โI donโt think Alice will be able to pull this off.โ
Madeline stated, crossing her arms.
โShe isnโt weak March, Iโm sure she can keep them occupied enough for you shut down my cell block.โ
โItโs not about her being weak Hattie, itโs just I donโt think sheโll want to join.โ
In truth, she didnโt want Alice to join them. She had seen how Alice hung on Tetchโs every word and seemed to worship him. It was similar to Madelineโs own, except more extreme. Alice also wasnโt a criminal. Not yet at least.
โMarch!โ Jervis gasped, โWhy wouldnโt she want to join the tea party!?โ
โI just think Alice needs more time, after all what will happen when the Jabberwocky comes for us all. We wouldnโt want Alice to get hurt, right?โ
Hopefully appealing to Tetches more protective side of Alice would help.
โI can knock out the guards and shut down security for you.โ
Colored my fanart forย @themarchinghareโs OC Batman rogue, The March Hare! I hope this looks close to what you imagine!
โฆSome mental images just like smacking me in the face with a phonebook. This is one. I was listening to the latest CodotVerse audio file when it got a little wild and I had to draw what I saw. Oh, my dear deluded Jervis. Anyhoo, have a good day to all of you. :)
Ficlet of Jervis and Madeline
The rain made everything seem so loud. Every step, every panting breath, and every police siren echoed so much louder. A part of her wished all of the noise would just stop, stop and let her think. Instead, she kept running forward. Madeline could feel rather than see Tetch stumbling behind her, all she could do was grip his hand tighter and hope the next turn would give them a place to hide.ย
Finally several abandoned buildings came into sight and Madeline forced her exhausted legs to push faster.
"Tetch, come on! Just a few more steps! Then the police won't get us. I promise, we'll be safe soon!"
Madeline turned her head only for a moment to see Jervis's panting exhausted face. If she was in a better scenario, she'd try to carry him, but that was impossible now.ย
Finally buildings stood in front of them. Without thought Madeline grabbed her remaining Kama and broke the glass to the dingy window. She quickly grabbed Tetch and thrust him through before hopping in herself. The moment her body dropped inside she felt shards of glass entering her torn boot.ย
For a few tense seconds, they both remained on the floor, panting. Mercifully, the sirens disappeared, leaving only the sound of rain. Still exhausted, Madeline pushed herself up and looked at her companion. He remained on the floor, trying to curl up and block out the world.ย
"Alright, alright, Tetch, the cops are gone, we just need to lay -"
"March, why did- did she do that? Why did she scream for the Red Queen?"
Madeline's face softened as she realized that Tetch was once again lost in his own fantasy. Slowly, Madeline crept closer to her companion, ignoring the glass that penetrated part of her broken boot. Madeline half jumped towards Tetch, before tilting her chin up and wiggling her nose.
"Now now Mister Hatta' we know that wasn't the real Alice. Why that young girl just wanted - wanted to play a game with us. No need to sulk!"
As casually as she could, so as to not spook him, she pushed Tetch into her lap, dusting off the broken glass that stuck to him.
"Ah, but March! I don't care for croquet, you know! And I'm tired of all these silly games!"ย
Tetch pouted, throwing his arms in the air, ignoring the bleeding wound on his arm.
"Alice, oh Alice, where is she? Can't she see how much I want to bring her a party?"
Madeline sighed, looking around the old building. She would need to find something to distract him from his pity party.ย
"Well, sometimes girls just want to -"
Suddenly, Madeline had a marvelous idea. Moving her hand to grip his shoulder, she forced him up to see a pile of decrepit boxes.
"Ah, look Hatta', a tea party! Already set up! How wondrous, how stupendous! Perhaps this was all a game to get us here!"
Madeline glanced down at Tetch, hoping that he would see the table and cups, and not some other wicked thing. She could never fully predict where his mind would take him.ย
Just as she thought, he immediately jumped up and began eagerly walking towards the pile.
"Well, Callooh Callay to you, March! For a hare your eyes are sharp, why I bet they could cut a rath in half!"
Without another word, he sat himself on one box lower than the rest, and began to mime pouring tea.
"Hurry, Hare! Before it gets too cold!"
Smiling, Madeline stood up, already feeling the soreness in her body. It was only a temporary distraction until Tetch got his bearings.ย
'Why, see this! Our day went from mimsy to frabjous in an instant! Why it's like a -'
"Not the same thing a bit!โ said the Hatter. `You might just as well say that 'I see what I eat' is the same thing as 'I eat what I see'!"
"You might just as well say,โ added the March Hare, `that 'I like what I get' is the same thing as 'I get what I like'!"
The words tumbled out of Madelineโs mouth with ease. Madeline slowly sat down next to her friend and pretended to eat a crumpet. She knew they'd have to leave and find a better hide out. For now, playing pretend with her friend was all she wanted to do.
This was...messed up at the least, a complete distressing mess that has the police involved at the worst. I know he adores Wonderland, but this is just..
"It.. it's just so new to me! How did you know they wanted to volunteer?"
I tried to hide my nervousness, none of them were Alice so they became.. this? Does that mean?... No, he calls me Hare. The March Hare. I already have a chosen role.
"The roles the girls, and I, play, how exactly does that work?"
I want to ask if they're in pain but.. that should wait.
"Why did you lie to me?"

Electrotherapy (ETC) is actually used to treat severe depression, sucidal thoughts/behaviors, bipolar (mania/depression), and schizophrenia (Catonia). This treatment is also sometimes used in Dementia and pregnancy. This is usually used when medication doesn't work, the patient has had ETC before, or the sufferer needs the effects immediately because they can pose a threat (to self or others) in the time it takes the medication to take effect. This is all done with consent of the patient and possibly family.
Usually the patient is given muscle relaxers and asleep (anesthetic) before hand. While they sleep the device is placed on their head and a controlled electric current is used producing a brief brain seizure. The patient usually doesn't remember the producer and is carefully monitored and is repeated three times a week.
Side effects: Temporary confusion, retrograde amnesia, temporary nausea, headache, muscle ache and medical complications.
(www.webmd.com, www.mayoclinic.org, www.mind.org.uk)
If you've seen/read whatever anything with Arkham Asylum or the inmates chances are this treatment has been show or referenced. This makes sense as ETC is still used today and I'd be lying if I said that none of the inmates need it. However personally I don't think it's shown/done correctly.
The staff apparently missed the part about the patients being asleep during the procedure as patients laughing (Joker) seem to be a common occurrence. Also how Sparks seem to fly while it's happening when that would probably kill or at least fry the brain. Another thing is how the patients are strapped down, something I didn't mention was that the Patient is LAYING DOWN not sitting in a freaking chair!
Arguably Arkham may not even ask the patients for consent (which kinda makes sense it'd be weird to just have a page of a comic having an inmate sign paperwork). Another thing is which rogues get the treatment I'm no doctor/psychologist/ therapist whatever so I can't say if a certain rogue needs it or not.
If I'm seeing this correctly then it makes a lot of sense so many inmates are not getting better and are always eager to escape. Hell I bet Bruce Wayne and Batman have quite a few things to say to the staff at Arkham.
Sadly whenever it's shown in the Batman universe it looks like it simply feeds into the public opinion of ETC which is a shame because even though it was horrific in the past it's helped so many people today.
At the end all I wanna add is PLEASE do research into this stuff creators you don't need to know everything about but a quick Google search reveals it's not that horrific, at least today! If y'all would like me to discuss another treatment in Arkham please let me know!
