It’s June of 1983 in the small village of Hinamizawa. Keiichi Maebara, a kid who recently moved from the big city, spends his days hanging out with his newfound friends. Soon he hears about the local festival they hold every year. With this, mysteries about the villagers and the village itself seem to pop up around Keiichi. Will he be able to understand everything that is happening before it’s too late? Ever since I started watching anime, Higurashi is one that constantly came up as being one of the best and most memorable of the horror genre. And, to its credit, it actually lived up to the hype. Many times I could feel my heart start racing, my mind trying to understand what was going on. To be honest, I was a bit put off at first because of how old it was, but its age and animation due to it actually made the anime even better. A sense of nostalgia was associated with this sort of older style and a lot of moments wouldn’t have had such an impact with newer animation styles. This may be a slight spoiler, but the way the story is set up is very different from what I am personally used to. Instead of a steady linear storyline, the series is actually broken up into several stories, all intertwining in one way or the other. With this production is a sort of double-edged sword. On the one hand, doing this is very original and was done incredibly well. It also gives you set places where you can stop for the night, without having to worry about a cliffhanger. On the other hand, however, a lot of information is thrown at you and, more times than not, the anime sort of forces it upon you to connect two and two together. Alongside that, there are several mysteries that are not revealed in the first season. Some questions are answered, but it only creates further questions. If you are a fan of horror, I would highly recommend Higurashi!
Also, allow me to wish you a happy Halloween! Scare, frighten, and terrify others!
You may call me Yorobu. I doubt anyone will see thus post or even my account but like some demonic force has given me the urge to make a Tumblr.
