When you consider that Stanley was the family disgrace, it makes more sense that they didn't mention him. He stole Stanford's identity for a reason
Highkey one of the funniest parts of Gravity Falls is how obnoxiously close they come to revealing Ford’s existence in the early seasons but never do out of just. Cosmic levels of dumb luck
Episode 1 Stan nearly catches Dipper with the journal and it’s passed off as a gag about Gold Chains for Old Men magazine. In Time Travellers Pig they go back to the Shack 30 years in the past and miss Ford opening the door on them by literal seconds. In bottomless pit Mabel gives him a set of truth teeth that make him incapable of lying and he tells the twins TO THEIR FACES that he regularly commits massive tax fraud and if they had asked him to elaborate he would’ve told them who he was impersonating. In one of the shorts Dipper and Soos find a sentient omniscient mailbox that will answer any question in the universe, and right before they can ask it who wrote the journals Mabel shows it a video of herself snorting gummy worms and it kills itself out of disgust. The entirety of Dreamscaperers is them delving into the depths of Stan’s psyche, going through his memories, all while fighting his brother’s ex-boyfriend and it somehow just. Doesn’t come up. Bill never mentions him. Their grandpa Shermie never said anything. Their parents never said anything. Either the universe was conspiring to cover it up or they are genuinely all that oblivious
Don't you dare. They used to be merged until orange trees> orange fruit> orange color.
It's why we have terms like "red fox," or "red head" when they're usually more orange.
Please don't send us back to the middle ages. I'm on my knees begging. We'll have dumbasses within a few years asking stupid shit like "why is called an orange if it's red or yellow?" Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please.
If you could make a new color what would you name it and how does it sound more real than magenta.
oh oh oh!! I have a really cool fact as part of my answer!!
Okay, so you know how colour is a spectrum, right? Your eyes only REALLY perceive blends of three base colours- red, blue, and green. (Yes, green.) All other colours are blends of these three primaries- red and green make yellow, red and blue make magenta, and blue and green make cyan.
As you mentioned, magenta is a ""fake"" color- this is because colours are made of waves! The waves on the red end of the spectrum are Low Frequency and the waves on the blue end are High Frequency. You'd *think" halfway between both wavelengths would be the result, but that's green, and we already have a colour for green! So to fix this paradox, the line from red to blue becomes a circle and we see magenta instead!
Now again, this spectrum- it looks like this:
And most of the world recognizes the six listed colours as distinct. Which means that we take this blended gradient and add hard lines, like this, to clearly separate them from each other:
BUT, not all societies do this!! There are some whose languages don't *have* different words for "blue" or "green", and as a result, people raised speaking these languages have a REALLY HARD TIME distinguishing between what we recognize as "obviously" either green OR blue.
THEIR colour spectrum looks like this:
Which is correct and valid and makes COMPLETE sense, because we argue about differences in colour all the fucling time- "is this dark blue or dark purple", "is this neon yellow or neon green", and "is this orange or red" are some common examples. Any of those in-betweens could be treated as whole and distinct blocks with distinct boundaries.
And so, I propose this:
We merge orange and red cause i can't be fucking arsed
anyone else live under the assumption that they’re constantly doing something wrong
Parents always say this:
"You're smart. Therefore, it's okay for me to expect more of you."
"You're smart. Therefore, I don't have to care how I explain things to you."
"You're smart. Therefore, it's okay for me to assume that any mistakes you make are intentional."
"You're smart. Therefore, if you say that you struggle with something, it's okay for me to assume that you're just lazy, afraid, lacking confidence, lacking motivation, or any other excuse to dismiss your struggles as fake.
but never this:
"You're smart. Therefore, I will put my authority aside and consider the possibility that you are right and I am wrong.
Like any abusive authority figure, they want you to be smart enough to uphold their authority but not smart enough to challenge their authority.
This. But whenever I see it or experience it, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. Either way, they treat you like another cog in the machine and you're going to be used as an example to keep the wheels turning.
If you leave and try to break the cycle... "Well look at him. There's a reason we don't talk to him much..." You'll be shamed and possibly humiliated.
If you stay and just do as you're told, you're still being abused, but like op said, you're used as an example to keep abusing others
I also forgot that if you cater to abusive family for the rest of your life they will also use you as an “example” for other children, to abuse and shame them into doing as they want… Its like “hey, That relative did it all and managed to do it all, then YOU must do that too.”
Its also kinda weird I guess. To your face they always only say how bad you are and how much you disappoint them, yet at the same time they will compare other relatives to you specifically to make them feel bad and like a disappointment. I will never understand that part of family life.
Rashida Tlaib has set up a petition to send to the White House to recognize and stop the ethnic cleansing and forced displacement happening in Gaza. If you’re a US citizen please sign. I have no illusions that this will change policy, but the public outcry against their actions must continue. We will not be distracted or discouraged from continuing to object to these humans rights violations.
every year I post this meme and every year people get more mad at me than they did the previous year
