Kim Rok-Soo...? That is so him, don't ask me why
When the unflappable character sees someone they care about in danger and the mask slips, it's great.
But when the unflappable character sees someone they care about in danger, and the mask DOESN'T slip.
Because they understand they need to be calm and unflappable now more than ever; if it protects them, it will certainly protect the person they care about. So their voice doesn't waver, their hands don't shake. They don't panic. From the outside looking in, they're as calm as could be. They handle it.
But after it's over-when the person they care about is safe, and the unflappable character is alone-they completely shatter. Gasping breaths, sobs, barely holding it together because someone they love almost DIED, and it was far, far too close for comfort.
(Optional: Character that they care about finds them in this state and comforts them.)
Hot girl shit (grown ass man)
The more I delve into the tcf fandom, the greater the urge to find some more Cale and Kim Roksu interactions as twins. Like... they're both so similar yet different.
OG Cale is a master actor. He tricked so many people into believing his facade and I'm curious to see more of his scarily good acting skills. But he also has the temper of a raging fire. His fury is apoplectic and while he doesn't have the strength to hurt someone, his sharp tongue and wit can cut boulders. He might not be able to rain upon real knives or magic spells upon his enemies, but he'll make up for it with words that'll sting followed by quick and unsuspecting attacks.
Meanwhile Kim Roksu has the poker face of a blank stone, with only tiny cracks showing in his emotionless facade. When he's angry, it's a chilling cold. Like snow falling, freezing over hell before he unleashes the fury of an unforgiving storm.
They're mainsplain, manipulate, and manslaughter in a single package. Plus three if they allowed their companions to join in their schemes.
They are both different yet similar. And I'm pretty sure if they ever teamed up (like in a twin AU or something) the world would have knelt in front of them by now. If they haven't already. Any god certainly can't stop these duo. Plus, it'll be pretty cool to watch them work together and being out maximum terror upon unsuspecting victims.
That, and I desire to see more of OG Cale being the spitfire, trash talking, vicious noble who wouldn't hesitate to throw any nearest object at someone he hates. Bonus points if Kim Roksu is behind him, ready to throw salt onto their wounds before burying them in the ground.
i like the idea that red hood is to crime alley what daredevil is to hell's kitchen in the dd comics. in the way that:
Jason: *in full red hood gear, walking through an alley* homeless man next to him: hey, todd. how's patrol? jason: *grinning under his helmet* i don't know if you need new glasses---or maybe a memory boost, jimmy---but the todd kid is dead. i, obviously, am not. homeless man: *snickers* yeah sure, sure, jason
Jason: *walking down the street in civvies* passerby: hey! hood! i have some info for you, drug deal goin' on 'round the docks jason: *raises brow* yeah? well, i ain't hood . . . but i'll take that info to him if ya want. he patrols near my apartment passerby: you keep tellin' yourself that, dude
batman: have you seen the criminal Red Hood? crime alley resident: *lighting a cigarette, making continual eye contact with batman* I'm blind. haven't seen anyone batman: *examines the woman* obviously not. you can see me just fine crime alley resident: ya ain't ever heard of selective vision impairment? it's totally a thing batman:
little girl: hey, hood. th' cops were lookin' fer ya jason: hmm. what did ya tell 'em? little girl: t' stick it where th' sun don't shine jason: *high-fives her* i'm going to buy you an entire toy store, kid
jason: i think we should get a divorce
steph: what are you doing?
jason: just practicing
steph: why are you already planning your hypothetical divorce?
jason: i don't know. i'm getting old, i think i'm having a mid-life crisis
steph: you don't even have a girlfriend
jason: hypothetically divorce me
steph: okay, then i'm hypothetically taking half your assets
jason: well, you didn't sign the hypothetical prenup
jason, to duke: it's called a prenup, right?
duke: yeah, it's a prenup, and you DID hypothetically sign one
steph: who the fuck is this guy?
duke: i'm his hypothetical lawyer in this divorce case
steph: well, then, i'm taking the hypothetical kids
steph, to tim: right? we can get those, right?
tim: yes, we can definitely get the hypothetical kids, don't worry about it
jason: who the fuck is this hypothetical fucking idiot? a hella fucking nerd idiot
tim: wow, that is a lot of hypothetical insults. i need to keep these on for continuity because i look like the other lawyer
steph: this is MY hypothetical lawyer, and we have been hypothetically sleeping with each other
jason: how could you hypothetically do this to me?!
steph: because you hypothetically are an alcoholic!
I love this man. He breaks my heart every time.
I wanted to talk a bit about how TCF is the kind of story where you have to pay attention.
For example, Cale is almost always described as uncaring. Stoic. Almost all his smiles are scammer smiles.
And yet...
Mary said this:
And from Mary >>> She shared her honest thoughts about Cale. She said it in an innocent way because she was an innocent person. ‘That person is always looking at everything.’ He was meticulously caressing all of his group’s pains. He may come off as indifferent, but it was always done in a gentle way. His heart seemed to be as tall as a mountain. He had healed Mary’s pain that way as well.
We saw this even earlier, though I'll cut the irrelevant parts to make it more clear:
Cale nodded his head at Hans’s statement while observing Choi Han. He had a nostalgic look in his eyes. ...
Cale started to frown as he called Choi Han over. “Choi Han.” “…Yes?” “Hurry back.” .... “Yes sir. I will be right back.” Cale motioned as if he was annoyed, but Choi Han bowed before quickly starting to walk toward the village with Hans. Cale, who preferred this focused Choi Han to the one who had a blank expression, continued to watch him before suddenly starting to frown.
Cale is always paying attention to the people around him, and even when he says he doesn't care, he's always paying attention to the people around him. To their moods and needs.
Which they see and recognizes. Mary's not the only one who has said something about that.
Or who mentions Cale's facial expressions when dealing with death. They can tell that Cale does everything he can to preserve life, and even when it's enemy dead, even when he chose to fight, it still noticeably affects him. Like here, after he led the fight at sea against the northern invasion.
Choi Han called out toward Cale as the representative. He could see the ocean that Cale was currently looking at. There were corpses floating up next to the debris. Choi Han slowly approached Cale. He could see the frown on Cale’s face. ‘…He really has a soft heart.’ Cale started to speak. “How peaceful.” His voice sounded tired. Fatigue was evident in every word he spoke. Everybody became quiet after hearing Cale’s tone. Although he had said something nice, the weight and sorrow in his voice made them all shut up.
I also suspect Cale isn't nearly as good at controlling his facial expressions, as at least one character indicated he was an open book.
Or maybe that's just when Cale isn't trying to scam someone or hide his feelings.
Part of what I find fascinating about this story is that there's all these little things indicating that the primary impression is... Only part of the story.
Cale said calmly as he planned how to burn everything down.
I want that
Best use case of the Dominating Aura:
❌ Intimidate your opponents
❌Get your way in an argument
❌Scamming people in general
❌Protect yourself against Dragon Fear
❌Protect others against the Blood-Drenched Rock
✅✅✅ Avoid talking to people at social gatherings
I love them, we love a supportive father and his children
Just a proud dad and his overpowered Dragon toddler
