spn writers took this a bit too seriously
every character’s first line should be an introduction to who they are as a person
even if you only wrote one sentence on a really bad day, that’s still one sentence more than you had yesterday
exercise restraint when using swear words and extra punctuation in order for them to pack a punch when you do use them
if your characters have to kiss to show they’re in love, then they’re not in love
make every scene interesting (or make every scene your favorite scene), otherwise your readers will be just as bored as you
if you’re stuck on a scene, delete the last line you wrote and go in a different direction, or leave in brackets as placeholders
don’t compare your first draft to published books that could be anywhere from 3rd to 103rd drafts
i promise you the story you want to tell can fit into 100k words or less
sometimes the book isn’t working because it’s not ready to be written or you’re not ready to write it yet; let it marinate for a bit so the idea can develop as you become a better writer
a story written in chronological order takes a lot more discipline and is usually easier to understand than a story written with flashbacks
This scene in 12x10 gives me feels after looking at their expressions. Remember, in the previous episode Cas killed Bille. So, Dean’s mad at Cas because of the “cosmic consequences” and Cas is being petty (cause Dean deserves it). Sam isn’t mad at anyone and is trying to be the bridge. Cas went to go meet up with Ishim and Dean stormed in.
Dean: red, Sam: green, Cas: blue, Ishim: yellow
They walk in right after Ishim insulted Cas and these are their expressions while they have no context.
When Ishim is listing off the fact that Cas has no home, Cas looks kind of sad, a little pissed but not too bad.
But when he insults the Winchesters he looks down, realizing he has nothing but them. Think about only having two friends in the world, only two people to turn to, only two people who you can rely on, now imagine one of them is mad at you. He’s down to only being able to rely on one person.
Dean was calm and quiet until Ishim brought him and Sam into this. He got mad and emotional but is at least defending Cas too.
Cas says it’s alright and to calm down (again, Dean was insulting him earlier), but Sam gets defensive and tries to help Cas. For the first time, getting mad.
But Cas tells him to stop talking too. Sam looks at Cas sadly, he’s upset Cas is letting himself be insulted.
The next shot we can see Dean is not very mad but Sam is pissed. Ishim continues to dis Cas while he sits there with an empty look in his eyes.
When Ishim calls Cas his old friend, Sam looks down, sad. Almost like he’s thinking about Cas in a friendship where Cas serves one person and that person keeping insulting Cas and bringing up his mistakes.
When Ishim leaves we can see Sam looking at Cas for an explanation, notice how Sam’s eyes look sad (I dare you to tell me Jared is a bad actor), he wants Cas to never talk to Ishim again but he knows he can’t tell Cas what to do, so he just tells him what he thinks of Ishim to hopefully persuade him.
Notice when Dean asks Cas about Ishim being an asshole, he’s judging Cas for letting someone talk to him like he’s made horrible mistakes and tries to take away his worth. Kind of like what Dean was doing earlier in the episode.
When Cas says he’ll put up with it Sam looks a little sad, but he looks guilty when Cas says “put up with all of it”, to me it looks like he feels guilty for making Cas put up with Dean.
Dean just looks upset and confused. Like he’s thrown off that Cas won’t listen to him or answer his questions. And he’s even more confused that Cas is letting this guy walk all over him.
BuT gEt ThIs-
Ishim did nothing but treat Cas the way Dean treats him, so why is Dean upset? I think he is so used to Cas taking whatever Dean throws at him and not doing anything that now he’s confused that Cas isn’t doing what he says this episode. But Cas will take whatever Ishim insults him with and do nothing, Dean feels like Cas is disrespecting him and is getting mad that he’s being treated with more aggression than Ishim.
This whole scene, Dean, the riotous man, was mad at Cas and insulted him and Sam, the boy with the demon blood, was trying to stand up for him and never tried to hurt him. It’s odd that Cas likes Dean better but I think It’s because He doesn’t have a real example of what human relationships are supposed to be like. Ishim called him friend (clearly sarcastically but whatever) and spent the scene insulting him. To him, Dean is treating him how a friend should, so now he’s distancing himself from everyone because if this is friendship, he doesn’t want it.

No, coz, I rather weep.
