Grounding & Centering

Grounding & Centering

In my practice grounding and centering have been valuable tools to working magic and managing my energy and emotions. Centering is important to put you in the correct mind frame to perform spells and grounding aligns your energy with that of the Earth.

For some, grounding and centering may be separate practices. However, in my practice they are one combined process. Some form of grounding and centering is often present in meditation, martial arts, and psychology. I personally use it to bring my awareness back to reality when I am feeling anxious or dissociating.

The technique I use to ground and center is visualization. This involves using your mind to imagine things that are not normally visible. If you feel this process worsens your distress from psychosis, this method may not be for you.

To begin grounding and centering, you can sit, stand, or lay, however feels comfortable to you. Some of the resting yoga positions can be beneficial for this. I recommend closing your eyes but it is not necessary if that feels uncomfortable for you.

First, we center. Visualize your energy pooling within your body. What color is it? Pay attention to how far your energy extends. Is it within your body or does it radiate outwards? Extend your awareness to the bounds of your energy. Imagine that energy contracting and forming a sphere within your body.

Next, to ground, extend your awareness to the energy of the Earth. It can help if you are outside or on a ground floor but you can just as easily ground in an apartment building or high rise. Visualize waves of energy radiating from the center of the Earth. Allow them to pass through you. Begin shaping that energy towards you. Visualize your energy and the Earth’s energy combining. Maybe a beam of light connects your orb to the Earth.

While doing all of this you should focus on breathing. If breathing deeply is uncomfortable for you, just breathe normally. But it is important to stay aware of your breath. This can also keep you focused.

If you find your attention drifting, just guide it back gently. The first handful of times you ground and center you may have difficulty keeping your attention. This is okay, it will get easier the more your practice. Forgive yourself for getting distracted and bring yourself back to the task at hand.

After this process, you may feel more connected to the Earth or you may feel energy surging within you. You might feel a bit warm. Or maybe you will feel none of these things. It can be a different process for everyone. We all respond to magical energy differently. Note how you feel.

You should now be prepared to do spellwork. Remember, that this can take practice.

Let me know about your experience or if you have any other tips for beginners!

✨Crochet Stitch Correspondence List ✨

image

So as most of you probably know, I’m a crochet artist. Everything that I create (weather it’s a crocheted item or not) has a bit of my magic imbued in it, but sometimes I want to enchant an item I’m making with a specific intent. Here’s my personal list of stitch correspondences.. these are just what energy I get from the stitch personally, so feel free to make your own correspondences up for them! Crocheting or knitting is so great because the stitches can have intentions, and you can use colour magic or the correspondences of the fiber content to amplify or add to the energy of your creation!

I use US terms, and I’ve tried to order them by how complicated the stitch is.

Chain stitch - If i’m doing a foundation chain of a multiple of 9 chains, I’ll use the 9 knot chant/spell to sort of kickstart the spell’s energy and to have it act as a battery to charge the spell:

By knot of ONE, the spell’s begun

By knot of TWO, it cometh true

By knot of THREE, so mote it be

By knot of FOUR, this power I store

By knot of FIVE, the spell’s alive

By knot of SIX, this spell I fix

By knot of SEVEN, events I’ll leaven

By knot of EIGHT, it will be Fate

By knot of NINE, what’s done is mine

If it’s just part of the pattern, I use it as an energy mover. It just keeps the energy moving from one stitch to the next, while keeping it strong.

Slip stitch - Great for glamours where the purpose is to go unnoticed. Also an energy mover, but lets the intent change freely from stitch to stitch. Single Crochet - A nice tight, simple stitch. I use it in items that I want to be protective but gentle to the wearer/user, nurturing love, close relationships.

Half double Crochet - A tight-ish, soft stitch. Warmth, protection, ease of manifestation.

Double Crochet - A looser, faster stitch. Good for freedom, moving energy away from yourself, and letting go.  Treble - Sort of an amplified version of the double. Spontaneity, letting go, luck.

Front post stitches - Brings the energy of whatever stitch you use to the forefront. Lets it be directed by you and seen by the world. Good for glamour spells where you want to bring attention to yourself. ex: front post treble will let the world see how spontaneous and forward moving you are.

Back post stitches - Lets the energy of whatever stitch you use run in the background. Good for glamours where you don’t want attention brought to yourself. Ex: Back post single would be great for bringing you protection, and strengthening relationships when you don’t want a lot of attention (from outsiders) brought to something so personal as a close relationship.

Stitches ‘together’ ( i.e. 2 treble together, 3 dc together) - Great for bringing people closer together (i,e, 2 together would be two people,) tightening bonds, bringing an end quicker.

Spike stitch/long stitch - Lets your energy reach farther. Good for spells where the subject is farther away (physically, emotionally or mentally) or if you’re having trouble reaching out to others.  Also good for divination or astral work to ‘see’ farther. Great for cursing as well when you use nice long, pointy spikes.

Moss stitch - (aka linen, granite, or woven stitch)  This is my favourite for warding. It’s a very tight stitch with no holes. Great for protection, keeping warmth in and not letting anything get through.

Granny stitch - Familiarity (great for when you’re traveling) comfort, familial relationships (particularly maternal), fast manifestation.

Ripple or Wave stitch - Sea/ocean magic, adaptability and riding the waves, energy flow, peace/calm.

Shell stitch - Opening up to others, manifestation, sea/ocean magic, adaptability (riding the waves, so to speak)

Picot - When used as an edging, it’s good for bringing about a good ending. It can be used to tie up all the loose ends if you’re in a situation of uncertainty. Good for curses where you want to make some bumps in somebody’s road.

Crab stitch - Sturdy, but also is a definite ending. Good for banishing and burning bridges. Can also be good for past life work since it’s worked backwards. Also good in cursing as so many hate doing this stitch.

Corner to Corner - Order, logic. Can be great to make a giant sigil project with! Just make your sigil simple enough to crochet as pixels in your C2C throw/blanket/square.

Puff stitch -  Self love, being gentle to yourself and other, slowing down a hectic life.

Popcorn stitch - Bringing fun and flavour into your life, great for brining a group of people closer together,

Crocodile stitch - Protection, psychic ability/astral work, cloaking/camouflage spells, bringing softness into your life.

Broomstick lace - Cleansing, banishing, warding. Basically all the things you can do with a besom, you can do with this stitch. Use your besom as the broomstick for added oomph! I also like to use this as a ward that filters out unwanted energy and transforms it into good energy.

Serpentine stitch - Entangling lives (i.e. if you want serendipity on your side) moving effortlessly through difficult situations, curse magic to complicate someone’s life

simple daily crafts (i)

i don’t have access to most witch resources (herbs, crystals, divination tools, etc) so i often opt to incorporate simple witchcraft on my daily routines:

chanting a spell as i take a shower to cleanse my body and re-establish a layer of protection (great for witches who associate with water)

use spells to help my skin be clear and healthy as i do my skincare routine

draw sigils on foggy surfaces (eg. mirrors after a hot shower)

pour good intentions into my cooking (health, prosperity, etc for those who eat it)

enchant my drinks so they can help cleanse my body from the inside

get permission to eat edible offerings to impart the energy, strength, and wisdom of my deities/guardians/etc

use part salt water when i mop the floor to cleanse my space regularly

enchant my money so that when they’re with me, they keep my finances prosperous and when i use them they’ll help me earn more in the future (you can also enchant them so nobody can use them for “bad” purposes, curse those who steal it, etc the possibility is endless)

enchant and charge my detergent so when i wash my clothes, any energy that negatively impact me that stuck to them will be neutralized

use glamour spells when i put on my make up

cleanse my living space using smoke from incenses (usually ones i’ve offered to my patron deity, after getting their permission) and establish a layer of invisibility protection

use novels and textbooks i have for bibliomancy

basically enchant everything and anything cause there are no limits to this!

100 Ways To Incorporate Magick In Your Daily Life.

100 ways to incorporate magick in your daily life.

I understand that these are not exactly all witchy but this is about intergreting your everyday life in your practice and appreciating as well as finding magick in the most mundane and simple things that we often miss out on. ♡

1. When you wake up, before grabbing your phone or getting out of bed, take a few seconds to breathe, and stretch all your limbs.

2. Say ‘’thank you’’ to your god/goddess/deity, or simply to acknowledge how lucky you are to live another day.

3. Open the window regardless of the weather and take a big breath of fresh air. This will not only cleanse the room but also your body.

4. If it’s raining outside or snowing, take a minute to admire the beauty of it.

5. Pick wildflowers (please don’t pick any endangered flowers or toxic ones, do your research).

6. Dry said wildflowers and put them in your Book of Shadows or any book or journal you are using.

7. Go for a walk in nature during the day and during the night as well.

8. Sunbathe.

9. Moonbathe.

10. Light lots of candles.

11. If your room needs a cleaning, try to make your own household products naturally using your favorite scents and clean your room with them.

12. Change your bed sheets and pillowcases.

13. If you have a clothing line, hang your clothes, blankets, sheets, comforters, pillowcases, underwear outside. Visualize the wind cleansing them.

14. Grow your own favorite herbs.

15. Buy a succulent.

16. Dry your herbs and save them for bath magick, spells, teas or rituals.

17. Sweep the floor and visualize yourself sweeping off all negativity out of the room.

18. Sprinkle sea salt over areas that you feel have a negative energy to purify them.

19. Make your own purifying/cleansing spray.

20. Take a hot, soothing bath. I am a sea witch so I find this particularly helpful when I miss the ocean/the beach. (Don’t forget to add herbs, essential oils, sea salt, flowers, crystals, or anything that has magickal properties for a magickal bath)

21. Sip a cup of your favorite herbal tea.

22. For kitchen witches, try brewing your own tea, and cooking meals with intention and magickal ingredients.

23. Make charm bags.

24. Water your herb garden by hand.

25. Show the people you love that you love them.

26. Show some love to your pets and spend a few extra minutes with them.

27. Light up your favorite incense.

28. Keep a small bag of your favorite herb (for example: lavender) in a drawer, so when you feel stressed, just pop the bag open for a deep breath of calming aromatherapy.

29. When you take a shower, visualize the water neutralizing your energy and washing off all the bad stuff.

30. Bless your morning coffee or tea.

31. Keep a daily journal, whether it’s a Book of Shadows, a daily planner/organizer or a dream journal.

32. If you wanna be low-key and discrete about your craft, draw small sigils all over everything. Your school notebooks, pencil cases, journals, shoes, etc.

33. Read lots of books about magick and form your own opinion/path/views/beliefs.

34. If you read fictional stories, allow yourself to get lost in them and let your mind wander and escape.

35. Put on your favorite clothes, makeup, shoes, or whatever little thing that makes you feel fabulous, even if you’re staying in.

36. Be proud of your body.

37. Practice self-care.

38. Take time to unplug and spend time with yourself. (that includes smartphones, iPads, laptops, tablets, desktops, and all electronics/little gadgets we lug around on a daily basis.)

39. Go to the beach

40. Go to the forest.

41. Go to the desert.

42. Go to the mountains.

43. If it’s warm outside, make a bonfire and admire the flames. If it’s winter and you have a fireplace, light it up.

44. Go somewhere you’ve never visited before.

45. Go camping if you can, by yourself or with friends.

46. Stargaze.

47. Breathe.

48. Dance.

49. Dance in the rain.

53. Walk barefoot and feel the earth under your feet.

54. Pull weeds.

55. Adopt an animal from the shelter.

61.Make your own candle.

62. Make your own essential oil.

66. Pick dandelions and make a wish.

67. Carry crystals/stones with your in your pocket.

68. Learn how to do tarot readings.

69. Collect rain, sun, snow water.

70. Plant lavender or rosemary for protection and luck.

71. Bless your kitchen utensils, such as spatulas and wooden spoons, that all the food you make with them will promote healing and love.

72. Charge your crystals under the full moon.

73. Have tantric sex with a loving partner.

74. Carve sigils into the sand at the beach and let the tides release them into the universe.

75. Re-arrange your altar.

76. Keep track of your sleep and menstrual cycles and moods to see how the moon phases affect you.

77. Be open minded to the retrogrades.

78. Go outside on any phase of the moon and take in all its beauty.

79. Keep your pendulum with you as a necklace so you’re always ready to do a little scrying.

80. Burn sage or cedar first thing in the morning to start your day off fresh.

81. Look for constellations and learn them.

82. Paint sigils on your mailbox.

83. Hang wood chimes, or a silver bell on your front door knob for luck.

84. Tuck a sprig of lavender under your pillow before bed to promote peaceful sleep.

85. Watch a meteor shower with someone you care about.

86. Buy new candles.

87. Water your plants in your garden counterclockwise to banish negativity from the space.

88. Paint your nails a color associated with the intention of your spell or ritual before you begin so that your hands become your wand.

89. Plant red geraniums by your front door as this is a traditional sign of witches.

90. Bless more than water and crystals on the night of the full moon: set out your essential oils, nail polish, or a special bottle of champagne too.

91. Dry your vegetables or plants and incorporate them into a charm bag.

92. Wash your windows with moon water for extra clarity.

93. Use sun water when you brew tea for a magickal experience.

94. Stir sugar into your tea or coffee with intention, willing sweetness into your day and life.

95. Draw sigils or write a brief protection spell on the inside of your dog or cat’s collar.

96. Soak in a milk bath (or just soak your fingers in a bowl of warm milk) on the full moon to embrace the feminine energy. Plus you’ll come away with silky, soft skin.

97.Hang up palmistry and astrology charts in your home for easy reference and pretty, witchy decor.

98. Line your windowsills with protective crystals.

99. Make censing sticks for the seasons, using chamomile buds for spring, lavender for summer, sage for fall and pine for winter.

100. Just be you and love yourself. Don’t forget you are made of stardust. You are magickal and amazing.
