If you’re like me, then you guys love shading your sketches or lineart. Like this:
But if you erase a bit and shade more with black on low opacity it’ll look all wonky so you use the color picker. Or hell you scan or take a photo of a drawing you made on paper. But then this happens if you wanna put color under it!
Oh no! Now I have to set it to multiply to color it in! And then I can’t color in the lineart! :(
Fret not, my dear friends! I found the solution! Go to [Edit] > [Convert brightness to opacity]
And suddenly you have this:
This way you don’t need to set the lineart to multiply and can color it in! It also works perfectly, if you use this nifty little trick on traditional drawings that you scanned.
I hope this helped you guys, because I sure as hell didn’t know about this until yesterday! ♥
hey yall its me the Art Mom™ to help you shade pretty
rule 1: DO NOT SHADE WITH BLACK. EVER. IT NEVER LOOKS GOOD.
red- shade with a slightly darker shade of purple
orange- slightly darker and more saturated shade of red
yellow- i think like..a peach could work but make it a really light peach
green- shade with darker and less saturated shade of blue or teal
blue- shade with purple
purple- a shade thats darker than the purple you’re using and maybe a little pink (MAYBE blue)
pink- darker shade of red
white- a really light lavender or blue..or i guess any really light colour??
black- okay listen dont use pure black to colour anything unless you want to leave it with flat colours because you cant really shade black lol
grey- a slightly darker shade of purple or blue (less saturated)
brown- slightly darker and less saturated shade of purple or red
aaaaand thats all i got lol. let me know if there is anything i should add to this list!!
sorry for any grammar mistakes
long time without a tutorial… I tried to explain my general process of working here, hope someone will find it useful :)

i tried to make a tut on how i draw bodies but it came out as a mix between me trying to make sense of my lazy technique and general art tips??
i get overwhelmed by complex scheming and sketching so i try to sketch with the least lines/shapes possible.
if you find this method too difficult-dont worry. ive had years of practice and ive developed a lot of shortcuts for myself, so this might be like reading the notes of a student who has their unique set of abbreviations.
hope that helps tho??
This is mostly geared towards painting braids, since most tutorials are a complicated formula for sketching a bunch of overlapping lines that miraculously make a braid. I’m a simple person. Blobs are good.
i feel bad for people who use sai but dont know about stabilizer, transparent brushes and clipping groups
Hey! i like how you draw hands, can you do a guide on how you do it???????
I looove drawing hands, but they're as fun to draw as they are difficult 👌👏
Usually when I draw, I don't go for perfect realism/anatomically correct, I mostly follow whatever makes the drawing look good, with exaggerated shapes, sharp angles, etc.
Drawing with references is the best advice I can give you!
When I struggle to draw hands I usually just look at my own hand and try to copy it (I have a small mirror next to my computer to make it easier), it works, but it's not always the best option. If you want to improve quickly, find some pictures and practice by drawing them!
A lot of websites have a built-in timer for studies, here is the one I used for this one for example:
So yeah, practice practice practice! The more you draw, the better you'll get!
NSFW because there will probably be nude refs | this is a side blog to sort all of the art stuff I need | none of it is mine
