“Tch, stop being a coward and fight me, villain!” The hero grunted, their hands bound by ropes behind their back. Their legs also covered with ropes that they struggled to get out of.
“Hmmmm.” The villain started, standing up and walking slowly to where the hero was splayed on the ground. “You shouldn’t speak like that to a person who has full control over your life right now. They could take it any time they wished.”
The hero scoffed, a dirty noise in the air. And, looked up with a glare. “What you gonna do? Kill me with your silly little knife or strangle me to death? Pathetic.”
The villain frowned, and then chuckled. Their expression settling back to a calm one. They bent down to hero’s level. “Well, well, well. Aren’t you being a brat? Do I need to teach you how to talk to me?”
The hero half snorted and half laughed. “Oh, you’re going to teach me manners? The great scary villain? Gods have blessed me.”
The villain sighed. “Hero, the reason you’re here-no, we are here is because of you. You had a plan to kill me. But upon entering my secret hide-out, you find yourself instantly boomed into a trap. How very sad.”
The hero stared at him, speechless, because apparently that was true. They did indeed fall into a trap like a fucking kid who didn't know any better. They should've known about it. Predicted it. But, the bubbling excitement. The thrillness of it all had made their brain go frenzy. Never thinking about the possible obstacles of it all. They stayed silent.
The villain smiled, a mischievous smile. "With that said, I wouldn't mind teaching you some manners. If you don't mind, of course." The hero blushed at the implications, immediately going red in the face.
It was going to be long before they actually got out of that place.

“You know what would get me going?” The hero asked, smiling slightly. “Another fight with you.”
The villain raised their eyebrows. “You’re literally on a bed in a hospital because you didn’t dodge my attack even though I warned you.”
The hero cracked a grin, a little painfully so. “I wanted to let you win for once.”
The villain’s eyes narrowed, they scanned the hero up and down before chuckling lowly. “You know, for someone who’s breathing with the help of an oxygen tank, you sure do have guts to say that.”
“Try me.” The hero replied, smug and a little cocky.
The next time they fought, the villain made sure to show the hero just how much they wanted the hero to “not win.”

The hero's heartbeat sped up, their eyes widening. Their child tapped on their shoulder from behind. "Who is it?"
The villain was looking around, taking a knife out of the knife holder and examining it closely. The hero gulped, they couldn't let their younger one see this. They turned around, and tried to muster up a smile.
"Stay here, okay? Don't make a noise, I've got this. You'll be fine, I promise." The hero said, but the teenager shook their head, not convinced at all. The hero put their hands on the other's one shoulders, and squeezed lightly. "Do you trust me?" They asked. The fourteen-year old nodded their head quickly.
"Of course, I do. But-."
"I'll be cautious, I promise. Just stay here, alright?" The hero questioned, and then threw a glance behind them. The other one nodded hesitantly and hero planted a kiss on their forehead before motioning for their child to go upstairs. The other one followed the hero's instructions and made it upstairs without a noise. The hero turned around.
The villain stood in front of them, inches away. "Oh. Hi, old friend." They murmured, voice low, their mouth stretched into a wide smile. The hero's stomach churned, their heart clenching and unclenching.
The hero stayed silent. The villain took a step forward. "Long time no see, huh?" They asked, their eyes glinting with the same excitement as they did back in their college days, but now, it was different. Everything was different.
The hero scoffed, glancing away, even though not wanting to. "Long time no see, indeed." They replied.
The villain raised their eyebrows. "How have you been?"
The hero frowned, the question making them visibly cringe. How had they been? Really? They were acting so normal, like two old friends meeting each other after a long time. But they weren't friends (or anything more for that matter) anymore, they were enemies. The villain looked at them expectantly for an answer.
"How have I been? Funny you ask that. Because I've been very well, unlike someone else." The hero tilted their head, lips pressed tightly. A challenge in their eyes.
The villain nodded solemnly, their head suddenly bowing down. "Of course not, I've been very well too."
"Is that so?" The hero questioned, taking a step closer. The pang in their chest tightening by every minute passing.
"Yes." The villain sighed. They lifted their head up, and the hero could make out the watery glint that shone from their eyes.
"Well, if you've had enough greeting me, then I advice you leave."
"Not yet. I want to talk to you-" Before the villain could even finish, sirens ran outside the hero's house. The hero's eyes widened. The villain looked at them as if they had betrayed them. The hero stood their confused. Who had called the police? The realization struck them when their child came running down the stairs.
The villain's eyes moved to the fourteen year-old and then back to meet the hero's eyes. It would be another few days before they could finally talk, like the villain wanted to.
The villain took their flee before the alarmed police could catch them.
The villain sauntered towards the hero, a blurring of his vision, his elbows scrapped, and in a second he was on the ground with the hero. The hero groaned, a stream of red blood coming from his mouth. The villain’s hands ached to wiped it away. Kiss him. But, everything in him hurt. He could barely move anymore, the hero in the same condition.
All he could make out was a last breathy, “Thank you,” as his heart rate slowed and his body stilled. The hero shook his head, his eyes filling with tears. He tried to get on his elbows, and crawl a bit closer to the villain.
“No-no…you’re not g-going anywhere. Please.” The hero whispered, his voice hitching. The villain smiled, a withering of lips barely stretching. And, the hero’s heart ached more. Pain.
What followed was the silence, the hardly touching hands, and the shallow breaths. They could not cross the distance between them, for they were far two worlds apart.

The villain groans as the hero puts some ointment on to the wound that currently sits on his forehead. A hiss follows closely. The hero grins. "You shouldn't have been so cocky, earlier. This is the result of it."
"I was only trying to save you, okay?!" The villain cried, his open injury hurting even more. He cursed. His head throbbed with pain. He had no clue why such a small thing could cause so much distress. The hero dabbed more of the liquid, before taking a band-aid and putting it on the spot.
"Yeah, yeah. Sure, big boy. You saved me but got injured yourself." The hero muttered, placing the small box of first-aid back on the table that sat in front of them.
"If only you didn't shove yourself in that bastard's face, I would have stayed calm." The villain said back, sitting up from the bed. His face showed a hint of irritation. and, he scoffed.
"I didn't shove myself in that bastard's face, he shoved himself in my face. And anyway, it wasn't that serious. I could have taken him down with one hit." The hero remarked, appearing quite proud of himself.
"Okay. Okay. Enough of that dead man. Let's have dinner, yeah? I'm starving, darling." The villain replied, placing a small kiss on the hero's cheek, and standing up. The hero followed, as he back-hugged the villain and kissed his exposed neck.

“You…I thought…” The villain’s voice trailed off, leaving a roaring silence filled with fear. His ears ringed with the blaring noise of police cars all around him. The hero’s back faced to him, unwavering. Unwilling. He swallowed the lump that had formed in an attempt to stop the tears that threatened to spill from his eyes. The hero turned around, alarmed. His face one of a horror.
“I-I…don’t know how they got to know about our location. I swear-…” The hero whispered, moving towards the villain that was bent over in shock. The villain looked confused. The hero’s head shook violently, bending down before the villain. “I didn’t, please.” He murmured, again. His heart aching at the sight of the villain’s tears, the villain swat them away harshly.
“Of course you did. You would have. I should’ve known. We could never be together, you’re too good for me. I’m too disgraceful for you.” The villain’s eyes turning dark, his expression ominous. The hero felt hopeless, so he kissed the villain. Or tried to, but the police were inside the room, taking away the villain with them forcefully. He could barely touch the villain’s lips a hitch, before the other was snatched away from him. He stood there watching the villain’s face going away, his hands that he caressed every morning, now, covered with cuffs.
The hero’s eyes blurred the vision, and as he attempted to go to the villain, pull him away, and run, he collapsed on the floor.

“What if I told you that I loved you to the moon and back?” The villain asked with a cheeky grin. Their hand gently carded through the hero’s hair, massaging the scalp gently.
The hero chuckled lowly, putting down the book they were reading. “I’d say you’re a sap. Which is not a good combination along with being a villain.”
The villain smirked, snorting. “Oh yeah? Then why did you agree to marry me when I said that exact same line to propose you?”
“Because you were proposing me in front of the whole city. It’d embarrassing to reject you. I did it to save my reputation.” The hero sighed.
“So you admit it was a good line?” The villain questioned, perking their eyebrows up with a laugh as they lean down to give a kiss on the hero’s forehead.
“Yeah, yeah. You got me all wooed.” The hero admitted with a smile, bringing the villain’s hand down to their mouth to smooch it.
(Part 1…?)
“We used to be best friends,” The hero murmured, gazing out the window of their room. The moon shining so bright, they tore their eyes from it. The light shining through the glass, illuminating the whole place up. They sighed. “Perhaps, something more intimate that I refused to put a name on. We both refused to.”
“Dad, were you guys more than friends?” The hero’s child, a fourteen-year-old, asked them. Their eyes animated with wonder, their lips curved up a little. The hero chuckled, as they patted the teenager’s head.
“You should go to sleep now, hmm? It’s getting late.” The hero murmured, moving from the place they were standing and striding to where the other was sitting on the bed.
“Buttttttt, I have to know.” The fourteen-year-old whined, shaking their head as their parent picked them from the bed by their arm, in one sweep. “Where are they now? Do you know?” They asked again.
“No, I don’t know where he is right now, and nor do I wish to.” The hero said, eyes filling with suppressed sadness, their voice cracking. They tried to stay calm as memories of their college days came crushing in all at once, fogging their whole mind. Suddenly, they felt dizzy as they let go of the confused teenager’s arm, and sat down on the bed.
It was now or never. Every time they had this conversation, it would end with the hero staying silent the end, not wanting to bring up any reminders of the villain. They could not tell the younger one, that their best friend was none other than the most wanted criminal in the entire city. It would be too much, for both of them. Every time the assignment of finding the villain was assigned to him, they would always decline it. They couldn’t afford to meet the villain let alone, catch them. It would break them, unwillingly.
Yet, they couldn’t bury it all down again. Not when the kid was getting nothing but smarter every day, wiser. Mature. It felt wrong to hide their history any longer than they had been. So, they took a deep breath and let it all out. They told the fourteen-year-old everything that he had been wanting to, everything they didn’t tell anyone else, not even their ex-partner. Perhaps, that’s why when their partner felt that they weren't the one the hero was looking for, they decided to set them both free.
The teenager listened intently, asking their parent questions here and there. Frowning at various times, and laughing at others. It was a roller coaster of emotions, if you asked them.
“So…you still love them then?” They questioned, eyes brows raised.
The hero glanced away, wiping away the tears that unknowingly left out of their eyes, “I wish I could say no, but yes. Yes, I do love-," Before the hero could finish his sentence, there was a big thud from the kitchen. The teenager glanced at their dad, their eyes filled with surprise.
They both quickly but quietly made their way to the kitchen, the hero in the front, while their child trailed behind.
When they peeked out behind the wall of the kitchen, the hero's heart stopped. The villain stood there, appearing smug.
CW: PTSD episode
The hero put down the bat as they gazed at the villain. The villain shield himself, while his whole body was violently shaking. In reality, the hero had picked up the bat from a random trash can that sat in one of the dark valleys. He had not planned on hitting the villain with it, maybe, using it as a defense tool.
"Please...don't hit me. Please." He wept, his eyes slowly filling with tears. The hero backed away, confused.
"What?" He mumbled, frowning a bit to himself.
"Please, just don't hit me. I'll do what you say." The villain whispered, the words barely reaching the hero's ears. His eyes let out the water holding them. He kept whispering, 'Please'.
The hero gulped, as realization hit. The villain was having a PTSD episode. He bent down and reached for the villain's hands. The villain backed away, in fear.
"It's okay. I'm- I'm...not going to hit you. Please, look at me." The hero murmured, making sure to keep his voice gentle. The villain reluctantly lowered his hands. His face was filled with terror, and the hero wanted to caress it away.
"You're safe, okay? I'm not going to do anything to you." The hero said, his eyes filled with concern. The villain sat still, his body still shaking a bit. He needed time and space. The hero decided to give him that. And, stayed where he was.
