My heart breaks for my family. How many times must their hands burn just to reach a loaf of bread? And behind each loaf lies the harsh reality: flour infested with worms and insects, expired and damp from poor storage and transport. Yet they have no other choice they’ve already been forced to eat animal feed and wild grass.

Do you know the cost of this single sack of flour? Or how many children risk their lives gathering firewood from the rubble of destroyed homes under constant threat of bombing? Aboudi, for example, should be living his childhood in peace. Instead, he’s the one tasked with collecting wood for cooking.

Can you imagine how many children, how many people, wait eagerly for that single piece of bread, only to share it among so many? How much longer will this suffering and humiliation continue this war of starvation? Do you know how many children have died hungry in this genocide?

Silent solidarity will not save the children of Palestine. We must act and make a difference. Thanks to your support, we have raised enough to secure the escape of three of my family members from Gaza.

Ibrahim is only fifteen years old and trying to survive a genocide. I will reiterate what i’ve said on other fundraiser posts:

A child should never have to beg for help for his family online. He should be in school. He should be playing video games or hanging out with his friends. This is one of the many things this genocide has taken from him and many other children his age. A childhood. Ibrahim says his dreams are to seek asylum abroad with his family and developing his scientific and technical skills.

Please help Ibrahim’s family survive and give him a chance to go to school and have the future he dreams of 🙏🏼 every child deserves a chance, he has his whole life in front of him, don’t let that be taken from him.

Like every family in Gaza, they lack basic necessities like food and water, your donations can help them stay alive in this horrible situation.

Their goal is only 20,000 euro, this is very achievable. with 2,315 euro they are nearly a fourth of the way! they need 17,685 to reach their goal, and 7,685 to reach 50%

Rooster Teeth Archive Update!

I just wanted to shout out all of the people over at Archive of Pimps who've worked so hard on archiving 21 years of content across the RT site and YouTube channels. With the Rooster Teeth site shutting down in just about a week (on May 15, 2024), and the future of the YT channels unknown, this was a massive undertaking to quickly preserve a metric fuckton of content before it could be lost forever. So much media has been lost because of bad storage practices, lack of foresight, and (most critically) corporate greed, so I seriously applaud those folks for working so diligently to get this done.

Yesssss! Even thought I'm half black and half white, I feel great having a confirmed lighter skinned multiracial person to look up to, as I'm still in HS.

Marinette, biracial and whitewashing

Okay, I have been seeing a lot of posts about Marinette Dupain-Cheng from the Miraculous Ladybug series. For those who don’t know, Marinette is Half Chinese/Half French-Italian.

She has blue hair and blue eyes, so she looks more “white” than Chinese, but does still have some Asian features to her, albeit subtle. I have been seeing a lot of posts saying she is “whitewashed.”

I want to address this because, like Marinette, I am also half Asian, and like Marinette, I have more prominent white features than Asian ones. I am half Vietnamese/Half Scottish-Irish.

I have light brown hair with red highlights due to my Irish side, light brown eyes and look more white than Vietnamese except for subtle Asian features, like straight hair and slightly slanted eyes.

I’m going to break this post up and address each issue.

Issue 1: “Marinette is white washed because she has blue eyes and blue hair! She looks white! Why couldn’t they have given her brown eyes and black hair?!”

Okay…

For one thing, that isn’t how genetics work. Even if one “gene” is more dominate than the other doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Like I said before, I have RED HIGHLIGHTS in my hair. When I’m in the sun, my hair in a certain angle looks red as heck. It doesn’t mean I am any less biracial. I look more like my mom than my dad, who happens to be white.

I have a friend who is half white and half Mexican. She’s as white as can be with dirty blonde hair and light HAZEL eyes. I didn’t even know she was biracial until I met her mom, who happened to be so dark skinned, I thought she was black, with dark brown eyes and dark brown hair.

Biracial people can look exclusively white. If you don’t believe me, look at Keanu Reeves. He’s half Chinese and sure doesn’t look like it! So yes. It is possible. I will also link some pictures of my family under a cut if no one believes me.

I also want to point out the hypocrisy of this statement. Anime. How many times have we seen anime characters with blonde hair and blue eyes? Yet no one seems to claim those characters are “whitewashed” and they have less chance of getting those features than a biracial person does!

People claim “that’s different, it’s a stylized choice” …well, guess what. So is Marinette’s blue hair. You can’t say one thing for a media and then deny that for another. It’s called being a hypocrite. It’s even mentioned that Marinette’s hair is actually a stylized black and serves as a homage to that kind of style in old comics.

At least Marinette has more chance of having blue eyes than Japanese anime characters, because, you know…she’s BIRACIAL.

Issue 2: “Marinette doesn’t know her Chinese culture or language/Sabine is a bad parent for not teaching her/She’s whitewashed because she doesn’t know her other half culture!”

It may come to a surprise to people, but this actually happens a lot. I don’t know a lick of Vietnamese or about Vietnamese culture because my dad wanted it that way. He wanted me to fit in, so he never taught me any of it. Does that make him a bad parent? No, it doesn’t. He was a great dad (he’s long passed now), and I find it insulting that someone who thinks they don’t teach their children about their culture is a bad parent. How about appreciating Marinette has kind and loving and supportive parents instead?

Issue 3: “Why make her biracial then if they are just going to whitewash her? What about representation?!”

Yeah… representation. It’s still happening. I’m the one being represented. Someone who is biracial who looks white and doesn’t know about her culture. Me. And I’m sure many others like it. Just because her “Asian” side isn’t being represented as much, doesn’t mean she isn’t representing.

Issue 4: “Biracial people should look more like their non-white side than white side or else it’s whitewashing! Miraculous writers are racist, because they are white!”

As I addressed before…looking exclusively white doesn’t make biracial people any less biracial. By saying this and getting offended by “white-looking Marinette”, you’re basically telling people who look like Marinette that we don’t exist or shouldn’t exist.

You are invalidating our existence and that, in turn, actually makes you the racist. Being “white” isn’t racist. It’s just the way people are born. In a time where white supremacy is going around, it’s hard to forget that white people can be the object of racism from other communities. It has happened to me A LOT.

Asians are actually EXTREMELY racist at times. I often went to the Asian market to get Asian food with my dad and Chinese friend. Because I was the only “white-looking” person there, I would get stares and whispers from the Asian Community. I have been told I don’t “look Asian enough”, so I have no say or opinion in how I feel about an Asian issue that involves me, just because I look “white.”

ANY race can get racism directed at them, even white people. It’s just not as often heard of because “white privilege” or something along those lines. Yes, white privilege exists, but it isn’t always prominent. Sometimes white people are the ones who are setup by a minority and those quick to defend a minority will often believe the non-white person over the white person. It does happen.

Isabelle Fuhrman: she killed it as Clove and Esther. She has the death stare down to a science.

Deva Cassel: She looks similar to the actresses I've chosen for Sophie (since they're supposed to be twins), but still has the dark hair and hazel eyes we see on the cover of the 6th book. The only caveat is that she doesn't have much acting experience and her mother is Monica freaking Bellucci, so I don't know how they'd portray her as unattractive. But regardless, she has that dark and brooding look I'm going for.

Also, I've been following Deva for a while and literally gasped when I saw her in this dress. This is literally how I pictured Agatha during the CoT!

SOPHIE - Whenever I read Sophie I can only ever think of these two

Dove Cameron: She's just so good at acting bubbly and smug! She's so preppy in Liv and Maddie and Schmigladoon! S1. But in Descendants, we see her play a more serious character as Mal. And with her background in singing- ugh, she's just phenomenal. I get such Glinda vibes from her.

But she totally rocks dark hair and a more mature vibe. Just imagine that scene in the first book where Sophie dyes her hair black 😭. Anyways, moving on.

Elle Fanning: She has the round face, blonde hair, and green eyes. If you watched The Great, you can see just how well she plays a sassy and more mature character. There's also the fact that she played Aurora in Maleficent, and I feel like with Sophie herself wanting to be a princess, it would have just been so ironic XD

VANESSA - I was heavily debating on whether I should post this but,

Amanda Seyfried: She really has the range in terms of acting. She also has blonde and green eyes. I can't explain it, but I just see her as Vanessa. And I don't want to hear anyone mention that she's on the younger side because Vanessa is dead.

CALLIS - I've yet to see somebody as Callis, but I have an idea:

Monica Bellucci: In my casting, I have her daughter as Agatha, so I figured why not? It could be this thing where like even though Agatha is not Callis' blood daughter in the book, she is irl.

TEDROS: I don't pay attention to men very much. But I might as well complete the trio-

Here's a little lesson in the Tumblr algorithm, for those who don't know: the only way for a post to be spread to someone's dash, after it's already been made, is through reblogs. Likes do very little for boosting visibility. Besides adding notes so a post has a higher likelihood of appearing at the top of search results for the tags they're featured in, likes are just caches to show/store posts you've liked. They do not significantly increase the likelihood that the post will be seen by more people. The only way to ensure this is to reblog it to your own blog, so your followers will see it.

Also, this isn't Twitter. I know that on Twitter, it's largely expected for most of your profile to consist of mostly your own tweets, and not too many retweets. Tumblr is extremely different, in that the entire site is made up of shared posts. The site is designed for maybe 5% of the content on your dash to be original content at any given moment, while 95% will be reblogs from others, and that's perfectly acceptable and expected, actually.

This is all to say that, I know a lot of you come from Tik Tok or Twitter, where liking content has a direct, positive effect on the content's visibility. I know that your FYP is dictated by what gets more likes/what the people you follow like, and that Twitter shows posts your following likes on the TL. But Tumblr is extremely different. So please, don't hesitate to reblog shit on this website, especially art/writing. If you liked an artist's work, the best thing you can do for them is reblog it because simply liking it will do very little to boost their post's visibility. This doesn't just apply to art either; if there's a PSA, theory, etc., that you enjoyed and want more people to see, the only way for that to happen is to reblog.
