“There is a luxury in self-reproach. When we blame ourselves, we feel that no one else has a right to blame us. It is the confession, not the priest, that gives us absolution.”

The Picture of Dorian Gray | Oscar Wilde

I was always hungry for love. Just once, I wanted to know what it was like to get my fill of it — to be fed so much love I couldn't take any more. Just once.

If you genuinely enjoy being alone, do you ever wonder if it is an inherent part of your character or if it stems from feeling inescapably lonely in the first place until you taught yourself to enjoy the peace and happiness one can find in solitude? what if the reason you now prefer & choose solitude at every turn is because you were a very lonely child, or teenager, not by your own choice, and that’s how you learnt to thrive and grow, so you no longer know if you can do that around people? There might also be an element of personal pride, an unconscious “you can’t fire me I quit” point when your brain decided to switch your feelings about solitude from distress to relief. I often find myself defending my love of being alone, to people who worry that I can’t possibly be happy to live in an isolated house in the woods; I insist that I do! I really do specifically enjoy the isolated factor and chose to live here because of it, but then I wonder how to differentiate an ingrained love of solitude from an acquired ability to thrive off unchosen loneliness, to learn from it and be nourished by it; to what extent it might be a form of contentment built on a bedrock of resignation.

I am very sure about some of these (anyone who has ever met me or looked at my blog knows how hard it was to restrain myself from putting Oscar Wilde first) but I’d love to hear other people’s opinions if anyone has some!

Special thanks to @amapofyourstars for helping me sort these people even though she had little to no interest in any of their lives.

Time passes you by...

Slowly and all at once as vivid as the shining amber lights on the wet concrete at night.

Walking on that burnt orange stone, home, home.

I look to the past and it's forgotten.

I'm standing outside in the driving rain, it ushers me away.

Pressed up to the window panes, fogging up sodden glass.

Looking at a stranger's past.

That little room with its sandy paint and coffee curtains.

Lights snapped on and Nora Jones sings out of the stereo.

It's soft and milky.

Clouding and brewing softly.

Time.

Past is present and present is future.

And it's all already passed me by.

I flip through shining photos and those familiar faces smile at the ghosts behind the long, lost cameras.

Choppy hair and sharply slit winds softened by a flash decades ago.

Moments so dear, a sun so golden, people lost to ticking clocks, they forgot long ago.

And they kept it all down.

Those shining cards with their little people.

The faces you see in the warm ripples of a bath.

No malice, just ghosts.

Ghosts of happy days and burnt orange stones.

Do you remember their names?

Did they ever learn mine?

I walk and I know I'm already gone.

Just a face in a photo.

I stand faded in smooth cards on Christmases and birthday nights in orange lights.

Smiling and laughing.

Running on tiles, on wood, on carpet, sand and stone.

I stand young and small.

I doubt I could even tell you why these photos exist now.

But they did.

Those people breathed that long lost air and time thawed once the flash faded.

We carry on.

Until the next photo's taken

you were my world and now i can’t imagine you in it

funny how memories can become so distant

you were once the love of my life

now you’re just someone i knew once upon a time

every now and then i see you in my dreams

it doesn’t hurt; i don’t cry or wish you were here

i hope you’re happy. i hope you’ve found someone who makes all your problems disappear

sometimes love doesn’t last

sometimes our first isn’t our last

sometimes there’s better to come

and one day we’ll once again believe in love

— i’m drunk and this is what i want u to know

“No one has ever made you feel this way, how I am loving you now: remember, remember because nobody else remembers. I remember, I do. Imagine for example, how we tread the pavements with your leather shoes, when we cross the bridge when you suddenly hum a song you have heard from nearby folks. It is quite so lovely how you do it. You do it in your own way, that I am moonstruck, as if the moonbeam is coming from your voice, that spontaneous illumination with your movements, your hands that are vital to your nails– transparent, colorless, like spring water in the brooks. If it is with you, these memories, arise, gently opening my heart to take you in– and you will eat me whole, because I feel so small, so small that I am melting, melting and caramelized. We are here, we are here, and nothing has escaped between us, as if the earth and sky meets halfway to give us space: the momentary pause of this liquid ether we hold in our hands, the palpitation in your chest, that is, how I know, time stand still.”

Awesome Underappreciated Musicals You Should Listen Too

Yeah I like the big four Tumblr musicals but these are just a few shows you should consider listening to next time you’re looking for something new.

1.) Tuck Everlasting

Based on the book of the same name Tuck Everlasting is about a girl named Winnie Foster discovering the immortal Tuck family. The father of the family is played by Michael Park who you might recognize as Larry Murphy from Dear Evan Hansen. It’s a good show with a few catchy songs. If you’ve read the book before you’ll know what to expect since it’s a pretty faithful adaptation.

2.) Dog Fight

Composed by Pasek and Paul of The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen fame this is a romance about a young man about to be shipped off to the Vietnam War and how he spends his last few nights in America where he meets Rose under unfortunate circumstances. Annaleigh Ashford (Legally Blonde) is also in the show and featured in the titular song.

3.) Carrie the Musical (Revival)

The original Carrie musical was Broadway’s biggest disaster until Spider-Man came along leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of theater junkies. Luckily the revival is much better on every level and, in my opinion, is the best Carrie adaptation to date. Christy Altomare and Derek Klena, both of Anastasia fame, play Sue Snell and Tommy Ross, the well meaning popular kids who try to help social outcast Carrie White (Molly Ranson)

4.) Galavant

A medieval musical tv show with two seasons and Timothy Omundson? This show is both funny and it has a general 2-3 songs per episode starring mostly non professional singers with the exception of a few including Weird Al as a singing monk. There’s nothing much else to say except, I believe in you Tad Cooper.

5.) Bring It On

One of Lin Manuel Miranda’s first productions, as seen by the lack of his presence in a cheerleader uniform, this musical is both creative and funny. Head cheerleader and popular girl Campbell is suddenly transferred her Senior year to Jackson highschool. Suspecting there’s something going on one she finds out the new girl, Eva might have something to do with it.

6.) Jasper in Deadland/Hadestown

These two are put together because they’re both modern retellings of the Orpheus and Eurydice tale. Hadestown is more of a jazz/blues song style while Jasper in Deadland is more a rock musical. Both have their own interpretations of the story that any mythology buff will see and love.

And like there’s a million more that I don’t have enough space to mention but it’s okay to listen to musicals that aren’t Hamilton, Be More Chill, Dear Evan Hansen or Heathers.

Honorable Mentions:

Bat Boy the Musical, Shrek, Hunchback of Notre Dame, 35 mm, Next to Normal, Repo! The Genetic Opera, The Devil’s Carnival, Anastasia, In the Heights, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog, The Count of Monte Cristo and many, many more.

When you think of Persephone you think of the lost girl who was tricked by the lord of the underworld. You don't think of the girl who knew what the pomegranate was for but ate it anyway The girl with lust in her eyes and a freedom in her soul The girl trapped by the expectation of her heritage She could stay but she knew her mother would burn the world down in order to bring her back So she rose from a throne of bones and death and returned life to the world 6 long months spend in the sun dreaming of the dark and the cold beneath the earth taking it's life force with her. Dreaming of him and the night spent whispering everything and nothing to each other on the banks of the river styx's Collecting souls like she once collected flowers in full bloom.

i am terrified that twenty years from now i will still look back and feel an ache when i remember the boy who broke my heart all those years ago. and i’ll somehow still miss you. but for you, i’ll probably be just one of the many girls you dated when you were young. you’ll look back and only remember a foggy memory of me; my face, a blurry vision in your mind.

— i think i’ll miss you forever
