FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 24, 2019 Contact: Dayton Young, press@fightforthefuture.org, (508) 368-3026
Before gamers descend on Activision-Blizzard’s annual conference, BlizzCon, to protest their censorship of political speech and free expression, they are planning an online day of action. On October 29, activists & gamers will launch an all-out campaign to demand game developers & BlizzCon sponsors take a stand and state that they will not participate in authoritarian censorship. It’s a way for everyone to protest, even if they can’t show up outside BlizzCon.
Info about the online day of action is here: https://www.gamersforfreedom.com/#online
GamersForFreedom.com includes a scorecard to keep track of which companies have publicly pledged to not censor players the way Blizzard did, and which companies may already be caving to pressure from authoritarian governments. Companies including Epic Games and Immutable have made statements confirming they support free expression. In a statement to The Verge, an Epic spokesperson said that “Epic supports everyone’s right to express their views on politics and human rights. We wouldn’t ban or punish a Fortnite player or content creator for speaking on these topics.”
Three days before the BlizzCon protests, gamers will storm the internet to demand the same courage from others in the industry, using the #GamersForFreedom hashtag.
“Many people have reached out saying they want to do more, but cannot make it to the protests in Anaheim. Now, they can. We’re calling on every gamer to tweet and email their favorite developers, pros, and event sponsors. We’re calling on artists to send us art of their favorite characters supporting the protest. We’re calling on sponsors to pull out. And most of all, we’re calling on game developers to speak out in solidarity,” said Dayton Young, Product Director at Fight for the Future, (pronouns he/him). “Game developers have been mysteriously silent, despite the blowback from BlizzCon’s censorship being the talk of the industry. Silence is complicity, and they need to see that this isn’t just going to go away.”
Meanwhile, with their social media overrun by #FreeHongKong comments, Blizzard broke 19 days of silence to announced their schedule Tuesday, with a significant portion of panel programming marked as “Coming Soon!” only days from the event. Current sponsors of the event include Facebook, T-Mobile, Coca Cola, Intel, Nvidia, Samsung, Cisco, HyperX, Corsair, MSI, & ESPN.
Protest organizing has only intensified after Blizzard issued a statement where it attempted to quell backlash by reducing its punishment of Hong Kong-based professional gamer Blitzchung, but doubled down on it’s absurd policy that bans all forms of political speech and free expression.
Fight for the Future is calling for the protests to be nonviolent and creative, encouraging participants to show up with umbrellas, in relevant costumes, and with signs and banners focused on free expression for all. The group is crowdfunding to support the protests.
“Decisions about how to moderate online speech are some of the most important decisions of our generation, and have profound implications for the future of humanity. Companies should not be making these decisions under pressure from ANY government, whether it’s China, the US, or the UK,” said Evan Greer, deputy director of Fight for the Future (pronouns: she/her), “Blizzard’s attempt to quell this controversy is cowardly and it’s only going to backfire. This is not just about Blitzchung or Hong Kong –– they need to make a clear commitment to not act as the speech police on behalf of governments in general. A blanket ban on all political speech is inherently at odds with basic free expression. It’s taking sides with the status quo, and those who wish to suppress free speech. How you determine what is “political” is a political decision in and of itself.”
“Blizzard, and other companies who are engaging in censorship on behalf of an authoritarian government, are not going to get away with it,” she added. “They have no idea what kind of Internet shitstorm they’ve unleashed. We’re going to make an example out of them to make sure that all companies know that throwing human rights and free expression under the bus to make some extra money will not be tolerated.”
Fight for the Future is coordinating with gamers and activists in a Discord channel and across social media, where game fans from around the world have been voicing their outrage at Blizzard and planning their own creative protests for BlizzCon. More updates to come.

More than 1,000 firefighters, EMTs, and other emergency workers have signed an open letter that launched this week
Amid outcry over Verizon’s throttling of Internet service used by a fire department battling the worst wildfire in California history, more than 1,000 firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, 911 dispatchers, and other emergency workers have signed an open letter calling on Congress to pass the Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to reverse the FCC’s repeal of net neutrality.
See the open letter here: FirstRespondersForNetNeutrality.com
“Access to reliable, high-quality broadband is essential for our work,” the letter, which was just launched this week, reads. “We routinely place ourselves in dangerous situations to assist others and save lives. But since the Federal Communications Commission repealed net neutrality rules and other key protections in December 2017, the communication services we rely on to do our jobs are no longer meaningfully protected from being arbitrarily slowed, blocked, or otherwise degraded by Internet service providers.”
It continues, “In response, we are joining with millions of businesses, veterans, and Internet users in asking Congress to use their Congressional Review Act (CRA) powers to restore the strong net neutrality rules and other consumer protections that were lost when the FCC voted to repeal its 2015 Open Internet Order.”
Many first responders also included personalized comments with their open letter signature. Here are some of the comments below:
“Currently serving in armed forces and away from California. It is distressing seeing citizens and friends not receiving the best possible emergency services due to ISP throttling.” –Louis G., EMT in Santa Barbara California
“My department uses Verizon for emergency services and cannot afford to be throttled.” –Paul S., firefighter in Santa Ana, California
“Our call paging system relies on private ISPs to relay information from 911 dispatchers to ambulances — it is unconscionable for corporations to endanger public safety for the sake of profit.” –Corey S., paramedic in San Diego
“EMTs rely on data to receive pages, vital paperwork necessary for patient care, and to help locate calls outside of our service area. Throttling speeds can delay care and cost lives.” –Larry T., EMT in Little Rock Arkansas
The open letter was just launched this week with support from Fight for the Future, a digital rights organization fighting for net neutrality and an open Internet. Many more signers are expected to join in the coming weeks.

I’ve been meaning to share this work of my characters Crystal and Astra for quite some time. These were done in 2018 but I touched them up recently. Crystal admittedly needs to be redrawn because her anatomy is wonky. 😅 🔹 https://www.instagram.com/p/CHwnsAbDJac/?igshid=sd77ojkmiohp

A number of well liked web companies and high profile individuals have banded together to back a crowdfunding effort launched by digital rights group Fight for the Future. Ant-Man and the Wasp star Evangeline Lilly, legendary guitarist Tom Morello, Tron CEO Justin Sun, author Cory Doctorow, and EDM hero Bassnectar are teaming up with companies like Postmates, Namecheap, and Private Internet Access matching Internet users’ donations to raise money for an epic final push for net neutrality as the deadline approaches for Congress to reverse the FCC’s repeal of open Internet protections.
See the crowdfunding page here: DonateForNetNeutrality.com
Organizers hope to raise $100,000 to fund mass online protests, crowdfunded ad buys, and strategic in-district organizing pushing for House members to support the Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to restore net neutrality before Congress adjourns at the end of the year. The full list of “Internet defenders” who are matching grassroots donations 100%, includes: Bassnectar, Cory Doctorow, Tom Morello, Evangeline Lilly, Private Internet Access, Justin Sun, AnchorFree, iFixit, Lookfar, Namecheap, Pornhub, Postmates, Startpage, Bittorrent, and Tron.
“These folks are taking on the telecom lobby machine and fighting for a free, open, and uncensored Internet,” said Tom Morello, “Net neutrality is the free speech fight of this generation and time is running out. It’s time for the Internet to rise up again.”
“This is not a partisan issue, the battle for the net is a fight for our most basic freedoms. People from across the entire political spectrum can agree that we don’t want anyone to control or manipulate what we see and do on the Internet,” added actress Evangeline Lilly (Lost, Ant-Man and the Wasp, The Hobbit).
“Given my deep belief in an open and decentralized internet, I support Donatefornetneutrality.com and urge others to do the same in this critical moment where Congress can still act in favor of net neutrality,” said Justin Sun, founder and CEO of TRON. “When the internet is free and open, it fosters innovation that benefits not just a few, but all of us. It’s our responsibility to protect these core values and push our community towards the cause.”
“Net neutrality is not dead yet. Not even close,” said Evan Greer, deputy director of Fight for the Future, “But time is running out on our best chance to get Congress to save the open Internet and give Ajit Pai the worst day of his political career. Comcast and AT&T’s lobbyists are doing everything they can to make sure Congress adjourns without addressing this. We have to make it something they can’t ignore.”

Might try this idea!
click this link
draw whomever you get
don’t worry about making it super-accurate, just focus on the characteristic parts of the face and have fun
the outcome might not look like the ref, but it will be different and more varied than faces you draw out of your head, an dprobably pretty rad on its own right!
feel free to reblog with your drawing, if you want!
Last semester, I took a Digital Imaging class, which had me experiment with different ways of making moving pictures and art. One of those ways involved taking an artwork and making it into a Plotagraph. Here's the first one I made (I made 3 in total). Hope you enjoy. 😊⠀ 🔹⠀ By the way, if you want to Google what a Plotagraph is, go to Plotaverse.com. That's the new URL for the online resource.
Here’s Cath from @gloopcomic! I drew this for the gloop contest. I was thinking about doing more with the background, though this is what I got right now. I hope you enjoy. 😊 Go check out the comic! 🖤
