Boys never wear pants! When a boy is going through his toddler years, he is never allowed to wear pants. Boys wear smart shorts when attending public events, but don’t were pants until they’re about 8 years old. The tradition of young boys wearing shorts, dates all the way back to the 16th century. This tradition is called the practice of breeching, which is when a toddler grows out of wearing traditional gowns & moves onto wearing breeches.

As British Etiquette Expert William Hanson explained, “Trousers are for older boys & men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent markers that that we have in England. A pair of trousers on a young boy is considered middle class —quite suburban. And no self-respecting aristo or royal would be considered suburban. The usual custom is that a boy graduated to trousers around 8 years old.”

When on a Royal Tour, it is extremely rare to see a royal wearing black as part of their fashion plan. Each royal, must carry a black outfit while traveling outside of the country, in case of an emergency like a family member dying. The black outfit being packed is helpful so that when they arrive back in England, they are dressed appropriately. Outside of a death, wearing black is a major fashion rarity for men. The color is mostly worn on Remembrance Day or in a men’s tux.

Military Uniforms are the most common & customary outfit worn by the men & women of the British Royal Family. They are worn at the most formal of events like Trooping of the Color & Weddings. This has been a tradition since the 19th Century & Her Royal Highness Anne The Princess Royal is the first royal woman to dress in a military uniform since Queen Elizabeth I in 1588.

Examples of Military Uniform Events:

Weddings: 

1. Prince William (2011) - Tunic of the Colonel of the Irish Guard, one of two Irish infantry regiments in the British Army. The buttons on William’s tunic were arranged in groups of four to show the Irish Guard as the fourth of the Foot Guards regiments to be established. Over his tunic, William wore his garter sash, garter star, his pilot’s wings (to represent his service in the Royal Air Force), & a Golden Jubilee medal.

2. Prince Harry (2018) - A Single Breasted Frockcoat of the Blues & Royals, a a cavalry regiment & the second most senior regiment in the British Army. Harry wore a major’s uniform instead of a general’s uniform, as Harry is the Captain General of the Royal Marines. The now Duke had to seek approval from the Queen herself for permission to wear the uniform. On his chest, Harry wore pilot’s wings, which represent his time serving in the Army Air Corps. Harry’s trousers, were made from blue and black wool barathea & featured red panelling, a leather strap, & a buckle below the boot traditionally worn when on horseback.

Denim: A non-preferred but not forbidden piece of clothing.

Denim is not seen being worn often by British royal men or women, as its a go-to item when attending events or just being out in public. When choosing to be in a more casual outfit, royals typically go trousers & khaki pants. Days spent in the English countryside are always in a relaxed but polished dress code like Wax Jackets, Tweed Flat Hats, or Wool Coats. Denim is fine, if royals are just walking the grounds of the different estates, like for example if they go walking the dogs for their daily walks. Denim is now typically worn in private at home settings.

It is a rule in most militaries (Australia, Colombian Navy, Finland, India, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, Mexico, Nepal, Norway, Pakistan, Royal Life Guards of Denmark, Serbia, South Korea, Sweden, Syria, Turkey, & United States of America: Most of these countries will let the men grow a mustache that is neatly kept but a beard is only allowed to be grown with special permission for health/religion reasons), the mean must be cleaned shaven. With the British Military, as long as the mens facial hair is neat & tidy they are allowed to have facial hair like beards, sideburns, & mustaches. Prince Phillip & Prince Harry, both grew out their facial hair while in service. Queen Elizabeth is not a fan & intensely dislikes facial hair, expecting royal men to remove it sooner than later.

𝒞𝑜𝓁𝑜𝓇𝓈

You don’t typically see the British Royal Family wearing bright out there colors except for the Queen. When not at a very formal event, the family is generally wearing muted down colors, mostly in a palette of crisp whites, navy blues, or pale grey. Morning Coats are in either black or charcoal color & trousers must be grey but have a checked or striped pattern. Turndown collar shirts must be white or pastel & can be worn with a grey or buff colored waistcoat. Ties must be grey but can be in lighter colors.

Men do follow a dress code for certain types of days. When being out in a more casual setting, royals typically go trouser, cardigans, blazers, polo shirts, button down shirts, & khaki pants. 

Days spent in the English countryside are always in a relaxed but polished dress code like Wax Jackets, Tweed Flat Hats, or Wool Coats. 

For a Morning Dress Day like Christmas, men will wear a Turndown Collar Shirt, a Tie, a Waistcoat, a Cutaway Tailcoat, & Striped Trousers. A Morning Coat is a single breasted coat with a single button closure & peaked lapel. Turndown Collar Shirts, can be replaced with a single-cuffed shirt worn with a detachable wing collar & a waistcoat. Accessories include top hats, pocket squares, & gloves.  

For evening formal events, men will wear tuxedo suits.

Each of the royal men have a personal style of their own, that is worked into their everyday wear. These are called Small Accents. For Prince William, it’s his Wellington Boots, for Prince Harry it’s his Persol Sunglasses, & for Prince Charles its locally made attire.

With being the Queen, she needs to be able to stand out in the crowd incase something bad does happen. Her bright colors also lightened up the mood/day with anyone she meets or for anyone who sees her.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has kept the tradition of the Wearing of Hats alive. At Formal Engagements such as Weddings, Christenings, The Trooping of Color, & other engagements, women must wear a hat or a fascinator. Though when 6 P.M rolls around, all hats are traded in for Tiaras.

To wear a Tiara for a Formal Night Event (or Wedding), a women (either marrying in or is getting married to an outside) must married. A women wearing a tiara, signifies their relationship status & let’s other men know they are married. A Tiara is a sign of love & the loss of innocence to marriage. A Family Tiara (Example: Diana’s Lover’s Knot Tiara when by Kate) means that the women is now wearing the groom’s jewelry, as a married women is expected to do & means that she has left her family, & has joined a new one. Diana The Princess of Wales, was the last royal bridge to stick to wearing family jewelry, as she had worn her family tiara (The Spencer Tiara) for her wedding to His Royal Highness Prince Charles The Prince of Wales in 1981. 

𝒞𝓊𝓇𝓇𝑒𝓃𝓉 𝑅𝓊𝓁𝑒

A Tiara can now be worn before 6 P.M, because a tiara is considered formal attire. This rules has now been changed for the Royal Weddings, which a bride can wear a tiara during the day for her wedding. A tiara is worn at night for formal occasions like Black Tie Receptions, State Dinners, Holiday Dinners, etc. For example, when Megan the Duchess of Sussex attended a Black Tie Reception in Fiji, she could have worn a tiara but did not wear one for the formal event.

When placing a tiara on a women’s head, follow these instructions:

♕ Place the Thumb on the Middle of the Chin & the Index Finger in the Gap between the Eyebrows

♕ Move the Fingers up until the Thumb ends up where the Index Finger was

♕ This is where the Tiara must sit on top of the Women’s Head.

When the Queen attends engagements of her own, she has to shake hands with the people she meets. The Queen wears her gloves to prevent germs! The gloves are made by the royal glove maker, the color of the gloves are either black or white (depending on the outfit), & the gloves are either of cotton or nylon material.

This is in the rare case that a family member has died, when they arrived back to England from wherever they have traveled, they are dressed in appropriate fashion. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II learned this lesson the hard way. In 1952, when Her Majesty’s father His Majesty George VI The King passed away. Her Majesty & His Royal Highness The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh, were in Kenya when the sad news was delivered to then young Princess Elizabeth. The Queen sadly did not have a black outfit with her, so she was forced to stay seated on the plane until an employee could deliver a black outfit for her to wear.

Royal Women must only wear either a pale pink polish or a clear polish, to keep her nails looking beautiful. The Duchess of Cambridge has broken this rule before but used her toes! The Duchess was seen with a red polish on her toes!

Women of the Royal Family, will carry a handbag with her when she does not want to shake hands with whoever she is meeting. The public is not allowed to touch any member of the Royal Family, unless that member makes a move to show they want to hug or shake hands. The handbag is a signal that the women is too occupied to shake hands or hug. Handbags are traditionally carried in the left hand.

𝒮𝒾𝑔𝓃𝒶𝓁𝓈

The Queen will carry a handbag with her wherever she goes but this is for a reason. She uses to quietly send signals to the staff around her. When The Queen wants to leave dinner, she sets her bag on top of the table, letting not only staff but other eaters know that dinner will be over in 5 minutes. When The Queen is in the middle of a boring conversation, she will place her bag on the floor, letting her lady-in-waiting know that she would like to move on.

When Diana was a member of the royal family, she used her clutch as a slip-up bag. This means, that whenever she would step-up out of cars, that the clutch would be used to shield any view the public could get of her cleavage.

We have seen The Duchess of Cambridge, where them just a few times with some of her more casual attire.

If a women wears heels to an engagement or official event, there are rules when it comes to picking the right pair of shoes to wear. The Rule for Heels is that the heels must be six inches or under, so that the women is not wobbling around when walking & that the women must not appear too tall for people to notice.

When wearing a dress, it’s common for a women’s legs to be showing. For the British Royal Women, showing leg is okay but it needs to be in a modest fashion. When showing legs in a dress or skirt, women are expected to wear pantyhose or tights for all public outings. 

This rule has only been broken twice by the Duchess of Sussex, when she did not wear pantyhose during her November Engagement photos & when she attended Hamilton in London with her husband. She quickly has switched her style to wearing from skipping the tights to making sure she wears them.

Everyone remembers the famous Marilyn Monroe picture with the white dress floating up around her. Well that is why this specific rule is enforced for all dresses of the women of the British Royal Family. 

𝒟𝓇𝑒𝓈𝓈 𝐻𝒶𝒸𝓀

For the dresses of the the women of the Royal Family, dresses have been hacked! With each dress, little weights are sewn into the hemlines of the dress. This helps prevents skirts from flying up when a really heavy breeze decides to blow around.

Besides having the weights sewn into the hemlines of dresses & skirts, the length of a dress or skirt should always be appropriate. The length of a dress or a skirt, should always be around knee length, which is always 3 or 4 inches above the knee. Besides the length, dresses must not be sleeveless.

Some of the women though, have begun to not only wear dresses & skirts, but have begun to incorporate Jeans, Business Pants, & for some engagements Sports Pants. Queen Elizabeth doesn’t prefer pants so she sticks with dresses & skirts. Jeans are only allowed at the most casual events though like if the women will be outside all day.

The British Royal Family & other royal families around the world are known for their state tours to other countries. When traveling to other countries, women will show respect to that country but not only doing engagements, but by wearing fashion created by designers from that country. Whether it’s a brooch, a full outfit, just accessories, colors, for following the fashion rules of that country (Recent Example: head scarf wore in Pakistan), it’s a respectful gesture.

For engagements & events, Women of the Royal Family typically have the same fashion: blazers, cardigans, trousers, & dresses/skirts. Denim is typically not seen in Royal Fashion (Mentioned Above in Modernized Fashion) of the women. Denim is typically worn only for private life like being at home or being out in public without the press knowing. Again, The Duchess of Sussex has broken out of the fashion protocol but not only wearing jeans like other royal women, but including denim tops with her jeans in a double denim fashion.

When styling an outfit, women will typically wear a fabric that does wrinkle & crease easily like Linen & Silk. Heavier fabrics like tweed & wool are typically chosen to wear because they are more durable.

The hair & makeup of the British Royal women, should always look effortless, natural, & near. Royals will never have loud hair colors or shocking updos. In The Duchess of Cambridge, we are always see a change in hairstyle but it’s always looking neat, whether it’s a Parted Blow Out,  Big Curls, An Updo like a Ponytail or Bun, Half Up Half Down, or Bangs.

The Rule of Makeup should always be neat & natural. The example of neat makeup is the Duchess of Cambridge. With the Duchess always has a darker eye but the rest of the face is kept nude & natural.

Fur has always been a huge controversy in fashion whether the women was a famous actress, a common every day girl out in public, or a duchess in the royal family. During the 14th century, King Edward III of England declared that no one could wear fur. The Royal Family today, has not worn a ton of fur following that law. It has though soon up on the occasional coat or hat on a few of the women of the British Royal Family.

Hey y’all. I know I have been completely silent on this account. I have been slowly updating biographies of the family, retagging posts, & trying to organize my account. Also my personal life outside of social media, has been an up & down rollercoaster of emotions these past few months. With being back at my job, currently in the final few weeks of my 2nd summer college semester (I did a summer semester in 2019), slowly rebuilding bridges in relationships with friends & family, & just dealing with my mental health, I have been so freaking exhausted. I have been trying to catch up on my social media but there are times I need to pull away. I will keep working on this account to re-do it, organize it, & have it to where my account makes me super happy. It will be slow steps coming back so if you start noticing small changes, I’m here. I was accepted into my first ever job y’all! I work in the school I grew up going to (the school is pre-k through 8th grade: I attended for 5th through 8th grade) & now that I’m an alumni, I am working in the after school program! Each grade is divided up & has 1 or 2 staff members that helps them with homework, passes out snack, & entertains the kids whether it’s taking them outside to play after homework & snack or letting them do arts & crafts! I’m in charge of 2nd & 3rd grade, but I have covered for the girls of Kindergarten & 1st grade. My kiddos are so great at work & I absolutely adore them! I’m currently on holiday break for 2 weeks from work until the school goes back for the new year! I did get my first ever paycheck too!

My family is doing well & everyone is thriving! I got my first job & first paycheck, I got back into baking (my number 1 hobby besides social media), my cousin & her boyfriend are due in 4 weeks with their first born son, my cousin & I go back to college on January 13th, my brother & his girlfriend go back to school on January 6th, my brother & his girlfriend both got into their dream colleges, my dad started his own business & is loving it (He now works 2 jobs: his day job & his own business), I got a ton of money & gift cards from family for gifts (plus my paycheck from my job) so now I’m finally able to start paying for my own stuff, & just so much more is coming for my family in the future!

𝑀𝓎 𝟤𝟢𝟤𝟢 𝒫𝓁𝒶𝓃

2019 was honestly a good year but was also a dangerously dark year (I haven’t had a dark year since 2012 & 2014) for me. 2020 is my year of flourishing in my college career, my new job, fixing relationships with friends & family that can be fixed, throwing away relationships that I know can never be fixed with toxic family & friends, working harder on my social media (when I have time between work, school, & keeping my own personal life organized), & just focusing on me. I already sat down with my mom & we came up with a plan for the rest of my years at community college so I know what to do when I go to get my bachelor’s at a 4 year university, I will be practicing for my driver’s license, working on losing weight with my mom, watching my family & friends flourish in their current/future careers & lives, figuring out a beauty routine (skin & hair care & makeup), & just seeing where opportunities in 2020 can take me when I work hard & put in my potential.

The Tiara is a small minor tiara. It features large scroll elements arranged across a geometric band of diamonds (The Halo Tiara has a total of 1,000 diamonds) & maintains all the characteristics of the Art Deco movement of design that started in 1925. The gems are of Geometric shape, in what’s described as a baton shape, topped by round diamonds that punctuate the points between the scrolls along the top. The scrolls have an almost wave-like shape on one side giving the piece a sense of movement. They are each covered in round diamonds and edged with a line of specially cut tapered square and rectangular gems. The triple line of round diamonds at the bottom complete the piece. The largest diamond—a round brilliant—highlights the top center of design.

The Tiara was made in 1923 from a necklace The Queen Mother received from her husband His Majesty George VI The King. Elizabeth decided she’d rather dismantle it and reuse the gems elsewhere. Only six months after she received it, Garrard broke up the necklace and used the diamonds and pearls to create this tiara. The Tiara is a delicate diamond tiara of fanned motifs crowned by floating diamond arches and studded with two pearls at the base and a central top pearl.
