Dating a Freak

Boaz Priestly x reader

Summary: You reminisce over the course of your amazing relationship.

Dating A Freak

The time spent with Priestly has been the best time of your life. Every day was amazing. It was filled with filled with laughter and love, and it was an adventure. It made you remember how you fell in love.

You first met when you applied for the job at Beach City Grill, with your novelty movie t-shirt and a bubbly attitude. "She's gotta pass the interview first." Piper said.

"I'm cool with that." You smiled.

"Okay then," Priestly then leaned on the counter. "Elvis. Dead or alive?"

"Easy, alive. Next question."

"You're hired." He said. You chuckled and looked at Trucker, who smiled and shrugged.

You then helped with cooking the meat, as well as baking cookies for the kids meals. Priestly would constantly make jokes to you, and you always laughed. Sometimes when he was doing one of his random debates with Trucker, you'd hype the both of them up, just to get a kick out of Priestly getting more excited and energized over whatever they were talking about.

Regulars loved you. You would always make extra cookies for the two old people who would come in, as well as the kid who came in weekly. He was an adult already, but was autistic. He looked uncomfortable when he first walked in since everybody was staring at him, so you couldn't help but smile at him and give him some cookies. He smiled back at you and would come back every Tuesday during lunch.

Sometimes guys would try to hit on you. You'd ask for their order and they'd try their best to get you to come with them after work. Usually your roll your eyes and say, "Tish, you have a customer."

Sometimes you'd just turn them down flat. Either way you handled them, it always put a smile to Priestly's face. Not that you knew.

But there was one day where Priestly wasn't at work yet, and these guys walked in. One of them tried to get you come home with him, and you told him that you weren't like that. He scoffed. "C'mon, you won't get this opportunity all the time. It's not like I'm asking for your face. You just happen to have a nice body."

You threw his order at him. "Just fucking pay and leave. Learn how to take a damn rejection."

He paid and stormed out with his friends. One of his friends stayed behind and told you, "He's right, y'know." and left.

You don't know why their words hit you so hard, but they did. What if they were right? "You alright angel?"

"Um, yeah, yeah," you said with a smile that you could barely muster up. "I just need some time alone for a bit."

You then sat in the storage room and silently cried. Priestly walked in and announced himself before asking where you were. They told him what happened and he rushed over to the storage room. He saw you on the floor, with your face in your hands. "Y/n." He kneeled down.

"Do you think I'm ugly?" Your voice was quiet, and your face was still buried in your hands.

He took away your hands from your face, and you looked up to see his worried face. "You shouldn't have to worry about artificial crap like that. You're awesome in everyway. Like the way you defend yourself from jackasses, or how you make extra cookies for the special needs kid that most people like to make fun of. What matters is that you're a pretty fucking amazing person."

You wiped your eyes and chuckled. "Thanks Priestly. You're always so good to me." You gave him a hug, which made him tense up for a up before relaxing and hugging you back.

"And to answer your question, no. I don't think you're ugly at all. You're actually think you're pretty hot." You giggled.

You then began to develop feelings for Priestly. Though you kept it to yourself, everybody else found out about it. Tish teased you about it and made comments on how it was a mystery that anyone could crush on someone as weird as him. Piper, Trucker, and Jen told you that you'd be good together and to go for it. Jen would make the occasional joke about Priestly. Zoe told you that she could sense the same feelings in Priestly as well. Though you were grateful for the support, you weren't confident in what he thought about you enough to do anything about your feelings.

Then there was the whole tampon run. You figured that he would need help and came with him. You kept making jokes when he was panicking on what to get. After you helped him pick one out, you went to grab different items while he stood in line.

You heard people making fun of him, and him retaliating with a speech about having a girlfriend and getting laid. You figured that it'd be the right thing to help him out, and although it was embarrassing for you, it was for Priestly.

You took out the hair tie in your hair, letting your hair fall down your shoulders. You tied your shirt up from the back into a crop top with the hair tie. You walked up to Priestly and gave him a long kiss on the lips. "Hey babe. Got everything?"

He looked at you with a shocked expression, but quickly recovered to get into character with you. "Yeah. I got your tampons for you."

"Aww, thanks babe. But you know I'm not on it anymore this month, right?" You wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed his neck.

"Hell yeah I do. Let's go home." He slapped a 20 on the counter.

"Whatever you say." You grabbed the bag of items and Priestly put and arm around your shoulder.

"Keep the change. Peace." He said before giving them the peace sign that turned into flipping them off. Once you got out of the store the both of you started laughing together. "Well now, we got ourselves an actress."

"It isn't really hard to act that way with you." You said absentmindedly, instantly regretting it. His facial expression changed a bit, and you looked down in embarrassment. Of course he'd feel weird about that. How could he even like you like that? "Um, anyways, we should head back to the grill."

As you and Priestly cleaned up that night, he tapped your shoulder gently from behind. You turned around looked up to the tall nervous looking man standing in front of you. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I just wanted to ask you something important. Just, y'know, don't laugh or anything." You smiled and nodded for him to continue. "Would you, like to, accompany me on a date tonight?" He asked slowly.

"A date?" You asked. He nodded, and your lips went into a wide grin. Holy crap, Zoe was actually a witch, and you loved her for it. "I'd love to."

"Really?" He asked, smiling.

You giggled and nodded, wrapping your arms around him. "Can you give me a ride home so I can get ready?"

He put his hands on his hips and shook his head. "So lazy." He then walked outside and held the door open for you. Once you got to your house, he put his hand over you before you could leave the car. "Wear something nice."

"Like what, my cleanest hoodie?" You teased.

"As much as I'd love to see the hoodie I got you for your birthday, nah. I mean dressing like you're going to a fancy place." You nodded and kissed his cheek, walking up to your apartment number.

You put on a white long sleeved shirt and a flowy peach mini skirt. You'd never really had a reason to put this on before, but wearing it made you feel nervous on what Priestly would think of the outfit. What would he be wearing? Maybe his quilt, and the two of you would both have shirts on. Maybe he did his hair in a different style. All you knew was that you couldn't wait for him to come.

About an hour later you heard a knock at the door and excitedly ran to it. You answered it, and wasn't ready for what you saw. All of Priestly's piercings were out, and the hair color was washed off. He was wearing a nice black blazer with a light blue button up. He looked shy. "Holy shit." You laughed out.

"Would you care to accompany me on this date Miss y/l/n?" He offered his arm.

You hooked your arm into his. "Of course." He smiled and looked down. "You look very nice, by the way."

"You look gorgeous." He opened the car door for you. You smiled at him and gave his cheek a kiss before going in the car.

"You cleaned the car." You looked around.

He shrugged and smiled. "I cleaned the car."

He took you to a nice restaurant, where the two of you talked about anything and everything. Though Priestly tried to remain a civilized gentleman, his true unfiltered jokester self was shining through, and you thought it was the cutest thing ever. Afterwards the you two walked together along the beach, where he put his blazer over your shoulders and listened to you ramble on.

He then took you home and kissed your cheek. "Aren't you just adorable tonight?" You teased.

"Well, do you like me better like this?" He had a nervous smile.

You chuckled and shook your head. "I have no idea what you're talking about. Just because you dressed differently doesn't make you a different person. You're still my Priestly that always puts a smile on my face."

"Your Priestly?" His face was now covered with a wide grin.

"Well, as long as I can be your y/n." He went in for a passionate kiss. Once you pulled back for breath, you asked. "Do you wanna come in?" His facial expression changed to nervous again. "Not for that reason, dumbass. I just don't want this date to be over. I made brownies the other day." He smiled and came in.

You woke up leaning on Priestly as a pillow with the TV still on. You checked the time and saw that your shifts start in ten minutes. In a panic, you shook Priestly awake and told him about the time, hurriedly brushing your teeth and putting on your shoes. "You don't have to worry. I'm always late." He said groggily from the couch.

"Okay, just cause you're cute when your sleepy, doesn't mean we don't still gotta go to work." You said.

"Wait, I have to put on my hair color and get ready."

"Then let's go to your place real quick." You handed him his shoes and pushed him out of the apartment.

As you were driving to his house, he said, "You fell asleep on me." You turned to see his adorable smile.

"You wouldn't let me leave your arms." You smiled back.

"And you're still wearing your clothes from last night."

You looked down, still in the skirt and shirt. "Crap. Can I borrow a shirt?"

"That'd be pretty hot." You both later came in together. Priestly was wearing one of his regular outfits, and you were wearing his Tip me or DIE shirt tucked in under your skirt and a flannel. "We're here!"

Everybody stared at you while you walked behind the counter. "It's not what it looks like." You said before you went into the storage room, with the other three girls excitedly running after you.

After that you two were unbreakable. He would always make sure you were feeling loved, from a simple squeeze on your arm to a passionate kiss. And most of all, he just couldn't help but praise you.

He would try his best to make romantic dates and be a gentleman, but sometimes it was too easy to provoke his playful side. At times he would take you on regular dates, like the movies or a carnival. You would take him on dates as well, from picnics to watching one of his favorite rock bands.

You were the first one to say that you love him. You knew that he was shy when it came to his feelings, so you were okay with saying it first.

It came naturally. The two of you had waited for a while to have sex. It had to be perfect, and he didn't want you to think of your first time with him as a cheap hook up. He wanted it to mean something.

That's why when he took you to a fancy restaurant, and had a walk in the park with Priestly and you acting like children and hopping on the big stones by the walkway. He then took you back to his apartment, where the two of made love.

When you woke up the next morning, you felt him kiss the top of your head before getting off the bed. He told you that he would make you some eggs, and you rolled onto your stomach. You smiled. That's when you said it. "I love you."

He stopped in his tracks, and ran over to the bed, kneeling down. "What?!"

"I love you." You bit your lip to hold in your laugh. You knew he felt the same way, and watching his innocent looking face was almost too adorable. "Do you have something to tell me?" You joked.

He gave you the biggest smile before excitingly jumping onto the bed and smothering you with kisses. "I love you too!" He laughed out between kisses.

After a few months of bliss, Priestly had a plan. He had a plan to watch your favorite movies, to cook you dinner, and to have you feel special. He had a plan, which was in a little black box on his top drawer at home. He had a plan to ask you a question, so you two could go on amazing dates forever.

Huntress 000 Prologue

1925

"Steve you have to let me come. Mom said so" Daphne said, ignoring her brother's glares as she dragged her bike out to the street.

"Don't you have something you'd rather do here?" Steve sighed.

"Yeah, like playin' with dolls or something?" Bucky asked. Daphne turned around, glaring at the boy who her brother decided was going to be his new best friend.

She and Steve always did everything together. Then one day Steve tells her that Bucky was his new best friend and she couldn't be his best friend because she was his sister. Some type of stupid boy rules that she didn't understand.

Bucky didn't seem to like Daphne very much. He spent every moment teasing her, pulling on her pigtails, and laughing when she yelled at him to stop. But she didn't let it get to her. She had tough skin. At least that's what her mom said.

The fact that she didn't let his teasing get to her seemed like it made Bucky only want to tease her more.

"No, James," she said, smiling when she saw how much using his first name bothered him. "I can play with dolls tomorrow. Today I want to ride my bike."

"Well we don't want you to come with us," Steve said, hopping on his own bike. "Why? Because you know I'll be faster than both of you?" she asked, laughing as she started biking away from them.

Steve cursed as he quickly followed behind her. "Cheater!" he shouted, racing after her.

Bucky scoffed as he started after them, knowing he could catch up to both of them easily but decided to let them have their little race.

He didn't really know why he didn't like Daphne. He just didn't. Being around her made his palms sweaty and his heart start beating really fast. Sometimes his stomach would even hurt like butterflies were flying around inside.

And that had to be a bad thing.  It had to mean that he just really, really hated her.

1934

"Steve home?"

Daphne looked up from the book she was reading and nodded, seeing Bucky standing in front of her. "What are you reading?" he asked.

Showing him the cover of the book, he couldn't help but laugh. "The Performance and Design of Direct Current Machines. Of course. Here I thought you'd be reading something like Mary Poppins" he said.

"Yeah, I bet you love Mary Poppins" she laughed, as he sat down next to her on the steps that led up to her apartment door. "But this is actually very interesting."

Taking the book from her, he frowned as he flipped through the pages. "I don't even think this is English," he said.

"Maybe, you're just not smart enough to read it" she scoffed, taking the book from him. Over the past years, things had changed between them. Even if it was unspoken. The teasing didn't stop but it wasn't mean and instead of Bucky teasing Daphne it was usually her and Steve teasing him.

But he didn't mind. Slowly he realized what the sweaty palms were about. The rapid beating of his heart and the butterflies in his stomach. He was growing sweet on his best friend's sister. And he hated himself for it.

He felt like a bad friend. Out of all the girls in the city he could've chosen it just had to be Daphne Rogers. Steve would kill him if he ever knew. He tried his best to hide it. Going on dates with other girls but he'd find himself growing bored only a few minutes in.

He'd make a joke that he knew Daphne would've laughed at or he'd ask a question the girl couldn't answer but he know Daphne would've been able to.

Steve walked out, the metal screen door slamming behind him. "Hey. You ready?" he asked, looking at Bucky.

"Yeah. You coming?" Bucky asked looking at Daphne as he stood up.

"No. I'm gonna finish reading. I still have volumes three and four to get through" she said, gesturing to the stack of books next to her.

Bucky nodded, always in awe of how much information she could soak in and how much of a genius she was. He always joked that she should have her IQ tested. That she could be the next Einstein.

"We'll be back soon," Steve said and she nodded, watching them walk down the steps down the stairs.

Letting out a breath she wasn't even aware she was holding, Daphne sighed rubbing a hand through her hair.

She really needed to get it together. Bucky was her brother's best friend. There was no way she could have a crush on him. Not to mention she knew for sure that he wasn't interested.

1940

"So you'll talk to him for me?"

"Yeah, sure I'll talk to him for you, Dottie."

Like hell, she would. Everyone had a crush on Bucky. And with Daphne being related to his best friend she was the one everyone wanted to talk to when they wanted a date with him.

The first couple of times she did it. But seeing him actually go out with them, laughing and dancing, having a good time. It made her want to throw up. So now, she'd just lie.

Tell him that he said he wasn't interested. It broke her heart to see him talking to other girls she wasn't gonna help him do that.

Bucky didn't have it much easier. Guys were coming up to him all the time. Asking all sorts of questions about her. Whether or not she was she was seeing someone, if he thought they had a chance.

The worst was when their questions were anything but innocent. If he ever got a piece of her. If that's the only reason he hung around Steve. It made him sick, hearing what they'd have to say about her.

He got into one too many fights about it. Fights that she never approved of. Especially when she was certain she could take care of herself.

Walking down the street one day and being cornered by a man who just couldn't take no for an answer was how Bucky had found himself in his most recent fight. He had been walking home and snapped when he saw the uncomfortable look on her face and the man's hand, resting on her waist.

"You're an idiot," Daphne said, dipping at the cut on his eyebrow. It was the first thing she said to him after bringing him back to her apartment, forcing him to sit on the toilet so she could fix him up.

"That's a weird way of saying thank you" he scoffed, wincing as the antiseptic stung. "I didn't need you to step in for me. I had everything under control" she said.

"Yeah, it definitely looked like it" he mumbled.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Daphne asked, mildly offended as she tossed the rag she was using down at him.

"Nothing, I just-"

"Daph? You home?" Steve shouted as he walked out. Glaring down at Bucky she walked out, greeting Steve in the living room as she walked to her room.

"You're friends in the bathroom. He was being a complete idiot" she said, before slamming the door to her room closed. Steve, confused turned toward Bucky who walked out of the bathroom, holding the rag to his head.

"What happened to you?" Steve asked. "Nothing" Bucky sighed, plopping down on the sofa, his head throbbing as he did. "Need an ice pack?" Steve asked.

"Yeah."

─── · 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

It had been a few hours of Daphne locking herself in her room before she finally walked out, the apartment dark. Steve's door was closed and he was probably asleep. Making her way to the kitchen she looked down and rolled her eyes seeing Bucky asleep on the couch.

She stared at him for a moment before cursing to himself, not being able to just leave him there. Walking back into her room she grabbed a blanket before bringing it back out, draping it over him.

"What are you doing?" he asked, his voice groggy as he looked up at her in the dark. "Making sure you don't freeze to death," she said, not looking up at him but still fixing the blanket over him.

"It's not that cold," he said, still staring at her. "I'll take it back then," she said, thinking he didn't want her help before he grabbed her wrist.

"I didn't mean it like that," he said, now whispering so he didn't wake up Steve. Daphne didn't say anything, only nodding as was about to leave him but he didn't loosen his grip on her wrist.

"You're mad at me," he said.

"I'm not mad at you," she said.

"Yeah, you are. I can feel it" he told her.

"I'm not mad. I'm just...you don't need to come to my rescue all the time. I'm not helpless" she said.

"I don't think you're helpless," he said, sitting up. "Yes, you do. You don't think I can stand up for myself" she said.

"That's not true. I do think you can stick up for yourself. But just because you can doesn't mean you should" he said.

"How did you even know I needed help? What if I wanted to talk to him?" she asked, sitting next to him, taking some of the blanket as he offered it to her.

"Did you?" he asked.

"No. But that's not the point. What if I did?" she asked.

"What if I didn't want you to talk to him?" Bucky asked. "Since when do you care who I talk to?" Daphne asked.

"Since you stopped telling me which ones of your friends were interested in me," he said, smirking at her as she shook her head.

"That's different?" she told him.

"How is that different?" he asked. "Because Dottie isn't your type," she said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Dottie?"

"Cooper."

"Dottie Cooper? I didn't know about her. I was talking about Margaret" he said. "No Margaret was three weeks ago. I didn't tell you about her because she's got the attention span of a goldfish" she said, a small smile on her face when he laughed.

"Right. And what's wrong with Dottie Cooper?" he asked. Daphne sighed as she shook her head.

"Nothing. I guess" she mumbled. Bucky looked down at her confused. "If nothing's wrong with her why didn't you tell me?" he asked.

Daphne just shrugged, playing with the frayed edges of the blanket. "Daph, come on. You've always got something to say. Don't go quiet on me now" he said, gently nudging her arm.

"Because nothing's wrong with her. You might actually like her" she said.

"You didn't tell me about her because you think I might actually like her?" Bucky asked trying to make sense of what she was saying.

Shaking her head, Daphne stood up, her throat suddenly dry and she really needed some water.

"Woah, hey. What does that mean?" he asked, following her into the kitchen. "Nothing. Bucky, just drop it" she said, filling up a glass with water.

"You know for the smartest person I've ever met you're not really making a lot of sense right now," he said.

"Bucky. Drop it" she said.

Bucky sighed as he leaned against the countertop.

"Matthew Henderson wants to ask you out," he told her.

"What?

"I told him you were seeing someone," he said.

"Why would you tell him that?" she asked. Matthew Henderson was cute. And he wasn't a complete idiot. She couldn't have Bucky and Matthew might not have been too bad of a backup.

"Same reason you didn't tell me about Dottie. You might've actually liked him. And seeing you with him might've actually killed me" he said.

"I didn't say that last part," she said, shaking her head. "I just guessed," he said, taking what was probably the biggest leap of faith in his life as he pressed a hand to her waist.

"Bucky" she mumbled, not really knowing what to say but she knew she didn't want him to let go of her.

"I think I have someone better for you to go out with," he said, his voice still low and quiet as he stepped closer to her.

"We can't" she whispered, thinking of her brother who'd kill them both.

"Daphne," he said, cradling her head in his hands and forcing her to look up at him. "Daph, please. Please just let me kiss you."

Daphne nodded, not trusting her own voice as their lips met, standing in the darkness of her kitchen, her hands resting on his cheeks.

The butterflies were back again. And his heart was beating out of his chest. But it wasn't a bad thing. It just meant that he really, really loved her.

Fury Meets Force

Javi Garcia x Male Reader

A/N: We need more Power Rangers x male readers on here. That’s all I have to say.

Fury Meets Force

“Uh, are you sure Zayto and I should interview for this reporting job?” Y/N asked hesitantly as he, Zayto, Amelia, and Ollie walked into the busy building of Buzz Blast.

“I agree with Y/N. I only have experience fighting monsters,” Zayto said.

“Ditto,” Y/N said.

“Call that tackling tough tasks,” Amelia countered.

“And piloting a giant Zord.”

“You have flashy style.”

“And taking care of Sporix Beasts.”

“Add that to fighting Orgs and Putrids,” Y/N said.

“And umm, you both recycle. Y/N is an animal lover just like his dad and he plays a mean game of pool like his father and Zayto has spirit,” Amelia said. She turned and grinned at them. “See?”

“Okay, gotcha,” Zayto smiled back. “Cool, cool, coolio.” He did finger guns. Y/N, Amelia, and Ollie frowned at that.

“I don’t know where you learned that, but your interview is this way,” Amelia said, pointing to the stairs as Zayto followed her.

Y/N glanced at Ollie. “You taught him that, didn’t you?”

Ollie smiled sheepishly. “Don’t tell Amelia I taught him that.” They followed the others up the stairs.

Y/N, Ollie, and Amelia waited for Zayto to finish his interview with Ms. Jane Fairview, the editor-in-chief at Buzz Blast. Y/N already conducted his interview first and now was waiting patiently for his friend to finish his.

The sound of a harmonica caught Y/N’s attention as a young guy around his age was playing on the small instrument. He had dark brown hair with lighter highlights mixed in. He wore a black leather jacket and boots with ripped jeans and a black messenger bag. He had an earring on his left ear and a ring on his right thumb. He was really cute.

As if sensing his thoughts. Harmonica–guy turned to Y/N and winked as he continued to play. Y/N felt heat creep up on his neck at that wink. Not that he had a problem with looking at other guys. He just gets really flustered sometimes. Especially around cute guys.

“Umm, cool harmonica,” Amelia said. “Catchy tune.” The guy in the leather jacket gave her a shy smile.

“Hey, are you going for the reporter's job?” Ollie asked him.

“Yeah, Jane told me to wait,” Harmonica–guy said. “I’m trying to earn money so I can buy a keytar.”

Amelia and Ollie frown at that. Having never heard of a keytar before.

“It’s like a keyboard that you can play, like a guitar,” Y/N mumbled.

“Exactly!” Harmonica–guy cries. “You know your instruments?”

“Sort of,” Y/N admitted. “My father is really big on music. He likes to play the flute.”

“Cool,” Harmonica–guy smiles. “They're not cheap, so fingers crossed.”

The door to Ms. Fairview’s office opens up as she and Zayto step out. She has three green binders in her hands. “Thanks for coming in. Y/N, Zayto, and Javi,” Jane Fairview says. “As a final test, I’m giving you each an assignment. Whoever does better gets the job. Cool?”

“Ah, yes. Cool, cool, coolio,” Zayto says again. Everyone is silent as they look at Zayto. “Umm… My friend Ollie taught me that.” He clears his throat. “Amelia, you didn’t hear that.”

Amelia looks at Ollie. “Hmm.”

Ollie smiles nervously.

“Javi, you’ll do a story on the Nephrite Orb. It’s a gemstone said to have mystical powers,” Ms. Fairview says as she hands him a folder. “Go check it out at the museum.”

Y/N smiled. So, Harmonica–guy was named ‘Javi.’

“Cool. Thanks,” Javi said as he left.

Ms. Fairview turned to Zayto. “The state’s top teen athlete trains at Pine Ridge High. Go find out what makes her tick. I wanna know her coach, her routine, her name.”

“Her name is Izzy Garcia,” Zayto said as he read the file on her.

“Wow. You’re fast, kid. Oh, right? It’s in the file,” Ms. Fairview jokes. “Ok. Good luck.”

She looks at Y/N. “There’s a new exhibit at the museum about the ancient warriors from the fairytale story of Animarium that protected it 3000 years ago. I want you to tell me all that you can about this new exhibit. Okay?”

“Yeah, sure,” Y/N smiled.

Ollie and Amelia went with Zayto to the school while Y/N checked out the new exhibit at the museum. He knows the story of the ancient warriors. His father was the sixth member of their group before he put on the wolf mask. He would be sure to add the part about a sixth warrior, minus turning evil and being entombed for all eternity in his article.

He talked to different curators and asked about the artifacts and how their presence could have an impact on the modern world. Once Y/N got all the interviews he need; he decided to look around the museum. Looking at different weapons that were foam, a voice behind him said. “Are you following me?” Y/N turned to see Javi smirking at him.

Y/N blushed a bit. “No, I'm not following you. Ms. Fairview also gave me a story here at the museum.”

“Oh, about what?”

“About the six ancient warriors who protected Animarium,” Y/N said.

“Six? I thought there were only five,” Javi said.

“Nope, there are six.”

“Cool.”

“So, how’s your story going?” Y/N asked.

“It’s going great. I got a professor to talk about the Nephrite Orb,” Javi said.

“That’s awesome.”

“Yeah, it is.”

Javi extends a hand out. “I’m Javi, by the way. Javi Garcia.”

Y/N smiles and shakes his hand. “Y/N. Y/N Evans Baliton.”

They hold hands longer than normal before Y/N pulls back and blushes again. Before they can continue their conversation further, Mucus, Boomtower, and Draknarok teleport into the museum as people panic and scream as they run out of the museum. “And scream!”

“Sporix Beasts!”

“Now, where’s that orb?” Mucus asks as they look around.

Y/N wants to morph and stop them, but Javi is right there, so he can’t. “Come on, Y/N.” Javi grabs Y/N’s hand as they hide somewhere next to the orb.

“It’s mine. All mine!” Boomtower says.

“And also mine,” Mucus says as she grabs the case with the orb inside.

“Keep up, beast.”

“My name is Draknarok!”

“Who cares?”

Y/N looks at Javi. “Javi, you call the Power Rangers hotline. I’ll follow them and see where they’re going.”

“No, Y/N, it’s too dangerous to follow those beasts. You could get hurt,” Javi protested.

“I can protect myself. Promise,” Y/N winks as he runs after the Sporix Beasts before Javi can stop him.

Javi sighed as he dialed the phone and put it to his ear. “Power Rangers hotline? There’s Sporix Beasts at the museum.”

Y/N made sure there was no one around as he brought out his dad’s Growl Phone. He pressed the center button of the morpher as he brought it to his ear and shouted out: “Wild Access! HA!” His clothes shifted to his ranger costume as the lion visor roared as it became a solid lion-shaped helmet around Y/N’s head.

“Ooh! I don’t know what Nephrite is, but I know power when it’s in my hand,” Boomtower said.

There’s a car that parks right in front of them and comes to a halt. It has ‘Pine Ridge Park Warren’ on the passenger side. “Huh? What’s this?” A man gets out as he glares at the monsters. “That belongs to the people of Pine Ridge. Put it down!”

“How about I put you down?” Boomtower asks as his sword flashes purple as he slams it down and a wave of purple energy rushes at the Warren.

“Look out!” Y/N cries as he grabs the man and jumps as high as he can as they escape the attack. The man was okay, but fainted from shock. Y/N glares underneath his helmet. “Give the orb back now and walk away while you still can,” Y/N demands.

“I’d listen to him if I were you!”

"Ugh, what’s happening now?” The Sporix Beasts and Y/N turn to see Zayto, Amelia, and Ollie.

“He’s got the Nephrite Orb from Javi’s assignment,” Amelia said.

“If Void Knight wants it, then we gotta stop him,” Ollie agrees.

“Those are the other Rangers,” Mucus whispers to Boomtower.

“Those pipsqueaks? Impossible!”

“Don’t believe it? See for yourself,” Zayto says.

“Yeah, you show them you guys!” Y/N says.

“It’s morphin’ time!” They switched from their communicators to their morphers as they held out their keys to activate them. “Dino Fury Key activate! Link to morphin’ grid” They spin their morphers as they begin to transform into the Dino Fury red, blue, and pink rangers.

“Dino Fury power!”

“I’ll show you power,” Boomtower draws his sword as he and Draknarok charged at the others. Y/N jumps in the mix as he draws his Crystal Saber. Javi runs down the stairs trying to find Y/N, when he sees the Power Rangers fighting the Sporix Beasts. As he watches them, he sees an unconscious man on the grass.

“Oh, no.”

“I’m spitting’ fire!” Draknarok shoots out a purple flame as Y/N and Zayto roll to the side and the attack hits Mucus instead.

“Think this robot body is tough now? With the orb, I’ll be invincible!” Boomtower said.

“Invincible? That’s not good,” Javi whispers.

“Not so fast.” Y/N jumps into the air and switches weapons from a saber to a lion blaster as he blasts the monster as it drops the orb in its hand. “No! My orb!” Draknarok uses his tail and knocks the other Rangers down to the ground. “Good job. What's your name. Now I’ll just grab my—”

“Gravi ball Ha!” Zayto wraps a chain around the two monsters, keeping them from moving. Javi sees an opportunity as he takes the orb from the ground and gets in the car and drives off with it.

“Hey! We stole that first!” Mucus cries.

“Mucus, you’re our only hope. Stop that car!” Boomtower commands. The Sporix Beast runs after the car as she jumps at it and turns into green goo and sticks to the car (That’s actually what happened).

“I’m going after them,” Y/N tells Zayto and the others.

“Good luck. We can handle things here.”

“Wild Force Rider!” Y/N summons the flying falcon shaped motorcycle as he goes after Javi.

….

Javi stops the car in front of a ‘keep out’ fence sign. This was his secret spot that he went to practice his music, since his dad didn’t approve of it. He gets out of the car and holds the orb tightly in his arms as he hops the wooden fence. He walks down the beaten path towards the trees and towards his special spot. The green goo on the side of the car melts as it reforms to reveal Mucus. “My plan worked!” She cries out as she notices Javi walking with the orb. “Does he still have the orb? Yes! Better tell my buddies!” She teleports in a flash of purple light.

Javi is walking down the path, carefully holding the Nephrite Orb as Draknarok jumps in front of him, causing him to fall down in surprise. “Well, what do you know?” Javi turns to run the other way, but Boomtower blocks his path. “Mucus was right. You better give me the orb, otherwise, we’ll take it.” They began to close in on Javi as his eyes darted nervously back and forth.

“Actually, you won’t be taking anything from anybody!” Y/N flew by on his motorcycle as he blasted Boomtower and Draknarok. Y/N jumped down in front of Javi protectively. Y/N looked at him. “You alright?”

Javi nodded his head. “Yeah, just fine.”

“We’re not afraid of a little kitty cat like you,” Boomtower boasted.

“No? How about a wolf?”

Y/N switched morphers to his father’s Lunar Caller. He pressed the center button. “Wild Access! HA!” His red ranger costume melted off as it was replaced by a silver and navy blue suit. His visor howled as it became a solid wolf-shaped helmet around Y/N’s head.

“Howling wolf!” Y/N did his father’s pose as he pulled out his Luner Cue from its holster. “Lunar Cue, Saber Mode!”

“Excellent. Now for some fun.” Y/N and Boomtower exchanged blows as their weapons battled back and forth. While he was distracted, Draknarok closed in on Javi. “It’s easy, kid. Just hand over the orb or I’ll do this the fun and painful way.”

“Stay away from him!” Y/N says. He can’t help Javi without letting up and letting Boomtower get the upper hand. A green javelin sailed through the air and hit Draknarok as he stumbled back in surprise. “Hey, who dares?” The Rangers and Javi’s sister run to him as Javi runs to them.

“Javi!”

“Izzy!” Javi hugs his sister as the Rangers run to aid Y/N. “Amazing throw!”

“Ready for round 2?” Zayto asks. Y/N and Boomtower finally separate from each other as Y/N joins his friends.

“Bring it,” Boomtower says as the Rangers charge the monsters. The Dino Fury Rangers triple team Boomtower as Y/N fights Draknarok.

“We gotta keep this orb safe. Come on!” Javi grabs his sister’s hand and leads her to a nearby tree as they watch the Rangers fight the Sporix Beasts.

“Get off my back!” Draknarok throws Y/N off of him as the Lunar Ranger hits the ground on his back. Boomtower slashes Zayto, Amelia, and Ollie with his sword, as they go sprawling to the ground. “Tonight’s menu roast Ranger. Yum, yum, yum!” Boomtower and Draknarok close in as the sound of a harmonica is played and Draknarok grabs his head in pain.

“Aargh! My ears!”

“What is that infernal ruckus?”

Y/N smiles underneath his head. Good job, Javi.

“Please stop.” Y/N and the others get back up.

“Did someone lose a paperweight?” Izzy asks.

“Huh? Yeah. That thing will make me invincible,” Boomtower says.

The orb glows around Izzy as she stares at it in shock. “Wow. It really does feel powerful.”

“Give it to me!”

Javi takes the orb from his sister and smirks at the Sporix Beasts. "Okay, but I can be a bit clumsy, and… uh-oh. Thing’s slippery.” Javi slams the orb onto a nearby rock, smashing it to pieces as a green light of energy engulfs him and his sister. It’s blinding. Once the light has subsided, the siblings walk towards the rock and pick up two items that were trapped inside the orb.

“What are these?” Javi asks as he looks it over.

“They’re Dino keys!” Y/N says.

“I thought those were lost,” Zayto says.

The objects hum with energy as they zap Javi and Izzy with their power. “Whoa. What’s happening?” Izzy is bathed in a green light, while Javi is surrounded by black energy. It allows them to morph into Power Rangers.

“They morphed?”

“Are you…? Am I…? Are we the…?”

“The Green and Black Rangers?” Y/N says. “Yup.”

“Sweet!” Amelia says.

“This is a dream come true,” Izzy said.

“I know, right?” Javi asks.

“Hold that though.” Izzy rips the skirt off her suit. “Skirts aren’t really my thing.”

“Hey! That orb was meant to be my thing,” Boomtower says. “You’re going to pay.” He snaps his fingers. “Hengemen!” A purple portal opens up as foot soldiers appear. They charge forward as the Rangers battle them. Javi and Izzy are totally in sync during their first fight as Rangers. Y/N’s honestly impressed by their teamwork.

“Javi, catch!” Izzy throws her saber as Javi catches it and uses both to fight. “We’re rocking it, sis!”

Izzy grabs her green javelin. “I’ve trained for this. Sort of.” She battles minions left and right as she and her brother are back to back. “You good?”

“Yup.”

“That’s some brother-sister synergy right there,” Zayto says.

Javi throws Izzy’s sword towards her as uses her javelin to spin it around and spend it at Boomtower, knocking his sword out of his hands. “Would you stop doing that!”

Javi jumps over and grabs Draknarok’s tail and slams him against a tree as Izzy throws her javelin high into the tree and uses Boomtower as a step stool to get up there and sit on it.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Boomtower asks her.

“Oh, just hangin.” Izzy falls backwards and grabs her sword and javelin in mid fall and slashes Boomtower with both.

“I don’t believe this!” Boomtower cries out.

“Wow! I was thinking that too. You and I are really vibing, dude,” Izzy says.

“Vibing? With a teenager? No thanks!” Boomtower disappears, leaving the Rangers to only deal with Draknarok. “Big scary monster ran away. You love to see it.” The Rangers surround Draknarok as he warns. You know what happens if a Sporix Beast fights long enough? Spoiler alert!” He says. We grow!” Draknarok growls as he grows to a massive size.

“It’s not like he was gonna shrink,” Javi said.

Draknarok roars loudly as he towers over everything. “Ooh! Is it Zord time?” Izzy asks Zayto.

“You’re a quick learner.”

“Yes!”

“Solon, deploy the T-Rex Champion, Tricera Blade and Ankylo Hammer Zords,” Zayto says into his communicator. The respective Dino Fury Zords is summoned as Javi looks at Y/N. “What about you? Where’s your Zord at?”

“Right here.” Y/N pulls out three Animal Crystals and switches his Lunar Cue from Saber to Breaker Mode. He swings his Lunar Cue horizontally, generating a massive green energy pool table and shoots the Wolf, the Hammerhead, and the Alligator off of it and into the sky. “Wild Zords, descend!” All three of Y/N’s father’s Zords are summoned together as they head towards the Sporix Beast. “Wild Zords, combined!”

The three Zords combine into one massive Megazord and join the Dino Fury Megazord as they fought and destroyed Draknarok together. The defeated monster shrunk as Zayto saw a purple light coming towards them. “The Sporix.” He jumped into the air and caught it. “One more for us; one fewer for Void Knight.” They all teleported away as Void Knight angrily stated. “Six Rangers! And still not enough to stop me!”

….

Back at the Dinohenge, a hidden underground chamber Y/N, Zayto, Amelia, and Ollie showed Javi and Izzy around.

“Whoa.”

“Big superhero mood.”

“Welcome to our humble base,” Zayto said.

Javi and Izzy demorph back to normal and so did Y/N, Zayto, Amelia and Ollie.

“And welcome to the team.” Y/N smiles.

“Y/N? You’re a Ranger? And you three as well?” Javi asked, shocked.

“I had no idea,” Izzy said.

“We had no idea that the Tiger and Stego Dino Keys survived.”

“I wonder what else is out there, waiting to be discovered.”

“Maybe a couple of Zords for us?”

“Possibly. You humans sure do love Zords,” Zayto says. “And here’s another surprise. Hey, Solon!”

The half dinosaur, half cyborg walked into the room, much to Javi and Izzy’s surprise. “Welcome, friends. You look hungry. Can I get you a snack?”

“You’re a–”

“Half cyborg, half dinosaur,” Solon says. “Strange I know. Took some adjusting for me too. But that’s nothing. Zayto’s a knight from the Planet Rafkon.” Zayto shows his antennas and smiles.

“So you are a knight,” Izzy says. “This is the coolest day of my life.” She looks at her brother. “Javi, I’m glad you broke that orb.”

Javi’s smile disappears at the mention of the orb. “Oh, no! The orb! It’s history. And so is the deadline for our Buzzblast stories.” He looks at Y/N and Zayto. “There’s no way Jane will give any of us the job now.” Javi looks down. “I need to find a new way to pay for that keytar.”

“There are plenty of jobs around,” Izzy said. “You want 10 bucks to clean my room?”

They all laugh at that. Later on, they all head to Buzz Blast to tell Jane that they couldn’t complete their stories. “Zayto, Javi, Y/N, there you are.”

“I’m afraid we couldn’t finish those stories for you,” Zayto says.

“I’m sorry I let you down, Jane,” Javi apologizes. “Please, let me explain.”

“There’s no need. What you did at the museum today, jumping in to protect the orb, it showed guts and dedication. Two things every great reporter needs. It would be a privilege to have someone as brave and resourceful as you on our team.” She holds out her hand. “Welcome to BuzzBlast.”

Javi laughs as he shakes her hand. “Thanks. I really appreciate it.”

Jane Fairview looks at Y/N and Zayto. “Close. But no chihuahua.”

Y/N frowns at her choice of words.

“Well, congrats. You’re the right man for the job,” Zayto says.

“Yes, he is,” Jane Fairview says. “Now, Javi. For your first story, you gotta find the best hamburger in Pine Ridge.”

“Actually, Ms. Fairview, I have a confession to make,” Javi stops her.

“Oh, and what’s that?”

“If it weren’t for Y/N telling me to call the Power Rangers' hotline. Those Sporix Beasts would have gotten away with the Nephrite Orb. He’s the one that deserves the job, not me,” Javi said.

“What? No, Javi, you deserve this job. You protected the orb when no one else did. You’re amazing.” After he said that, the Wildforce Ranger blushed. Izzy and Amelia looked at each other with a knowing smirk on their faces.

“But Y/N–”

“–Hold on a minute,” Jane Fairview says. “Since you were so honest, Javi. I can maybe squeeze Y/N in as well.”

“Really? That’s great!”

“What do you say, Y/N?” Jane Fairview asked him.

“I’d say thank you so much!” Y/N cried.

After Ms. Fairview left, Javi pulled Y/N to the side. “So… I was thinking I might need some help on my first story. Care to help me out?”

Y/N smiled, gently. “What, like a date?”

Javi smiled back. “Yeah, like a date.”

“I’d love to.”

Okay but have you considered Stiles’ dad getting shot earlyish in canon, he needs pretty extensive surgery, they don’t know if he’s going to live and Stiles is sitting there alone, shaking apart in the waiting room.

Derek sits down next to him without a word, listens in to the surgery, and calmly tells Stiles exactly what’s going on. He tells Stiles exactly what the doctors are saying to eachother, even when it’s looking bad, stops Stiles from pulling his hair out and stays with him for hours through the whole thing. During a pause, Stiles asks why he’s doing this, and Derek tells him I know what it’s like, not being sure if you’ll have any family left. And that’s the moment Stiles starts to see Derek for who he really is.

(Derek gets to tell him that his dad is going to be okay, lets Stiles collapse into him with relief, feels Stiles’ thank you thank you thank you against the skin of his neck. Derek says it’s the doctors you should be thanking, and Stiles is quiet for a moment before he whispers yeah, but thank you for not making me do this alone.)

Last Shift | Part one | Evan “Buck” Buckley

Summary: It’s (Y/n)’s last shift before maternity leave when she’s sent to pick up supplies at a medical store, only to be caught in a robbery. Buck, growing frantic after not hearing from her, is called to the scene with the 118 team, unaware she’s among the injured.

TW: gun violence, medical trauma, seizure, hostage situation

9-1-1 Masterlist

Last Shift | Part One | Evan “Buck” Buckley

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

The smell of bacon and eggs filled the small apartment of Buck and (Y/n) as Buck stood at the stove, waiting for the bacon to get crispy. The sun filtered through the kitchen window, casting a warm glow over the countertops. He was in his element, cooking for (Y/n) before their shifts, stealing and enjoying the little moments of peace before the chaos of the day.

But the sound of the Bacon sizzling in the pan was interrupted by a thump, followed by a grunt and some muffled cursing.

Buck paused for a second, holding the spatula in his hand, hovering over the pan. He furrowed his brows, listening to the sounds that came from deeper in the apartment.

Another grunt sounded through the apartment, then a frustrated sigh and a very muttered “Oh, come on.”

He raised a brow, as he listened to the struggling (Y/n) and decided to turn off the burner. "(Y/n)?" he called as he made his way through the hall, but he didn’t receive a response from her. That was suspicious.

He made his way toward the bedroom, as he approached, he heard more and more struggling sounds, combined with some curse words, he was pretty sure she was talking to herself. The sound of something softly hitting the floor filled the air now.

When he finally managed to reach the bedroom, he leaned with his shoulder against the doorway, crossing his arms as he took in the scene before him. (Y/n) who was very pregnant and stubborn, was sitting on the edge of the bed, trying to put on her shoes. And failing.

Her belly made it nearly impossible to bend forward enough to tie them, she was doing this sort of awkward side-lean, foot propped up, fingers barely brushing the laces of her lightweight training shoes. Every time she got close to tying them, her bump got in the way.

Buck bit his lip to keep from laughing.

Her nose scrunched in determination. She let out another soft grunt, wiggling her fingers toward the laces like that would somehow bring them closer. Her tongue peeked out at the corner of her mouth, her “concentration face.”

God, he thought she was adorable.

She huffed again, dropping her foot with an annoyed sigh. “Stupid shoes.” she said defeated as she let out a very dramatic sigh and flopped onto her back, arms spread out in defeat. And that was the moment when Buck finally broke.

"You know," he finally spoke, his voice filled with amusement, "they say admitting you need help is the first step." he said. Making (Y/n) let out a soft yelp in surprise, her head snapping up to see him standing there with a very amused smirk. “How long have you been standing there?!” she asked him.

He grinned. "Long enough to witness the greatest battle between a woman and her sneakers." he said. She groaned, covering her face with her hands as she remained lying with her back on the bed. “This is so embarrassing.” she whined.

Buck chuckled, pushing himself off the doorframe and making his way over. He knelt in front of her, gently nudging her knee. "Alright, Superwoman, let me help before you hurt yourself." he said as he held out his hands to her, trying to help her sit back up.

She laid her hands in his as he helped her sit back up again. Her cheeks flushed because of embarrassment. She grumbled something under her breath but lifted her foot, and stared at Buck who kneeled in front of her. With practiced ease, he took her foot in his hands, slipping the shoe on properly and tying the laces, even double-knotting them because he knew she hated when they came undone.

"I could’ve done it, you know." she broke the small silence.

"Mmhmm." He glanced up at her with a teasing grin. "You sure you don’t wanna try again? Looked like you were real close." he asked her as he stopped mid-action. She playfully nudged his shoulder with her other socked foot, making him laugh.

Once he was done, he looked up at her with a soft smile, pressing a gentle kiss to the inside of her knee. "There. Ready for battle, soldier." he said, as he patted his hand on her knee, rubbing his thumb softly over her knee.

(Y/n) sighed dramatically. "You're never gonna let me live this down, are you?" she asked him with puppy eyes, with a spark of hope that he might just forget about this. Buck grinned. "Not a chance."

He stood up again, holding out his hands once more, silently telling her to put her hands into his again. She placed her hands into his, and he pulled her to her feet with ease. “Now come on, let’s get you some breakfast before you start challenging your jacket next.”

She rolled her eyes but smiled, giving him a soft, playful push. Buck chuckled, grabbing her hand and pressing a kiss to her knuckles before resting it against her belly for a moment. “Alright, come on, trouble. Let’s feed you and the little bean before you start getting cranky.” he then said.

(Y/n) scoffed. “I do not get cranky.” she said. Buck raised an eyebrow. “Oh, really? Should I remind you about the great pickle incident of last week?” he asked. She gasped, lightly smacking his arm. “That was one time! And you ate the last one on purpose!”

He just grinned, slipping an arm around her waist as he guided her toward the kitchen. “Mmhmm. Come on, let’s go.”

Buck guided (Y/n) into the kitchen, his arm still wrapped around her waist as he helped her lower herself into a chair. She sighed dramatically, resting a hand on her belly as she got comfortable.

"You're such a good house husband," she teased as she watched him move back to the stove. Buck scoffed, turning over the last pieces of bacon. "House husband? Excuse you, I also save lives for a living." he said.

(Y/n) smirked at his reaction. "Mmm, sure, but I think cooking me breakfast is way more heroic." she said dreamy. He turned, with the spatula in his hand, raising an eyebrow. "Oh yeah? So running into burning buildings is nothing compared to making you eggs?"

She grinned. "Absolutely." Buck just shook his head with a laugh, grabbing a plate and loading it up with eggs and bacon. He set it in front of her before sitting down with his own.

(Y/n) didn’t waste any time. She picked up a piece of bacon, took a bite, and instantly moaned. "Oh my God." She covered her mouth, eyes closing as she chewed. "Buck, this is so good." she said. Buck grinned at her reaction, clearly pleased with himself. "Told you I was the full package, firefighter, chef, soon-to-be baby whisperer."

Before she could respond, she suddenly felt a little thump against her belly. (Y/n) stilled, placing her hand over the spot, waiting. Another tiny kick. She smiled softly, glancing over at Buck. “You like Daddy’s cooking, huh?” she said as she switched looks between Buck and back to her belly.

Buck immediately dropped his fork and turned to her, eyes lighting up like Christmas. “Wait, really?” he asked. She nodded with a smile on her face. She grabbed his hand and placed it against her belly. They waited in silence. Then a little nudge, right against his palm.

Buck let out a breathless laugh. "Whoa." He rubbed slow circles over her bump, grinning. "Hey there, little bean. You're already taking after your mom, huh? Bossing me around before you're even born." he said as he glanced up at (Y/n).

(Y/n) chuckled at his words, rolling her eyes. “You're just lucky we both love food.”

They went back to eating, sharing little smiles and soft touches. But after a few minutes of silence, (Y/n) caught Buck staring at her, she raised an eyebrow. "What?"

Buck shrugged, chewing a piece of bacon. "Nothing."

(Y/n) narrowed her eyes. "Buck." she said with this warning tone, telling him she knew he was holding something back. His lips twitched, but then he sighed, setting his fork down. "I don't know… I just like this."

She softened, tilting her head. "Like what?" she asked as she took another bite of her food. He gestured between them. "You. Me. Breakfast. Our little bean kicking in there…" he placed a hand on her belly again, smiling. "It's nice." He said as he brushed his thumb up and down over her belly.

(Y/n) exhaled softly, lacing her fingers with his. "Yeah… it is." She said as she looked down to her belly, both of their hands resting on it, and glanced back to Buck.

They stayed like that for a moment, just soaking in the quiet, before Buck glanced at the clock and sighed. "Alright, we should probably get going. Don't want you being late on your last shift." he said as he stood up from his chair.

(Y/n) groaned, as she looked at the clock for a second. "Ugh, fine." she whined as she sent the clock an annoyed look, while in the meantime Buck collected the dishes and placed them in the sink. They’d deal with that later.

She pushed her chair back and went to stand up, but Buck was already there, helping her up like the world's most attentive boyfriend. She gave him a look. “You do know I can still walk, right?” she asked him as he helped her on her feet.

Buck smirked, his hands resting on her hips. “Yeah, but you waddle now. It’s cuter.” He said as he quickly pressed a kiss onto the top of her head.

(Y/n) gasped, smacking his arm. “I do not waddle!” she said, as she watched Buck laughing, dodging another playful swat as he grabbed their jackets. “Come on, Waddles, let’s go.” He said as he held her jacket open for her.

“Buck!”

______

The bright led lights of the hospital cast a cool glow over the bustling hallways as (Y/n) navigated through the chaos, phone pressed between her shoulder and ear. Her free hand instinctively rested on her belly as she weaved around gurneys, dodged IV stands, and nodded politely at fellow nurses who rushed past her.

Her mind was overwhelmed, patients needing care, interns looking for guidance, the dull ache in her lower back from standing too long. But for just a moment, she wanted an escape from reality. And there was only one person who could give her that.

“Hey, baby,” Buck’s familiar voice filtered through the phone, sending a small wave of comfort through her. “How’s my favorite nurse doing?” he asked as he pressed his phone to his ear while he sat on the lip of the open ambulance.

(Y/n) sighed, glancing at the packed nurses’ station as she passed by. “Exhausted, overworked, and in desperate need of a nap. So, you know, the usual.” She answered his question as she let out a small laugh.

She could hear the smirk in his voice. “Sounds like a slow day.” he said, making her lips twitch on the other side of the line. “And you? You sound a little out of breath. What are you doing?” She asked.

There was some shuffling on his end before he answered. “Oh, nothing crazy. Just pulled a guy out of a burning apartment.” he answered as he scanned the scene around him.

Part of his crew were running around the scene. The fire was out, but they were wrapping up things on the scene before returning to the firehouse.

She stopped abruptly in her tracks as she realized what he just told her. “Buck.” She sighed, his name left her lips like a warning, as her heart picked up speed. “I’m fine,” he cut in before she could start a discussion. “Hen already checked me over, just a little smoke inhalation, nothing serious.” he reassured her. He could still feel the dry ashes in his lungs.

(Y/n) exhaled slowly, pressing a hand to her forehead. She placed her phone between her shoulder and her ear as she placed her other hand on her stomach. “You stress me out, you know that?” she told him as she felt the mini Evan in her belly kicking.

“Good thing you love me,” he teased, and just like that, the tension between them melted away. She smiled softly, grabbing her phone in her hand again as she finally reached the breakroom and leaned against the doorframe. “I… actually don’t know why I called. I guess I just wanted to hear your voice,” she admitted, her voice quieter now, the exhaustion finally creeping in.

There was a pause on his end before he replied, softer this time. “Yeah? That’s funny, ‘cause I was hoping to hear yours, too.” he said, (Y/n) could hear he was smiling at her words. For a moment, everything else faded away around her. The beeping monitors, the distant sound of a patient calling for a nurse, the hurried footsteps. It was just them, his voice as clear as day. As if he was standing right next to her.

(Y/n) let her eyes flutter shut for a second, soaking in his presence through the phone. She let out a sigh, as she could hear Buck’s breathing through the statics of the phone. “Well, don’t get too used to it. You know the deal. I’ll call you on my break.” she said, biting her lip to suppress the smile that was appearing on her face.

“Ugh, rules,” he groaned dramatically through the phone.

It was their thing. Whenever they were both on shift, (Y/n) would call him when she was on break. He would either be at the station or on a call that basically came to an end, that’s when he’d pick up the phone. If she called him when he was on call, of course he couldn’t answer. But he would call her back as soon as he could.

They had a system, and it worked. But at this moment she wasn’t on break. She just wanted to hear his voice, somehow only hearing his voice made her world stop spinning for a moment. But that phone date in her break was still on.

She chuckled. “I love you, Buck…” she sighed, pausing as she pressed her eyes closed. “Be careful..” she added. She didn’t want to be the one who told him to be careful, to come home safely.

His heart skipped a beat when he heard her saying those words. He could hear the exhaustion in her voice, and the obvious worry. A small smile appeared on his face as he looked down to the asphalt. “Love you more... Call me when you’re on break, okay?”

“I will.” she said, as they both said their goodbyes. Her finger had just touched the red button, as she heard her name being called. She pushed herself from leaning against the doorframe and glanced behind her. She placed her phone into her pocket as she found one of the nurses in charge, hurrying towards her, the urgency written all over her face.

"We need you to run to the store," her boss said slightly out of breath when she was finally in range. (Y/n) frowned at the order, it wasn’t much of a request. “The store?” she asked, confused. “Yeah, we’re completely out of sterile saline bags, and supply won’t be restocking until tomorrow.”

Her frown deepened. Sterile saline bags were an essential part of patient care, they were used for IV fluids, wound cleaning, and a dozen other things. But how had they completely run out?

“Are you sure you don’t have anything left?” she asked as she crossed her arms over her chest. “Did anyone check the main supply closet? Or the back storage?” She double checked. She didn’t want to go to the store. She just wanted to stay here. Do her job, and at the end of her shift to go home and rest. But of course, on her last shift, they had some kind of stupid request.

“Yes. We’ve been rationing for hours, but we’re down to the last few bags. The ER is already packed and we can’t afford to run out completely.” her boss told her.

(Y/n) glanced toward the emergency department, where the controlled chaos of the hospital was at its peak. Nurses moved with precision, doctors barked orders, patients groaned in pain, and interns were having almost trouble to keep up.

She sighed, shifting her weight as she rubbed her aching lower back. “Okay, but can’t one of the interns go instead?” Her boss shook her head. “We need every set of hands here. You’re the only one who can step away for a bit.”

(Y/n) bit back another sigh, frustration creeping in. She was already exhausted, on her last shift before maternity leave, and just counting down the hours until she could go home.

But there was no room for refusal. If they really were that low on saline bags, patients would suffer. If she really was their last hope, she needed to do it. She hesitated, Buck’s voice already entering her mind, telling her she shouldn’t do it, they could find someone else. But eventually she nodded. “Fine. I’ll handle it.”

Her boss gave a quick thank you before rushing off, already being pulled into another emergency. (Y/n) went to the locker room to grab her car keys, mumbling to herself, telling herself this would be quick.

In and out.

-

(Y/n) pushed the door of the store open, a soft chime sounding as (Y/n) stepped into the local medical supply store that was five blocks from the hospital. Cool air-conditioning kissed her warm skin, a welcome relief. The faint scent of cleaning supplies and freshly stocked shelves lingered in the air.

She made her way through the front of the store, and locked her eyes on the guidance boards that were hanging above the aisles. She scanned the boards as she slowly walked through the main aisle.

Mobility care? Nope. That wasn’t what she was looking for. Orthopedic support? No. Emergency and first aid? Could be.. but no. Fluids and irrigation? Bingo. This was the aisle she was looking for.

(Y/n) entered the aisle, and started scanning the shelves for sterile saline bags. Her fingers absently rubbing the curve of her belly. “Sterile saline bags..” she whispered to herself as she searched with her eyes.

“Just grab them and go..” she told herself softly, already longing for the moment she could sit down and rest. It wasn’t nothing, she was carrying an entire person inside of her. And let’s just not start about the heat outside.

Her eyes locked onto the right shelf with the product she needed, but there were more sorts and kinds. What the hell was she supposed to choose? Which one did they use back at the hospital? She sighed as she placed her palm against her forehead. Her pregnancy brain wasn’t with her these days.

She groaned in annoyance as she tried to remember which ones they used. Fuck this. She’d just take both, and they’d have to figure out which one to use. She reached for the plastic packages, her fingers brushed the package as suddenly she got pulled back to reality.

“EVERYBODY GET DOWN! NOW!” a male voice yelled through the medical supply store she was in.

(Y/n) froze on the spot.

The deep roar of the man’s voice shook the air. People gasped at the sudden yell, the muffled whimpers of customers and the clatter of something falling off a shelf filled the sudden silence in the store.

Her pulse thundered in her ears, as she immediately lowered herself, crouching down to the floor. Slowly, she pressed her back against one of the shelves, and used one hand to hold the shelf, to try and keep in balance. Her chest rose, and fell in sharp as shallow breaths took over her rhythm as she listened to the intruder.

A gun. He had a gun. (Y/n) heard the click of the safety being clicked off. "Empty the register!" the man barked, his voice dripping with fury.

(Y/n) squeezed her eyes shut, pressing her other free hand to her belly. Stay calm. Stay quiet. She told herself soundless as she rubbed small circles to try and soothe herself.

The cashier was barely more than a teenager, fumbling at the register, his hands shaking so badly that coins spilled onto the counter. "O-okay, please, just don’t shoot!" she said as she let out a small, terrified sob.

The guy holding the gun was getting impatient. He kept telling the girl behind the counter to “hurry the fuck up.” Clearly, It wasn’t moving quick enough for him, and he was showing it by shooting a bullet through the ceiling.

A gunshot ripped through the store, echoing like a crack of thunder.

(Y/n) held back a cry, her hand clutching the shelf for support as now her other hand moved towards her mouth. The man didn’t need to know that she was in the store. Because she knew that when the cops pulled up, he’d use her. She was fragile, vulnerable, pregnant.

Small pieces of the ceiling cracked and fell down. He had fired into the ceiling, but the message was clear. One wrong move, and the next shot wouldn’t be a warning.

There was a sudden silence in the room. That was interrupted by a buzzing sound.

The phone that was vibrating was hers. Her stomach dropped as fear was creeping in and she hurried to silence her phone. Panickedly she grabbed her phone and clicked the on/off button to make it stop. As quickly as she managed to silence the phone, she glanced at the name.

Buck.

The sound was deafening in the tense quiet of the store. (Y/n) didn’t think. She moved. She had to get out of this damn’ store. She had to hide. She had to do something.

Her body acted before her brain could catch up, her feet carrying her toward the back of the store, towards the employees-only door. If she could just get inside, just get somewhere safe… She reached the door, grabbing at the handle. But as she pushed the handle down, she realized it was locked.

Her breathing hitched as she heard the unmistakable sound of a gun being loaded. "Where do you think you're going?" a male voice asked. The voice was too close.

(Y/n) swallowed hard, as her breath was hitched in her throat. She was too scared to turn around, but she couldn’t just stand here, pretending like she didn’t hear anything. So she turned, pressing her back against the locked door as she directly faced the barrel of the gun.

She stared at the gun that was aimed directly at her. Her body locked up against the door, every instinct screaming at her to run, to fight… But she couldn’t. There was nowhere to go.

The robber tilted his head, his finger resting on the trigger. “You deaf or something?” he sneered. “I asked you a question.”

(Y/n) forced herself to breathe, to stay calm. Panic wouldn’t help her (or the baby) now. “I—I wasn’t going anywhere,” she said, stumbling over her words as she slowly lifted her hands just enough to show she wasn’t a threat. “I didn’t see anything. I—”

“Shut up.” He cut her off, making her flinch at the sudden harsh tone. He stepped closer, the barrel of the gun now just inches away from her chest. “Phone. Give it to me.” he ordered her, as he held out a flat hand and motioned with his fingers.

(Y/n) hesitated for a small second. Buck. If she gave it to him, Buck would keep calling, keep texting, trying to check in. But if she didn’t…

The man stepped forward, pressing the gun just slightly harder against her. She didn’t have a choice.

With trembling fingers, she reached into her scrub pocket and pulled out her phone, holding it out for him to take.

He snatched it from her hand, clicking his tongue as he glanced at the screen. A smirk curled his lips beneath his mask. “Evan Buckley, huh?” He waved the phone slightly. “Boyfriend?” (Y/n)’s stomach twisted, but she didn’t answer.

The man chuckled darkly. “Well, looks like he’s gonna have to wait.” He shoved the phone into his pocket, then jerked his gun toward the front of the store. “Move.” he ordered.

(Y/n) hesitated. He still had the gun dangerously close to her body. What if she made a wrong move? “I said move!” he said louder now, grabbing her upper arm and launching her towards the front of the store.

The sharpness of his voice and the sudden pull on her arm sent a jolt of adrenaline through her body, and she forced her legs to move. The walk toward the front of the store felt endless.

Her heart was slamming against her ribs, her pulse pounding so loud she could barely hear anything else. Her baby shifted inside her, a reminder of just how high the stakes really were. She couldn’t let this escalate. She couldn’t put her baby in danger. She had to survive.

As she stepped into the main area of the store, she saw the other hostages: three terrified customers and the cashier. Their eyes darted to her, their faces pale with fear.

The robber shoved her forward, making her glance over her shoulder. “Sit.” he ordered her. (Y/n) lowered herself carefully onto the cold tile floor, trying to keep her breathing steady. Every instinct in her screamed to protect the baby. But she had to try something.

The other hostages sat nearby, their eyes darting between her and the masked man pacing the front of the store. The cashier, a young woman no older than twenty, was visibly shaking, her breath coming in short gasps. She looked like she might pass out.

(Y/n) forced herself to breathe deeply. Stay calm. Keep him calm. Make no sudden movements. But most important of all: don’t do anything stupid.

The robber was muttering to himself, shoving stacks of cash into his bag with erratic movements. He was jittery and unstable.

Then, movement caught her eye. One of the customers, a man in his forties, was slowly reaching into his pocket. He fished out his phone. He was trying to call for help.

Her stomach twisted at the sight. She wanted to stop the man. But how would she do that without alarming the robber? The robber turned, spotting the movement. His expression snapped into fury. “HEY!” he yelled.

The man barely had time to react before the robber lunged forward, grabbing him by the collar and yanking him up. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!” the gunman sounded agressive, shaking the man roughly. The customer stammered, his face draining of color.

(Y/n) could see it, the erratic breathing, the tightening grip on the trigger. He was going to shoot. Her body moved before she could think. “Hey, hey! Stop!” (Y/n) called out, her voice firm but measured. “You don’t have to do this.” she said.

The robber whipped his head toward her, his gun now aimed directly at her again. Her heart stopped. But she didn’t break eye contact. “Let him go,” she said, keeping her voice even. “Look, you have what you came for. You don’t need to hurt anyone.”

His hands twitched. For a moment, he seemed to consider it. Then he shoved the man back to the ground. (Y/n) exhaled, relief flooding through her. But it didn’t last long.

The robber turned back to her, stepping closer. His hands were shaking now, his breathing erratic. Too unstable. Too unpredictable.

“You think you’re smart, huh?” he muttered. “Think you can just talk me down?” he asked as he stood in front of her, looking down at her as she was sitting on the ice cold floor of the store. (Y/n) swallowed, her pulse hammering. “I just don’t want anyone getting hurt.” she said as she placed her hand onto her stomach.

The gunman exhaled sharply, rubbing his free hand over his face. He was spiraling. He was losing control. And then, he looked at her stomach. His gaze flickered, realization dawning. “Shit,” he muttered. “You’re pregnant.” he realized.

(Y/n) didn’t respond. Wasn’t it obvious? Was he that focussed on anything else that he didn’t notice she was pregnant? But the slight stiffening of her posture gave her away.

The man cursed again, his grip tightening on the gun. “This is a goddamn mess,” he muttered, more to himself than to anyone else. “This wasn’t supposed to happen.” he added.

(Y/n) saw the moment he made his decision. She knew it before he even moved. He lifted the gun, and without thinking for a moment, he fired.

Pain exploded through her shoulder. She gasped, the force of the bullet knocking her backwards against the shelves. The pain was blinding, hot, suffocating. The four people around her screamed and cried. But all she could think about was the pain she felt.

She was fighting her vision that was starting to blur. She clutched her shoulder, feeling the warmth of blood seeping through her scrubs as she tried to put pressure onto the wound. Her breathing turned ragged, her head was starting to spin. No. No. Stay awake.

A soft, fluttering movement stirred inside her. Her jaw clenched as she forced herself to hold pressure against the wound, despite the pain.

Somewhere in the haze, she heard the distant wail of sirens. Help was coming.

______

The fire engine rumbled down the road, the smell of smoke still lingering in Buck’s gear as they made their way back to the station. The apartment fire had been brutal, but they’d managed to put it out with no casualties.

Still, Buck barely registered the usual post-call banter from the rest of the crew in the back of the truck. His focus was on his phone, which he had just pulled from his pocket.

A few minutes past her break time.

His thumb hovered over the screen. She always called during break. That was their routine, no matter how crazy their shifts were, they always made time. And if someone couldn’t make it, they would give each other a heads up.

Maybe she was just busy. That’s what she’d said earlier on the phone. The hospital was swamped. Still… she was pregnant. She needed to take that break. It was crucial.

He frowned at her contact for a moment, but decided to hit dial. The line rang once… twice… and then went to voicemail. Buck sighed, rubbing the back of his neck as the recorded message played in his ear. "Hey, it's me. Just checking in. Call me when you can, okay? Love you." He hung up and immediately shot off a text.

Buck: You okay? Just missed your break. Call me when you get a sec.

The worried crease between his brows didn't go unnoticed. "What's up with you?" Chimney asked from across the truck, giving Buck a knowing look. "You’ve got that ‘overthinking everything’ face on again." he added.

Buck huffed a small laugh but didn’t look up "It’s probably nothing." he said. Bobby glanced at him in the rearview mirror. "Y/N okay?" Bobby asked.

"Yeah. I mean, I think so. She just—" Buck shook his head, staring at his phone screen. "She always calls on break. And she’s late." Hen shot him a sympathetic smile, "Hospitals get busy. Maybe she got held up." she tried to think of an explanation.

"Yeah," Buck muttered, trying to convince himself that was all it was. He was probably seeing things that weren’t there. The others let the conversation drop, but Buck couldn't shake the weird feeling in his gut.

“Station 118, respond to a silent alarm triggered at Medline essentials on 6th Street. LAPD en route, requesting fire and rescue response as a precaution.” The sound of a dispatch caller came through on the radio, making Buck’s ears perk up immediately.

A silent alarm. A possible robbery.

Bobby grabbed his radio. "Copy that, Dispatch. 118 en route." And with those words the sirens blared to life, Chimney glanced at Buck. "Fire and rescue? For a robbery?" Chimney asked.

"It’s protocol," Hen explained. "If there are hostages or injuries, PD calls us in to handle medical care while they clear the scene. Sometimes perps start fires as a distraction too."

Buck barely heard her. Medline essentials. His fingers tightened around his phone. Why did that sound familiar to him?

Eventually the fire engine rolled to a stop, lights flashing against the darkened windows of Medline essentials. The parking lot was swarming with LAPD officers, their weapons raised as SWAT moved in through the entrance. Buck could feel his pulse racing, though he wasn’t sure if it was from the adrenaline or something deeper.

Buck stood with the rest of 118, his jaw tight as he watched the tactical team disappear inside. His phone was still in his hand. No new messages. No calls. The uneasy feeling in his gut only grew.

He shoved the phone back into his pocket as he focussed on the scene in front of him, on the robber being dragged out in cuffs, screaming about how "it wasn’t supposed to go like this."

Bobby’s voice came over their radios “Alright, we’ve got the all-clear. Hen, Chimney, Eddie, you’re up first. See what we’ve got inside. The rest of you, wait for my signal.”

Buck exhaled sharply, flexing his fingers at his sides. He hated waiting. Especially on calls where he couldn’t help most of the time. Hen, Chim, and Eddie grabbed their gear and pushed inside. The crunch of the shattered glass filled Hen’s ears as she entered the scene.

Hen’s eyes scanned the scene. People were crying, a few clutching minor wounds, but her focus snapped to the one figure leaning against the shelves near the counter. The sight made Hen’s stomach drop. “Oh, my God.” she mumbled as she realized who it was.

(Y/n).

She was pale, blood soaked her light blue scrubs, one arm limp at her side as she was trying to keep pressure on the wound with her right arm. It wasn’t as much pressure as she had been applying earlier. But at least she was still awake. Barely.

Eddie’s eyes shot Hen’s way, and followed what she was looking at. “Shit,” Eddie muttered as he also realized who was on scene.

Hen crouched beside (Y/n), her fingers gently pressing against her wrist as she checked her pulse. It was weak and thready. Not good. Her skin was too pale, a thin sheen of sweat covering her forehead. She was going into shock.

(Y/n)'s eyes fluttered. “Hen…” Her voice was hoarse and full of pain.

“Hey, (Y/n), stay with me,” Hen urged, her voice calm but firm. She tried to get (Y/n) to focus on her, but her eyes were starting to drift.

(Y/n) blinked slowly, her breathing coming out in shallow gasps. “Baby… kicked…” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.

Hen’s stomach twisted, she glanced at Eddie and Chimney, their faces mirroring her concern. “She’s crashing,” Hen muttered under her breath. “Chim! I need you over here now.”

Chimney was by her side in an instant. The moment he took one look at (Y/n), his face paled. “Shit.” Without hesitation, he knelt beside her and pressed his hands firmly against the wound, applying more pressure.“She’s lost too much blood. We need to move her now.” Hen said as she immediately grabbed her radio.

“Bobby, we have a problem.” she spoke into the radio. Followed by a short pause. Then Bobby’s voice came through, calm but firm. “What kind of problem, Hen?”

She glanced down at (Y/n), her light blue scrubs darkened with blood, her body slumping further against the shelf. Hen clenched her jaw. “I can’t tell you over the radio,” she said quietly. That was all Bobby needed to hear. “Copy. I’m coming in.”

Hen looked up at Eddie and Chimney, their expressions tense. They all knew what this meant, they needed a gurney now. But Buck was outside, and he couldn’t be the one to bring it in.

“Eddie,” Hen said sharply. “Go get the gurney.” she ordered him. Eddie’s brows furrowed at the request. “Hen-” he barely said her name as he got cut off by her. “Go. Now.” Her tone left no room for argument.

With a deep breath, Eddie gave one last glance at (Y/n) before rushing out of the store.

Buck’s brows furrowed as he watched Eddie haul the gurney toward the entrance of the store. Why Eddie? What was going on inside that store?

Why wouldn’t they just radio him to grab it? That’s how it usually went, he was the one who handled the gurney, the one who brought it inside. But this time, they had sent Eddie.

Something was off. It felt like they didn’t want Buck to be on scene.

His heart pounded harder against his ribs. “Eddie!” he called out his name, stepping forward. But Eddie ignored him, but he could clearly hear him. He didn’t even glance his way. Just kept pushing forward like a man on a mission.

Buck moved faster, closing the distance between them. “Hey, what the hell is going on?” His voice rose, frustration creeping in as Eddie continued to avoid him.

Nothing. No answer.

That was when Buck stepped directly in front of the gurney, blocking his path. Eddie let out a sharp breath, stopping just in time to avoid hitting him. “Buck, move.”

Buck’s jaw clenched. “No. Not until you tell me what’s going on.” His blue eyes searched Eddie’s face, desperation creeping in. “What the hell is going on? Why’d they send you out instead of calling me?”

“No, Eddie. Talk to me.” His voice sharpened. “Why wouldn’t Hen radio for me? Who’s hurt?”

Eddie swallowed hard. His gaze flickered toward the store, just for a second. Eddie tightened his grip on the gurney’s handles. He was tense, trying to keep his expression neutral, but Buck knew him too well. Buck’s stomach twisted.

Realization slammed into him like a freight train. His breath hitched.

His voice came out quieter this time, almost a whisper. “Eddie… is it—?” he stumbled over his words. Eddie exhaled through his nose, looking down for a second before finally meeting Buck’s gaze. And that’s when Buck knew.

Eddie’s jaw tensed. “She’s losing too much blood.”

His hands shook as he took a step back, his breath coming in shorter gasps. “No.”

“No. No, Eddie.” Buck’s voice cracked, panic clawing at his chest. He turned toward the store entrance, his vision tunneling. Eddie reached out, grabbing Buck’s arm before he could move. “Buck-”

“She’s in there.” Buck yanked his arm free, his heart racing as he turned and bolted for the store’s entrance.

Hen and Chimney were still focused on (Y/n), trying to keep her stable. But her condition was rapidly deteriorating. Her color was draining from her face, her breathing shallow and erratic. Her body was going into shock.

Hen’s hands were shaking as she was now the one who applied pressure to the wound on her shoulder, but nothing was enough. “We need that gurney, now.” Hen snapped. “Chim, stay with her. I’ll-” But before Hen could finish, the door slammed open.

Buck.

His eyes locked onto (Y/n), and for a split second, everything else seemed to blur out of focus. He made to move toward her, but Bobby, who had just stepped into the store behind him, grabbed his arm.

“Buck! Wait!” Bobby shouted, holding him back with surprising force. “You can’t-” But Buck was too far gone. That was his girl inside. His child. He needed to be there.

“Let go of me!” Buck struggled against Bobby’s grip, his face contorted with panic. “I’m not waiting, Bobby! I need to help her!” Bobby shook his head, his expression hard. “You need to stay out of the way, Buck. We need to focus. Let them do their job.”

But Buck couldn’t hear him. All he could see was (Y/n), her pale face and limp body. She was slipping away.

And then, without warning, Hen’s voice cracked. “She’s seizing!”

Buck’s blood ran cold as he saw (Y/n)’s body convulse violently, her back arching as her limbs jerked uncontrollably. The sight of her in such distress sent waves of horror through him.

“(Y/n)!” Buck screamed, his voice raw with desperation. But her eyes remained closed. There was no response. This couldn’t be happening.

Bobby tried to hold Buck back, but it was useless. Buck’s heart was breaking as he watched her convulse on the floor. “Please, baby, stay with me… please,” he whispered under his breath, choking on his own panic.

Just as the medics worked frantically around her, Buck felt a suffocating weight in his chest. He couldn’t be there. He couldn’t reach her. His voice broke through the chaos again, louder, more desperate. “(Y/n)!”
