The family’s struggle is compounded by starvation, diseases, and the constant interruption of essential services like electricity and fuel. The family’s situation is further exacerbated by the loss of their livelihoods and the death of numerous relatives.

Currently, they live in a tent, struggling to rebuild both their home and their means of support. Despite these overwhelming challenges, Maria remains resolute in her pursuit of education and her determination to help her family recover from the devastation they have endured.

My name is Sameer Al-Nasla, and I’m a 17-year-old from Gaza. Like many young people, I had big dreams for my future. I was on the verge of completing high school, and my goal was to study medicine and become a doctor. Since I was a child, I’ve always wanted to help my people by providing medical care, especially in such a difficult region.❤️😁

However, the ongoing war has taken everything from me and my family.💔😔

When the war began, my family was forced to flee our home in West Gaza and relocate to the South. Life immediately became a struggle. In the chaos of displacement, I lost the chance to finish high school, which means I also lost my opportunity to attend university and pursue my dream of becoming a doctor. 😣💔

To make matters worse, the war destroyed my father’s business, which was our family’s source of income. Now, with no home and no livelihood, life has become a constant fight for survival. I’ve had to start working at a young age to help support my family of six, but it’s not enough to make ends meet.😢🍉

Every day, my family and I face the reality of war. Death and destruction surround us. Our health has deteriorated, diseases have spread, and we don’t have access to proper medical care. The suffering is overwhelming, and yet, despite everything, I still hold onto my dream.🥀💔

What is this?

I don't like being alone. I need to be around others. When I'm alone, the only person I have to talk to is me, but they don't like me. They tell me things like, "No one loves you; you'll always be a third wheel to people they care about more than you," "You're not going to do anything special, your days are numbered, and you know it, but you just don't do anything," and "You're forgettable, no one thinks you're funny, or creative, or interesting. You're just you. Average."

I don't always know what to make of that, so instead I sit. I sit alone on my bed, clutching my stomach and convincing myself not to throw up. I don't want to be alone.

In-universe-explanation: Bill hasn't actually inhabited his own body in a very long time, so he couldn't exactly cut it, and although he's back in his body, he hasn't bothered to try cutting it. Out-of-universe-explanation: Bill's hair being so long and his neglect at cutting it represents his attachment to his past and his unwillingness to let go or move on. He can't ignore his past, and that continuously gets in his way and causes him problems.
