The WillEl fight/flight dichotomy is really important when discussing how people respond to abusers. Both of their points of view are vital to the show and they show them both in deeply empathetic lights. Sometimes people respond with violence and we can fully understand why they did so. Sometimes people do not fight back and they are not weaker for doing so and what happens to them is not their fault.
gay mike this, bi mike that
let’s look at the real issue in the byler fandom and that’s ppl who think mike would be scared of spiders
demanding a scene where mike is minding his own business doing whatever and then looks up to see will walk by and the sunlight is hitting him just right and suddenly everything is in slow motion and mike is staring gaping cannot believe his eyes because will looks that good bonus points if will feels mike looking at him turns his head and gives him a wink because he knows exactly what he's doing
a concept: s5 promo, a gif-poster or a clip, we see Will’s face from the side, eyes open and vulnerable, a familiar pale hand with long fingers resting on his cheek
then the picture shifts, Will’s open eyes turn white, hand turns into Vecna’s claw-like fingers.
do you see the vision
I feel as though there is a desire to completely dichotomize byler when they don’t need to be polar opposites in order to fit together. They are individuals, but it’s their differences AND their similarities that make their dynamic what it is
We don't talk enough about the Sauna Test.
Mike literally grabbed a pipe and tried to bash Billy's brain in to protect El, and then it backfired and Billy almost killed Mike, and all Will could do was... stand there.
We forget this because as soon as Mike grabbed the pipe, the camera prioritizes Mike, Billy and El. But Will was there. Lucas was there. Max was there. They watched helplessly as Mike nearly got himself killed trying to save El.
Will has his own memories of Mike being in danger and not being able to do anything about it. Watching Mike be a knight in shining armour and not being able to stop him from putting himself in more danger than he needs to be in.
Dustin has the cliff scene from season 1 but it's Will, Lucas, and Max that saw the sauna test.
byler week day two | mike or will @lgbtqcreators creator challenge | colour
will sitting on mike’s lap while will kisses him stupid is a necessity and not up for negotiation
My fav frames lol
I really disagree with the idea that Will would be ok with liking boys if he didn't love Mike and that Mike would be ok with loving Will if he wasn't a boy. Maybe it's a snappy sounding post but it's also just...not true? Acting like Mike is The One™ with internalised homophobia and that Will is completely chill with his sexuality completely goes against canon.
Did you guys forget the bullying and abuse Will experienced because people thought he was gay? The van scene? Canonically, the only thing stopping Will from feeling like a mistake is the fact that he loves Mike. Because Mike makes him feel like he's not a mistake. He makes Will feel like he's better for being different. If being gay is be unnatural and bad, how can his love for Mike be so beautiful?
Will is becoming ok with his sexuality because he loves Mike, not in spite of it.
