do you have any soulmate au headcanons for any characters? Maybe for powder if you do? 🥺
Also do have you a Kofi or anything for tips?
Oh I sure do! I have plenty, but with such a kind request for Powder, I can write some down here while I'm working on a writing for Stretch! As a treat, I'll even add two other Sanses teehee
And no, I do not, simply because it's never occurred to me! Maybe one day, but I honestly love just having people interacting and asking things like this! It makes me happy and motivates me. Please keep asking questions if you have them, they just make my day twice as better. Enjoy the headcanons below!! :-))
- He wasn't sure what it was when he first met you, but he was quick to detect that you were someone he wanted to befriend.
- His guard is lowered in your presence, and he's content with this information. After all, you're just so...good to be around
- He is a bit more protective of you than he realizes, especially when he sees you talking with someone that he doesn't like
- Every small, minuscule touch you give is something that sends jolts through him, and it excites him. He tends to even find ways just to feel contact with you
- He doesn't notice how shy and nervous he gets around you, but when it's pointed out he'll act like it's nonsense. He's just so giddy around you and shy, his confidence wavers in your presence
- Please, if you're stressed about something, he'll handle it for you. He wants to take care of you, pamper you even with words of affirmation. No one as wonderful as you should feel incompetent or bad about something when you simply need someone to support you
- He's oblivious to how he feels for most of the time up until he realizes that he likes you, but he won't take initiative since he doesn't want to scare you or ruin anything. He won't even mention soulmates to you, let alone comment on things that could imply that he's thinking about you romantically
- He's very in tune with his emotions and when he felt that first wave of attraction, he thought that something was wrong with him. His soul just tugged right against his ribcage and he knew something was off
- He's more guarded around you because he doesn't like losing control of his emotions, and he tends to keep his distance at first since that's his biggest defense. However, when you are around? His stress feels lighter and his body feels fuzzy
- He's the quickest to be defensive for you about something, protective to the degree he is with Rus. His soul tells him that it can trust what you say, and he's willing to listen to his soul on the matter. Even if he throws quick quips at someone, he'll intimidate them in order to make someone not bother you anymore
- He's already standoffish about touch, but the first time your hand placed itself on his shoulder in consolation and concern, that feeling was there again and he feels nervous about how addicting the sensation is. He won't ever pull away, but he won't initiate it and he gets more unsure when it's not just the two of you
- He wants to know more about you, try to figure out why he feels so good around you. He's so oblivious even if he's one of the quickest to detect that you clearly have a sway on him and his emotions. He won't bring up soulmates to you, but it's something he analyzes so hard about
- Like Powder, he's going to find ways to stop you from getting overworked. He'll scold you if you push yourself too hard and he'll finish tasks for you even if you insist that you can do it yourself. He's capable and subconsciously he feels that he should show you that fact as a way to let you rely on him more
- He felt disoriented when meeting you, as if you were a balm to the chaos of his soul and mind. He always falters in your presence and you have the ability to suddenly get him to listen
- He made it obvious he wanted to be around you, going so far as to outright shove the other Sanses in order to get closer
- A touch from you is a breath within his nonexistent lungs. Not quite a jolt, but something that feels cold and warm all at once. He's addicted to it, and he's much more open about touching you when he can and when you allow it. He's almost needy
- He's been made fun of for being on his best behavior when you're around, but he was quick to realize why he feels this way around you. He's not as obsessive about why he feels a certain way in comparison to Carmine, even if he denies it for awhile, and so he's able to guess that you're...his. This is why he wants to be good for you
- He will be outright nasty to anyone that bothers you, confronting them and demanding that they apologize. You don't deserve that treatment, and he's going to make them see that
- He's definitely the jealous type, but he gets embarrassed about it since he already struggles with how he feels so much for you. He won't ever confess his feelings unless you coax it out of him, and even then he's frustrated with himself. Still, he'll apologize if he sees that he's upsetting you. He's not the best at it, but he'll try. For you.
Yoooo mango loco is one of the best!!! Glad to see it get more love! Any foods or drinks you absolutely despise?
Oh god don't even get me started. I hate HATE HATE PICKLES. The scent, the sight, the taste, the absolute DISGUSTING TEXTURE. Seeing pickles on a burger I ordered without the slimy, disgusting item makes me want to cry I can TASTE the pickle even when removing it. No pickle is a good pickle, I'd beat one up if it was a person. Such vile, disgusting burdens upon this world
I have booped so much. So....so much...
I keep having Mitski repeating in my head
"I am hungry, I have been hungry, I was born hungry, what do I need..?"
And it's all thanks to this BOOP APOCALYPSE
Anyways, I decided the last boop before I pass out belongs to my own cat, Bingus. My belobed. This is a picture of her, she's my pride and joy
Now THIS is a favorite playlist of mine! I try to capture this feeling of white boy indie softness mixed with so angst with Stretch and this is a playlist I find myself looping for it! Please lmk if the artist themselves doesn't want their art to be used for things like repost n such. Thank you and enjoy

Dust "Serrif"
To Note: I keep the Bad Sanses and the Roommate Universes separate. So if I mention Killer, for example, it is in the Bad Sanses universe. Mostly, both versions are quite similar to one another, but the interactions he has with others influences slight changes of how he grows. If you have further questions, don't be afraid to ask! (I'll go crazy/pos)
- Official height is 5'5
- He/Him
- Nihilist
- Drinks Ketchup, but rarely nowadays
- Intuitive, pessimistic, cynical, overthinker, observant, responsible, sarcastic, serious, assertive, quiet, dedicated, untrusting, overprotective, secretly jealous, cunning, ruthless, manipulative, reserved, blunt, and bitter
- His brother's dust fused with his soul when he killed him, and that is why he can see his dead brother and talk to him, so he can see him almost constantly
- Almost always the only one who sees his brother. Very rarely, however, if the magic is strong enough, a faint and hazy outline of Pap can be seen
- He reads as a hobby, usually involving old literature. When everyone was dusted, the Library was somewhere he frequented out of boredom
- He would have horrible dissociative issues, zoning out worse than most even without provocation. He struggles identifying what is real, where he is, who he's around, and what place he's at. He can be catatonic
- He cares for every papyrus he comes across, and he ends up the most gentle to them and the most patient. After all, even if he killed his brother, that doesn't mean he wants to kill others. When he's disassociated, however, he can sometimes be a danger to Cyperus and often tries to stay away from him as a result since he can forget that he's not his Papyrus
- Good friends with Powder and Saint
- He used to resent Vanilla specifically, as he envies him in so many ways
- strangely, he is friends with Red, and while the dynamic is similar to Vanilla and Red, the dynamic is tilted and often enough Red can be a little off put by him
- He can be outright nasty to others, apathetic to them, but as time goes on he's just exhausted and reserved
- He is willing to let things happen without involving himself, unless he deems it necessary to do so
- He's picky with those he's friends with, he doesn't get close to other Sanses easily and in fact tries to actively avoid making close friendships
- He won't admit it, but he sometimes argues with his brother and he looks crazy. He could be muttering at the wall and next thing you see his him strangling the air while angrily muttering
- The most hateful to Frisk, he refuses to be around any au of Frisk or Chara. Even if he got the help he needed, it just isn't possible for him to forgive them
- (This would be if we go by the Bad Guy Sanses rather than the Skeletons in one universe/house) He would despise Killer Sans specifically in the beginning of their work relationship, but as time went on they became close friends
- He wears a hood and hat since he does not want other people to see his face. It wasn't just to keep his identity stifled, he just also doesn't like to see his own face and associate it with himself. Mostly shrouded in shadow except for his eyelight or teeth sparingly, I like to think that once he starts to heal you can see more and more of his face as he starts to either forgive himself or at least can associate his face with who he is
- He can mimic Vanilla practically in every way, but he only does this to hide his identity in public or if someone confuses the two somehow. The only issue is that something just seems...off when this happens
- An erratic and violent fighting style, he's unpredictable and doesn't follow a pattern like Vanilla does
- He's jittery and when stressed he is more snappish and anxious as a result, constantly paranoid and on high alert
- He struggles with fight or flight responses when confronted or even in situations that don't require a large response. however, this usually ends with fights
- He enjoys cooking from anybody, complimenting them and eating all of it. He doesn't waste food, and he is always appreciative of someone making something. He especially loves it from the Papyri
- Talks to himself sometimes (it's actually Papyrus)
- An angry crier, but he becomes unresponsive or too frustrated to calm down easily when he's really distressed
- He picked up smoking when in the Junkyard area, finding a hat there and a mostly empty pack of cigarettes. He finally lights one when he just finishes dusting Papyrus
- Because the food supply at some point dropped, Dust ended up crossing Grillby's side of the counter and found hidden stashes of alcohol. He ends up drinking and often pretending that everyone in the bar is present when shit faced, but it ends up with him usually breaking down
- There are little times Papyrus is not with Dust since they share a soul in some ways, but it's possible
- He would call his lover Angel
- His brother had always nagged him to wear glasses, but he was always too lazy to do it. Nowadays, he can be seen wearing them when reading
- He finds comfort in forests when above ground, as it helps him clear his thoughts. Rarely though, he can't stand being around them when he starts to hallucinate the voices of those he once loved in the absence of Papyrus. If he's in the forest, he tries to at least have someone to talk to, even if it's just Pap. He hates silence.
- He's extremely patient, almost to a concerning extent. He is willing to play the long game, and so a hobby he interestingly tuned in on is chess
- He is one of the best Sanses when it comes to playing poker, you would have to be careful when making bet with him
- Is a fantastic liar when he chooses to, something about his voice is....trustworthy. If you have wonderful intuition, however, you can just pick up that odd tone he has
- No one is allowed to wake him up early, he stays up late as it is and ends up sleeping the most out of all the Sanses as a result. He is extremely grumpy otherwise. Of course, this would be if he trusts those around him. He actually ends up avoiding sleep and doesn't trust others enough when he first interacts with them. Powder or Red will fight others on waking him up once they pick up this fact
- Does crosswords when possible. He loves to do Junior Jumble because Pap used to love them. He can be seen muttering to himself and even...at ease, when he does them.
- Loves thunderstorms, he's reminded of when Pap used to need comfort as a babybones. He often can be seen watching outside a window or even standing in the rain to get those memories to be fresher in his mind
- Extremely touch starved, but often feels that he doesn't deserve to ask for it. In fact, if he really trusts someone, he leans into them if they initiate touch. If he doesn't like someone however, he'll forcefully remove them. The presence of those he cares about is enough most of the time though. Rarely, he actually will initiate touch. This is reserved for those he's extremely close with though
- Frequently has night terrors, Saint has them too and sometimes they need each other since only both can calm the other. In truth, it was something both ended up being useful for, and it was one of the things that really strengthened their bond. If we talk about the Bad Sanses, he actually was surprised to find Killer sitting beside him and even stroking his skull when he's freaking out one night. Killer knows what it feels like, and even if he knows that Dust was going to be mad, Saint wasn't present and he oddly felt that he had to take initiative. Dust ended up not complaining and actually laid his skull against Killers lap that night
- He can't sleep without hugging something. Pillow, blanket, stuffie, person? Doesn't matter, he has to have something at any point. Even if he ends up sleeping in a laundry basket, he can be seen cuddling something such as a scarf or shirt
- He buries his face in his brother's scarf when cold, or when he wants to breathe in his scent as a soothing and comforting coping mechanism
- Doesn't trust anyone with Pap's scarf, and only washes it sparingly or if he allows it since he wants to remember the scent of his brother. He uses the same soap that Papyrus used
- Will let any Papyrus clean his room, but no one else, not even Powder
- He likes photography, he ended up being closer to Stretch when he was gifted a camera from him
- He doesn't care too much for his health mentally or physically, but works on himself overtime if he's in a safe environment
- Usually doesn't speak unless someone else prompts him to, but he'll sometimes do it unprompted on rare occasion
- Magic smells of leather and slight tobacco, magic tastes of vanilla
- Due to starving underground after the genocide, he now has ash tinted bone and is in fact quite scrawny. Similar to Saint, he has chipped bone and sometimes dust can be seen flaking off. His situation was different though, so he didn't physically change too much like Saint did
- He doesn't seem like it, but he actually enjoys certain puns even after everything. He's a hard skeleton to crack, but with the right joke he can ease up around someone almost as in approval. Depending on who he's connecting with, the joke can be a lame pun, or seeing someone make a fool of themselves
- He is not prone to listen a lot of the time, more spiteful and petty. Like Vanilla, he won't do something well or at all if he doesn't like someone, but he's less subtle about it than him. He won't enjoy scoldings either, since he's used to being scolded a lot more anyways from Pap
- He likes to provoke people at times, and can even actively be passive aggressive or nasty to them as a result. He won't apologize either, and only will apologize if he really deems that person worthy of it
- He's really secretive, and in fact if he's in the roommate timeline it would take awhile for others to REALLY know what happened. Even then he doesn't like talking about it
- His clothes are covered in dust, so that's what he often smells like if he's not using magic. It faintly can remind someone of a dusty attic or library, but for a monster it's very unpleasant and disorienting
- He will threaten someone in a rather calm manner, not bothering to raise his voice. He detaches himself, and if he's really angry he can become what he was like with Frisk: manic and unhinged
- He has a high pain tolerance, so he can have someone smash his face with an object and he'll stumble sure, but he won't react to it much
Closing Notes: oh my STARS bro he's one of my favorites to work with, I actually have a lot of fun when talking about him and exploring his character. I didn't care much for him when I was younger, but that's because I was crazy or something🤭
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed reading! I feel weird when people interact but I appreciate when you guys do. Thank you for reading🫶🫶
Y'know what. I'm gonna say it. I think Pitch would get along with the other Papyri so well. Like- not all of them, but like,,,,Lunar?? Yes. Do I also think that Pitch would be more mother hen like when they're all roommates? Yes, I really do because this sassy skeleton is just silly and he deserves some domestic happiness y'all
Curled up and grabbed my face with an exaggerated wail because I love this interpretation and I adore when people pay more attention to the Papyri since they're all such interesting characters and have their own worlds and characteristics that have so much potential if only people would take it. I've thought about different ways people interpret Stretch for example and I like to think the two have such an awkward relationship due to them both being secretive about stuff and struggling to balance their protective nature and more private lives. I wonder how Stretch would react to Blooper(Blueberror) and visa versa since they both lost a brother and overall struggle with a lot. Blooper has new trauma and Stretch in your interpretation of him has stuff to deal with as well.
The fact that, oftentimes, even when the Sanses involved in all the Multiverse stuff still have living brothers they're supposedly attached to, those brothers still become irrelevant to their story has always saddened me a bit.
Especially because the Papyruses have the potential to be just as interesting as their brothers.
Like, imagine being Horrortale Paps and your brother gets taken away. Your brother who is the only one holding the little community you live in together. Your brother who is the one making sure that, despite the food scarcity, you still got something in your plate every day.
You worry endlessly about him. You spend days hoping he's still alive, holding fiercely onto that hope that has always defined you. And nobody else believes it. Sans had been starving himself for years, he was bound to drop dead at some point, they say. They all knew it would happen, and they didn't know how to comfort Papyrus when he still refused to believe it.
Papyrus learns to be a leader in his brother's absence. He learns to take charge, become more assertive, and stand up to Undyne. And yet, through it all, he still has the strength to remain kind. He still follows his passion for puzzles. He still cooks any chance he gets. His brother isn't there to act as a buffer between him and the world, so he has to adapt, but adapting doesn't mean giving up everything that is at his core.
And then, one day, Sans comes back. And he has some friends with him. He goes by Horror now, and he's got a bunch of new traumas to deal with. And his friends do too. Killer, Cross, Dust, they're all huddled together, hesitant to approach. Killer's putting on a front, he's all sharp edges and deceiving smiles, Cross is being all formal, he's walking on eggshells constantly, as if Papyrus would hurt him if he dared to step over a line that isn't even there, and Dust doesn't say a word. He doesn't even look at Papyrus.
Papyrus welcomes them all to his home. Horror seems uneasy at first. Papyrus is fine after all. He survived and he and Snowdin are both thriving as much as they can. For a bit, their chat is awkward and stilted, but, eventually, Horror asks: "You don't need me here anymore, do ya bro?". And Papyrus, who never gave up hope and never changed any more than he needed reassures him: "I don't need you, but I would like it if you stayed. I would like to know you're safe" and he's as loud as he's ever been, as bright and positive and, well, Horror can't say no to his little brother.
Cross, Killer, and Dust can also stay as often as they want. His brother has a big heart and he won't care about their bloody pasts. And, yeah, Killer and Cross will probably go back and forth between the Epic Sanses and Horrortale, but at least they have some stability now. At least they know that there is someone out there in the Multiverse who won't look at their scars, their high level, and their EXP and immediately think they're the scum of the Earth, and that's... well, that's nice.
On the other hand, imagine being Underswap Papyrus, and your brother was never taken from you, he chose to leave. And everyone assumes it must have been your fault. Perhaps you were too protective, and that's why. Perhaps you didn't support him enough. Perhaps you didn't get along. Perhaps you were straight-up abusive. The rumors abound both out in the Multiverse and in your own home because Blue didn't go quietly. He doesn't do quiet.
He said goodbye to all his friends while parading around with two literal gods and then he vanished into a golden portal. He dismissed all of your concerns and almost resented you for them. Because he's not weak he's not stupid and he can take care of himself. And you agree with all of those points, he's the coolest after all, but also you know nothing about the Multiverse and there are gods out there, so you can't know if being the coolest is gonna be enough to keep him safe.
Papyrus was never social. He got along with his brother, Ms. Muffet, and the man behind the door. That's his entire circle of friends. And now one of them is gone, and many more people than before have turned hostile. Because Blue is a nice person, he's nice to everyone, he's outgoing and social, of course, he wouldn't just leave his brother unless he did something to deserve that! Especially when everyone knows that Papyrus' HOPE is so low and that he's been struggling with depression for a long time. Blue wouldn't just leave.
Except he did.
Except he left.
Except he's not there anymore, because the Star Sanses could offer him glory and fame, and the love of thousands of AUs, and Papyrus could give him none of that. The only thing he could offer was his support for Blue's dreams and his unconditional love. And it was obvious to both of them that those two things could never be enough.
Papyrus doesn't change, because he was always well-rounded enough to make it by himself, just like his brother was. They were two whole people who never completed one another.
If they meet again, it won't be a sweet reunion like for the Horrortale brothers. It will be in the Omega Timeline if their AU ever gets destroyed. And they will be strangers making awkward small talk that will never develop into anything more than that, because neither of them wants the other to stay.
However, perhaps there in the Omega Timeline Papyrus can find a nice ending to his story. There are people there who are rejects just as much as he is. Who have wild rumors spread about them that are more or less founded than those about him. Other people who lost everything and are trying to find themselves with some help.
And maybe one day he can meet other Papyruses who dealt with being left behind, willingly or not. Horrortale Paps certainly wouldn't mind acquiring a lanky brother too
Lunar Serrif
- Official height is 6'11
- He/Him
- His magic was altered when he started to starve, up until he unknowingly ate human flesh. He grew stronger, and is physically the strongest Papyrus as a result
- Loves flower language
- He has stretched out and thinner bones from unstable magic and starvation
- He has quick reflexes due to his time underground, but unlike Saint this is a constant state that he is in
- Has a dangerous temper, though he's improved since he's reached the surface
- Is sometimes too blunt to the point that he has little to no filter since he finds lying to be pointless
- He is an amazing cook, but overtime he's grown to bake instead since it lacks meat
- He is more weary about giving second chances and trusting others
- He worries about his brother constantly, though there is an undertone of bitterness when he thinks about him. He loves his brother, of course he does, but there are some things he hates when it comes to what Saint does
- He hates being the center of attention after his trauma nowadays, and prefers to shrink in on himself
- Good friends with Pitch and the others, but is especially close with him in private
- He is working to heal from the anger and trauma Saint unintentionally caused, their relationship is strained
- Will use violence if necessary, but doesn't like it
- kind, reserved, honest, idealistic but weary, loyal, self conscious, empathetic, open minded, compassionate, protective, cynical, observant, and patient
- Overall, he prefers cats
- Would be interested in gardening
- Does not curse often but will
- Yellowed bone, ash tinted due to starvation
- A huge romantic, but he doesn't focus on it anymore
- He doesn't say anything, but he feels inferior when around Cyperus
- He craves companionship in small portions, he doesn't value large crowds of friends anymore. This is especially true because he knows that he'd just be more lonely
- He has a scary amount of knowledge about others because he makes sure to remember everything. He has the best memory out of all Papyri except Cash and Rus, but even then what Lunar remembers is especially acute to even the most simple of things
- fucking terrifying when he's fighting, he's cold and calculated without so much as flinching. However, he doesn't like this side of him
- Will dissect people psychologically
- Talks to himself out of loneliness sometimes, a habit from the underground
- Cries quietly, but sniffles a lot and hides
- Would call his lover sugar
- Being part of the royal guard became a painful necessity when underground, it protected him and his brother
- He helped other monsters underground when no one else did, even if that did mean that he had to get hurt sometimes
- Hates the sensation of mud due to the texture reminding him of blood
- Like Cyperus, he's hyper aware of his strength but now he's extra careful when handling things
- He practices gentleness with gardening
- He has more sensitive teeth than he'd like to admit, especially since he had to tolerate it before. He is skilled at making something moist and soft such as baked goods and meat
- His favorite passtime is puzzles, so he'll do things such as word puzzles when he's above surface
- He's reluctant to be physically affectionate, especially nowadays. So, if he lifts you up, you can expect it to be the exact amount of delicacy that's needed
- Physically, he is the strongest Papyrus and he's been considered especially dangerous because he doesn't need to use his magic often
-Others being sincere about wanting to be close with him is a rarity, so he'll be taken aback. Nonetheless, he values it to the point he'd do anything for those he cares about. Anything
- Has a bald cat named June who has a missing leg
- He is pained to admit that he doesn't see Undyne as his friend anymore, that she's someone else. He is even afraid of her.
-Because he's had to lie so much when Underground, he can diffuse a situation and know exactly what to say to avoid conflict
- He is not intimidated by the other Papyri, but there are some things he envies from them
- Magic smells like caramel, magic tastes like peach
Hello, I saw you in my inbox quite a few times. I've been distracted with stuff, but I wanted to show that I support you and I hope that even a small blog like me can gain some traction for your cause. The Holidays are here and I know times are stressful. I'm not able to donate, but I still wish you luck in your safety and end goal.
With love
Hello, My name is Mosab Elderawi, and I live in Gaza with my family. Life here has become harder than I ever imagined, and I’m writing this with hope in my heart that you might hear our story.
The ongoing war has devastated my family. We’ve lost 25 family members—each one a beloved part of our lives, taken too soon. I miss them deeply—their laughter, their presence, their love. Every day is a reminder of this unimaginable loss.

We are now facing daily challenges to survive—things that most people take for granted, like food, clean water, and a safe place to sleep. The harsh realities of life here have replaced our dreams with the constant fight for survival.
💔 Lost Stability: The war has left us without work or a stable source of income. 🍞 Basic Needs: Food and water are becoming harder to afford with rising prices and scarce resources. 📚 Dreams on Hold: Like so many here, my family’s dreams have been replaced by the need to simply survive. 😢 Unimaginable Loss: Losing 25 loved ones has left a void that can never be filled.
I’m sharing our story with the hope that someone out there might care. Even $5 can make a big difference for us, and if you’re unable to donate, just reblogging this post can help spread the word.
Your kindness, no matter how small, is something we’ll never forget.
Your support is not about changing our entire situation—it’s about giving us a little relief, a little hope, and a way to keep going. We are not asking for much, and we understand if you can’t donate. Sharing our story is just as valuable to us as a donation.
Thank you for reading this far. It means the world to us to know that someone is listening. Your kindness gives us strength and helps us believe in a better tomorrow.
With all our gratitude, Mosab Elderawi and Family ❤️

Souls
Let's talk about souls. So I wanted to work on distinctions and really grasp how they're different and similar between Monsters and Humans. Below, I speak as if this is from like- a journal entry. These are all my personal headcanons really or interpretations, and I'd love commentary or your opinions on it as well!
One distinction is that the soul and the heart are different. One is physically visible to the human eye, it helps function the body and pumps blood. However, the soul rests around the heart and is practically invisible unless a Monster (and once before a human) pulls someone in for an encounter or if the soul is safe enough to decide to expose itself. Before, there used to be Mages, humans who possessed magic that was learned from the Monsters. But, as time has gone on, there have been no reports of humans being able to see their soul without the presence of a monster. Monsters, being made entirely of magic, are the only ones able to see a soul through encounters or through the consent of another. Showing a soul is very intimate, and is only ever exclusive for partners who share a very strong bond and are “mated.”
It is very important to state that Humans are the only ones with Soul Traits™ while Monsters mostly have no distinct reason why their magic is a certain color. There is suspicions that it may be due to a monster having something akin to following a soul trait, the amount of LV they have, or how their environment has influenced them. Of course, this would have to explored later on when reflecting on Undertale and all of its AU’s.
Now back to exploring Souls as a whole.
No matter if you are a human or a monster, If the body is sick, so is the soul. It's hardly ever severe, but there are ways to make the soul unhealthy at times without the body becoming sick. The differences between Monsters and Humans is that only Humans have soul traits and thus are the only ones able to make their soul sick in the way that it affects their personalities. Humans also can be physically sick without it being due to their soul, as their body is separate from their soul. If a monster is sick, they cannot alter their soul or personality, and this means that they are actually more vulnerable because their ailments are directly because of soul problems. Rarely does a monster get sick however, since they have been underground and thus have an environment that sustains them.
Every human has a little bit of every trait, but what makes one stand out is the amount of a trait being in a person's soul. At birth, a human soul is almost a milky white, much like a monster soul, but overtime colors will appear based on each child's experience. If a soul is already a full trait without other soul colors being visible, it is a rare condition and simply means that the child had this occur through a random selection of circumstances. There is no way for this soul to change unless something extreme happens, but that rarely occurs just as how full trait souls occur in children. Traits can be easily influenced within children, but it is harder to have this change into teen hood as it's normal for there to be two or three soul traits that mainly drive the teenager without excluding other traits that may be prevalent in general. When the human reaches adulthood, the most dominant trait ends up staying whether it later ends up corrupted, used in excess, or remains as it originally was. There may be evidence on the soul that can show that there is another trait that drives a human to behave a certain way, but there has not been enough study on the human soul beyond what monsters have studied and what humans have studied within restricted opportunities. After all, to expose a soul is not only a very private, intimate experience, but depending on the age and sensitivity of the patient, it can be easier to damage a soul through physical contact as the soul becomes more prone to its environment.
Now, what are the differences between too much of a trait, corruption, falling down, or going against a trait?
Too much of a trait will cause it to overflow like a liquid, often affecting the individual's personality. It's not as detrimental to the human as losing a soul trait or corrupting it, but it can lead to higher risks within the human. It is easier to reverse the effects, however, but it takes time. Depending on the soul trait, it can be harder to reverse the effects before the human may run the risks of endangering themselves. As times have changed, it is also reported to be a more rare occurrence for a soul to excessively overflow, and actually is more common for a soul to be corrupt or for a human to go against a soul trait
Going against the soul's trait will lead to discoloration of the soul until eventually, the soul will turn grey. If a soul is discolored but not grey, there is a higher chance of fixing things. But, the more discolored a soul is, an individual is more likely to be physically or mentally ill since the soul has a strong influence on a human's physical body. It is harder to heal from this, as often enough it can cause a human to be more stubborn about their ways and make it more challenging for the soul to recognize itself.
To Note: Through experience, a soul trait may be slightly discolored or brighter than usual, but it only minimally affects the human and can be repaired through other means. Both of these situations can be just as damaging as the other, but they can often lead to two options: Corruption or Falling Down
No one understands how this happens. It is when the soul starts to crack and often enough will lead to the human soul to be twisted into something else. This is the most rare ailment that will cause a human to become someone else, and change the soul permanently into what is known as the soul trait Hate. The soul starts to almost wither and crack, a black underneath that starts to almost paint the soul or chip it into a pitch black that is almost practically irreversible. Corruption leads to this soul trait and this has influenced a lot of mages when the war on Monsters caused it in the first place. It not only altered their personalities and interests, but even their magic. However, because recorded history of what happened has been lost to time, no one knows what exactly the abilities were that stemmed from Hatred. It is exclusive to Humans and thus is one of the reasons Monsters have such a fear of them, though more specific details of this sickness has blurred over the years until misinformation led to Monsters assuming that Humans in general are dangerous despite the state and conditions of their soul. Not quite Human and definitely not Monster, being corrupt has never been reported to occur in full within recent years. The only recorded time a Human was ever fully corrupt was when the War against Monsters occured. After all, Mages had magic and this is rumored to be why this was the only time Hate has ever become a Humans soul trait. Though, it is noted that Wars between Humans have been a result of political figures and civilizations being infected with the sickness that leads to the cracking of Humans within early stages of Corruption.
Falling down is not exclusive, as it can affect humans and monsters alike. Falling down is entirely when the Soul starts to lose Hope. Whether it is through a monster or a human, what happens is that the soul will start to wither or “dust.” It starts to drain HP and the strength within the body, thus making the Monster or Human more vulnerable and weaker. It is suspected that it does not affect the use of Magic within a Monster, but HP and their Hope scale will decrease. A perfect example is Undyne vs Sans. Sans has 1 HP, and even if he's strong, in the Pacifist route he comments on just giving up. This leads to me concluding that this is why he not only is the only one to dodge attacks within the game (not including fandom interpretation), but he also seems to be a more depressing character who seems to be nihilistic/apathetic. He's more vulnerable to Falling Down, unlike Undyne. She quite literally forces herself to fight because her Hope for the underground and Determination to fight drives her. So, for Monsters, it's entirely based on their experiences. For Humans, it is also based on their experiences, but their Soul Trait has a huge play on how vulnerable the are to Falling Down. Kindness, Patience, and Integrity traits are the most prone to it, while Determination, Perseverance, and Justice are less likely to experience Falling Down.
Closing Notes: With my next post, we'll explore all the souls based on their rarity, their perks, and their risks. Again, this is all personal headcanons. Thank you for reading :-)
