🦇 My 30 Favorite Batfam Fics of 2024 🦇

I’m continuing my annual tradition of sharing some of my favorite fics that came out in the past year (you can see last year’s list here). This is just a way for me to show my love and appreciation for the many amazing artists/writers who keep the fandom alive. If you read any of these fics, please make sure to leave some kudos and comments! And there are so many amazing fics I wasn’t able to include, so I encourage you to show some appreciation to your own favorites!

All of these fics were completed in 2024. I only do one fic per author, but definitely check out all of these authors’ other works. Also, most of these feature tim, because he is my favorite. Now, without further ado…

Brother of the Fucking Year by @aceofdivinechlorophyll (26.4k, jason-centric, fluff and crack, jason makes plans to chaotically meet and bond with his siblings… as red hood) (will probably make more sense if you read the first part of the series first, which is also funny and great)

Join the Club by @cephalog0d (26.9k, jason & tim & dick, fluff and humor and light angst, where tim and jason meet at school, tim is dick’s biggest fan, and jason thinks it would be funny to make them meet) (this was filled for me for FTH but I would have included this fic regardless, it’s great)

What Christmas Means To Me by @taralaurel (29.9k, tim & dick & jason & bruce, fluff and angst, tim meets bruce when he is dressed as santa and asks for his parents to be home for Christmas, the batfam takes this as a challenge)

Screaming In The Dark (While We All Play Our Part) by @yourwakingnightmares (32.9k, dick & jason & tim & damian, heavy angst with a hopeful ending, the batboys are captives of a very evil batman, they escape and go to the justice league for help) (I also rec the sequel, which is ongoing and great) *READ THE TAGS

the loneliness in worth by @yeeyee123 (56.1k, tim & damian, angst with a happy ending and humor, tim is supposed to be training in paris, he instead ends up with the league of assassins and decides he’s gonna help damian get to his father)

Northern Attitude (I Was Raised on Little Light) by @theskeptileptic (103.2k, tim-centric, heavy angst with a happy ending, tim is bruce’s biological son, jack drake has been punishing him his whole life for this, the batfam just want tim in their life) (technically not finished, but I didn’t put it in the WIP section as there is only one chapter left and it’s honestly at a satisfying stopping point) *READ THE TAGS, there is graphic child abuse

Mine by @millytsworld (18k, jason & dick, angst with a happy ending, dick is the right hand man to an infamous mob boss (bruce) and decides jason is his new little brother, jason completely misunderstands dick’s intentions) *READ THE TAGS

Losing Time by hatlessmule (40.3k, tim-centric, angst (hopefully with a happy ending), tim finds himself in a universe where he doesn’t exist, the batfam want to know who this flighty kid is)

Care and Keeping and Kryptonite by @mild-and-hammered (96.9k, superbat ft. the bat kids, fluff and light angst, mild-mannered reporter clark is injured and has to stay with playboy bruce wayne and neither know the other’s secret identity, meanwhile bruce’s kids start meddling to bring the two closer together)

Todays mood;

Got day drunk with friends for birthday party

Had a great time singing beyonce and Rihanna while drunk and mixing drinks (spolier: this is BAD.)

Started to feel sick

Started to drink water and stopped drinking the devils piss, aka tequila

Got sick in the sink

Cried

Cleaned up my own vomit

Cried part two

Went to bed

Woke up to friend getting sick in her sleep and all over the couch, floor and possibly on other friends

Other friends started to feel queasy from smell

I was now, regrettably, sober enough to feel better but drunk enough to offer to clean it

I cleaned it

Like a BOSS

Didnt get dick again

Previous friend (see getting sick on couch point) came back and felt bad i was cleaning it up after taking a shower. I reassured her it was fine. It was.

I cleaned the floor in the sitting room (tonights sleeping arrangements) and the floor in th3 hallway, the stairs and the bathroom. Unnecessarily in the bathroom, bevause it was just on the floor not the sink, the toilet and the bath. Stop cleaning things freak.

Went back into the sitting room. Friend still felt sick. Got her a glass of water, watched her drink it, and then got her another.

Overall, i am a cleaner drunk. Not to be mistaken with a CLEAN drunk, no i make a mess but then i feel bad and clean everything in a mile radius.

midnight visitor

will never get over Pidge and Shiro having a nice little stroll down a river with a sloth that makes cute noises and just wants to help them, surrounded by green foresrty and lovely animals that sway in the wind and wondering "i wonder if Lance and Hunk are having a nice as time as us" and then it IMMEDIATLY cuts to Hunk and Lance being attacked and screaming all the while Hunk gets literally spat out of the blue lion. It's comedic humour at best.

Having a crush on your friend is so awful because u want to tell them so badly but you also dont want to ruin whatever you have you know???

And like im useless at feelings and judging how someone else feels but my sister told me that the banter we have is flirting???? And i didn't know?? Are all wlw this useless at the job or is it me?

Anyway, i think i might tell my friend about the crush because i shouldn't be a bitch (my sisters words not mine) and i think, THINK, they might like my back so we'll see how it goes???

i never noticed that at Birdpersons and Tammy's wedding Tammy says "I am yours until YOUR death" and BirdPerson says "I am yours until MY death". Very subtle foreshadowing, nice

GUESS WHAT

I always thought it would be the other way around with Keith being Kon and Lance being Tim but after reading yj98 and like old superboy comics wheres hes basically like "please please please be my friend!" I see the vision i see the energy i see the vibe ‼🗣

Control Freak: Superboy, who got your vote? Superboy: I voted for Rob. He's my best friend, plus he's smart and inventive, so I think he's like, the future. Control Freak: Robin, the broody one. Who do you think deserves to get out of here, huh? *ding* Superboy? Why Superboy? Robin: I just don't want to be stuck here for eternity with Superboy. Superboy: Aww~ Thanks, man. Wait, what?!

Keith's got a teddy. He's had it since he was eleven. He found it on the side of the road, and despite Shiro's protests, took it home with him. He fixed it up, patched it where there were holes and gave it at least three washes in soft detergant. Shiro wasn't impressed with it in the beginning but he liked it in the end. It was a hippo. Keith called it Mr. Hippo. He took it with him everywhere.

He got made fun of for it in the Garrison, his roommate saw it and told his friends, but Keith didn't care. Mr Hippo was his friend and he was going everywhere with him, no matter what. At sixteen years old, he still slept with the teddy and was unashamed of it. He couldn't sleep without it.

At seventeen years old, Keith flew away in a magical space lion and they had zero expectations of going back. Mr. Hippo was still in the shack. It was the main reason why he couldn't sleep on the castle, despite what Lance wanted to believe, and the main reason why he went to the training room and then passed out. If he couldn't sleep without it, then he could pass out without it.

Throughout the whole ordeal with Voltron, Keith didn't miss things on earth. He was exactly where he wanted to be, a pilot and in space and he had Shiro back. Everything was exactly where he wanted to be, where he was supposed to be. Keith wasn't made for life on Earth, he was made for the stars and now that he was here, he would never leave. But he did think about Mr. Hippo. He even thought about asking Lance to knit him a plushie to look like the hippo but he shut that down immediatly, unwilling to talk about his secret teddy that would no doubt be used to humanise him.

Shiro most likely wouldn't make fun of him for it, he probably would have smiled a little bitterly and reminisce on the life they used to have.

When Keith got back to earth, he visited the shack where he stayed for a year. Everything was the exact same as how he left it, conspiracy board up and string tied to it. Shiro's clothes that he arrived in lays on the ground in the makeshift bedroom, forgotten and deserving that position. He didn't dare to open the fridge, afraid of whatever would have formed in his oat milk. On Keith's bed, however, is something he could never forget.

Mr. Hippo.

A little dusty, but otherwise the same. Keith smiled softly and reached out to hold it gently, feeling something in him settle when he felt the familiar change of fabric on the back where he patched it with some pink curtains Shiro was throwing out. His stitching was bad then, and it had to be replaced many times over the years, but Mr. Hippo stayed the same. He stayed the same plushie Keith found on the side of the road, abandoned and left to rot in the dirt.

Keith brought him back to the Atlas where they were staying and Shiro did smile when he saw it. Lance didn't make fun of him for it when he brought it into the bed later on, and Keith slept better than he ever did.
