Yesterday was my birthday and I wanted to draw something special. It's a redraw of something I drew a couple years ago. I raced the clock but couldn't get it done before midnight, so here it is today. Hope you enjoy! š
Reblogging because this is really good advice!
Hi Jenny, I was curious and looking for advice. I graduated from LCAD just last year, but I'm still having a lot of trouble achieving a more natural look to my digital art and linework. (I took Vargo's digital painting class, but my linework usually looks like stairsteps instead of smooth). Your work is always very lovely, smooth, and natural looking, is it okay if I ask what you do to achieve it? Or what program/tablet do you prefer to use?
Hi there, thanks for the kind words! First off I want to make a disclaimer for everyone here at the top: these are my own thoughts and opinions based on how I personally work & perceive my work. This advice is not for everyone, if itās not for you thatās totally cool, everyone has their own path!As for your question this is a really difficult one to answer. There is no program or brush that helps with what you are trying to achieve. All the drawings I do are done in photoshop on a Wacom Cintiq (sometimes an iPad) and each drawing uses a variety of the Kyle brushes. I understand the frustration of not being taught how to clean digital line work or even to be able to sketch digitally but the best way to think of it is if you are inking on paper and to treat it the same way- difference is there is the safety net of the Cntrl Z hah. I also was never taught how to sketch or draw in any program so I was self taught, even through college. I had to just practice constantly until I was able to achieve the line quality that I was after.Ā
Here are some great tips I have gotten over the years:
-The line is the essence of what you are drawing, itās more than just the contour of the form or an identifiable path; it is the flow and movement in which the drawing is given life
-Try not to make mindless lines, every line should have itās purpose so do it thoughtfully. This means being thoughtful of your silhouettes, straight against curves, so on & so forth.
-Try not to lift your pencil off of the paper so much, if you want to avoid theĀ āhairy lineāĀ
-Be aware if you are using your shoulder/ elbow movement to draw or if you are tensing up & only using your wrist. This breaks fluidity in your body thus also breaking the fluidity of the drawing.
-Be confident in your lines- it shows!
-Less is more
Iām sorry there isnāt a definitive answer for this question but I hope these tips help. In the end it really just took me a lot of practice, self study & self discipline. Donāt give up & just keep practicing! <3
We're a quarter of the way into the Fall semester and October is just around the corner! š± I've been busy, working on a few art projects, but I got in some quick sketches here and there. Hope you enjoy! More artwork to come soon. ššā
Happy anniversary Namesake! Thank you for being an inspiration to me to develop my own webcomic. (Which I hope I can share more about soon lol š )

My "Meet The Artist" page is done! I've been wanting to make one of these since the beginning of this year, as I saw most of the artists I follow make one, so I'm hopping on the bandwagon kinda late. But it was still fun to do! The reason why I wanted to make this was to share more about me. It came to me, as I saw others being made, that I can sometimes forget that there's a person behind the art, and I enjoyed looking at & reading what other artists posted about themselves. I hope you guys don't forget either. Another fact about me: my favorite thing to draw is made-up creatures. That's why I chose and stuck with my name "Crystal the Creature Creator" for years; since 2011. There's quite a bit behind the name actually...it's a story for another day maybe? I hope y'all enjoy learning more about me! Zoom in to see the details on my drawings. :)
Happy New Year all! š Hereās my last post of 2018: my #YearofColour using the @YearofColour app. Not surprised by the amount of blues in my feed. š š¹ #YearofColor #YearofColour2018 #YearofColor2018 #color #art #artist #artistsoninstagram #artistsofinstagram #artistsontumblr https://www.instagram.com/p/BsHlH3Zh_GT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=etr16i5w0kuy

So pretty š
Based on my black and white coloring thread on Twitter, someone asked me if there was also types of inking and⦠kinda? Hereās a little study I made. Disclaimer - These are my personal categories, nothing really official.
Here's a preview of the comic idea that I mentioned the other day! What you're seeing is the working title, a couple of the characters, and the tagline for the story. A tagline is really just a super short summary. š¹ As I mentioned before, I've been working on writing out the summary and main plot points of the story for the past few months now. I'm aiming to be done with that by the end of next week so I can use it for my next project in my Storyboarding class, which involves creating a storyboard (and more) from an original story. I'm excited to be using my ideas for a class project; it's my favorite part of any of my art classes really. š¹ This is all a work-in-progress right now, so I hope you guys enjoy what I have to share so far. š š¹ #art #artsy #instaart #DailyArt #ArtoftheDay #artwork #originalart #originalartwork #originalcharacter #digitalart #digital #digitalpainting #creative #digitalartist #photoshop #illustrator #digitaldrawing #conceptart #characterdesign #comic #comicart #comicartist #comicbookart #comicbookartist #comicart #instaartist #artistsofinstagram #artistsoninstagram #artist #CrystaltheCC
Hello fellow bloggers of Tumblr! Today, I've (obviously) made myself this Tumblr page, and revived my once dead Blogspot (or Blogger) page. I will only be posting artwork of mine on these blogs, and I'm also on Instagram, posting pics of my art and my life. If you wish to follow me on these 3 platfroms, I am Crystal_the_CC. See ya on the flip side! š
