he needs to protect them" (implying they cannot protect themselves) (they've been functioning as healers for the last 10 hours of gameplay and cecil can't learn white magic past cura. he can't heal for shit!) (implying the final team against zeromus is going to be five men.) and then rosa and rydia sneak on the lunar whale and they come along anyway.
you will never convince me that makes sense. that after years of knowing rosa, that out of the blue cecil no longer respects rosa as a knight, and rydia as a summoner. NONSENSE. random, misogynstic nonsense.
cid highwind but he has chronic pain and that's why he's so grumpy all the time because he wouldn't be able to go to space at all now.
cid highwind but he has chronic pain and he has a cane that yuffie had custom made in wutai for him.
cid highwind but he has chronic pain so he and barret start a "disabled club" where they both mostly bitch and moan about their disabilities and gush about their daughters.
cid highwind but he has chronic pain and he lives with vincent who has his own physical issues (chronic exhaustion + light sensitivity) and they support each other best they can. (i also think they live with reeve, who mostly just suffers from anxiety, but. reevincid is not very popular LOL)
cid highwind but he has chronic pain.
in honor of me finally recovering from this flare up (GRARGH.) i am inflicting my ache on vincent.
after literally 3 decades of practically hibernating, vincent likely had a lot of issues with aches and pains when moving too much- being active. his limits are hard for him to keep track of until he's past them, because they change on him quite often.
he finds that cold helps more than heat- it reminds him of the cold of the nibelheim manor. he doesn't necessarily like that aspect, but when he ends up settling with cid in rocket town, the cold up there is a comforting cold.
i like to imagine reeve is embarrassed, a little, about using cait sith. everyone else on the team can use their real bodies, really be in the fight, physically put their lives and livelihoods on the line. aerith gainsborough dies, in their quest to save the planet from sephiroth. in dirge of cerberus, he holds himself as if he doesn't see himself as a real member of the group, only someone who helped out.
i think yuffie probably helps the most with this- recalling things cait sith did in battle, treating him as if he's been there the whole time. (she's probably got a little bit of it on her own, what with being the youngest member, and with different motivations than everyone else.)
when cid and vincent get clued in on reeve's imposter syndrome, they're probably much less subtle about supporting him. cid isn't exactly a subtle man in the first place, and vincent doesn't do a lot of nuance in his day-to-day life (autistic old man.). telling reeve how proud they are of the good he's doing, attending all his little team building whatchamacallits, just generally doing their best to be supportive. by being the best husbands they can be.
having a flare up = forcing it on my blorbos of the month
zack revival after meteorfall au where he has chronic pain and cloud takes care of him on his hard days which is hard for zack because he's always been the one taking care of everyone around him. he was helping aerith with her flower wagons, he was trying to help angeal and sephiroth and genesis stay sane, hell he was trying to help cloud with his motion sickness!! and now his body revolts and makes him sore and exhausted for days on end.
cloud tries to convince him he really doesn't mind takin' care of him, that he loves him, but it's hard for him to take, y'know? it's hard to accept help when it feels like accepting defeat, and it's even harder to accept help when you don't exactly know what's goin' on.
ugh i'm so tired of this you guys
thinking about "say goodnight, pippilly...!" followed by the losing music.
reeve being anxious about one thing or another but vincent and cid (and yuffie and shelke, sometimes) are always there to help him
always catching when he's overthinking something
dragging him away from wro hq to go out with them for dinner
being with him after some sort of scare, so he knows they're all okay
helping him get through panic attacks, if and when he has them
yuffie sends him updates when she's away in wutai, or on a mission
shelke updates reeve on cid and vincent, since neither of them are technology experts, and she's with them all the time anyway.
cid likes to have reeve "help" him bake (reeve just sits there, and they talk, mostly.)
vincent takes naps on reeve when he's home, since reeve always seems to worry the most about vincent.
day dreaming about commissioning someone to draw rufus and tseng from my own fic. i know what i want it to look like but i can't draw for the LIFE OF ME.
imagine. it's sunset in junon. rufus and tseng stand side by side, rufus leaning over the railing on the airstrip. rufus is looking over the ocean, tseng is not-so-subtly looking lovingly at rufus. rufus is in a baby blue sweater vest, a white dress shirt underneath, khakis and dress shoes. a jacket tied over his shoulders, a platinum wristwatch on his wrist. his hair is gelled back. tseng is out of uniform too- a deep red silky dress shirt, not quite buttoned all the way up. he's wearing black slacks and his holster, his hair down and cascading over his shoulders.
is the vision there?? do we see it?? do we hate it??
playing rebirth makes me feel SO BAD for reeve/cait sith. he tries SO HARD to convince AVALANCHE that he's truly on their side, that he wants to help people and do the right thing, and right when they're FINALLY warming up to him, rufus/tseng/whoever makes him throw that trust away and give away the keystone. he doesn't WANT TO T-T
even in the beginning of chapter 12, when he pulls cloud aside, he's trying to talk them out of going, so he doesn't have to trick his friends. he doesn't want to betray these people who are trying to save the planet.
side note. do we think any other exectives know about reeve's little switcheroo with the wanted posters??
it kills me when i get into a fandom and the my favorite ship doesn't have a ship name. i don't want to write a/b. i want to write some stupid insider thing that i don't even really get, y'know?
