1 year ago. That was the last time you talked to Charles after you broke up. He put you through so much pain and you cut all the contact with him not to get hurt again. You stopped following him on social media, blocked his number and stopped watching his races. You keep telling everyone that you’re fine even if it’s not the truth.

This was the first notification you saw this morning on your phone. You looked at the pictures and saw Charles and her holding each other and leo and you couldn’t help but feel hurt at the reminder that you once were this girl. You were tempted to text Charles and that’s what you did.
Was all you sent to him. You got ready and headed to your work. While walking you bumped into someone much taller than you. "Sorry it’s my fault I wasn’t looking" you apologise before looking at the stranger’s face and meeting those eyes the ones that made you fall in love and broke your heart. Charles. The picture of him holding her played nonstop in your mind and you wanted to throw up.
You immediately walked away before Charles could say anything and noticed a girl walking past you and his way. Alexandra. She glanced at you before going to her boyfriend. Your work day was extremely exhausting and when you came back home you showered before ordering a pizza and watching a random tv show.
Your phone buzzed with a message and you looked at it realising that it was a text from charles.
The text said then, a dm on instagram from Alexandra popped up on your screen and you read it.
You were nearly shocked by it but then remember how girls tended to be overprotective when they were with Charles. You didn’t want to answer her directly, instead you posted a picture of you on your couch.
It was clearly directed to Alexandra. Charles liked your post clearly not understanding the real meaning.
A few days after, you were at a bar waiting for Charles. He asked you to talk to try and become friends again. You saw him from afar and smiled at him. When he smiled back with his dimples full on display, you could swear that you saw your heart jumping out of your chest.
"Hi" he said sitting in front of you. "Hi" you said back smiling at him. "How are you? How’s it going with Alexandra?" He hesitated before answering. "I’m not that good but Alexandra's helping me keeping my head up so yeah things are good between us." You smile softly. "You deserve happiness Charles…I hope on day I’ll find it to." He smiled at you sadly. "She’ll be happy to meet you y’know" he said attempting to lighten the mood. "I’ll be happy to see you more too." He leaned a bit closer. "We…we can’t Charles you have a girlfriend" you say before storming away.
You got to your house and decided to make an instagram post to clarify to everyone that it wasn’t really over between you and Charles for you that the pain was still here.
Charles phone buzzed with a notification. He looked down at it and opened it to see a picture of you crying with mascara staining your cheeks.
Once he read it he realised that your story wasn’t going to end like that. That another chapter could change everything.

each team in f1 has two drivers who each year fight each other in races with one champion in the end who gets a trophy and glory. this year is the 75th year and it's a big event for the f1 comunity and all of this happen every 25 years. all the f1 community (drivers, teams, fans...) has one enemy, the fia. the interviewers enjoy the drama between drivers and ask questions to make them suffer.
now...
in the hunger games each district has two tributes who every year are forced to fight for one victor who gets eternal glory. this year is 2025 and it is a quarter quell that happens...every 25 years yes exactly. all of the panem population has one enemy, the capitol. the capitol population loves to watch the tributes suffer in the games.
so....this year is a formula 1 quarter quell which means that the capitol (the fia) will absolutely destroy our drivers for one victor (champion). i can't believe i just connected the dots panem is real and it's every weekends on our tv.

Charles' POV
I was on my boat in the Monaco harbour with a glass of a drink wich i didn't remember the name of in my hand. The last few weeks complitely destroyed me. Failed races, shitty strategies, Ferrari's mistakes and my break up with Max.
Yes the fans are right, Max and I dated and it lasted for a few years, since 2021 but things took another turn when I got my first home race win. One girl that I knew from Monaco invited me to eat something together out of pure friendship. I assured Max that it wasn't a date but he didn't want to believe me.
He accused me of cheating and we ended things after a bad fight. The day after, he was gone. All of his things were gone from my place and the house felt empty just like my heart.
Wich brings us back to me, on my boat, watching the sun set while drinking. I looked up and saw a plane flying in the sky. Who knows where it's heading, I thought. What I didn't know, was that on that plane, there was someone that I knew really well.
Max's POV
I was looking out of the plane window, the emotions of my break up with Charles were still fresh in my mind. The sight of the other happy couples next to me made me feel sick. Why couldn't I feel all of this? Why did I push my true love away? I put on my headphones and watched a movie to distract myself from the golden eyes that had control over my heart.
I looked at my phone and texted Daniel to tell him that I'll reach Australia at nearly 4am. I drifted off on the plane wondering what could've happened if I didn't break up with Charles.

I reached Daniel's house in the middle of the night and he greeted me with one of his bright smiles. "Hey mate! How ya doing?"
"Hey Daniel. I'm doing kinda good. You?"
He shrugged "Like always...Miss racing a bit but I'm happy here."
He guided me to the guest room. Daniel went back to sleep but I couldn't bring myself to close my eyes. My mind started to wonder as I started at the ceeling. I wished I was in Charles' bed in Monaco now, cuddling or doing more pleasant things.
I loved how he used to call me 'his champ' after I got a podium and how he rewarded me. I missed being inside of him. I felt my pants getting tighter and the memory but I ignored it. No one could get me off like Charles did.
Charles' POV
I leaned over my boat's railing contemplating to or not to jump. After all I had nothing left. Ferrari was doing shit, I'll never get a championship, the fans of other teams hated me and Max had left me.
He was my everything, my lover, my soulmate, the loss of my life. I had let him slip out of my grip. I didn't even fight to make him stay. That's why i started to get bad results in races but i hope that summer brak will help me.
I took my phone and called Carlos, my teammate, needing some advice.
"Hola Charles. How are you mate?"
"Hi Carlos. Can I talk to you? I'm not feeling really good."
"What's wrong? Is it still about Max?" Carlos asked, a hint of concern in his voice.
"Yeah....I just can't get over him Carlos. I still love him! But he clearly has moved on."
"I'm sorry for you mate, you always seemed so happy at races. I thought you had moved on."
"Well y'know...I tend to laugh whenever I'm sad so when i stare at the crash it actually works."
"I don't know what to say mate...you should talk to him. I think he misses you too I mean have you seen his results? Even Lando is doing better than him." Carlos said trying to make me feel better.
"Yeah...maybe I'll do it."
Max's POV
I woke up the next morning feeling like shit. I needed Charles back, now. I packed my bags, apologised to Daniel for not even staying one day but he told me that it was okay. He knew how much I missed Charles and he really wanted us to get back together. He proposed me to fly with his jet. When I reached Nice, I drove to Monaco as quick as possible. I knocked at Charles' appartment door and when I didn't have an answer, I guessed that he was on his boat.
I rushed to the harbour and that's when I saw him. He was standing there, shirtless with bags under his eyes. His body was sweaty and glistening under the sun. He looked like a vision from heaven. His brown hair were messed up and his eyes widened when he saw me.
God I loved him.
I walked over to him. "Hi"
Charles' POV
I turned around and saw Max. He was standing there with his perfect face and perfect hair. I was a mess compared to him.
"Hi" I answered.
We stood there awkwardly before Max spoke up.
"I....Are you going somewhere?" he asked pointing to my boat.
"Yeah I was going out for a swim."
He nodded
"You can come too if you want" I said immediately regretting it. He was probably going to say no. God why was I so nervous?
About one hour later, I was sitting on the edge of my boat with my feet over the water.
Max's POV
I sighed while looking at Charles' back facing me. I wanted to reach out to him, to talk to him, to hold him but I couldn't. Not after all I did to him.
After a while, I finally gathered my courage and sat down next to him. I waited a few seconds before speaking.
"The view is nice"
Charles hummed before doing something that caught me off guard. He leaned his head on my shoulder. HIS FUCKING HEAD ON MY SHOULDER! A small smile made it's way on my face. I wrapped an arm around his shoulder and looked down at him to find his big golden eyes already starring into mine.
"Hi" I whispered.
He smiled sweetly up at me and that made my brain short-circuit. I leaned down slowly and brought my lips to his soft ones feeling alive after many months spent away from him.
Charles' POV
My eyes widened when Max kissed me. Does he still love me? All my doubts vanished when his tongue ran along my bottom lip. I melted onto him closing my eyes and opening my mouth for his tongue.
Max smirked as he pulled back pleased to have taken a reaction out of me. I looked up at him admiring the sight of his lightly pink cheeks. He looked angelic. Wait....Max didn't love me anymore....That's why he broke up with me...Right?
I pushed him away and got up putting distance between us.
"Charles?" Max called out with a frown.
"Fuck off Max! I know that you're playing with me!"
Max's POV
I looked at Charles with wide eyes. "What? No I'm not playing with you!"
"Really? Because from what i remember you broke up with me without any reason!"
"I never wanted to hurt you Charles"
I reached out tentatively to cup Charles' cheek.
"Leave me Max! I used to say you were the best? Well you were the worst! As sick as it sounds I loved you first!" He yelled.
"I was a dick it is what it is a habit to kick the age old curse. I don't know why I did it. It haunts me Charles. I never wanted to hurt you. I was just jealous that you spent time with Alexandra. I was such an idiot for leaving you I'm sorry."
"I love you Max"
I reached out and hugged him holding him tightly against my body. I kissed his temple gently before whispering.
"I love you, I'm sorry"
