[ID: A digitally illustrated short comic of Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia from Critical Role. In the first panel Vax and Vex are children, Vex's hair being braided and Vax's already braided in half up style. Vax smiles at Vex and fiddles with a piece of his hair and Vex smiles with her eyes closed. Above them text reads "When we were children it was rare our mother had the energy to braid our hair." The second panel shows Vex and Vax as adults sat next to Trinket. Vax is braiding Vex's hair while Vex pets Trinket. Text above them reads "It made it feel precious, a way of connecting to her". End description.]
Projecting a little onto the twins 💙🖤
I hope that in season two of tlovm they don’t fly over just how depressed vax’ildan was at the beginning of vox machina’s journey. He was so down and his only purpose was revenge against the dragons. But not in a percy’s-anger-towards-the-briarwoods kind of way; but in a I-feel-this-hollowness-inside-me and I need to fill it with something, anything, kind of way.
He gets rejected by keyleth, argues with grog and he still doesn’t have the best relationship with percy. He doesn’t feel as connected with vox machina as his sister does. He asks her what they’re even doing with them. The times he talks to scanlan are the times in which he wonders how he goes about his day being so happy with the numerous shitty circumstances they find themselves into.
Then his sister dies, and he can’t accept that. So he offers his life, because of course he does. However, he finds himself changed by the raven queen, and in the beginning he’s just so scared and confused by her and himself. Life didn’t go at all how he planned.
But slowly, very slowly, he makes progress.
And when he’s finally happy, it’s just so rewarding.
(Which makes his “death” even more sad…)
