I swear I needed to hear this
fanfic writers, here’s a friendly reminder that you are not less of a writer if you haven’t posted anything in years, you are not less of a writer if your works aren’t as popular as other writers’, you are not less of a writer if some trolls left you rude comments (they either just want your attention or are simply intimidated/threatened by your talent), you are not less of a writer if you write short one-shots instead of a 100k novel-length fanfic, you are not less of a writer if you’re not satisfied with your writing (I promise you it’s so much better than you think, you should be proud of yourself), you are not less of a writer if you’re not comfortable posting any of your works at all.
you are always as valid as any other fellow writers out there.
another reminder: fanfic writing is not a competition, and it’s not a job. don’t put so much pressure on yourself. always remember, the point of writing fanfictions is that we get to have fun, escape reality into the world we create in which we can write anything we want.
it stops being a getaway and a safe place the second we treat writing fanfic as a job or a competition. no, you’re not writing for anybody. you’re writing for you. this world you create is just you and your blorbos. have fun. it’s your getaway.
Sand and his generosity.
Sand is a great character and I find it interesting that even though he did a crime, is actively doing another crime the majority of the fandom is behind him being such a good guy, and he is. But it got me thinking. Why is he so generous towards ray?
Now 14 yr old me would have instantly said true love but now I know a lot more. Something about his care for ray feel so familiar. Like he knows exactly what to do with someone like ray, on the verge of an alcoholic spiral 24/7.
The first few episodes we see them connecting but even if they did connect more then the other couples, there was something huge missing. Sand didn't know the extend of rays addiction. And then we see sand processing it and then top comes barging in and derails him and the entire trainwreck that resulted and sand had understood just how gone ray is. That boy needs rehab asap.
But sand goes after him, he saves him, he takes care of him, he bends to his every whim and is happy to do so, only to be tossed aside. And it's in the way he takes care of him. He knows how to take care of a drunk person , he knows how to be gentle with them , he knows how to scold them without coming across as demeaning or prejudice. He has the patience of someone who's already dealt with circumstances like these. Of taking care of a loved one who is an addict.
You can see it in the way he doesn't bring up the outburst. He bought up the drunk driving because it has the potential to cause lasting harm. But an outburst in a bar will be just that an outburst. Sand doesn't know that ray had told mew about topton, but he doesn't give the outburst much thought when ray had attacked him directly. And that's where I think he knows what to except from an outburst from an addict and is choosing to not take it personally. And that level of insight is not typical in a 20 something college kid , even if the college kid works in a bar , because ray targeted him specially. Nobody would have blamed him if he didn't go, heck rays friends who he have known for years didn't go but sand a recent acquaintance went.
Now it can be said that sand has seen the good side of ray, and he has. When it comes with dealing with addicts most people focus on changing the bad side and forget about the good side. But sand didn't , he saw the good side, liked it and is trying to get that back. That smile in the bathtub, he thought he was getting it back. But then he saw raymew dancing and that look is so interesting. Because there's no anger, there's sadness, and heartbreak and disappointed. And there's resignation. He predicted it would happen and it did.
He wasn't disappointed with ray, he was disappointed in himself. He was dealing with an addict, trying to save him when the person doesn't want to be saved. Something he has done before. Something he so familiar with he was anticipating the heartbreak when he and ray had hooked up. It's exactly like playing with fire.
So why did he jump right in when he knows the pain, because it's familiar to him.
So who's this person who has given sand the experience with working with addicts . Either his mom who's the closest person we have seen to him or his ex.
Imagine if it was his ex , someone he loved , cared for and has helped with a recovery process but then top comes and takes him away. By using drugs.
Which would explain why sand is so mad at him , why he insisted that top stole him.
Sand saw the good side with his ex , helped him get back and all that was tossed away for the next fix that top had with him. And he fought tooth and nails for him , but the ex chose his next fix and not him.
Then his eyes fell on a boy similar to his ex , who's also going through addiction and sand wants to help him since it's so familiar. And he knows it's a bad idea and he is watching the exact same thing happen away and this time he's so resigned and too tired too fight.
His generosity is not just because he's a good person , it's because he's used to it, it's because it's familiar to him.
Exactly. And I was crying so much.
Ok the sun and the star is cringe (in a ‘this is definitely written for middle schoolers and not for me’ way), but it is also very endearing. The idea of slowly unraveling the strings of pain, heartache, anger, isolation and grief that you’ve wound deep in your chest after enduring so much trauma and figuring out the balance of light and dark that can and does coincide within you and the the realization that you do not have to carry the weight of all of it alone is just … excruciatingly beautiful and powerful
When Jack put the red blanket on Joke, I noticed Joke has a little J with a heart tattooed on his shoulder, which I got a glimpse of in the second episode.
He doesn't have a chip on his shoulder. He has a heart on his shoulder. He wears his feelings on his shoulder. In his color.
There is no Joker of Hearts. There is only a Jack of Hearts!
The Jack of Hearts sits on Joke's left shoulder which is normally concealed.
And the Jack of Hearts represents young men in love.
Joke fell in love in one night five years ago and has been thinking about it ever since.
And that's why the ring with Jack's name on it belongs on Joke's finger. He already has Jack tattooed all over his body. Now he just needs Jack to allow Joke to permanently place Jack's name in his heart.
That was an amazing first episode , watched it more then 3 times now ( for analysis of course ). The colours, the sex and the ass wow.
Now for the point of this post , the time travel. I have so many questions. I know it's only the first episode and as expected the time travel hijink is a mystery.
Great is not just seeing the images or flashes of the future, he's experiencing it. He's scared after the accident and abandon the women. Then we see it was just a vision. But it's not shot in a way that we feel like he's having a vision , it's shot in a way which makes it seem like he's given a second choice. Like the universe is telling him you are going to make a bad choice asshole, don't do it and go make a better one.
It happened the next time too with tyme. He just runs away after bumping into tyme(lol) , after hearing the women's monologue about the son his age" (chekov's gun ). Then after he gets the vision ( foresight or a warning ), he changes his choice to see the women , sees tyme and gets another vision of them having sex. Of course he gets interested. It's so funny. " Hey I am having these traumatic visions I don't understand but one of them shows me having back breaking sex with a hot doctor so I am going to find out what it's about. "
And tyme's response to both is interesting. In the future vision he's like who's this asshole. Afterwards he's like who is this gorgeous angel that bumped into him.
We know dude , Bible has that effect.
Another interesting point , great makes morally right decision after the visions. Like I said above, it's like he's given a second choice. Expect in the beginning of the ep we saw tyme with a wound ( lmao that name ) and who I assume is great having an cardiac arrest. Somehow his second chances are going to run out.
It could be that the editing and the way the time vision is shown is just creative liberty and I am thinking too much. But it doesn't change the fact that great is making morally right and different choices which is having a positive result in his life. Now will it remain positive is the question ?
God this series is a mindfuck and I am loving it.
