The Series Ahsoka Is Coming Out Soon, And In Light Of The Recent Comments By Ashley Eckstein...

... I figured I'd also point out that people hated Ahsoka.

Every complaint you've heard about Rey? It had been hurled at Ahsoka about 7 years prior.

“Oh, she’s fighting Grievous and she’s only, like 13?! That’s so OP!”

“She feels like a Mary Sue written for a prequel based fan fiction.”

“Oh, she disobeyed an order from Yularen on Ryloth?! She’s so snippy!”

“Ugh, I hate her and her stupid voice!”

“She’s always pointing out stuff other characters have missed, like she’s so perfect! She's a Mary Sue with an annoying voice and personality.”

And honestly? I remember that period. People despised Ahsoka (and sometimes voiced anger towards Ashley Eckstein too), just like they hated Hayden Christensen, and most Prequel-related content.

But guess what? They weren't the target audience. Said Eckstein in her 2018 book It's Your Universe:

“Ahsoka’s arrival on the scene was met with mixed reactions. She had a big personality and was very snippy. [...] She talked back to Anakin, and some even called her bratty. Critics didn’t quite know what to think, but kids loved her. Finally, girls had another character besides Leia and Padmé to play on the playground — and now there was a lightsaber in their hands.”

They didn't "fix" Ahsoka, as you'll see on some click-baity YouTube thumbnails.

She had a fucking character arc. There was nothing to fix.

The whole point of her character is that she starts out as immature and petulant as Anakin is in Episode II. This forces Anakin himself to grow up, so he can better take care of her.

Eventually, they both mature together... and at some point, Ahsoka surpasses Anakin by learning and implementing the Jedi teachings, while Anakin remains stuck on that first part (no thanks to Palpatine).

Same thing goes for Reva. The character has a goddamn arc.

I'm all for putting a "save the cat" moment to make these characters more likeable (and even when they do, like they did with Rey, then somehow the problem becomes that they're too likeable), but at the same time, I think parts of the fandom should wait and see before prematurely hating on a character (who almost always "just happens" to be female, weird!) to see what story is being told.

writeblr intro my beloved

Hey everyone! This is my intro to the tumblr community. I've been liking and reblogging things in silence for the past few months, but I've always intended to make a formal post to announce myself in some way.

I go by a lot of names, so I don't really have a preference for what I'm called, although I've used my current alias (genevys) for a while now. I'm male, I use any pronouns, and I'm turning 20 soon after this post goes up.

I've suffered with mental health issues over the years, and writing, like for many others, has helped me cope. I enjoy writing and planning with other people in the form of roleplay, but I'm also writing my first fanfiction.

My goal is to one day establish a community based off of a Star Wars universe I've had in the works for a few years, called Rebirth. It's a complete blank slate of the Star Wars franchise with its only canon being the original six movies—the Original and Prequel Trilogies, akin to what Disney did in 2014. The goal with Rebirth is to remain true to the original Star Wars vibe and create a story that people will be interested in writing, and others interested in seeing.

My WIP, the first installation in Rebirth, will be called Revenant of the New Republic. It's an epic tale with themes of death & rebirth and will take place three years after the Battle of Endor. It's recently entered the writing stage, which has given me most of the courage to write this in the first place.

I'm taking inspiration from the EU comic Dark Empire in the writing process, though with heavy alterations and my own twists to it. This includes the return of Palpatine in a way that doesn't undermine Anakin's sacrifice, Luke Skywalker's struggle with the Dark Side and further exploration of his heritage, the introduction of a twelve-year-old deuteragonist who Luke swears to protect, and the New Republic's struggle to balance the creation of a peaceful society with rising threats both new & old.

I'm 100% open to making new friends even if you're not at all interested in the sort of writing I do. I also need to start reading more, so if you've got any suggestions, don't be afraid to reach out for any reason!

So, have you made any friends recently? I'd love to meet them if you could introduce me to them!

I have only one friend, his name is Poot and he's a pink bunny! We spend time together very often and we love each other's company :)

Is anyone going to talk about Tarkin canonically having a relationship with that one stormtrooper because.. that’s pretty gay, methinks.

Benny wasn’t actually caught by the legion because he didn’t put on a helmet, it’s because he laughed at the name of Caesar’s very great friend in Rome

It’s Honestly Just Disappointing To Know That After Over 50 Years, They Finally Used This Old Star

It’s honestly just disappointing to know that after over 50 years, they finally used this old Star Wars concept art and they just turned it into a scary monster. The original painting isn’t an action or horror scene. Luke isn’t scared. The organism is grazing calmly on fungus and doesn’t even have teeth. It’s sad that they couldn’t let a big alien “spider” just be a gentle baby. Expanded universe lore eventually held that the “spiders” were the immature stage of the *trees* on planet dagobah, which was an awesome concept.
