COVAH!!! GOT!!!! IN!!!!!! I'M SCREAMING!!!!

Consider: an au where Spinel and Pearl were left alone in the garden together. They come to get “Pink” back together, as Harlequin Opal. They have a somewhat clingy romance, desperately reaching for the other when they’re separated. But it’s a sweet, innocent love. She refers to herself as “us” and “we” until the end of the movie in this au.

(Design notes: Their arms separate at the shoulder like Opal’s does. Originally I was gonna give her four eyes and two arms but this looked better. And now their arms can twist together like licorice! They have little bells on their shoes so they dingle when they walk.)

A Pearl that was born highly defective due to orders from her owner, who secretly was part of a mixed fusion in her off time. Her defects include: blindness, having four arms,and having slightly longer legs than normal (making her a head taller than the average Pearl).

She was put in a rejuvenation chamber for all her flaws, in hopes that she could be customized by her next owner to be non defective. If not, she would be shattered. 

However, she was left forgotten. As, the rejuvenation chamber was on Earth. And the retreat order was called before she could be retrieved. 

Rose found her about a thousand years after the war, and accidentally activated her, the poor Pearl’s default settings keeping her defective. Over the next thousands of years, the other crystal gems teach her how to be free. 

Rose helps her edit bits of her outfit to make her more comfortable and confident. A bow to push her hair out of her eyes and show off their beauty, a shawl to cover the arms she’d rather not show, and a bell to help her listen to the sound bouncing off the walls so she can judge where she is within buildings (plus it alerts others to keep an out out for the poor Pearl), 

Unsure of a nickname for this little lady.

Lasers and saw blades with sharks on standby! You're right where I want you! And this is goodbye!

In your harlequin opal au, who would Rose take with her instead of pearl?

That's a good question I haven't thought of the concrete answer to yet! I was thinking of a few options:

Jasper was Pink's personal guard and saw her transform into Rose. Pink swore her to secrecy and Jasper obediently fought along side her, not really thinking of if she wanted to fight for Earth or not.

Blue Zircon pieced together the clues Pink leaves in a few files and comes to Earth to confirm her suspicions during the war. She finds Rose and Rose swears her to secrecy. Zircon joins the crystal gems out of wanting to figure out why Pink Diamond rebelled and helps Pink cover her tracks better.

Lapis Lazuli is found by Pink and freed earlier, joining the crystal gems after finding out Pink's secret. She wants to help her savior and slowly falls in love with the Earth. Less trauma. Gets along well with Amethyst.

A lovely Ruby I designed today.

You might be saying, “woah that is not a Ruby. That’s a fusion who named herself Ruby.” But she is just a singular Ruby! 

A “disease” can sweep through kindergartens and erase various bits of coding from the incubating gems. This disease is called permafrost, as it is caused by ice even the hottest temperatures can’t seem to melt. 

This young Ruby’s kindergarten was infected by permafrost, and abandoned early on. However, she was one of the few Rubies who managed to form, the frost erasing the coding for her standard form. And leaving.... this. 

Any gem who erupts plagued with perma frost is generally shattered unless the authority can find use for them. This little lady found use as an entertainer in Blue Diamond’s court. Something to be laughed at and mocked for her odd form. But, it was something to keep her alive.
