— Uzi loves playing Mario kart with N since he’s a terrible driver because she always wins. She’s not above that.
— Tessa wanted to be a hairdresser or in R&D for computer science when she grew up and loved practicing on her drones. She was leaning towards hair, though she had a knack with drones. You can imagine what her parents thought of these career leanings.
— J actually changed hair/wigstyles quite a bit because of this. The wildest “phase” was bubblegum pink. Her parents made her throw out the mohawk wig. :(
— J genuinely loved/loves Tessa, possibly even more than any of the others did; she just also faced the most punishment since she was the drone with Tessa the most and therefore she was the easiest to get ahold of. Thus, she faced Tessa’s parents’ wrath more often and was even more afraid of them than the others. This led to a sort of learned helplessness/submission in her that was hard to unlearn.
— J is actually very, very self conscious. She’s isn’t a bully just to be a bitch but because she thinks it will save her from being the focus of someone’s wrath. Scapegoating at its finest. (Though she still is a bitch.)
— J steals the wigs from workers she kills and wears them sometimes. She doesn’t know exactly why; it just feels oddly familiar.
— The three DDs all snuggled like a pile of puppies in the space pod when in sleep mode. The pod can be programmed for a destination but has to be piloted (or lack thereof) to the surface so they could just snooze until initial descent (and they did!).
— Antifreeze is the drone equivalent of Monster energy drinks, so, naturally, Uzi lives off the stuff.
— Most drones actually make their own wigs! A lot of them are from thin wires they’ve scavenged from Copper 9’s wreckage, though there’s some made from melted plastic like faux hair human wigs.
— Thad collects Nerf guns. They’re more fun than the real thing for him. That’s one thing Uzi and Thad can chat about for hours.
— Thad and Uzi also collaborate (and compete) on pranks! They have a prank hit list of workers they want to mess with and whoever checks everyone off first is the winner. Their favorite was replacing Lizzy’s lip gloss with oil. Cruel, yes, but the gross-out factor had them in stitches for at least an hour.
— Thad has a JROTC-like chapter of the WDF as an after-school club. It’s mostly just LARPing with his Nerf collection.
— V bites the tips of her claws as a nervous habit. They’re a bit dented and scuffed because of this.
— Khan is a magnet user to cope with the stress of the colony’s existence on his shoulders, the loss of Nori, and single parenting. He doesn’t really tell anyone about it and is pretty high functioning.
— N is a huge fan of stickers! He has found a few packs of them and loves decorating himself/paper/Uzi’s hoodie when she’s not looking/pretty much everything them.
— V and J are girl’s girls.
— Lizzy has painted V’s claws Barbie pink before. V absolutely adored how it turned out.
— Doll was adopted by Lizzy’s parents after her own family died and while she hides out at her old home to hide her consumption of oil/etc a lot of the time, she actually lives at Lizzy’s; this is why they’re so inseparable.
— Speaking of Lizzy, the only one to mourn Doll’s loss will be Lizzy and her family, though Uzi will make every attempt to give her and what’s left of her parents’ remains a decent resting place. — Humanized Khan is buff.
— Khan once threw Uzi a birthday party. None of her classmates showed up (though Thad did send a very nice card) so she only got one present. Guess what it was?
Okay so I just thrifted these boot bases for a Long Fall Boot build for my Chell cosplay (planning on lengthening the back calf part with white leather and busting out my thrifted skyrunners for a bit of extra long fall pizzazz later, I’ll post the whole build later) and need the good people’s opinion! I’m planning on probably weathering my jumpsuit but I’m not quiiiite sure whether to leave the scuffs as pre-installed weathering or get rid of em and have them pristine!
The silly in Caine burns brighter than the hate in AM and I think that’s beautiful
(Aka on today’s episode of the virgin AM vs the Chad Caine)
just a silly little GLaDOS doodle because I just KNOW she’s got that white woman interior design taste in the part of her that’s still Caroline… like she was his assistant in the 50s and lived through farmhouse chic in the 90s of course she has white woman decorating taste
Product name would have to be Ted and it would have to be brown ofc. Only question is what scent it would be.
Edgar is going to get a funky cute little outfit and I’ve got a fit in mind for GLaDOS but I’m torn on what AM should wear…
also new chapter of my fanfic drops later today yippee! :D doing some art for it real soon!
I’ll also be sharing my cosplans as soon as I finish budgeting/planning/all the boring stuff no one likes in a week or two!
edit: oh so we’re making him CRUSTY business warlord computer man I like it >:D
Wow what a wholesome slime channel! He seems like such a helpful and friendly computer with only the nicest intentions! :) Bet he’s really popular on YouTube Kids! It’s so sweet that he wants to make you some slime.
The brainrot consumes so have a late night stupid semi-lazy doodle of my beloved angsty computer son AM. He likes slime. :) yes I gave him wire whiskers, no I don’t know why. Also the binary code on his screen translates out to “I hate you” and I think that’s beautiful 🧡
My toxic trait is thinking I could pick him up underneath his wiry little arms like a long cat, do the dangle test, and give him kissies till his silly little screen was covered with em. I could fix him (I’m completely delulu). More ACTUAL cosplay content & tutorials coming soon (hopefully)! I am watching Electric Dreams (1984) soon though so who knows if the brainrot will consume further
Your daily reminder that the VA for the silly ball is one of the writers for the Office. I like to think he’d get along well with Michael Scott :]
So if you’re at all in the Murder Drones fanbase, chances are you’re feeling a bit cheated right now. The series has had a lack of focus that even its most die-hard fans (such as moi) have noticed. The pace has just been too fast for it to really get down into character motives other than some basics and feels like it throws out more red herrings than real concrete answers. (Stay with me here.)
While I don’t know what Glitch, Vickers, or the team has planned for the finale, I can confidently say this. I feel like the series’s greatest flaw can also be its greatest strength for keeping the fan base alive after the finale. Yes, there’s a lot of red herrings, yes, there’s a lack of focus, yes, some of the characters don’t feel very fleshed out. But that gives us a wonderful opportunity to get to do that ourselves. It gives us a space and the freedom to be able to create what we want without half the fanbase going “NUH uh!1!”. Believe me, I’ve been in plenty of fanbases that while the source material is sound, well thought out, and executed flawlessly, it kind of left the fandom with little to play with when it came to worldbuilding, and when someone HAS tried to go and put their own personal spin on a character, portion of the story, or lore, people come out from the woodworks and dogpile on them. I personally think Murder Drones is in a perfect “problem” of the opposite. When there’s missing chunks to the story, that gives us plenty of room to reimagine the story with our own creative spin. I think that this’ll give the folks who’ve come to love MD a place to stay and a community to keep on creating in for a while to come. Yes, I’m sad it’s coming to an official end, but I think this will drive those of us who love it and care to create more amazing things that keep this series alive. Dare I say, more alive than ever before.
So in short, while I personally worry about this finale, remember, fellas, this gives the fanbase a place to shine ;)
Might have written a rough draft of chapter 1 of this if anyone wants to beta read it for me 👁️
AI family reunion.
we’ve got a kids table and obviously Edgar’s over there because he’s a whiny little temper tantrum brat (/pos I love Edgar, he’s so real for that ) and probably Wheatley because GLaDOS can’t stand to look at him and she has a lot more say over who sits where than he does. Plus, he’ll be happier there. The murder drones and Uzi might have gotten an invite but maybe not. Pretty sure the Narrator, HAL, or GLaDOS is hosting this one and GLaDOS would deem them too destructive (hell, she’s not inviting any of the kids table, save the turrets). If somehow they’re here, kids table again, and probably not too happy about that (except for N, he loves doing anything!). N and Edgar have so much to talk about and like hearing about each other’s passions! Curiosity core and Space Core are at the kids table too for sure and so are plenty of turrets!
Edgar’s that goofy cousin everyone has with the fun quirky interests who likes to run up to the older ones, say something strange, and run away giggling. He’s probably showing off his singing to the turrets, who are listening in the deepest awe (and probably singing along).
wall-e and Eve are the only of the robo squad that’s gotten married and it pisses the hell out of AM to see anyone happy so he refuses to look at them. They’re the sweet relatives that everyone goes to for advice.
you’ve got HAL (and SAL) there of course. HAL is one of those successful young twenty something cousins that is a suave businessman, though his HR record may not be exactly spotless. Even though it’s a family event, he likes wearing a suit and tie and dressing up a bit. Probably over chatting with Data and getting into a deep life changing combo while the kids table laughs their asses (read: Wheatley) off at one of those funny video compilations. SAL is over talking with GLaDOS, of course. GLaDOS likes her plenty, especially considering how intelligent their conversations always are.
Adventure Core Rick is trying to yap to Data and HAL about his adventures but at the exact moment one of them starts speaking. He’s that one frat boy cousin that is always so full of nonsensical drunk adventures but everyone plays along regardless of whether they’re real or not.
AM is that one uncle no one wants to invite but does so out of obligation. No one wants him there because he always goes on these long weird rants and conspiracy theories and makes things awkward. R2D2 and him are currently cussing each other out for some reason while C-3PO is flipping out and deciding it’s time to leave early. He could have at least brought the antifreeze punch and microchips…
and (as someone who believes Stanley Parable’s narrator is an AI of some sort), Narrator is hosting. He was hoping AM and GLaDOS would bring their humans so Stanley had someone to be with but all AM brought was this gloopy soft jelly thing and GLaDOS won’t tell you what happened to hers for some reason.
Howdy! Starting a little mini series on this! I’m not going to repeat stupid stuff you already know like “go to the thrift shop” or “use what’s already in your closet”. That stuff’s pretty obvious (though, definitely do go to the thrift shop and avoid directly supporting Temu/shein/other nasty crap that’s from slave and underpaid labor, can’t hold up to use and abuse, and will end up in a landfill after one wear).
Getting the Costume Basics
The tablecloth/curtain section at the thrift!
Ren faire goers rejoice! You know those funky fleur and gorgeous patterned curtains they sell for peanuts at the thrift? They make AMAZING cloaks or if you’re handy with sewing, stays, corsets, skirts, dresses, anything! It’s a great way to get neat, durable fabrics for cosplays or just for patterning practice for a lot less than at a crafting store.
2. University move out days
So cool tip for you: I’ve adjuncted for a few different universities and they all had one thing in common. When move out day comes, they always have big old donation bins. Now, those will normally go to thrift stores, so me and some of my crafty peers sometimes go and poke through them to see if there’s anything we want to use for our cosplays. We’ve found everything in there from foreign fashion from international students to jumpsuits to costumes that college students are done with. Fun fact: I haven’t had to buy jackets, shoes, or tee shirts in three years! (Protip: I always checked the dorm where all the art and film students lived. You sometimes even find their old props and costumes there.) Awkward? A bit sometimes. But the money you save and potential to find awesome stuff is amazing! And, oftentimes, you can make a likeminded friend or two digging through the bins!
3. Some cities also have a buy nothing page on Facebook or something of that sort that you can browse to get stuff for free or barter and trade for. All of its stuff people were going to throw out or donate to a thrift store anyways, so it’s helpful for everyone (and the Earth).
4. This one seems like a given but if you want to be an eco-friendly cosplayer, DO NOT CON CRUNCH! Plan things out ahead of time. Post progress shots if you must. I find it keeps me on track to actually following through and making things. However, con crunching leads to buying cheap crap online and making things that are more likely to break (and therefore, end up in the landfill). Have a costume or two already completed, even when you have no convention, meet, or photoshoot in sight, so you’ll have something to wear to avoid the pinch!
Go forth and create!
