Go read the fanfic my friend wrote for me!
@spider-lillis asked me to write a fanfic for her birthday about Fareeda and Evenere. So I did it. The fanfic is about the festival of dragonflies which is a holiday in Evenere. I added all the three canon characters I found from Evenere: Fareeda, Ponmalar and Bettina.
Purity culture has a way of getting into fandom spaces with a strength that's genuinely concerning. Especially in these times we're living, where our very own existences are being threatened by powerful people creating laws based on conservativism and puritanism.
I find it ironic (and very telling) that we're so ready to clutch our pearls when it comes to sexual content, but not anything else.
Dead Boy Detectives fandom, I'm talking to you.
Why are we so scandalized by the mere mention of sex? By people writing or creating sexually explicit art? Why do we think that younger fans of the show are not ready to hear simple words describing sexual activities in a neutral way, or discuss sensitive subjects such as sex related activities?
When I see people being censored or criticized under this "protect the children" rhetoric, I ask myself:
How were these the same fans who watched an entire show which main themes are hate crimes, queer subjects, violence and death, and that also heavily presents sexual assault, family annihilation, colorful and frequent curse words and many more real life, serious elements?
If you are a fan of this show and you were able to understand and connect with even a portion of its canonical content, then I'd assume that you're ready to have a conversation about it, or watch others talk about it. And yet I continue to see people wanting to keep others from conversations that are not any more explicit or sexual or serious in nature than what we see in the show.
Do not lie to yourselves, are we really concerned about other people's safety? Or are we performing some form of shallow wanna-be activism?
Are we celebrating a (cancelled) queer show, or deciding that some queer experiences are more appropriate than others?
See the way our fandom trends reflect what's happening in our very real lives. Do not protect the fake values of conservatism, they want all of us just as equally silent (or dead).
This is my list of a potential candidates I would like to see in a Teen Titans team:
Crush, daughter of Lobo. Half alien half human, full chaotic.
Tefé Holland, daughter of Swamp Thing. Super powerful super teen angst.
Anita Fite/Empress (I just need her to return somewhere in DC)
Harper Row/Blue Bird. Much more original bat choice than adding the same Robin or Batgirl again.
Galaxy, an alien superhero. She's such a cool character I hope she'll get more explored.
Alysia Yeoh/Batgirl. (She was originally supposed to be Batgirl. DC I beg you to go back to that storyline and make it happen).
Connor Hawk/Green Arrow. I think he would make a great team leader.
Static Shock (no actual reason I just think it would be cool to see him).
The Aerie. I know the wiki considers them terrorist but they are just an extremist activist. Yes they kill people but they mostly fight currapt politicians and bad people. They are so cool and I think they would get along well in a team.
(and Bette Kane might be a nice touch to add as well, same reason as Anita).
Edit: forgot Xanthe, a nonbinary magician (sort of). I definitely want them on the team as well! They're so cool.
Unconventiona list? Yes. Am I completely delirious and daydreaming? Absolutely. But this are my top choices of characters I think would be interesting to see in a Teen Titans team.
DC please give them more comics I am dying here.
Lucifer is very powerful, it's just that sinners don't respect him so much.
He mostly isolates from the public in his depression he he isn't currently at a place of being a "firm ruler"
I think Lilith is more supposed to fill that part.
When Lilith was gone the little respect that was for royalty probably faded even more.
Sinners don't respect Lucifer and Charlie so much. They're technically royalty but they're not much of an authority figure in hell.
They mostly just keep it to themselves so they don't have a reputation to fear from and respect it.
The fact that some of the demon overlords kept calling Charlie “Lucifer’s bitch of a daughter” made my jaw drop
They are saying that…ABOUT THE KING AND QUEEN OF HELL’S DAUGHTER!!!!
makes me think…maybe Lucifer doesn’t like to command authority, just like Charlie, so no one is scared of him
Or maybe he doesn’t have as much power as we thought..I really hope that’s not the case 🙁
At this point I just refuse to believe Charles is not inlove with Edwin.
Like besides the fact he looks at him like he's the sun and stars and everything in the universe and all of that; it's so in character for Charles to fall for the first boy that ever showed him kindness. The first person that was ever nice to him, made him feel safe, cared for him as he died. After the way they met?? Of course Charles will bloody fall for Edwin, how couldn't he?
That's so in character of him.
How many dbda fics I'm writing at the moment? 5!
How many of them I am probably close to finish if I'll actually be able to dedicate my willpower to focus on them? Most!
What am I gonna finish soon? Eh.....
What I want to write? Something new!!
They will come back - come back again, even though Netflix destroys. We never wasted fanfic, art or memes. Do you think We would squander our boys?
I'm maybe remembering to post this on the last day of the month, but here is an interesting fact about DC Comics for Jewish history month:
Harley Quinn canonically has a relative that was at the Holocaust.
When she accidentally came back to the past and came across Nazis, she recalled her and was filled with anger about her story on took that on the Nazis.
She kicked Nazis ass's to avenge her aunt (and also because they were Nazis and she hates them).
They wanted to give America a proper nationality instead of her being generically Latina. America is now Puerto Rican.
Oh cool! This is good to know.
Yeah this was a plot whole that I was wandering about myself. But this retcon is still kinda sad to me because we lost the lesbians planet and the beautiful lesbian goddesses and everything.
But I guess there are some good parts as well. I can understand that.
I think a lot of modern Sherlock Holmes adaptations (as in, Holmes in the modern era) miss out by having Holmes work so closely with the police. A lot of people forget that Holmes was one of the original ACAB bitchies in fiction; he did not like the police. Yes, he worked alongside them sometimes, but he often talked about them with open distain. Sometimes he even worked directly against them (think of The Norwood Builder).
Granted this was mostly because the police lacked a lot of the skills they have today, such as forensics, something that Holmes was an advocate for, and tended to draw conclusions that did not fit the obvious facts. This has obviously changed - the police have a lot more resources at their disposal nowadays, but they are not a perfect institution - far, far from it, and if he were alive today, Holmes would have a lot to say about that.
I wish modern adaptations stayed true to the fact that in canon, Sherlock Holmes was the man you went to if you could not go to the police. If you had, perhaps, a criminal record, were homeless, were POC, were queer, were neurodivergent, an abuse victim, reliant on illegal substances, or even wrongfully accused, Sherlock Holmes would be the man you went to, and he would help you to the best of his ability.
Also, Holmes had his own unique sense of justice. Think of The Abbey Grange - a man murders the abusive husband of an old lover, and the wife is complicit. Holmes and Watson ultimately decide to let them go - Lady Brackenstall was being horribly abused, she was trapped in a loveless marriage with a violent husband. Captain Crocker murdered Sir Eustace, freeing Lady Brackenstall and perhaps saving her life. If the police had arrested Crocker, it would be very likely he would be hanged for murder, regardless of the circumstances.
Then there is James Ryder in the Blue Carbuncle. He, after Holmes pesters him, freely admits to stealing the jewel, but Holmes does not hand him over to the police and instead lets him walk free. It was Ryder's first offence, one he was manipulated into committing, and Holmes and Watson see him as a, quite frankly, pathetic little man. Holmes realises that if he were to turn Ryder in, it would destroy his life - he would be 'a jailbird for life'. Ryder committed a crime, but he is no criminal. Prison would turn him into one.
Holmes takes justice into his own hands, and in a way, it turns him into an anti-hero. But I think this a part of what makes him such a loveable, iconic character.
Holmes has created a 'safe space' within 221B Baker Street. I think this would be extremely intresting to explore through a modern lens.
I just realized the girls vs boys ratio in the arrowfamily and I'm in shock-
Girls:
Dinah
Emiko
Sienna
Lian
Mia
Cissie
Jade (yes she counts).
+ Artemis in young justice. She's also very popular arrowfamily character.
I think Sin also counts as arrowfamily but I'm not sure.
So 7-9 girls depends on how you count.
Boys:
Oliver
Roy
Connor
And that's it???
I'm currently hyperfocusing on Lian so I started to think about the arrowfamily and I realized it.
That's so different from the batfamily where the female characters often don't get enough attention and are treated horribly.
Call me Rubèn!! Or Ru / Ben if we're friends.✡️🌈 no pronouns/he/they/it.Used to be multi fandom, mostly Dead Boy Detectives right now. I swear this account had other subjects before.Usually mostly DC but I spit out a lot of random fandoms shit.
