Track Meet, but not that kind

Pairing: Dustin Brooks / Bee (OC) / Hunter Bradley

Word Count: 1452

Summary: Bee and Dustin are down at the track when they meet to brothers, one of which catches their eye. 

Notes: Bee’s name is metioned once, so if you want to imagine its reader you can. This is all from Bee’s perspective. 

It’s a track day, like every other day. I came with Dustin and Kelly, who were timing Dustin’s lap times. I’m watching him make his way around the track, jumping the hills and such. He’s in the front of his group when two bikes I’ve never seen before come up behind him on one of the jumps. 

One rider is wearing dark blue equipment, and the other is wearing dark red, going too fast for me to make out their bike numbers. They’re giving Dustin a run for his money after they show up, never straying too far ahead or far back but staying neck-and-neck with him. That is until Red and Blue both make it in front of him on another hill. It’s a short distance to the finish line after that, both unknown riders crossing simultaneously, and Dustin on their tale. 

 Dustin pulls up off the track and up to Kelly and me at our spot by the Storm Chargers van. Kelly is grabbing him water when he rips off his helmet, looking in the direction of where the mystery riders have also pulled off the track. 

“Man, you ever seen those guys before?” Dustin says, a little out of breath. 

“Nope, but maybe they were going too fast to see” I joke, moving to sit in the back of the van, legs still hanging out the side. 

“They ride like factory pros, I would’ve remembered” Kelly hands him his water, then puts her hands in her back pockets, looking at the riders too.

“I’m just glad they don’t race 125s” Dustin sighed, still catching his breath. 

The two riders, Red and Blue I’ve decided to call them, pull off their helmets with Red shaking his head a little. Almostlike a dog. Blue has short, dark black hair and a darker complexion than his friend, Red, who is quite the opposite with shaggier, light blonde hair. 

“I don’t know, that red one’s kinda cute…” I trail off, moving to stand next to where Dustin is still on his bike. 

“Oh, you would say that” Dustin laughs, finally taking his eyes off the two, looking at me with a smile. 

“Wait, what’s that supposed to mean?” I gasp, laughing as well, hitting his shoulder with my hand. 

“It means you have a type. Moto boys.” Kelly’s also laughing now. 

“Oh whatever” I exclaimed.

“Hey, no one’s complaining!” Dustin says before adding, “Especially not me” and winking at me as he gets off his bike, handing me his water.

I roll my eyes but smile nonetheless. 

“I’m gonna go introduce myself, you comin’?” Dusting asks.

I nod, waving bye to Kelly.

Me and Dustin start walking making our way to Red and Blue, Dustin swinging his arm around my shoulder. 

“Hey there! How’s it going?” Dustin starts. 

“Hey,” I add, crossing my arms with Dustin’s water still in my hand. 

“Tracks a little soggy” Red says, swinging his leg over the bike while Blue gets off his and walks around to us. 

“Well, it didn’t seem to slow you guys down” Dustin compliments.

“Hey, I’m Blake”, the one in blue says, reaching up and giving Dustin a high five/grabbing his hand that’s not around my shoulder. He tries to do the same to me but I keep my arms crossed. I’m about to explain when Dustin speaks first. 

“Yeah man, don’t take it the wrong way, she’s weird about that kind of stuff” Dustin uses his arm over my shoulder to nudge me, making us sway a bit. 

Blake’s eyebrows raise, looking back and forth between Dustin and me, clearly noting that I’m unbothered by Dustin’s arm. Red is now fully facing us and leaning back against the side of his bike seat. 

“When you’re right, you’re right. It’s nice to meet you, though.” I shrug, “I’m Bee”

“Bee?” Red says in disbelief, looking at me like I’ve lost my head. 

“What can I say? My parents had a sense of humor” I chuckle, giving him a smile. Yeah, he’s cute. I watch as Red nods his head, a smirk coming to his lips. 

“Nice to meet you guys” Dustin smiles. 

“My brother Hunter” Blake nods his head as he gestures to Red, or Hunter. 

“Hey”, Hunter responds, nodding at us. 

I give him a nod in return. 

“Hey, what you me- you guys are brothers?” Dustin says quickly, his tone is a little questioning but not rude, just surprised. I still nudge his side for his bluntness. 

 “We're adopted,” Hunter answered, his tone and facial expression saying he’s used to that reaction. 

 “Oh, right. Oh, cool.” Dustin stammers for a second before quickly moving to change the subject, “Well, my name's Dustin. I haven't seen you guys out here before. Where's the home track“ 

“Uh- we come down from-“ Blake starts to answer before Hunter cuts him off.

“You wouldn't have heard of it,” Hunter says quickly, shaking his head and shutting down the question. Dustin’s ever-eternal smile drops a little, his arm on my shoulder tensing. 

My eyes squint a bit in response, giving Hunter a look up and down. Ok, maybe not cute then. 

“Easy bro.” Blake lightly reprimands, before easing the tension with, “And he wonders why we don't have any friends.”

It doesn’t work as well as it’s intended to, I can tell Dustin’s still a little uncomfortable and I am too. I uncross my arms and lift my left hand to grab his hand that’s at my left shoulder, interlocking our fingers and squeezing his hand. I let my arm dangle there, still holding each other. Dustin eases again.

“Hey, listen, man, you were pretty fast out there before,” Blake adds, still trying to make up for his brother’s brashness. 

Dustin doesn’t seem to believe him though. 

“Yeah right man, I must be giving up a couple seconds a lap to you guys-“ He’s barely finished his sentence when Hunter quips,

“You get too much air on your jumps. It slows you down.” 

Dustin seems taken aback by this statement.

Blake shrugs, making a face that says ‘well yeah’ before he says, “He's right. Dark and brooding, but right.” 

Dustin looks down at me, almost like he’s asking if I’m hearing or believing what they're saying.

“Well don’t look at me.” I say, giving a slight chuckle, “I was watching you, not your time.” 

Dustin rolls his eyes, “I don’t even know why I bring you here, honestly.” 

“Oh please, you bring me here to help you meet cute new friends” I smile before turning back to Hunter and Blake. I give a little gasp, acting shocked and adding, “Oh look! I found some” I wink at them, flashing a smile. Their eyebrows raise in response, Hunter huffing a bit of a laugh.

“That is not why I bring you here” Dustin declared, shaking his head, still looking at me. 

“No, but maybe it should be, just take a look” I tease, reaching my right hand up to move his face in the brother’s direction. Dustin laughs, completely detaching himself from me and swatting my hand away. He’s flustered because he knows he agrees, they are cute. 

“Alright, alright, enough” He puts his hand out in front of him, making space. 

The two brothers are laughing a bit, looking amused, before Blake says, “Listen, uh, what are you guys doing now? You want to follow us?“

 “Um, actually man, can we take a rain check? We gotta be somewhere.” Dustin sighed, seeming a little bummed. Ah yes, training is no joke. Shane will literally end us if we’re late. 

“Yeah, but totally next time” I agree, tossing Dustin his water. 

“Yeah. No worries.” Hunter stands up, bumping his fist against Dustin’s chest plate, winking at me and saying, “Next time.” Before walking away. 

“Yeah, cool. Next time.” Dustin and I turn to head back towards Kelly and the van. 

“Later,” Blake calls after us, our backs already to him. 

“Oh, he was so hitting on us,” I tell Dustin, hitting his bicep with the back of my hand before grabbing his hand. “Hunter” I clarify. 

“No way, man” Dustin laughs out, then seeming to think about it goes, “Wait, you really think so?” 

“Yes!” I say, enthused, giving his arm a jostle.

“I think he was hitting on you, not us” He chuckles, slightly shaking his head.

“He eyed you once or twice, I’m sure of it” I assured. 

“Whatever dude, let’s hurry up, I don’t need any more late-to-training punishments” Dustin replied, using our conjoined hands to pull me towards the van faster. 

“I’m only letting you change the subject because if you’re late, I’m late” I groaned, moving to keep up with him.

I'm going to put this under a cut, bc currently I have actually no idea what's going on with the timeline for s5, and as things air, I'll update this continually, and it can be used as the most updated resource whenever you open it!

*disclaimer - I understand the crossover is supposed to line up w LS’s timeline or whatever but it absolutely does not work for our timeline. So this is purely OG’s timeline, bc I don’t watch LS, and also our timeline is a lot more logical.*

Just a note - anything that’s currently speculation is gonna be in blue. As we get confirmation of things, I’ll add in confirmed info and put things in black, and anything that’s wrong will be removed/edited.

Also, episodes tend to happen over several days’ time, so if you’re looking for an EXACT date for a little scene in an ep, I mostly don’t have it for you, but you should put it within the week I’ve given, relative to where it went in the ep. (Eg a call later in the ep would be more likely to have happened on Thursday or Friday.)

Also re: s4. COVID does not work as a good timeline indicator for this show, AT ALL. Its sort of like the whole “do they have regular shifts” debate - the writers wrote the stories they wanted to tell, and then fit COVID in around that. Also it got really screwed by them being done filming before it hit, but not having aired any of s3B yet. And then both bc COVID can’t be used to figure out time, and also bc it wasn’t aired normally, it is a lot more nebulous timeline-wise, I did my best though 😂

1987 - 1992: Eddie is born SOMETIME in this time window. Personally I like him in 1989/90, bc it makes him 21 when Christopher is born, but I think 1987 is also very plausible since that’s when RG is born.

Fall 1989: “Athena Begins” starts, continues through 1991 (Emmett dies on Feb 17th, 1991).

Somewhere between Feb 15 and mid September 1991: Buck is born.

Sometime Aug - Dec 1992: Daniel dies.

2000: Albert is born.

Aug 2000 - Feb 2001: Michael and Athena get married.

2002: May is born. (Discussion on May’s birth year here)

2005: Chim joins the firehouse, events of Chimney Begins stretch out over ~2007?? Unclear exact time frame but before Hen joins and over at least a year, if not more.

2006: Josh joins dispatch.

Sometime?? In 2008: Hen joins LAFD to be a paramedic. I really don’t have a good measure for this one bc it apparently takes years to become a paramedic but this is one area where the writers don’t give a SHIT about reality bc she has to join in 2008 for a comment in Future Tense to make sense. So just - early 2008 probably for this one.

Jan 2009: Hen joins the 118.

2009: Harry is born.

2010 or early 2011: Eddie enlists in the army for the first time - coincides with Shannon getting pregnant. (As of now, no idea if they were married before or after she got pregnant. Timeline of him enlisting in response to the pregnancy though indicates to me maybe they were already married.)

2011: Denny is born.

2011: Christopher is born. (Anyone curious, personally, I’d put his birthday somewhere in Jan-early March, late May-early Sept, purely bc I refuse to think at this point that Christopher’s birthday has happened while the show has been airing and Eddie hasn’t mentioned it. So it must be during usual hiatus times 😂)

Dec of 2014: “Bobby Begins Again” starts.

2015: Eddie is deployed a second time, his helicopter crashes/he’s discharged from Army/Shannon leaves him and Christopher

Sometime Aug-Dec 2016: Bobby becomes captain of the 118.

arg i love this but i do have to give creds to @ddejavvu for writing something extremely similar with james x r !! please go give them a read, they're a favorite little mini-series of mine :))

another late night shift at the hospital and you're hauling up the next basket of laundry from the washing machine that's in need of replacement, the dryer beside it shaking and rumbling against the back wall its shoved up against. the cracked plastic of the laundry basket burrows into the flesh of your hip as you trudge up the steps, eyes weary and worn from textbooks that hold foreign tongues of chemistry and history. "scott! laundry!" you bellow in your passing of his room, footsteps still heavy when you continue along the hallway in search of the bathroom.

thick rolls of steam tendril through the open crack, and you nudge open the door with a sock-clad toe, announcing your arrival with a fatigued "hey stiles."

the metal rings screech against their bar as the shower curtain gets yanked back, stiles' head peeking out from the right. brown curls mat against his forehead, mole-specked cheeks slick with water. "hey," he coughs with cratering dimples. "back from the library?"

you nod, grabbing your toothbrush from the holster balancing on the porcelain edge of the sink. "yeah, mr. harris is on my ass again," you huff, shoving the bristles into your mouth as stiles shuts the water off. "damn alkynes."

a single hand carries the weight of the towel over stiles' junk as he steps out of the tub, and you lean back against the sink, frowning around the toothbrush. "they're simple once you get 'em," he huffs, leaning over to use the end of the towel to dry out his growing hair. "no biggie. you bring your textbook back home?"

you nod, eyes drifting over to the open bathroom door as your brother lolls by, in search of his own toothbrush. "i interrupting something?" he scoffs, reaching around you and jostling you in the effort.

you catch your weight with another scowl, toothpaste bubbling up around the corners of your lips. "fuck you, scott." you gripe, and stiles reaches over to smear away the minty paste.

he suckles the thumb back into his own mouth, and you and scott both scowl, and you go so far as to jab at his bare shin with a swift kick. "you're gross." you spit the glob into the basin, wiping at your mouth with the back of your hand. "and i can see your dick. go get dressed so you can teach me alkynes."

Kira: Er...how will we know it's the entrance to a secret passage? What does a secret passage entrance look like?

Ethan: It won't look like one, of course!

Conner: Oh, well, in that case I see dozens of secret passages. Doors, windows, that calendar from Angel Grove High School, that cupboard over there, that rathole, that desk, that-

Ethan: You're just being sarcastic.

Conner: Actually, I was just being flippant, but I can do sarcastic if you like.
