I’ve always hated how especially in America we throw around the word friend like it’s kind of meaningless. I hate the idea that a friendship is less meaningful than a romantic relationship or that it has to be less passionate or dedicated. Whether we holds hands or kiss or fuck (all of which I believe can be platonic) or whether we just talk about the art we love and try to make each other laugh some part of myself is staked out for you forever, and I want you as a shared participant in my life. I don’t want to treat each other like distractions or interludes between the *real* relationships in our lives. I want friendships where we both know that even if we didn’t talk for a decade we’d always be welcome to show up at the others door, and I think even for allo nonaro people like me we’d be a lot happier and much more content in ourselves if we understood the real value of platonic relationships and didn’t rush to rank them against whatever other kinds of love we might have in our lives.
It is very important to criticize the “Why does everything have to by gay? Can’t they just be friends?” attitude that homophobes have towards gay characters, but it’s possible to do that without saying things like “This character literally did xyz for the other. Friends wouldn’t do that!” or “But character A says character B is the most important person in their life! There’s no way that’s platonic!” or even things like “Actually, they should have sex with each other instead of being ‘just friends.’” Whatever it is you think that friends can’t do, they can. Friends can think of each other as the most important person in their lives. Friends can go through pain for each other, risk their safety for each other, be physically affectionate, rely on each other, and die for each other. Friends can share beds, kiss, or have sex.
Friendship is not a tier below romance.
anyways tl;dr on that last post it’s like we’ve reached a point where in popular culture the ancient Greeks are remembered for their mythology and literature (and maybe Athenian democracy) while the Romans are remembered for their patriarchal imperialism, despite the fact that both cultures did plenty of both. and the consequence is that we’ve ended up with a bizarre quasi-gender binary where Greek stuff is for people who like mythology and literature and Roman stuff is for people who like patriarchal imperialism
The US State Department under Donald Trump has been accused of instigating what amounts to a travel ban after they suspended the processing of trans Americans’ passport applications. The suspension follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump last week, which mandated federal recognition of only two sexes: male and female. The executive order also maintained that “these sexes are not changeable”, leading to government agencies being forced to apply the policy to all government-issued identification. As such, passport applications where the applicant’s gender is different to their biological sex at birth have not been processed, raising concerns about their access to essential services.

If your conception of socialism stopped developing in the first half of the 20th century I don’t think you’re serious about actual political transformation.
Idk of a single left-wing thinker who hasn’t explicitly talked about the need to develop theories and adapt them to on the ground conditions, and if you are somehow convinced your blorbo who died before decolonization, the rise of neoliberalism, and all the radical transformations since 1955 found the perfect pathway to socialism that will never need to be critiqued or altered you don’t have a political project you have a religion.
Clinging to century old ideological debates and grudges and not incorporating the valid critiques of different traditions is like running into a brick wall head first over and over again and convincing an every shrinking number of your friends that eventually it’ll make a door appear
