every once in a while i remember my “???% only appears when mob sustains fatal injuries that otherwise would have killed him because it’s the only time his will supersedes his desire to repress it” theory/headcanon and make myself sad
🫠 i dont know what i am drawing but i love post confession terumob
so like basically in the REIGEN manga tome tries so desperately to throw herself into the center of this literal Superhuman world she sees and play the role of the eager young protagonist and its so endearing but in the end reigen has to come clean and she can’t keep using the spiritual premise as a crutch. not because she was wrong to have her whimsical interests, but because the fantasy of specialness can often be an escape from the isolation a person feels due to being unable to live up to societal ideals of normalcy, and yet in the end the fantasy can itself end up feeding directly into the isolation by obscuring your view of the other people in your life. you cannot prioritize the idea of being unique or special alone and that is the reason that the power structures in the story (as represented by roshuuto in REIGEN) so frequently fail short; because actually EVERYONE is a Pathetic Freak Weirdo Nerd Loser, from the handsome, popular rich boy, to the pretentious Dark!Reigen foil who takes himself too seriously, to all of the mundane teenage girls who the audience is initially tricked into dismissing as shallow, but also by the same token EVERYONE deserves to be loved and feel supported.
because actually bonds with other people are the most important thing, and centrally this is also why REIGEN relies so heavily on bonds with others as something to create horror. the evil spirit mimics the voices of the ones you love and lures you in and when you’re at your most lost and scared and in need, that’s when you turn around and the face of the person you trust betrays you. tome only contracts the fatal curse in the first place because she cared about reigen and went back to make amends with him. because that’s the most horrifying, most terrifying thing, the thing that renders you absolutely helpless, isn’t it? it’s letting yourself rely on others and trust them to the point that it leaves you vulnerable, isn’t it? but you have to do it, if you want to achieve true connection then you can’t continue keeping up a veneer of Specialness and posturing as someone you’re not no matter how afraid you are of being seen as your true self. that’s the idea that really connects tome and reigen above all else. you have to be who you really are and you have to trust that you’ll be loved for it. and that’s horrifying! that’s an unimaginable, Forbidden terror! but it’s necessary.
and also I think it’s so clever how REIGEN conveys this by only bringing in shigeo kageyama, the protagonist and most recognizable character who the reader has so many preconceived notions of, in at the last moment as a terrifying ghost who is impersonating him. I mean also it’s partially because shigeo can easily be made to look scary lol, because let’s be real, he can be pretty goddamn scary /hj BUT MOSTLY it’s to have him in his uniform, in his most recognizable and iconic form that the reader will cling to, and then have it be blown away by the post-canon shigeo, the real shigeo, the shigeo who has grown and changed and is no longer stuck in the role he once was. because to be vulnerable with others you have to grow and change and do away with old pretenses and dynamics that you’ve become dependent on. it can be scary to stop playing roles after you’ve grown use to them for so long, but you don’t need them - your most honest self will be the most loved. and also I love how just like tome could tell that it was the real reigen bcause he immediately ran into a spiderweb and yelled, you can tell that it’s the real shigeo because he’s immediately rude as fuck and he and reigen literally instantly go into their mean pithy little affectionate banter lol ok sorry anyway.
and also because you cannot really be any more or less special than anyone else and you need bonds with others, it’s true both that you have to rely on other people, but also that you owe it to them to be kind. reigen is literally a normal person working in the spirit business, so he has to rely on other people with the necessary abilities, such as dimple the spirit and serizawa the psychic, yes, but he also does his part to take care of the people who matter to him. roshuuto is so focused on appearances and power - as shown by how he goes on and on about connections - but when it comes down to it, he was not willing to save others (leaving hoshido in Reliance), and so nobody bothered trying to save him in turn. he only abandoned, and was abandoned. this is shown most acutely in the end by how roshuuto “has no other option” but to pass his curse on to someone else to save himself, while reigen “has no other option” to take on a curse to save someone else. reigen and serizawa accepting their responsibility as adults to protect the children around them is an extension of the idea that you are equal to everyone and are obligated to be kind to your loved ones and recieve kindness in turn. anyway mutual trust and communication is all that matters and tome kurata is The protagonist of all time Sorry,
I recently saw a post here on Tumblr that said that when a fanfic gets deleted from Archiveofourown.com or Fanfiction.net (or any other website you can think of) you will never be able to find this again. But let me tell you… this isn’t true.
Nothing ever leaves the web!
I’m going to be using @jbsforever as example. Hope you don’t mind! And if you do just tell me and I’ll delete this post.
Anyway, jbsforever recently deleted all of her fics on Ao3. This is how her page looks like right now:
As you can see there are only 3 fics available. She had a lot more than that. Luckily for us, she’s putting them on again! (THANK YOU SO MUCH 😘). But there were still 16 fanfictions available that we can’t access through her page anymore.
All you will want to do is open google.com, type in the name of the writer (or the name of the fanfiction if you remember) + the website that their fanfiction was published on.
So for example: jbsforever archive of our own
Now you would have the normal search results appear, like here above ^^.
Normally you would click on the words that are in blue to go to their page. But this will bring you to how the page is currently installed. So we will be working with the words under there, the ones that appear in green. You can see a little arrow pointing downwards at the end of it.
Click on this arrow and a little box with the word “cached” will appear. You will want to click on this. Guess what her page looks like now?
TADA!!!!! 16 fanfictions and their names for you to enjoy. Unfortunately if you click on one of the stories while on this (rediscovered?) page, you will get an error:
But don’t worry! All you have to do, is take the title of the story you want to read. Go through the exact same process you just did with the author’s name, but just type their name and the title into google now (author + title). And you will have access to their deleted stories!
You will have to google each chapter individually (so type in google: author + title + chapter of choice), but honestly that’s a small price to pay for having access to a goldmine of fanfiction!
Hope this will come in handy for you! And thank you @jbsforever (ily ♥♥♥).
Have fun reading, everybody!
I think it’s worth pointing out that after Riza, Ed and Scar manage to talk Roy down from his rampage, his eyes look exactly the same as they do in the Ishval chapters. Even after he’s decided NOT to kill Envy, even after he’s backed away from the line between monster and human, he has the eyes of a killer. It’s not until he’s realized how far he almost went that Arakawa draws his eyes like this, btw. Here and in volume 15 there is a sorrow and a weariness in his eyes that only comes with the guilt and self-disgust that he feels when he realizes he almost crossed that line between human and monster.
Plus, he looks like this for the rest of the scene. Realizing he almost let himself become “a beast hiding in the skin of a person” (in Scar’s words) affected him more deeply and lingered with him a little longer than I originally thought.

T/L notes: [comments/additions]. I did not translate literally, as usual, but I tried my best to keep the essence/tone of the sentences.
Four men + α (with no girlfriend) will answer questions about Mustang! Let’s reveal the secrets of the Colonel!!
Q: With whom did he spend his 30th birthday?
HAVOC: Somebody finally asked! [lit. trans.: I’ve been waiting!]. He was so proud that he celebrated every year with everyone, but only for his 30th birthday, he was alone and lonely, and went home and drank all by himself. Colonel Mustang — the king of popularity — drinking alone!! He was busy with the transfer to Central, and that’s on top of the mess with Barry, right? Moreover, he was confined in a military hospital so he could not make an appointment for a date. Serves him right!
FALMAN: While he [Mustang] was in the hospital, a bunch of visitors arrived at the headquarters [looking for him]. There weren’t any for the second lieutenant, though.
HAVOC: SCREW YOU!!!
Q: Is it true that he is the type [of person] hated by dogs?
FUERY: Instead of saying hated, I feel that it is at the same level as being regarded with dislike. In his attempt to make the dog obey, the colonel approaches it bossily, which in turn, makes the dog wary of him. He tried to lure it with bait before, but it seems he failed. So even the colonel has his weak points…
Q: Is it true that he has a habit of sleeping with his mouth open? [it comes with the picture of Roy in the Archives Room with Szieska waking him up]
FALMAN: It’s true. While on duty, he is quite focused on showing that he is finishing his work that is why he is exhausted. I’ve also heard of a testimony that he was sleeping while hugging a pillow and was drooling with his mouth open in the nap room of the Eastern Headquarters. [this is based on Havoc’s report from Roy Mustang Observation Diary]
Q: How does he code his research notes?
BREDA: It seems that everything is [coded with] female names. Furthermore, his notes are written as a date diary. Well, in that case, he has to come up with women’s names one after the other.
Q: Did he really steal someone else’s girlfriend?
HAVOC: Some guys were jeering [at Mustang] when he fought Ed in the parade grounds in the past [in Flame vs. Fullmetal battle]. That would be unjustified resentment from a misunderstanding if the break-up line was “I have someone else I like.” Even so, I understand the desire to think that the girlfriend was stolen. Me too… *tears*
Q: Is it true that his drawing [skill] is bad?
FUERY: Rather than saying he is unskillful, [we can say] he is as good as an elementary school student. An alchemist is someone who can draw a perfect circle with his bare hands, but this is quite interesting. Edward seems to have the same level of drawing skill as the colonel.
Q: Is it true that his type of woman varies [i.e. he has a wide scope]?
EDWARD: He is on the same level as everyone else!! This is annoying~ You’re right. The Colonel smiles at any woman — no matter who she is — and he says the sweetest things to her that teeth could fall off. He’s a scary bastard. I think older women are no exception.
Q: Which part of a woman is the most attractive?
MUSTANG: Wow. I would say a woman is attractive no matter where you look at, I can’t decide. *laughs* But if I may dare say, it’s the “thigh.” [yes, I triple checked the translation, it’s not the leg, but thigh!!]. With that said, Havoc…
HAVOC: BOOBS~!!
I really like the questions from this Q&A (OMG, the first and last Qs killed me!!), but translating Edward’s answer was such a pain. His speech pattern is so informal, I got confused with the words several times!!
I was laughing my head off while translating because Team Mustang (especially Havoc) is epic <3 Falman’s replies are very polite. Fuery’s answers are kind and cute. Havoc’s bitterness and snarky comments are absolutely hilarious. Ed is being annoying and angsty, while Roy is smooth as silk as usual.
I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. There are still some interesting Q&A pages I’ve bookmarked from FMA Institute DX that I’d like to translate. I hope I find enough motivation to do them!! Until next time~
And this right here is why we stan Reigen. He’s the best Master. And this is character development.
Best Master, not a failure:
No one thought Reigen should go up the tower. He has no powers and -after ep07- he knows that Mob knows, so there’s no excuse to expect that. Not only that, but for once Mob went out of his way to tell everyone to stay out of it, that they’d be in the way.
It wasn’t Reigen’s fight, or his fault for not going.
But he doesn’t see it that way.
He doesn’t treat Mob like an overpowered gun at his disposal, he treats him like the child he is, and sees it as a failure when he forgets to treat Mob as such.
(He let Mob take the decision of what to do instead helping him through a plan as the adult he is, and now Mob is on the ground with his face all swollen and boy does Reigen regret it.)
He’s the best because when he realized his mistake, he didn’t hesitate to rush to the top to save him even though it’s obvious anything that beats Mob is likely not going to lose to some punches and an esper gun, but he has to try.
And he tried while making sure it’s clear to Mob that whatever happens next -his possible death- and whatever happened until now -Mob losing- is not Mob’s fault at all but his own.
It was Mob who insisted everyone stay behind, but Reigen rewrites it like he was the one that allowed it to happen. He even goes as far as to praise Mob for what he’s done up to now, despite, again, anyone looking at the scene thinking Mob failed, and then tries to reassure him by promising they’d go eat like normal later.
And of course, the whole dialogue fight between Mob and Serizawa was a conflict of Masters, and Mob winning the way he did was proof of Reigen’s success as a Master (and a comparison to Toichiro’s shit exploitation of people)
(But Reigen doesn’t know about that and likely never will)
Character Development:
Reigen said he made a mistake and called himself a bad Master.
While that’s not a good development for his issues of self worth, it shows development in his willingness to be more forthcoming and sincere with Mob.
He could have tried to make up an excuse where Mob isn’t at fault for the current state of affairs but neither is he. Instead he chose to admit his belief that’s he’s failed as a Master (even though his worst fear is Mob not needing him anymore, and between him knowing Reigen has no powers, and reigen failing to protect him, the chances of him leaving Reigen are higher, in Reigen’s mind)
