nico and leo have severe eating issues in hoh and it is completely overlooked.

two lines i remember vividly-- jason sees nico eating a grape at breakfast and comments that it'll probably be all he'll eat that day. note-- not verbally, but it was a line written from jason's perspective. then, leo in ogygia is told by calypso that he hasn't eaten in two days.

both times this is treated like a joke. both of these characters are canonically underweight. leo's is probably a body type thing, since he's always been described as scrawny outside of these periods and only goes without eating becaude of hyperfixation on his work. but nico? i can't recall him being described as scrawny when he was happy and healthy with bianca. i can assume him being underweight can be attributed directly to his behaviour of not eating.

even if they arent or weren't underweight directly because of this behavior-- it's still NOT OKAY behaviour? and the books still treat it like a JOKE. im so upset i can't do this

Actually, addition to the “Jason spent a whole bunch of time drawing Leo as a grief coping mechanism”-post I made a while ago: after Leo revives Jason, they eventually visit New Rome together, and find out Jason had a foster family of sorts when he was little (since we do know New Rome has a foster system and there’s no way a three year old would’ve been left to his own devices). Jason doesn’t remember them that well so it’s kind of painful for everyone involved but they have happy stories to tell about tiny Jason and a whole bunch of embarrassing toddler pictures.

And Leo is joking like “haha at least you will never see my embarrassing baby pictures” (because they were all lost either in the fire or throughout the many foster homes he visited, at this point he doesn’t have a single picture of his mom and it’s killing him)

But Jason can tell it’s upsetting Leo severely so when they’re alone a while later he asks Leo to tell stories from when he was little, if he wants to. And he does. And he’s glad to be talking about his mom, to keep her memory alive in some way even if it’s not through pictures.

A few days later Jason gives him a picture frame. It’s a sketch of one of the stories Leo told Jason about—tiny Leo laughing with his mom, his hands covered in salsa. And it’s not quite the same, because obviously Jason doesn’t know exactly what Leo looked like when he was that small, but it’s the closest thing he’s had to a family photo in years (Jason did actually briefly meet Esperanza in the underworld, which is a different story, but her part of the sketch is a pretty good likeness for that reason).

Leo is all out of jokes. He just starts weeping on the spot.

god jason x semi-immortal leo

jason is a god who helps sort out affairs between gods. he also had an immortal lover, an immortal phoenix avian

one day, when sorting out issues, he pisses on the god of love. in retaliation, she curses jason’s lover. instead of killing him or taking his immortality, she makes him semi-immortal. what’s worse than the grief of losing your lover? having to experience that grief over and over again. leo will live out a full life before dying and then being reborn all over again, forgetting everything about his former life, including jason. jason has to deal with the grief of losing him all over again, but is never able to stop himself from falling in love all over again. every twenty years after leo passes, he can’t stop himself from returning to the mortal world and searching for the boy with the brilliant smile, beautiful laugh, and wings the color of fire. the only phoenix avian left is the reincarnation of his lover. little things change about leo each life, but those beautiful wings always stay the same, remaining just as beautiful and breathtaking as his lover
