I'm kind of a beginner when it comes to poses and uh, dinamism, how do you come out with your poses? It just comes to mind or do you find some pose and use it in your drawings? I feel like I have no imagination when it comes to it, and when I do, I cant find the right reference so I'm lost at anatomy
it’s part of imagination and part reference. without getting too long winded, it helps to have a general understanding of anatomy and how the body can look in perspective. but for dynamic poses it’s important to just capture the gesture of the pose so you can really feel movement i guess… like try drawing with your whole arm and doing your first sketch in a minute or less! the more your refine a piece, you’ll be tightening it up and losing some of the strong gesture so don’t be afraid to really push it at first
the soulburner drawing was mostly from imagination (i started with a photo ref but ditched it immediately) but like you can see in the process video i did a bunch of really fast, exaggerated sketches of the pose before reeling it in to something more tight and toned down
alternatively- i’ve been wanting to experiment more with dynamic poses which has led me to a bad habit of impulse buying pose collection books from a japanese bookstore near me
i only have fighting pose collections but they’re really good to pull from! i don’t usually copy the poses exactly and just use them for reference so it’s pretty handy and versatile. most of them include both clothed and semi-clothed reference of the same actions which is also neat
these books can be kind of expensive but there are a lot of free pose sites and collections around the internet as well (for example off the top of my head, senshistock)
but yeah i’m kinda talking out of my ass so i hope this gives you a couple ideas (´ . .̫ . `)
Honestly cannot blame you my duder.
Hope y’all are fucking happy

The Fallen Izzy. A bday gift for @pirategrime , commissioned by @greenlikethesea Thank you for a beautiful prompt!
(guy who hasnt eaten today voice) no no im fine its just yknow the horrors. yeah theyre unending again
alright kids let’s break this down one last fuckin time (and this is a breakdown of just aesthetics)-
goth: all black, often very elaborate, gothically inspired (obviously), not branded
emo: still lots of black but much more casual, skinny jeans, certain brand shirts (usually music-themed), converse/vans, jewelry, specific hairstyles, think 2000’s hot topic kids
punk: lots of black again, very elaborate but in a completely different way, studs, chains, patches, piercings, leather, another set of specific hairstyles and bright hair colors, really rooted in anarchical themes
grunge: old clothes, flannels, oversized, layers, ripped jeans, distressed **if you’re buying “grunge” clothes new, you’re a fucking sham, the entire grunge aesthetic arose from garage bands too poor to afford clothes that weren’t thrifted, poorly sized, and already worn out**
additionally, all of these include elements of gender non-conformity and prioritize self-expression as well as identification as belonging to a group
and remember!!! all of these are actual subcultures, not just aesthetics, so when you say you’re “being goth/etc” remember to specify that you mean aesthetically, because its not fair to boil an entire subgroup of people down to just their aesthetic trends
Another Rick i'm working on!! This (if university doesn't kill me) will be rendered asap!!! WIP

Thinking about Izzy Hands, who based his entire sense of identity and structured his whole understanding of life around the "love makes you weak" piracy philosophy that Blackbeard enforced despite both of them being poorly suited to it, and how he deserves so much better than getting cut loose and abandoned like dead weight because Edward was tossed a rope to pull himself out of the pit they were both stuck in while Izzy is still trying to grasp the pit actually ends.
Thinking about Edward Teach, who was told as a child that he can't have or keep the things he wants and had that lesson reinforced in his adult life to the point where his individual desires and identity get wrapped up in who he's trying to be at any given moment, and how he deserves so much better than happiness with fine print stating the price of his new life is permanently cutting out and discarding his old, including the parts of himself he genuinely enjoyed in Blackbeard and the main person he shared that enjoyment with, to build a new persona that is exactly as real and fake as Blackbeard was, just made with different parts to fit in with different people.
Thinking about how they got into this mess together, how they both could see the metaphorical cage and they both seemingly lost their identity - personal and collective - to the strain of hopelessly living in it, and how they both deserve to make it out. Together.
