i only want to be with you , hiyori tomoe

you remember the first time when hiyori asked you for a favour, a favour you never expected.

it’s been days, weeks, months ever since you started to “date” hiyori

but why you? was a burning question that never got answered. you weren’t the most beloved neither were you notorious, you and hiyori were polar opposites. he is bright, fun, warm as if he was a sun. in contrast you were quiet, reserved, kept to yourself.

ever since you needed to keep up with the act of dating hiyori has been hell and also amusing, “hell” being that hiyori almost always brings you to shopping sprees. hours and hours of walking all over the mall felt like years and years of aimlessly going in circles, even worse you have to carry his many bags of purchased items that could be stuffed with every single item in each and every store. at that point your legs were literally killing you, all you could think about was until you got home to finally rest.

“fake dating hiyori is quite burdensome…” you thought to yourself, you were almost at your limit when hiyori told you,

“let’s go to oneeee more store! i promise there will be something amazing just for you!”

you heaved out a sigh, you felt like a parent following your child as he explores every crook and crevice of the mall. if you looked more closely you swore you could see a bright sun and clouds floating above hiyori’s head while you had dull rainy clouds, funnily enough almost matching the impressions of both of you. you continued to sulk as you followed hiyori’s lead, going inside a small shop filled with tiny charms, jewellery and keychains. you were in your own world as hiyori suddenly came up to you holding two keychains, one black cat and one white cat. he started to gently shake it as light bell sounds started to chime from the bell collars both keychains had.

“let’s get these, they’re matching” he brightly told you while grinning ear to ear.

it was the very first times your feelings started to blossom, he was cute in a sense. despite being all gloomy minutes ago. you nodded at him, the more you imaged his grin getting engraved in your mind, the more you start to curl your lips slighty, his grin being contagious.

after purchasing the keychains, it was the end of the day already. the sun was setting slowly and before you were going to pass hiyori all his bags he took the keychains and showed it to you.

“which one do you want?” he asked.

you took a few seconds hesitating and randomly picking one, which just so happens to be the black cat. you saw hiyori eyes light up a little, like how a birthday candle would start flickering with tiny flames, then blowing off. he suddenly took the millions of shopping bags from you and before he made his departure,

“i wanted you to choose the black one” he cheekily said as turned to face you, meters away from you before he scurried away. you took a few seconds to process,

“what was that?” you said to yourself, in astonishment.

you started to hold in a chuckle, you cannot help but start to laugh more. maybe being with hiyori was not so bad.

when you got back home and showered and changed. keeping and organising everything, you saw the keychain. you held onto it, remembering the small but significant interaction you had, it stuck to you because it made your day, it felt special, you felt hiyori did not just choose it out of the blue and it was carefully and personally picked. you found yourself smiling at the keychain and stopped out of embarrassment, remembering that it’s just fake dating, maybe you should not let yourself dive in too deep. you quickly attached the keychain to your school bag and went to bed straight away. you didn’t need to think about something that brought you a wave of emotions instantly.

but even when you were trying to distract and block out your thoughts, you could not stop thinking about him just because a short sentence he said and a keychain he gave.

the next day when you were walking to school alone, enjoying the peace and quiet until you heard footsteps running behind you, much to your dismay (or pleasure) hiyori caught up to you, greeting you and trying to make small talk with you. you noticed the keychain he bought yesterday, attached to his bag, around the same place as you attached it too. you started to feel warm but ignored it and reminding yourself “it’s not real”.

“why are you suddenly all so clingy now, aren’t we faking our relationship?” you asked trying to sound firm but you made it sound more timid.

“aw why are you suddenly so cold now? don’t think i never noticed how your eyes widened when i showed you the keychains!”

you didn’t even notice you reacted so evidently when hiyori showed you the keychains, how observant isn’t he?

you ignored his response and mumbled under your breath “you’re funny”

although you never expected this to happen, you started to enjoy being around hiyori and allowed yourself to get closer to him. but you made sure to keep reminding yourself that you guys are fake dating not in a relationship, the most that will happen is being close friends you thought, just to help shield away from actually letting your feelings feed into your daydreams.

“why did you want me to choose the black cat for our keychains?” you suddenly asked hiyori when you were hanging out with him in a cafe.

he stopped for a second and then looked at you “because you remind me of a black cat (name).” he cheerfully said patting your head. you started to feel bashful and looked away as he kept going on and on about his claim, making you feel even more embarrassed.

which was one of the many reason you started to fall harder and harder for him. you liked his company, it felt comforting.

it’s been months since you both have been keeping up the fake relationship, you felt like both of your relationships were flourishing until something happened.

hiyori asked you to meet him at an area, a quiet street, the environment was serene, trees decorated with white jasmine flowers, rose bushes around you were present, it made it more pleasant, no one was around, only you and hiyori.

you saw him waiting near one of the trees and you ran up to him, curious to what was going to happen.

he started to speak, he looked more glum than happy which concerned you a bit. “i’ve been needing to tell you this but i haven’t found the right time, but i think now is the right timing.”

you hold your breath as you predicted what was going to happen.

“since we’ve been holding a fake relationship for months…”

you exactly knew it was about this relationship going on, you cannot help but feel a little heartbroken, you were overthinking things.

“i have to leave the city, for a few reasons regarding to my family”

there was a long silence before he continued,

“we’ve spent a lot of time together and you’re really fun to be around but i think we should end the relationship, i don’t know if you want it to be an actual relationship which i want but i’m not sure if you feel the same,” he started to babble and all you picked up was “end the relationship” and “want an actual relationship”. you stay rooted to the ground eyes widening in surprise and he continued to speak, suddenly stopping and then saying “i’m sorry for giving trouble by asking to fake relationships, you can leave if you want. i know you probably don’t like me” both of you were standing in front of each other, seconds felt like minutes, minutes felt like hours when you were with hiyori, you were still in your train of thoughts he was starting walk away consumed by his own sadness.

the sun started to set as the sky oddly turned to a pinkish red hue, the colour tinted onto hiyori. it was then you were snapped back to reality and before he was out your reach you held onto the sleeve of his shirt, bringing you closer to him

“but i only want to be with you…”

you stared down at your feet starting to feel more timid as you softly whisper.

You frowned. Rei had been somewhat lecturing you for the past half hour. You sat on the edge of the bathroom counter, watching as the vampire slowly wrapped a clean white bandage around your scraped arm.

“I know…” You sighed, looking away from him. “I’m sorry.”

You couldn’t help but huff. About an hour ago, you had taken a nasty fall onto solid concrete after collapsing due to exhaustion. Work was work—and unfortunately, there wasn’t much you could do to escape it. Maybe you’d try to get some more sleep, or maybe you’d force yourself to drink more water. If not for your sake, then for Rei’s.

Your boyfriend cupped your cheek as he stood between your legs, gently kissing your forehead. “Don’t apologize, beloved. Just be more mindful next time, yes?” He whispered against your skin, pecking you once again before pulling away to bandage your other arm.

It was unbelievable how utterly kind and loving he was. Rei had warned you numerous times about the consequences of overworking yourself, and when you hadn’t listened and ultimately collapsed, he still stood here, bandaging you up. “I will. I promise.”

Rei smiled warmly. “I know you will.”

He wrapped your arm with the bandages so expertly, covering your wounds with the white fabric tightly enough to stay on, but not tightly enough to hurt you. You didn’t understand how you got so lucky—having a boyfriend who would always drop everything to help you. You almost felt guilty.

Rei must’ve read your thoughts, taking your hands in his softly once he finished dressing your arms.

“I’ll always be here for you to fall back on, alright? You needn’t worry. I only want you to be safer, my dear.” He smiled, bringing your uncovered hands to his lips, kissing them tenderly. “I love you very much.”

“I love you more, Rei. I’m grateful to have you.” You answered, the man continuing to kiss around your palms, knuckles, and fingers. He let out a breathy chuckle, leaning into you, his face dangerously close to yours.

“I love you most.” He said, simply. “You do so much for me, so let me take care of you once in awhile, sweetheart.”
