Yapping session again, I apologize {Wrote this whilst listening to Preacher's Daughter, GOATED ALBUM} Poorly edited, a bit more coherent than the last post đ©·
The family dynamic seems to be very..unconventional yet unsurprising. Itâs a family of traumatized, traumatizing, enablers whoâre struggling to survive both in spirit and in actuality. This post was intended to focus mainly on Thomas but I dove deep into Hoyt and the other family members as well because I feel they have such a big impact on Tommy:(
___
Thomas is obviously a very closed-off and introverted individual. His childhood was full of ridicule, cruelty, and abuse. His main father figure was and still is Hoyt - Charlie, but his biggest influence is his Momma, Luda Mae. Iâve seen multiple people paint Luda as a saint when in all actuality, sheâs not. Although she may not be as malicious, sheâs an enabler with intense family pride and protectiveness. Her automatic dislike of Erin is proof of this. She assumes Erin {and her friends, brother, boyfriend} are judgemental and arrogant âcity-slickersâ whoâre out to get Thomas. In all actuality, Erin never comments on Thomasâ looks besides her small conversation with Henrietta: âI couldnât, I couldnât look at him.â Even in this segment, she never says anything bad about Thomas except warning Henrietta and the Tea Lady {weâll just call her âKathyâ based on her actor} of his arrival. During this segment, we learn additional information about how the family views Thomas, as well as his general behavior. Dialogue from family members include:
âHe knows better than to be messing around hereâŠPoor Sweet boy--Heâs no harm; Always keeps to himself.â - Henrietta, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003--1:02
âI know your kind--Nothing but cruelty and ridicule for my boy, all the time he was growing up. Does anybody care about me and my boy?â - Luda Mae, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003--1:06
âHe ainât retarded; Heâs misunderstood.â - Sheriff Hoyt / Charlie, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning 2006--16:30
âYou donât like playing with me anymore because Iâm a pussy, thatâs what you said. Well, my nephew Tommy ainât no pussy; Maybe youâd like to play with him for a little while.â - Sheriff Hoyt / Charlie, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning 2006--51:35
âYou beautiful bastard, you!â {Honestly this entire scene could be used here} - Sheriff Hoyt / Charlie, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning 2006--1:01:21 - 1:02:40
âThomas, quit playing with your fucking dolls and get up here!..Hmm, I like your new face.â - Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning 2006--1:06:15 - 1:06:35
âThere you go, nice work, Tommy.â - Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning 2006--1:09:55
âThereâs a time when every boy becomes a man.â Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning 2006--1:17:53
As you can see, most of the praise Thomas gets is from Hoyt. Honestly, reviewing Hoytâs character on his own, this may seem surprising, but diving past face-value, this isnât surprising at all. Hoyt is a sadistic, impulsive, traumatized veteran who very clearly values his family. I think both Thomas and Hoyt have the same thought{s}: âFamily is all Iâve known, family is all I have consistently. Therefore, I need to protect it.â This is very apparent in Hoytâs speech in The Beginning 2006: âUs... we're staying right here. The ashes of six generations of Hewitts have been tilled into the soil of this farm. We will never abandon the place of our birth. We're on our own now, people. And alone... we will rise above it all.â Both Hoyt and Thomas value family so much, and this is apparent in their immediate protection of them; As well as how violent they get once the family's safety is in jeopardy. The family also heavily depends on both of them, Thomas more than Hoyt. Luda Mae immediately calling out for Hoyt once Eric throws a brick through their window {48:25}, relying on Thomas to chase down Chrissie, ordering Thomas to âwrap things upâ after Montyâs amputation, Thomas being the main source of income prior to the meat plant shutting down, Hoyt Charlie being the one to protect Thomas from the original Sheriff Hoyt, the deleted scene where Charlie protects Thomas from malicious classmates, Thomas protecting Hoyt by killing the biker {1:01 - 1:03}.Â
Iâd also like to add; As someone with multiple military family members, the military changes you. War changes you. Considering Charlie is a POW, his trauma has to be so deep. {Iâd like to make this clear: !!IâM NOT DEFENDING NOR SYMPATHISING WITH HOYT!!} His lust for violence, domination, control, and protection is most likely a combination of his personality, growing up dirt poor, his relationship with Luda Mae + other family members {which Iâll talk about below}, the war, and their current situation. He definitely gets defensive of his country, the military in general, the South, and his family. I.E: âAinât nothing I hate worse than a draft-dodging hippie protester.â - The Beginning 2006--40:30. He most likely has the same views on âCity-slickersâ as Luda Mae, just more extreme. In fact, I think itâs safe to assume the entire family has that view, maybe even Thomas. {Though his would be more protection-based as opposed to politically divided.} *cough-cough, Hoyt*
Going back to Thomasâ âfather figuresâ, Monty and Hoyt were the only men in the house for Thomas to look up to. Hoyt was gone when Thomas was around 13, meaning during his very âexperimentalâ years, he only had Monty to look up to. Both Monty and Hoyt are sexual deviants with no shame at all; Monty very openly gropes Erin in the 2003 remake whilst calling her a âGood girl.â {I almost turned off the movie, I kid you not} Whilst Hoyt very openly gropes Bailey multiple times, and even toys with Erin. Itâs also heavily implied he raped Bailey {poor girl, this entire movie was so poor to her and Chrissie.} And whilst Luda Mae does get Hoyt to calm down with Erin, she still actively enables this behavior and completely ignores it. Now, I donât think Thomas would replicate this {fingers crossed}; Iâm sure Thomas has âurgesâ but he has so much to do, such little extra energy, and a shit ton of {religious} trauma which would most likely coerce him away from sexual activity. He also very obviously wants praise. The more Hoyt praises and encourages Thomas, the more sadistic he gets. And yes, Thomas is sadistic. Sure heâs trying to survive, protect, and feed his family, but he also actively tortures his victims. I.E; skinning Ericâs arms, bathing Andyâs amputation in salt, ect. And I donât wanna blame this on his âmental deteriorationâ, because thatâs not it in my opinion. Thomas has crossed the threshold of âIâm doing this to protect my family / because Iâm forced to.â No, heâs violent and angry. Heâs so done with everything. He needs an outlet to take his anger from him, and the victims are practically begging him with how infuriating they can be. Also, wearing Kemperâs mask to catch Erin??? Jesus Christ, Thomas, thatâs traumatizing. And he knows heâll get away with it. The law enforcement is gone, Hoyt has done worse, Momma doesnât seem to speak on it, why not continue? And Iâm sure he feels powerful when he finally gets the chance to bite back. This is exactly the kind of manipulation Hoyt did to get Thomas fully on board with this killing-spree shit; âItâs one of those assholes who used to fuck with you in the schoolyard, Tommy!â - The Beginning 2006--1:01:40. This brings me to my next point -Â
The family is immensely good at manipulation. Kinda by default, too. I know Southern hospitality can be viewed as passive aggressive and unnecessary depending on where youâre from, especially if youâre from up North; And I canât disagree in some instances. Luda Mae is the MOST likely to use her âSouthern hospitalityâ as means of manipulation. Her little coo to Bailey about âWe got to get you cleaned up, you donât want to look dirty for company, do you?â at around 42:30 {Which by the way, was Marrietta Marichâs [Luda Maeâs actress] idea apparently.} It was not only a way to distract Bailey from the torture below them, but to indoctrinate herself into believing everything was fine. This was their life, and Charlie Hoyt knows whatâs best, doesnât he? Iâm sure this was really difficult for her; Truly seeing who her son was and how the war affected him so deeply. Her seeming so closed off to Bailey and Chrissie at the community center was a result of the intense lifestyle change. Hoyt is EXTREMELY manipulative as well. I mean, he was a POW, you need a lot of skills in pattern recognition and psychology to survive such things. The way he speaks to everyone; Beginning slightly rational and neutral, only to quickly be angered and intimidated by his lack of power in the situation. This is especially prominent when he speaks to Morgan, Erin, and Pepper; But mostly Morgan. In the first movie, when the car breaks down and he tries to âcalm Erin downâ only to scold all of them for possession of drugs and such; Trying to convince Erin that Kemper killed the hitchhiker when he knew what really happened; Making Morgan reenact the scene whilst threatening him with an unloaded gun, pressuring him into âshootingâ whilst taunting about how theyâll be âaccomplices to murder.â Smashing the bottle in Morganâs face when he says Hoyt can have the Skynyrd tickets. The way he kisses and rubs on Bailey during the dinner scene in The Beginning?? How he coos and taunts Erin once she wakes up from the poison?? Heâs a master in manipulation and puts on a damn good show at that. Henrietta and the Tea Lady / Kathy are also extremely manipulative. When they force Erin to drink the tea, blame her for the baby crying, saying that she âlooks tenseâ and âneeds to relaxâ?? Yeah, this family is full of manipulative and emotionally abusive cycles. Anyway, back to how this affects Thomas.
Thomas was most definitely manipulated in multiple ways. Iâm sure Luda Mae has manipulated him into âdoing what's best for the familyâ and all that bullshit. He definitely has some religious trauma and sure as hell has endured abuse of many kinds.
To tie this all together, I present to you: The Family Dynamic.Â
I saw a post by I believe Scrapnick?{Their art is so so appealing} Anyway, someone had asked why Thomas and Hoyt are both âbrothers and uncle/nephew.â They responded with something like: âLuda Mae most likely got assaulted by her father as a child.â Their post was more detailed than that but that was the main point. And honestly, I agree. At first I thought Hoyt was Luda Maeâs husband, and then I heard him refer to Thomas as his ânephewâ, and then I heard him call Luda Mae âmama.â I went researching on wikis and such only to find results such as âhe doesnât view Thomas as a real brother, therefore he uses uncle/nephew.â Whilst this may be true, Hoyt and Luda Mae only have at MAX a 15 year difference. The actors {Marrietta Marich, R. Lee Ermey} only had a 14 year difference. Considering he also calls Monty his uncle, I think it's safe to assume Luda experienced assault from her father during her teens, resulting in pregnancy. Tying this back to religious trauma, I think this fact really upsets Hoyt. He loves his family, obviously, but I think the idea of him being âborn of sin,â I.E: Out of wedlock, incest, pedophilia; most likely affects him. I wonder if he ever thought âWell, Iâm going to hell anyway, might as well sin.â Iâm rambling right now, I apologize; Welcome to my blog {Yappville.}
Now, this dynamic obviously affected his relationship with Luda Mae. I doubt she loves him any less, but I think it was definitely difficult considering A.) Growing up religious; B.) Being such a young mother; And C.) Growing up and continuing to be excruciatingly poor. I think Hoyt gets a bit jealous of Thomas, surprisingly. Heâs jealous of how much Luda Mae adores him; How he really gets to have a mother instead of a struggling sister/mother who was trying so hard to get by. Hoyt seems to have a closer {yet still distant} relationship to Monty than Thomas does. I think Monty is just a distant, miserable old man whose patience is low and tiredness is high. Heâs worn out, especially after the amputation. The entire family is worn out; Slowly losing their grip on humanity with each passing day. The only consistent thing they have is each other, and yet still their relationships escape them. I think everyone, but especially Thomas {and Jedidiah, poor baby} just want a home to feel safe in. Really, just a stable income, stable food supply, and the ability to rest both physically and mentally. He wants to be able to have a purpose; To work again without needing to worry if his family will be okay. Being able to walk around the house without having to shut himself in the basement to avoid scoldings, demands, or endless calls. This entire family is really fucked up and in need of some rest, family therapy, maybe some physical therapy, and some damn prozac.Â
Okay, yay!! You made it to the end; I apologize for the long post again, I get so into analyzing things and I couldnât resist looking into the Hewitts. Tommy needs some prozac and some Southern cooking {Heâs just like me fr}
Love you all, thank you so much for the support on the previous post đ«
sorry guys I promise I'm working on posts just got lost with other things :)
I have a few posts planned {plus an ask I'm answering} feel free to send anything you wanna see; or don't, up to you
this was requested, but also something I often thinking about đ«
this took so long for me to post omfgggg
TW: Body Image Issues, Hoyt/Monty {how fun}, Implied Physical-Intimacy {though not explicitly said}, Tommy is a sweetheart <3
Tommy loves his sweetheart very very much {obviously}
_____
First of all: He's a big guy himself, so I doubt he'd mind {if not prefer} a bigger partner. The majority of the women in his life are plus/midsized {his momma, tea lady.} Essentially, the women with the most maternal influence {in his life} are plus/midsize :)
No one in the family would mind - Contrary to popular belief, I don't think Hoyt or Monty would say anything {hateful}; Considering their sister{s} have some more weight to them.
Now, that doesn't mean they won't comment other things..
One benefit{?} about your size {in the way the family views it}, they don't view you as 'frail', physically. That means more work, less physical restrictions. This also means Thomas is willing to get a bit rough with you {in many ways}.
He doesn't care how heavy you are, he's gonna carry you at least once. He'll help you up {if you need it}, carry you places, carry your things, anything that can show off his strength, really.
He doesn't want you to lose weight for image-related purposes. If you want to lose weight for health purposes, he's fully supportive of that {he wants you to bet as healthy as you can}. He finds your body to be empyrean - Something delicate that should be preserved, protected. If you did end up losing weight {or discussing it} for image purposes, he'd start becoming a bit self-conscious; What if you want him to lose weight too? Does he need to lose weight?
{He'd also affirm that you never need to alter your appearance, only your health.}
--
{If you're fem-presenting, or happen to wear dresses} Thomas likes seeing you in sundresses, especially ones that accentuate your figure ;) Luda Mae would love this aspect too - She'll bring out dresses from her younger days and have you try them on {she's just trying to bond with you, it reminds her of her youth}. If you like jewelry, she'll bring some of that out, too.
--
Being with someone of similar stature, Thomas would feel more comfortable with himself compared to being with someone skinnier. He knows that being bigger comes with ridicule and societal pressure, especially with clothing and presentation {which he too, struggles with}. This similarly almost provides a subconscious understanding between the two of you - In turn, decreasing his anxieties over his looks {around you}.
Although, he won't automatically show his face to you - Or anyone, for that matter.
--
He'd do this with his partner regardless, but during moments where he's {surprisingly} sappy, he likes to give you gentle, scattered kisses along your face and body - It's his way of showing that he loves youđ«
Expect plenty of nibbles and cuddling to go with it {he's gonna pass out cold on top of you...}
Thomas also likes holding you whenever you both feel comfortable. Even if it's just holding your waist from behind whilst your doing something - Or becoming your bra {he doesn't give a shit if you have breasts or not, he's doing it anyway}
He's seen plenty of bodies, but none of them captivate him quite like yours. He likes soft bodies, ones where he can trace the stretch marks with his finger - Though, he likes tracing bones on thinner bodies as well. Thomas has a loft of stretch marks, most he got during his adolescence - He doesn't mind them much, and seeing yours makes him mind them less. Even if yours aren't too visible, he likes the textural difference against his hands.
--
Overall, Thomas loves having a mid/plus sized S/O. I wouldn't necessarily say he prefers it, but he does like your figure {I headcanon Thomas as someone who likes harmony amongst features over individual features themselves - But he does really really like eyes}. Thomas focuses on personality most !! He likes not having to worry about you as much, but he's fully willing to worry.
To all my {fellow} plus/mid sized creatures, you're empyrean đ«
Please give him hugs n kisses - He needs 'em

Hey! I really like your posts.(Sorry for my bad Englishđđđ) And I feel so awkward asking you something..đ Well, in general I was interested. Thomas is a very closed person and I was interested if it is AT ALL possible to get closer to him. Like, is this even possible? What would he value in a person? Or maybe there would be some rules when communicating with him and his family? Sorry if my question sounds stupidđ
Hi! Don't worry, your English is very good! This question isn't stupid at all - I think it's wonderful! Plus, it gives me more to work with which I always appreciate. I took this as an opportunity to introduce what life would be like as a Hewitt "guest" - Which I will expand on in future posts đ«
Yay! Youâve survived the Hewitts - A real accomplishment if you ask me. Sure, youâre scratched up, bleeding, and traumatized but youâre alive, arenât you? {Wouldâve been better to die, but..canât do much about that now.}
____
Communicating with the family? That's not gonna be as hard. Submission and respect is what they accept - Nothing but.Â
First of all, youâre not automatically âfamilyâ just because you survived - Youâre a âguestâ captive. Youâll join them for dinner, you will NOT interrupt prayer; Youâll do chores, specifically the tedious or strenuous ones: Cleaning bathrooms, helping with laundry, dusting {the house definitely needs it}, getting Thomas for dinner, tending to the animals, dishes, ironing clothes - Anything to help the family. You will do as youâre told. If you donât, they wonât hesitate to penalize you.Â
Be prepared to give up all your belongings and morals. Everything they want, theyâll get. Books, clothing, food, MONEY, itâs theirs. If you have weapons, Hoyt is taking those IMMEDIATELY - Theyâre his now. Â
You will eat. Do not waste food, time, money, anything. The Hewitts have little as is, donât decrease their chances of survival.Â
If youâre fem-presenting, watch for Hoyt and Monty. Both are sexual deviants with no respect for women outside the family. From what Iâve seen in the films, Hoyt tends to prefer blondes - I donât see Monty as caring too much. Just like he did with Erin, Monty will ask for âhelpâ when you two are alone.Â
âCan you help me grab that?â - âCould you help me get up?â - âCould you pick this up for me?âÂ
Anything that gives him room to grope. Heâll try to trip you and lift your clothes with his cane, too.Â
Back to Hoyt,
Hoytâs a piece of shit, but heâs not as bad once youâre âfamily.â Itâll start off very rocky - Calling you slurs, being physically, verbally, mentally, emotionally abusive, trying to grope and rub-up you {if youâre fem-presenting}, VERY little trust, and lots of belittling remarks.Â
âI donât know what {whoever spared you} saw in youâ - âOne word, and Iâll get Tommy to chop your pretty ass up nâ serve you on this very dining tableâ - âWhat the hell are you doing? You ainât doing it right..assholeâ - Lots of comparisons to livestock and hookers, and lots of âyou fucking idiot!â
Once he's gotten used to you, he'll respect you a bit more. {If you've gotten close to Luda Mae or Thomas, he'll calm down}. If you're not a straight white woman, he'll call you a slur and frame it as a joke - It's not. He respects those who're part of the family, but that doesn't mean he wont ridicule you when you {or a victim} pisses him off. The easiest way to gain his respect is work. When he sees you working your ass off for the family, he'll slowly but surely gain respect for you. It may not seem like it, but Hoyt Charlie does care. He'll protect you from whatever once you're part of the family..but he'll still be 'tough love'.
--
Youâll have the best luck with Henrietta - Sheâs the least likely to get violent or judgy if you arenât judgemental to her. You wonât see her too often - But when you do, donât get confrontational {this goes for every family member}. The Tea Lady {Kathryn} Wonât do much harm either. Sheâs not too confrontational, only minor teasing with other family members. When she comes over for tea with Luda Mae, donât interrupt unless youâre spoken to.
OFFER AS MUCH AS YOU CAN !! If you see Luda doing housework, offer to help. At the scene around 1:12:00 in TCM: The Beginning, when Hoytâs in the kitchen with Luda Mae - At around 1:12:20 when she says âIâll go set the tableâ, it would be best if YOU offered to set the table. Preferably before she announces that she will. Recognize their routine, incorporate yourself by helping out when you can.Â
One of the biggest, most influential things you could do is warn the family when something happens. For example; in TCM:The Beginning, at around 1:16:55 {when Chrissie grabs the knife?} You should immediately either A.) Tell Hoyt; Or B.) Run after/Yell for Thomas. This will prove to them that you care about the family, their safety, and how they operate. That will automatically bring you closer to becoming a âmemberâ of the family.Â
Itâs easier to become part of the family if youâre: A woman {Luda wants a daughter}, a Christian, submissive, quiet, hardworking, or NICE TO THOMAS !!Â
This doesnât mean you have to compliment Thomas or be attracted to him - Just donât alienate him, stare excessively, or give him judgmental looks / remarks.Â
{if youâve gotten close to Luda Mae}Â
When she starts talking about Tommy, thatâs a good sign. ESPECIALLY in relation to you.
âY'know, Tommyâs really starting to take a liking to you.â = Heâs stayed up thinking about you.Â
If she ever sends you to get Thomas, sheâs trying to set you two up / get you two closer. If she likes you, sheâll connect you with Thomas.Â
Sheâs pretty kind to you - But sheâs still strict. No wasting food, no defiance, no secrets, no shaming of the family {especially Thomas}, do as youâre told. If youâre not busy, sheâll invite you to join her and Kathryn for tea sometimes. {Especially if youâre in a relationship with Thomas, they wanna know everything most things}.Â
Jedidiah just wants a friend. He's a lonely boy who will happily draw you {please praise it, he needs some.} He gets hurt often {cuts, bruises, scabs}, he's outside a lot. You might be asked to babysit, which if you do, be prepared. He's a bit of a chatterbox if he likes you. Draw together, pose for his portraits, and let him ramble about whatever's on his mind. {You could try to get family information out of him, but butter him up first.} This will also help you get closer to Luda Mae and Thomas - Showing care for Jedidiah is a good sign that you're not a total asshole.
____
Thomas is closed off for a few reasons: Previous trauma, anxiety, insecurity, and "fear" of outsiders. One of the easiest ways to get closer to him is by showing respect to the family. If you don't cause chaos, heâll be less antsy around you. Especially if you get close to his mother. Be patient with him, please. Heâs trying his best. Leave him alone when heâs stressed or really upset - Heâll usually storm off to his room or the basement. He needs time to himself, be mindful of that. Thomas, in his nature, is introverted. This doesnât mean he hates people - Heâs just very cautious.Â
You donât necessarily have to compliment Thomas, but itâll definitely help him weaken his guard. I.E; âI like your mask{s}â is a wonderful place to start. Even if you donât like his masks, complimenting his work is the easiest way for him to reconsider how he views you.Â
He LIVES for praise. {This connects to the compliments} - Compliment his strength, his stature, his craft, how he provides for the family. STAND UP FOR HIM !!! Oh my god, and PLEASE thank him for things. For example, if he gets something for you, please say âThank youâ, itâll mean so much to him. He just needs lots of praise and appreciation.Â
If youâre ever serving dinner, give him a bigger portion. Heâll appreciate it.Â
If you ever find things he might like {CDâs, Jewelry, BONES, Needles, Thread} anything he can craft with, give it. Itâll further weaken his protective walls and show that youâre one of the very few people whoâs genuinely interested in Thomas.
When attempting to have a conversation with Thomas, do it when heâs not busy - And when heâs not too tired. At the dinner table? Not the greatest option; Hoyt will be eavesdropping and Thomas is focused on eating. Maybe after dinner - If no âguestsâ are around. If youâre gonna ask him questions, itâs preferred if theyâre âyes/noâ questions. Something easy and quick for him to answer.Â
As soon as he starts loosening his guard, softening his gaze, staring at you / acknowledging you more, and doing things for you; Youâre in. Heâs semi-comfortable with you. When heâs really comfortable around you, heâll treat you as if youâve always been here. More touchy {depending on what type of relationship you two have}, open to conversation, less likely to guard his things; Just generally calmer around you. Oh, and heâll be very protective :) {Hoyt and Monty will be deterred}.
Ask him how he's doing - He may not always respond but it's a start. Bring him water, don't get in the way of his work, give him his space, compliment / praise / acknowledge him, and let Thomas grow at his own pace. The best things take time, especially relationships {of any kind}. Mutual respect is key đ«

Hiii - As an ode to my first post {Thomas' Medical Analysis}, I thought about making him a 'medical chart'.
Thomas my little microorganism
Not everything on this chart is canon {such as diagnoses dates}
The Basics
Thomas {Brown Hewitt} was born on the 31st {not canon} of August, 1939 - He is currently 34 years old, canon-timeline. Thomas is 6'5 and around 300-330 lbs / 136-150 kgs.

____
What His Skin Condition Could Be
Cutaneous Lupus {CLE}
Pustular Psoriasis
Severe Cystic Acne
Pustular Rosacea
I'm gonna make this very clear - as I did in the original Medical Analysis - Thomas does NOT have skin cancer. He would not survive. And even if he did, He'd be bed-ridden or severely weakened.
